Black flash frames introduced upon QT export

I'm having an issue where upon exporting a QT of my sequence, it introduces one-frame black flash frames in between every cut, both in the QT and in the sequence. This is a standard DV NTSC 48kHz sequence. Running FCP 6.0.5. Any ideas?

Is this in your timeline too? Zoom in between two cuts to see if there is a gap between clips.

  • Red flash frames on C300 sequence exports

Still no fix for this widely noted issue, Adobe?
I'm currently trying to get a job completed and the process of getting anything out of Premiere is absolutely painful...
I have tried all the suggested solutions - trashing preferences and media cache files. I saw somewhere that removing any clips that are a different codec to your footage (in this case it's MXF files from a C300) fixed the problem. Tried switching hardware GPU acceleration off. None of these things have worked. I've had to export the sequence several different times and then stitch these exports together in a new sequence (skipping out the numerous red flash frames, of course) just to get a clean export out. Pitiful.
I can see reports of this happening over a year ago - why hasn't it been fixed? I think it's pretty scandalous that this hasn't been sorted - Premiere is advertised as being able to handle these camera formats natively...well, it can't right now for me if using the native camera files results in issues like this.
Has anyone found any other work arounds that I haven't noted above?

    Hi Mark,
According to the "about Premiere Pro" window, I am on 8.2.0 (65) build.
I have had the same issue exporting out of both Premiere and Adobe Media Encoder - the build of AME is 8.2.0.54.

  • Flash Frames on h.264 Export

We are exporting an edit for web using the h.264 codec. The edit plays through fine on the timeline but each time we export there are a couple flash frames in the edit. These flash frames usually occur within a second of an upcoming cut and will flash a frame of the next shot we are going to prematurely.
My initial thought is that it has to do with the Key Frame settings on the export or is perhaps due to bad render files. If anyone has experienced this and could point me in the direction of what the issue is that would be much appreciated.
    Tom

If you are exporting to h.264 directly from the FCP timeline, try exporting the sequence as "current settings" then do the conversion in Compressor.

  • Black, flashing frames in render!

I have a big feature film I'm trying to export out and annoyingly a number of shots throughout the film have those annoying black frames strobing/flashing through them!
It is a pretty big project, 90minutes.  Some shots use warp stabilization, few shots in the timeline are linked to AE comps, and nearly every single shot has Colorista and MB looks effects on them, some also have addt'l color masks on them.
The last export took 4 days.  CUDA was on in Premiere, but MB looks had to have OpenGL turned off (due to issues with MB Looks otherwise).
I've tried to find similarities between the flashing shots (most do not flash, just some) but it seems pretty random...  Some shots with heavy color look fine, others dont.  Some shots with stabilizer look fine, others are flashing.  Same with AE shots.
When i export short, few second clips - it looks fine.  The problem happens when I export the whole film.  But I can't possibly play 'trial and error' when i have to wait 4 days for a complete render!
Please help!  This is really urgent.
I'm using Premiere CC with an Nvidia Quadro 2000 card.  All media files on external USB3.0 drives.
    thanks,
    Matt

    Hi Jim Simon,
I was told that 1920x810 is the standard RED Wide format. So I wanted my 5d video to look the same as the RED wide.
"When a commercial widescreen movie is mastered for distribution on Blu-Ray disc, it's rendered at the full 1920-pixel width of the FHD format. Due to its wide aspect ratio, however, the movie's height covers only about 810 pixels of the 1080-pixel height of the screen, with upper and lower borders letterboxed. This 1920x810 frame is the native size of widescreen Blu-Ray video."
And also I really don't think that the sequence size would matter to render the project.

  • Transitions -- Cross Dissolve: FLASH FRAME

When I insert a Cross Dissolve, 15-20% of the time there is one frame black at the end, ruining the transition. (Black flash frame).
Tried deleting transition, reapplying - no luck.
How can I be rid of this?

