Black Gradients!!

Hi,
I've ripped a footage from DVD (not copyrighted) and it's fine in quicktime player, VLC etc. But once I inport it into Final Cut Pro it placed black gradients on both the left and right side of the video.
Whats gone wrong?

Hi thanks for the reply.
I checked the resolutions, and all the settings match. But when I dragged the footage in again the black gradients were gone. Maybe I draged the footage into the timeline before setting up the sequence. Could It be that?
Thanks

  • Removing black gradient background in new Revolution theme

I've got a project I'm working on where I want to have my own background image applied to the Revolution theme. However, the black gradient covers up most of my background image. How do I get rid of that? I've looked everywhere for that graphic or that code. Anyone?

I would like to remove the background too, since it creates a black haze over everything. I was able to brighten up the background a bit by dropping a white 853 x 480 .png file into the background. The rotating drop boxes show up better, but still not bright like the theme thumbnails.
The coal dust look seems to be a transparent screen in the foreground. Makes the whole effect morose.
Where you able to find a cure? Usually themes are very customizable. If you come up with a fix please let me know.

  • When I add a black gradient in a layer mask it only appears white, how do I change the colour?

When adding a layer mask to an image to add mulitple gradients, when I add a gradient with the colour set (black) and draw it onto the image it appears white or npothing appears at all. I have tried removing all white from the gradient colour palette and trying various different colour combinations but white is the only colour that seems to want to appear as a gradient.
If someone could help with this is would be extremely grateful.
    Thanks

As you can see, within the original image I have created a gradient overlay. This blends the two imags together. But the two midle images can only have one gradeint. I want another gradient on the image and to do this I have used a layer mask. I have been taught that you can add another gradient to the layer by doing this. It works however it just appears white. I have tried various different gradients that are available including 'Black,White'. Although its functioning correctly....
...it is apperaing white instead of black.
Does this make things easier to understand?

  • Black to white gradient?

I am following a tutorial and need to select a fill for a shape and choose the Black to White Gradient swatch from Gradient Panel
    1. I do not seem to have the black to white gradient. I only see the fade to black gradient swatch. Is this the same thing, if not how do I get the black to white gradient swatch?
    Thanks.

This is the problem the default is Black to White this is what you are missing. You may have accidentally selected one of the other preset gradients and the default is then lost and you have to recreate it or reset the preferences and then save it before making a new one or create a new document which will also reset it. But to do it with the document you now have you have to recreate it. Watch the videos

  • How do I apply a linear gradient to an S shape?

    Hi
I recently created an S shape with the pen tool that is quite large in my photoshop cs4.  I would like to know if there is a way for me to apply a linear gradient so that it follows the path of the S shape perfectly.
The effect should cause one of the sides of the letter S to actually fade into black (the gradient is a transparent to black gradient colors).
Is this even possible with my Photoshop cs4?

    Hi,
Thanks for the response. I have found a way to accomplish exactly what I want.
I use a stroke, set it to 'inner' style to the bottom most option, play with side and choose gradient
I played aorund with these settings on here and got it working perfectly.

  • Revolution Main Screen Gradient Mask

I'm authoring a DVD in iDVD 7.1.2 (latest version with iLife '11).  I want to use the Revolution Theme with an image in the overall screen behind the chapter buttons.  Unfortunately for me, the theme has a black gradient mask over the screen and the image that I inserted is extremely dark.  Is there some way to edit the details of the Revolution Main screen?
    Thanks,
    Dave

There's a menu title which is the rotating text.  Change it and the rotating text will change.

  • How to create a gradient field in CS5 that doesn't striate when printed?

Can someone explain how to create a large gradient field in CS5 that won't striate when printed? I created a poster, 18" x 24" in which the bottom third gradates from olive to black. When it prints there are thick paralell bands which are  undesirable. The tips I found online go back to 2009 which don't apply to CS5. The directions in the CS5 manual are confusing to me. Is there a simple way to do this?

    Is your monitor well calibrated?
Did you print it locally on your own printer before sending it out?
After you've exhausted everything else, you might consider creating a small test file with the offending gradient, and physically carry it to one of the printing locations, and speak to a technician there. Honestly, it sounds like a profile mismatch, but if this has happened at multiple Kinkos locations, then I agree, it would seem the problem is most likely in the file.
Have you looked at individual channels? (R,G,B)
One other idea: you say it's olive to black ... you could try an olive gradient from 100% opacity to 0% opacity, placed over a solid black layer, (or alteratively, a similar black gradient over solid olive) and see if that improves the output. Beware, some printers are really bad at 0%-5% values. If the gradient is going from 100% of one color to 0%, this might be contributing to the problem. Try going from 100% to 5% if this is the case.
One last thing: can you post a portion of the offending area of the image here?

  • Why is my color picker not showing up in the gradient panel?

When I try to change the colors to a gradient I am not able to change the selected color.
When I double click on the color slider I want to change, the pop up panel gives me grayed out CMYK sliders. And all of the fill and stroke icons go dark and display questions marks ????.
When I click on the swatch button no swatch colors appear in the panel.
Am I missing something obvious here? I haven't had this issue before today. I am running the latest version of CC on a windows 7 64 bit machine.  Please help! I need my gradients! I can't live with out them!

I drew my shape, then went to the GRADIENT panel and clicked in the default gradient box to apply the default white to black gradient.  Normally you can click on either color to change it using the ways I described in my original post but those are not available to me.  The only way I could add a color was to drag it from the SWATCHES panel into the gradient colors slider.
This means that I cannot make changes to colors directly in the gradient panel like before.  I have to make changes to the individual colors but clicking on the color in the gradient slider then going to the COLOR panel and adjusting the color there. Or by dragging in a whole new color from the COLOR or SWATCHES panels.  This is really killing my work flow.

