Black Dots on Palm Rest

Hello,
I am currently using a Macbook Pro with Retina Display. I have been using it for roughly a year.
Today, I discovered that there are black dots on the palm rest, the part next to the track pad. What's peculiar about them is that they are not erasable or cleanable.
They are definitely not dust, and seem to be embedded into the aluminum chassis.
I am guessing that it's aluminum rust or something like an oxidation reaction.
So my questions are:
1. Is there any way to remove them?
2. Is there any palm rest cleaning method that you would recommend?
3. Would it be safe to use a palm-rest guard or a protector (considering Moshi products) in this situation?
Thank you in advance.

Probably not.

No.

Yes.
What you have experienced is your body chemistry is such that it reacts with the MBP case causing this phenomenon.  These spots are etched in your case and the only remedy is to replace it, a somewhat impractical solution.
Ciao.

  • Black Tiny Spots on Palm Rest

I've taken really good care of this MacBook Pro. I have one of the best bags and cases for it. I don't wear a watch and I started noticing these tiny black spots on the palm rest area that you cannot wipe off, mister clean off, erase off or anything. They are just there. They are in spots where my palms don't even go too. Does anyone else have this problem? This really bugs me since I work so hard to keep my MacBook Pro perfect and yet there are black spots forming.
I have the Santa Rosa Version.

This has been reported and documented [here|http://www.appledefects.com/wiki/index.php?title=MacBookPro#Corrosion_on_MBPTopcase]. Some people's body chemistry interacts with the aluminum finish, causing this pitting. Since you can't change your body and typing with rubber gloves is a drag only option would be to get some sort of covering or skin.
If the top case is already pitted, there's no way to replace the metal that's gone, so you would have to replace the entire top case assembly. If under warranty, this repair may be covered, but don't take my word for it. For DIY'fers, [see here|http://www.powerbookmedic.com/Top-Case-Trackpad-Assembly-for-MacBook-Pro-p -16975.html]. Note that transferring the keyboard from one top case to another is a major PITA, so if it is also damaged/pitted/glossy/etc, you may want to consider replacing it at the same time.

  • Macbook Air 2010 trackpad stop working when touching case (palm rest)

My MBA 2010 A1369 had demaged keyboard and trackpad by liquid. I got used whoel top case and replace. (not myself)
Seller claimed it is ok but we face one problem. when I touch case (palm rest) trackpad stops responding. When on one side partly when with both hands then completely. Even when touching case from side. Even when case is comered by paper. So it strange behavior.
Both cases were from A1369 model but on mine was black plastic foil over part of keyboard while on other not. So I am not sure there could be some other differences that could cause this.
Would anybody has any suggestion where could be problem? Wrong contact bad insulation somewhere or faulty trackpad.
    Thanks a lot.

I reply by myself. Problem was in trackpad. I tried another one and it is ok now. Previous one probably suffer some liquid demage on sides.

  • Created site in iweb 08 and posted to netfirms... the pages are all loaded up but there is no nav bar, it comes up on each page as a small black dot. How do I get the nav bar to load up and show?

I created site in iweb 08 and posted to netfirms... the pages are all loaded up but there is no nav bar, where the nav bar should be is only a small black dot on each page. How do I get the nav bar to load up and show? It was a disaster loading up my site as it changed the case of the letters and at first no pages were seen, so I had to go through and change the letters that were supposed to be cap, back to cap in every file. I don't know if this has something to do with it or not. The tech support doesn't have an answer. Please let me know if you have any ideas and solutions. Thanks bunches!

  • Black dots, possibly dead pixels on my brand new Ipod Touch?

I just purchased a new 4th Gen 32gb Ipod touch from Walmart, there were about 4 black dots, possilby dead pixels upon opening, not even a single smudge on the screen yet, but they were there, so I called and exchanged it for another brand new one, to find the same things this time appearing in the center of my screen. Is this a common issure with Ipod Touchs, or is it just bad luck two times in a row/ what can I do about this? Thanks

Not it's not common.  It seems as though you just happened to have 2 bad ones in a row.  I would try returning it again either for a full refund so that you can purchase an iPod Touch elsewhere, or exchanging it for another one.

