Black drop shadow bleeding onto white text during printing (but looks fine on screen)

For my business card design I have white text overlapping an area of very white grey- causing readability issues (insufficient contrast). It looks great apart from this one problem, so I still want to keep my white text and light background and fix it by separating the text and background with a darker drop shadow..
First, I added a black drop shadow to the text- but this was not enough to increase readability (text still looked faded on background as drop shadow was too subtle at 85% opacity, 0.04" blur) so I added a drop shadow to my drop shadow (100% opacity, 0.02" blur + 18% opacity, 0.02" blur). This produced a heavier drop shadow effect for my text as desired but, for some reason, the text came out slightly grey in print (offset run). It seems the drop shadow somehow got printed over the text itself to some extent- turning the white text somewhat grey (and so not looking as clean as intended).
How could this dropshadow bleed into the text happen? Is it to do with the fact I added a drop shadow to my drop shadow? I would have thought that, even then, the text should entirely overlap all of the drop shadow as the text is the top layer in the group.
What can I do to ensure that drop shadow does not print over text in any way in future? Do I have to stick to only one layer of dropshadow-or is there something else I'm missing?

One way this could happen is if the white fill of your text was not with 100% opacity.
Also, do you see a whiter place than your text on your business card? It could be the color of the paper if you are comparing with the white of the image on screen without proper color management.

Adobe PDF plugin 10.1.5.33 does not print correctly. Some text comes out all garbled but looks fine on screen.

I am using Adobe PDF plugin 10.1.5.33. I can open PDF files and they look fine. When I print some of the test comes out all garbled - usually labels, notes at bottom etc. If I disable plugin then when I open PDF Firefox uses Adobe PDF reader to open file and then printing is fine. I am seeing the same issue with Reader 11.0.1.36. Without the Adobe plugin enabled, no issue. Probably related to the type of font being used for the garbled text. There are many font bugs related to various fonts and various Adobe programs filed at Bugzilla. Looks like Adobe has some fixing to do with their Firefox / Netscape plugin.

At times, the type in the bookmarks toolbar as well as the tabs changes to white with a drop shadow on a white background, making it very difficult to read. I do not know what it causing the colors to change. Is there any way to fix this?

PDF looks fine on screen but text does not print

PDF created from Word looks fine on screen but text does not print (graphics do). Alos loses text on FTP or Email. Windows 8.1 64bit. Acrobat XI Std. Word2013. Print to PDF from Word 600dpi, use doc fonts, download as softfont. Arial, calibrai - all fonts lost. Same issue as Phillipio61 and alacker2?.

Problem not with all fonts. Problem with arial and calibri fonts - maybe others. Times New Roman, gil sans, viner are OK for example.

Drop shadows show as white boxes

Please can anyone tell me why (most of) the drop shadows on my site are showing as a fine white line around the image? This is only happening on images - not text. Can I fix it somehow? Baby-talk replied here as I am new to this. You can see the problem at www.bothepoodle.co.uk

As a test, I put your "Bo the Poodle" on a web page with just a shadow:

...and no white outline appears. Do you have another element such as an empty text box behind Bo?

White box behind transparent images with drop shadow in InDesign CC 2014 (v.10) but not in InDesign CC (v.9)

Hi all,
Please can you help? No matter what settings I use in my print options in InDesign CC 2014 (v.10), ALL transparent images with a drop shadow are printing with a white box behind the image. If I remove the drop shadow, all prints fine. I know this is an old issue that happens with ID sometimes but I have been lucky enough to never have had it happen to me before! (All images are regular flattened TIFF images with clipping paths).
Also, feathered edges are not printing correctly and are sharp instead of feathered.
When I export the document to IDML and open it up in InDesign CC (v.9) all prints perfectly with no white boxes and feathered edges prints perfectly as well. I have compared all of the print settings (including color management, transparency flattener, etc.) between both versions and they are exactly the same. I am printing to a Xerox color laser printer. Can anyone offer any advice?