  • Gradient (not smooth) has ripples on TV but looks good in Motion canvas?

Could someone help me fix these ripples in my gradient? I have a gradient color as the background (pink fades to black), it looks smooth on my computer but on my TV monitor it is ripply and choppy as it fades out to black.
I am working in NTSC DV.
    Thanks
    marco

When I say render out, I mean exporting your Motion Project as a QT movie.
I took a look at your project and rendered out a sample in Animation codec 32-bit. I didn't see any visible banding in the bkg peach to black gradient. The yellow circle in the right corner was walking a bit because the edge was harsh, and the yellow was really bright. Also the font is very thin for DV so it will not look that good.
The font could be thicker, but I was able to address the visual problems with the circle by dropping the Fill Opacity to 90% and to apply a slight feather (4). DV as a codec doesn't like thin lines or sharp edges.
Again, I didn't see any banding on the bkg gradient though. Even when I rendered out the sample in DV.

  • Why my gradient mask at home renders smooth, but is clipped at work?

I created a number of gradient masks applied to images with a basic 100 to 0 black gradient, on my Mac at home. They look smooth in Illustrator, and rendered smooth both as a PDF and exported to a PNG.
Gradient Mask from my Mac at home:
But when I open the same illustrator document on my Mac at work the gradation of the mask is clipping. So instead of a smooth transition there's now a hard line.
Gradient Mask on my Mac at work:
This is the same file, opened on different Macs. Both identical versions of Illustrator CS6, identical color settings, identical color profiles.
The main differences are my Mac at home is a 2009 MacPro running OS 10.9, and my Mac at work is a 2008 MacPro running OS 10.8.
I've created and recreated gradient masks over and over again, and I cannot get a smooth transparency gradient mask at all on my Mac at work.
This presented a problem, as the client had to have last minute revisions when I was at work, and could not produce a smooth image, I was forced to deliver the final graphic with clipped gradient masks.

So deleting preferences didn't fix it. I even rasterized the gradient to see if an image mask would work better, that didn't work. Then I toggled "invert mask." I was suprised to see that once I inverted the mask (which reversed the gradient), the transparency was smooth from 0 to 100.
So I've figured out a work around for the problem, but it's still not resolved.
    Invert gradient mask
    Rotate gradient mask 180°
Adjust gradient mask break points to accomidate reversal
    Here's the result:
Now if someone can explain to me why a gradient mask doesn't work in one direction, but it does when it's inverted.

  • Apply gradient to text, cs5 like Classroom in a Book

I need to create a title in a document, a single word heading at the top.  I'm using Win7 32 bit and AI cs5 and the book, Classroom in a Book.
I'm on page 310 where "Mike's Coffee" is the tutorial text.  I've converted my text to path outlines, then Grouped the characters.  From there, however, the script (or I) seem to get lost.  Step 4 says "This applies a white to black gradient".  Yes, it does.
However, I want to start with bright red, receding to nearly transparent and I can't follow the instruction from there -- getting colors into my panel.  No, I've not loaded that lesson and perhaps that's why my panel and swatch doesn't match the book's.
Am I going to have to load this lesson, start from scratch on it to simply apply a gradient to a single word?
    GM

You're right.  Let me start over.
I need apply a gradient to text using Win7 32 bit and AI cs5.  I want to start with a bright red at the top, receding to nearly transparent at the bottom.
I've converted my text to path outlines, then Grouped the characters.  From there, selected the group, clicked on the Gradient box on the right -- then I'm lost.

  • InD CS3 and Gradient Tool

Just did an upright b-card with a white to black gradient screen, bottom to top of b-card. I had some type overprinting the screen in the lower part (lighter) of the b-card. When printed, the type almost becomes illegible, nearly blending in with the gradient in back of it.
Any ideas? It looks great on-screen and the PDF looked great too -- that's what customer approved and now I can't print it. Any way I can do this and get the mud off my face?
    Help? SOS!

Got it and replied. For the lurkers, it really looks kind of dark on the
top part but I can't imagine a 25% background being too dark.
    How was it printed?

  • Gradient swatches

Im trying to make my gradient swatch a different color than black. Every time I add a gradient to my color block, instead of making it the color I want with a gradient it automatically makes the block black with a gradient, then when I try to go to my color swatch panel and change the color, it turns it back into a solid.
the purple block is my first block i lay and the black gradient block is what happens to my purple after i add gradient. what do i do?

  • Cs6, mac, gradients iconsistent colour using swatch library

    Hi all
    Wondering if you can help?
Using Mac 10.6.8 and Ilustrator CS6.
I'm drawing up some items [300] that are coloured in 1 of 10 gradients.
On the first two drawings I had the 10 swatches and then selected the 'Save swatch library as AI...'  command from the swatches file.
On the next drawings I loaded this swatch library and coloured up the rest of the drawings, using some of the 10 colours.
Now, when I look through the illustrations, there are some colour differences on various files. In the swatch palette there are multiple versions of my original swatch colours with numbers on the end... I did not create these ... i.e. 'Red Gradient 2', 'Red Gradient 3'
    Where did these come from?
When checking the gradients, they are indeed slightly different colours... HOW? they were all from the same swatch library?
The black gradient is also the same, it's not the same colour and there are 2 & 3 names derivatives.
All files are RGB colour mode, and have ADOBE RGB 1998 colour profile attached.
    Any advice appreciated.
    GS

    @Michael – I second that!
On with my example shown in #2:
There is a hidden feature in the Gradient Panel:
With a right-click in the "red area" I marked in the following screen shot, you can add a new gradient swatch to the swatches panel:
That will not work in other areas of that panel…