I believe your only option will be to get Apple to replace the screen for you, which won't be cheap.  If the machine is still covered under warranty, you could try to push the case that the screen must be defective for a bug to get in there.  Apple has been known to do free out-of-warranty service in some pretty unbelievable circumstances, that that is at their discretion, so be very pleasant and polite so they'll like you and want to help you out.    But be prepared to have to pay for the repair.
    Good luck!

  • What is this black dot on the side of my MacBook Pro? What is it for? How do I get to it?

I have a MacBook Pro (2011 Model & 13") and I was wondering . . . What is this black dot on the side of my MacBook Pro? What is it for and how do I get to it?
P.S.  I feel stupid asking this question  . . ..  . because I know those who answer will know exactly about it and what to do with it . .

To be honest when I first got it, I thought I broke that hole . . . see I assumed it was a button to eject the CD slot, and I managed to either push it in deep enough, or smash it off. . .. .  I once got a tooth pick and fiddled around in there in atempt to find something. . ..

  • IPhone 5  has black dot on photos

Just recently my 2 year old iPhone 5 is showing a black dot/mark when I look through the view finder and is appearing on the photos too, also on videos but for perhaps obvious reasons not on the reverse camera! The external lens appears to be clean.
Can anyone help with this, please? I have switched the phone off and on - I have also rebooted it (just in case!).

  • Can I use a 60Y5419 palm rest on an X201 (not X201s) rather than a 60Y5415

I need to replace the palm rest on my X201.
I believe that the proper part for the X201 is the 60Y5415 and the part for the X201s is the 60Y5419.
Are these parts different to the degree that I can not use a 60Y5419? I can get one for half the price, so I would much rather use a 60Y5419.
    Thanks!

It's good to read Antoniad's post.  It reassures me that I can use my new iPad as an international communication device which is the reason I purchased the thing.  However, I called Verizon today (my provider of cellular data) who told me that I can't just pop in a SIM card as you suggested.  He also said that he was from the "Pre-Pay" division of Verizon and he was certain that I couldn't do what I planned to do.  I was extremely disappointed as I had called Apple prior to buying the iPad and I read the algorhythm on the website for choosing an iPad before purchasing.  Those sources were quite specific and the information seemed clear.  I would be able to use my iPad to communicate through cellular connections while traveling on the road, literally, abroad.  I was told that I could pop in a data card wherever I was, just as you indicated in your message above, and voila I was good to go.  The Verizon rep definitively rained on that parade, but said that I might be able to do this if I have a "Post-Pay" account, a different area of Verizon.  I haven't had the chance to talk to this division yet, so I looked to Apple's Support for answers.  Maybe I will find out that I can use my iPad as an international communication device while traveling on the road afterall, however, it appears I may need a different type of account (Post-Pay), something I was never warned about. Can I switch to this kind of account?  I don't know.  I have to find out.  If you have any information about this issue, it would be good to share since I strongly suspect there are others who bought the iPad for the same purpose that I have.

Black dots under the icons in the Dock?
If an application is running, it is normal seeing a black dot under the application in the Dock.
Closing the window doesn't make the application quit.
Quit the application from the menu bar.

  • Truly doesn't fit anywhere: Palm rest area question.

The palm rest area, toward the bottom of the computer, has started to peel/chip away.
Literally. If I got a flashlight, I could see into my laptop.
I was just wondering if this piece of plastic (that also surrounds all of the keys and touch pad) could be replaced?
It isn't a cleanliness issue. It is an overuse issue. I love my MacBook. It would be awesome to replace it and have it appear like new even though it is two years old.

You can get it replaced but I don't know how much it would be.

  • Black dot in text box, can't enter texg

    Hello,
I have a black dot in both text boxes, and when I try to enter text, the canvas gets "crazy" on the left side. I fixed it this morning, but now I have it again, and I can't recall what I did to fix it.
    Thank you

Your guess is correct, Sir Doug of Gilmore, as is your suggestion to create a new track.
The black dot appears when the selected track is a graphic or other object, such as a background.
To the original poster and asker of questions, LiveType treats eveything as if it were typeable. Press any key and your object will appear once more, in so far as that it fits in the frame.
Please do not ask which one is the "Any" key.
Disclaimer: "typeable" is not neccessarily a word that you will find in a dictionary.