This is a total shot into the blue, so please be patient...
Have you looked at what all those clips that exhibit this problem may have in common? Perhaps all of them have an odd number of frames? If so, you may be onto a way to work around the problem.
If it's just the last frame, you may try to simply 'split at playhead' at the final transition frame, and delete the last frame, not the whole transition.
I know that this is annoying at best, but maybe woth a shot.
    Hope this helps,

  • Premiere Pro CS6 error - black flashes on frames - Basic 3D bug?

I am currently working on a lyric music video which incorporates video and still image backgrounds with lyrics superimposed over the top in time to the music. I'm adding the lyrics by creating images with the words in Photoshop and then animating them (scrolling, spins, wipes, etc) in Premiere. All was going well until I tried a recent render and noitced that some effects were showing flashes of black on screen during text movement (flips or twists seem to be the culprit). I figured it was a render error but after trying a few different output methods and not curing the problem I realised I was getting the issue on the timeline when scrubbing through frame by frame. I've attached some images to demonstrate the problem. If I open an earlier saved version of the project then effect is fine on render and on scrubbing through the timeline. Have my later saved project files got corrupted at some point? If it was a software or hardware issue I would have expected it to have been happening from the outset but this effect has been fine until now. Is it fixable or do I have to go back a few versions and redo my recent work?
Ok I've just realised while grabbing the attached images that the black frames appear to be occurring on the first frame of each new text still image - I don't know if that helps with identifying the problem?
Ok another update - it appears to be the Basic 3D video effect that is causing the problem - if I remove that and have the text just appear then the black flashes go. But as I said above it worked fine in earlier project versions so it can work and isn't an inherent fault so I really hope I can find a solution and not have to remove the effect.
Really hoping someone can solve this for me, it's only a hobby video not a job but I've put a lot of hours in and am nearly finished so would be pretty bummed if I can't resolve the problem.
    Thanks :-)

An update - this is definitely looking like a bug!
Each of the words is a separate Photoshop image cropped to the size of the word and I have then used the Basic 3D effect to rotate each image in turn from -90 degrees to 0 degrees so it appears on screen. Yesterday I tried changing the settings for the first clip and the black square disappeared if I reduced the range to -63 degrees to 0 degrees.
Success! Or so i thought. I moved the the next image and changed the range to -63 degreees to 0 degrees but the black square remained. In face I had to reduce the start rotation down to -58 degrees before the black square disappeared from that image. This progression continued with each subsequent clip needing a futher reduction the starting rotation so by the time I got to the last image I the start rotation had to come down from -90 degrees to around -20 degrees.
Defintely a bug? (It works the same whether I was using negative or positive start angles btw).
I'll try using a different file format for the word images in case it's an issue with Photoshop image

  • Partial black flashes/stripes on exported m4v and sometimes mov????

    Hi everyone,
I just bought a Canon HF100 full HD camcorder and a Class 6 8GB SDHC card which according to Canon manual should be fast enough to record full HD by the camera.
So the question is that in iMovie 08 where I've imported it at full resolution - when I export it using Share -> Export Movie and select either Medium or Large i get black flashes or stripes in the output video - note that they don't go across the whole video though
I didn't think I was getting it using Share -> Export using Quicktime but I just saw one today that only has 1 black flash but it's there
Playback in imovie shows no black flashes at all.
I've tried exporting all sizes and all qualities and see black flashes in all qualities and sizes..
Just wondering what it might be caused by???
    Thanks

  • Black Flashes in Premiere and on Final DVD

I was not too concerned about the situation in the Source Monitor when about every 4 seconds I see a very fast, but obvious (nonetheless) Black Flash/Flicker on the screen. I thought it may be just a playback/RAM thing and that it would not go onto the final DVD burn.  However, that was not the case, the Export, Burning and Playback of the DVD carried the Black Flash over. I am using Premiere Pro CC 2014. The footage is a mix of a Canon XH A1 and a Panasonic GH3. I have tried Square Pixels, NTSC and just a host of things that I lost track on, but it is annoying and obvious and has to be fixed. I am hopeful that there is an easy answer -- Please Help!!!

