Black font shows up as white.

When I go to type a word, I dont have a curser to see where I am. Also when I try to type in black ink, it doesn't show up. When I click on other colors, the blues are a light red, and the reds are dark blues. Is there anything I can do?

This was a common problem back in Snow Leopard & seems to have made a return lately. Make sure you have updated iWork to at least 9.0.5. The current version is 9.1 which takes advantage of Lion features.
If you're not running the latest versions & Software Update says your software is up to date, make sure the applications are where the installer initially put them. The updaters are very picky. If the location is not where the updater is programmed to look or if the folder doesn't have the name the updater looks for, it will not work. The applications cannot be renamed or moved. If you installed from the downloaded trial or the retail box, they must be in the iWork '09 folder in Applications. That iWork folder must be named iWork '09. If it doesn't have the '09 Software Update won't find them & the updaters won't work.

Windows 7 bootcamp show black screen with a small white bar

I just upgraded my iMac mid 2011 21.5" with a crucial m4 SSD. The SSD is plugged in the disk 1 DATA port and on the SSD power on the motherboard. I fully installed Windows 7 with all the driver and updates. My mac is upgraded with the lastest update. The crucial m4 firmware is 009. I installed no driver for the SSD.
The problem is that when I start my bootcamp it only show a black screen with a small white bar on the corner. I waited about 5 minutes before to close the computer manually. The only way my bootcamp work is when I put my Windows 7 DVD in the reader for the startup.

Sometimes windows installation will install a WDM driver for ati or nvidia. It causes the screen to go black altho ugh everything else is running in the background. I found that using an external monitor will allow you to see the screen so that you can install the lastest bootcamp drivers. After the drivers are installed the screen comes back. I reinstalled windows 3 times and tried all other solutions including repairing the hard drive in disk utility.

You sure that the monitor isn't set to a color or darkness that doesn't make dark blue look like black?
I would force the text color with Microsoft Word to black or automatic, and see if it makes a difference. It should be obvious by the spectrum when you choose it what color it is using. If it is not on the complete dark end of the spectrum, it could be picking dark blue.

Black font with white contour?

I have a "cloudy" background, changing from light to dark. Best font option would be a black font with white contour. I know how to get the font into "contour" but, how can I cange the filling of the contour?

Black MacBook showing up white in Finder.

Hello all, I've had a Mac for a little over a year now, so obviously I've only gotten to use Leopard, and I'm uncertain about Tiger, Panther, etc. But whenever I have my computer shown in the sidebar in the Finder, my Black MacBook always shows up as White, and I don't really understand why. No one in my immediate family uses a Mac, so I can't test to see if it shows up Black or White in their Finder.
This is one of those annoyances that you know is really small, but it just bugs you. Can anyone help?

PS - I know that the Finder has hi-res icons (512x512) located at /System/Library/CoreServices/CoreTypes.bundle
Right-click on the bundle and select "Show Package Contents". There's actually a lot of really slick hi-res icons to be found here.
What I'm getting at is I can see all of the Apple portables over the years (including a black MacBook and a white MacBook.) I know it's there but it's not showing the right icon for my computer.

Could be the codes read by that piece of software do not necessarily distinguish between the black and white models - which is only a cosmetic difference. On my various systems the icon for a given item is not even always the same - right now on my main MacBook my USB disk attached to the Airport Extreme router looks like an iMac while the same view from my wife's PowerBook it looks at it should (like a router). If it works I wouldn't worry about it - but you could try a cache cleaner utility to see if that makes any difference - or if you know for such which icon file is being used - copy the black icon file and rename it to take the place of the white icon file.

I asked this question several days ago and see that it got about 90 views, but no responses. I don't know if I asked the question improperly, or whether it can't be done, or nobody has a solution. I've asked it again below with a bit more detail. I sure would appreciate some kind of response, because I'm lost here.
I've created a book file (children's fantasy) with some colored fonts and anchored png images with transparent backgrounds. Basic paragraph (body text) is black. The "Export to Kindle" mobi file displays fine on Kindle for PC and Kindle Previewer when displayed in normal (white background) mode.
Kindle PC alows viewing on white, sepia or black background. Works fine on white and sepia, but when the black color mode is selected (night viewing option) the black text does not display as white text. What can I do to have the black text automatically change to white?
While trying to find a solution, I created an epub file of the book and, using Calibre, converted it to mobi. When this mobi file is loaded into Kindle PC, the black text does automatically change to white when viewed on the black screen. I would use this method of creating the mobi, but then there is different problem here. The png image no longer has a transparent background; it has been flattened with a white background. This looks bad on both the sepia and black backgrounds modes on Kindle. Same result when I use KindleGen to convert the epub. What can I do to maintain a trasparent background on my png image?