Okay...false alarm! It turns out that the issue was with my PRINTER settings (the settings you customize after hitting the “Printer” button at the bottom of the Print dialogue box in ID CC. I thought I had triple checked this but it seems there was one setting I missed earlier…adjusting the print brightness seemed to cause the issue. SO GLAD to know it was not InDesign…20 or so sheets/prints later….and thankful to know what was causing the issue! Thank you so much Steve for helping at any rate:) Much appreciated:)

Hi, Im working on a postcard with text that has a dropshadow. Everything appears as it should on the pdf, but once printed the drop shadow is no longer aligned correctly and moves about 3 inches to the left when printed - ruinging the design. What could cause this issue? Thank you.

Are you printing the pdf from the Acrobat Pro, Reader, Illustrator? What happens if you print the .ai to your printer. What printer are you sending to?

In Logic X printing to pdf gives me strange drop shadows after the notes, text.. etc.

I'm doing a score layout in logic pro X and sended some PDF print files to my client, but he said there were drop shadows on the notes and text. It's really annoying and I can't figure out what the solution for this problem could be. I opened an older project in logic 9 to find out if it was the software, or maybe the conversion to pdf, but in logic 9 there was no problem . The pdf's were sharp as a knife.
Is there a solution for this problem?

I thought it was just a screen appearance so I made a pdf and the photo is lighter here too. I've never had this issue with CS5.5 or earlier. Drop shadows were able to be applied to one object without affecting others on the page. Is it a bug? Is there a setting I'm missing? Thanks!

Overprint preview didn't stop the lightening of the photo.
A google search turned up the suggestion to change the transparency blend space to RGB, which worked in InDesign. When I make the pdf (no color conversion) it looks ok. But when turning on Output Preview in Acrobat, the photo lightens again. Weird and frustrating - I'm not sure what the final output will look like.
Is Transparency Flattener set at High res an option?

Barcode overlapping with text during print.

Hi,
I have created a smartform which consists of date and a barcode followed by its corresponding number. The print preview looks perfect. However, in the actual printout, the barcode gets overlapped on the date.
I have tried putting extra space, adding dummy text variables etc in the template.
Can anyone suggest a solution?

Bold text in printing but not in the document (SHARP MX-4112N PCL6p) Why???

My PDF looks fine (made in Indesign CS6). But when it´s printed some of the text, closed to a isolated picture (psd), turns bold(!). You can not see it on the screen, it only appears in the print (SHARP MX-4112N PCL6p). How do I solve this? Is the problem in Indesign, Acrobat or the drivers in the printer????

Thank you for your answer. I had a person from the company who provides the printer here. He reinsalled new drivers (also compatible and very common for Mac computers even though I have a PC). He also told me to check the box for Print as image under the button Advanced in the printers dialog box. Now it works perfect!

Print preview looks fine but window space on worksheets prints all black

Recently purchased new HP Deskjet 1512 . I digitize embroidery and Chenille designs. Since purchasing the new printer,
intermittently the worksheets , which look fine on the print preview, will print completely black in the window workspace
area. The rest of the page prints ok. I have already had the problem trouble-shooted with my software company. I've been told that the printer driver is most likely the problem. Windows 7 Professional is my operating system. Has anyone encountered this problem???

How do I remove drop shadows from the default text in the labels of a Numbers pie chart?

I set up a pie chart in Numbers and set labels for percentage. The default text has drop shadowss. They do print well at the scale needed for the page. I cannot find out how to remove these shadows for clearer printing. Can the shadows be removed?

Nevermind. Found the answer in nthe side bar under "Re:how can I print the figures (text) in a chart WITHOUT a cast shadow. I had the Font window set too narrow and it did not show the Text Shadow button in the tool bar. Unclicking that worked.

Drop shadow on image renders text also

pages with transparency icon in the page panel will render also text on the page; a regular font-type gets a bold-presentation. how can be prevent this misrepresentation. i tried a lot of things, but only cancelling the dropshadow-effect of the image shows the text proper.

This is a well-known issue for type on pages with transparency when viewing on screen or printing to low-resolution devices. The only way to make all the text look the same under those conditions is to add transparency to all pages. Press output is generally not affected.