Same issue here exporting to MPEG2. I'm using Premiere Pro CC 2014 on a Mac Book Pro. My source video is AVCHD. I'm getting a frame of black at a regular interval of 1 second. This only occurs with Premiere Pro CC 2014. My older version of Premiere Pro CC exports it fine.

  • Black flashes on render

Hi! I am rendering a sequence with premiere and I am having black flashes on the final movie.  I tried different formats, but I don't know what it is.  It looks like a random black frame every 10 seconds more or less...
I have my files on an external hard drive connnected through usb.  Could it be something related to that?

Hi there - I am having a similar issue - black flashes on my exported video that are not there when I watched it on the timeline.
    Here is my info:
    1) Premiere Pro CC 2014
    2) MacBook Pro
    3) Intel Iris Pro Graphics
NVIDIA GeForce GT 750M graphics processor with 2GB of GDDR5 memory
    4) Mpg4
If you have any info, I'd appreciate it! THANKS!

  • How do I get a lip sync flash frame sequence to encode properly

I built a flash frame sequ
ence in Premiere.  It is 2 seconds long with the
first two frame white and the remaining time black
frames. This is repeated for 1 minute.  If I encode it in non-compressed AVI it is correct.  If I use
MPEG2 or H.264 to build a transport stream, I see two white frames
as I would expect, then black frames for the rest of the sequence.  Over 15 seconds, I will start to see three frames, gray, white and gray again.  Eventually, the white or gray frame starts two frames later than it should.  I built this as a 720P/60 sequence with non-drop frame timecode.  I have tried all I frames and the same issue occurs.  The GOP structure does not seem to have an effect.  There is no audio in this stream.  It as if it cannot handle the quick and short transistion from white to black.  There are some advanced settings for MPEG 2 but I cannot see where they are explained in the Premier help document.  I need this stream to measure latency on a piece of video equipment.
    Thanks
    Ralph

    Bill,
Your answer gave me a hint to what was happening.  I'm fairly new to Premier and took for granted that the preset I chose at the begining of the program would carry through to the sequence, wrong!  I found another discussion that talked about resetting the properties of a sequence.  I expanded the project box a little and saw that it said my sequence was 59.94 frame rate not 60.  I followed the instructions on the other discussion.  File, new sequence, general, editing mode, and frame rate.  The frame rate was set to 59.94 not 60.  I reset it to 60, closed all the menues and deleted the original 59.94 sequence.  The new sequence I just created shows a 60 Hz frame rate.  I exported my lip sync project as an MPEG 2 transport stream and it was correct according to our MPEG analyzer.
    Thanks again for the help.

  • Red flash frame

    Hello,
As instructed in this thread, I've started a new thread regarding this problem.
I work as an editor at a channel with Premiere CC 7.2.1 installed as our NLE. We have several 27" iMacs, 21" iMacs and about a dozen MacbookPro's.
We have experienced the red flash frame several times. It has appeared on MXF and ProRes exports. In one case, (using a MacBook Pro) it was generated on a ProRes export, but not on the low res proxy (unsure of format, will update as soon as I know) that is generated when we export to Sienna.
Red frames have also been introduced on MXF exports from iMac's (i7 27"), via ethernet to an Isilon.
I've taken the advice on the previous thread and told an editor to delete her cache and re-export. She did this and the red frames were not on the new export.
However, we have a high turnaround of news and current affairs content where a red frame may not be spotted. This could happen in a SOT or PKG for news. This file with the red frame could be loaded into ENPS and played out live. As the producer will be viewing the proxy in Sienna, they will not see the red frame as it'll only be on the ProRes, which is in a TX server they do not have access too.
The added danger is that if that section of programming is repeated, it will not be TX'd live from in house, it will be TX'd by a third party. Who (I assume) will pick up the red frame and hit us with a fine.
So, Adobe, is there a fix coming? Or is there anything we can do to ensure this does not happen?