If you're not getting response here, it may be because not many people have used the Kindle plug-in. I've not tried it. The plug-in usually lags the InDesign versions. I think the current version recently added support for InDesign CS6. EPUB guru Anne-Marie Concepcion twittered this week that she thought the plug-in was much improved but still recommended using the EPUB to KindleGen method.

Chinese characters show up as white boxes when doing captions

I am using Premiere Pro CC 2014 on a late 2013 MacBook Pro. I am trying to add Traditional Chinese subtitles to my video. I have imported a .dfxp file and added it to the timeline on V2 above my video track on V1. I have rendered the timeline. I have activated the closed captioning display. When I view the .dfxp file in the Captions Window, I can see the Chinese characters in the text boxes with their associated in and out points on the timeline. THE PROBLEM: IN THE PROGRAM MONITOR WINDOW, THE CHINESE CHARACTERS SHOW UP AS WHITE BOXES INSTEAD OF THE CHINESE CHARACTERS.
I have added all of the available Chinese fonts from Adobe Typekit. I have restarted Premiere to see if adding these fonts did anything to help. It did not. My question: how can I get the Chinese characters to appear instead of the white boxes?

I just noticed this for the first time today, that Arial Black shows in italics. Unfortunately, unlike you, mine looks and prints in italics even though I don't have the italics button set. I just tried making a pdf and the italics still show. But today was the first time. All my other pdfs show the Arial Black in regular straight up font. Anybody know what might me going on???
I use the Arial Black font for the date on my weekly newsletter. I've attached pdfs from last week (with the straight font) and what I've done so far on today's (with the suddenly italicized font). Please help.

Arial Black keeps showing in Italic!

Im opening a file I havent used in a while which I know was correct before. This file is using an Arial Black font. Originally it showed as normal type. Its been a while and now when I open it, it shows it in italic. The "I" button isnt turned on and the font window says "Arial Black". This is on the newer Vista machine. I opened it also on the older XP machine and its doing the same thing. I tried multiple similar files that use this same font and all are showing in italic....ugh!!! I found an Arial MT Black font on the net and installed it but that doesnt even show in the font list in Pagemaker. Whats going on?

All bets with PM on Vista are null and void.

It is guitardad's again... I read past topics on this issue... As I am not overly computer savvy, I want to be careful that I don't mess things up further... Arial Black, Rockwell Bold, Cooper Black fonts don't render.

This has been a problem since FF4 and has been unresolved. Please fix. Note: when hardware acceleration is turned off (or more specifically gfx.direct2d.disabled is set to true) those fonts render. This is only a problem on Win7 (32 and 64 bit)

You need to add specific font attributes to make Firefox use such fonts. Firefox places all fonts that belong to a specific family in one group on Windows 7+ and you need to use a selector like "font-weight:900;" to select Arial Black from the Arial group. Otherwise Arial is used.
You will have to find out which selectors to use for Rockwell Bold and Cooper Black to make Firefxo use them on Window 7.

Hi, yes preferences sees there is a second display it recognises what make of monitor it is etc but I just get a blank blue screen on the monitor when I change it to the hdmi setting! I have tried with mirroring on and off, rearranging the displays in the preference window and lots of different resolution settings but with no difference.
An old MacBook connects fine so the monitor and hdmi port must be okay. I'm sure we have used the cable before but it could have been with the previous MacBook Air. The current one I'm using is a mid 2011 version running lion and is (according to software update) all up to date.
Any thoughts or help would be appreciated!

I think that your Mac detects your hard disk, but the problem is that your new hard disk doesn't contain any operating system, so your Mac doesn't find any bootable partition and you see a question mark.
If your Mac came with DVDs, insert the Mac OS X Install DVD and hold the C key while your Mac is starting. Then, just install Mac OS X. If the hard disk isn't prepared to install Mac OS X, you will have to erase it using "Mac OS Extended (Journaled)". See > http://pondini.org/OSX/DU1.html