To add, the low res proxy is an MPEG movie at 640 x 360, .mov suffix. No red frames appear on this.

  • Flash Frame Limit

I already know that Flash's frame limit is 16,000, but is
this every single frame in every single scene, graphic, movie clip,
all added together, or is it just 16,000 per each item (scene,
    movie clip, graphic, etc)?

    This is a good question.
Scenes are only part of the flash authoring tool - upon
export they become one long timeline - so if
you have 2 scenes, 100 frames each, upon export frame 1 in
scene 2 is now really frame 101. So it
doesnt matter when it comes to scenes.
Graphic symbols are in sync with main timeline so they can be
    ruled out as "separate".
Movie clips are independant and you can have 1 that is 16,000
frames long - but then can you have a
2nd MC on frame 2 of main timeline that is also 16,000 frames
long thereby making the overall length
32,000 frames? good question - not sure - never tried it -
never needed to - or i would have setup
my movie differently to avoid such a length - i would try it
    and see.

  • Fcpx with magic bullet green and pink flash frames

Hi I'm using fcpx with magic bullet. all recent updates. an imac 3.4ghz 32gb ram 512ssd drive and 512mb card. I keep getting pink and green flash frames whenever i colour grade in magic bullet.
first 22 secs of project were fine, next day I added to it, flash frames everywhere throughout the entire project. tried everything. is it a bug?
    cheers

This problem is completely averted, for me (and reportedly most others), by exporting using "Send to Compressor" rather than using any FCPX presets. That is, no flashes or green/purple/upside-down frames show up in the final output.
I would hardly have believed that the "engine" used in Compressor is different to FCPX - but that is obviously (simplistically) the case.
This is also some confirmation that the problem is with FCPX - not the plugin.

  • Filter for rolling CMOS rolling shutter flash frames?

I seem to recall stumbling upon a filter that removed offending frames from footage shot with a rolling shutter camera during flash photography. I didn't download it- but now I need it.
Is there a easy fix or plug in that will remove the rolling flash frames from a clip?

  • Flash frame problem fcpx.

When I drop clips into my timeline (W) or when I copy and paste a clip from the timeline or hold "option" and copy a clip and drag it elsewhere. I always get these flash frames. Sometimes they are so small I can't expand the timeline enough to delete them. Anyone having the same problem?

After I left the last message, things started getting even wierder. First, video scrubbing stopped working--nothing, wouldn't scrub at all. So I did a restart, and then video scrubbing started responding but would cause strobing flash frames as I was scrubbing. Much more than just a few frames between clips, but all throughout. At the same time my laptop fans were kicked into high, and the computer was getting very hot.
I looked at my activity monitor, but the cpu wasn't working more than maybe a fifth of capacity. I then checked my dock and noticed that I had Quicktime 7 Pro running. I had used it to trim a video and output an audio sample from it. Just an old workflow habit. I shut down Quicktime and the fans quieted down, and then the scrubbing/strobing stopped happening. It was scrubbing smoothly again.
I remembered I had previously duplicated the project I have been having the problems with, so I went back to the earlier copy. It still had the two story lines, with no black or flash frames yet. So I repeated the same process that had caused the flash frames to appear, dragging the clips from the secondary storyline down to the main storyline, and deleating the previous main storyline clips. I then dragged a buch of clips around, and added more with the 'e' command.
No flash frames or black frames. No fans running on high. No overheating.
I'm pretty sure that I started Quicktime 7 immediately after I duplicated the project, and it was still running when I made the changes to the duplicate that started exhibiting problems. And now with Quicktime off, I can't get it to repeat the flash-frame-effect. So it looks like, in my case at least, the cause of the problems was having FCPX and Quicktime 7 running at the same time.
