Black Hinge Cover

I have a small crack on the black hinge cover.  I have never dropped it or bashed it against anything (that I know of).  The crack doesnt cause me any problems but I would like this fixed if possible.  My MBP is less than 1 year old so do you think this will be fixed free of charge by Apple?

yes, as long it is ruled a manufacturing defect and not something that was caused by the user being negligent.

  • The left side of the hinge cover on my Macbook Pro, is this something I should be concerned about?

The black plastic hinge cover on my Macbook Pro has a loose left side, it feels like it's not against the hinges like the other side is. When I push down on the cover it feels like there's empty space between the cover and what I assume to be the hinges. I was wondering if this is something I can repair myself or if I need to take it to Apple? I have coverage for hardware issues until April 2012.

If its covered just take it in.  If you tinker with it and something else happens to it you void the warranty.  My philosophy is, if there is a warranty, use it.m that's why they were created.  To protect the buyer in cases like yours

  • How much does it cost to replace a cracked hinge cover?

The black plastic hinge cover on my Macbook Pro 13" Early 2011 is cracked. How much does it cost to get it replaced at and Apple Store? Is it cheaper if I provide the new hinge cover? (they're on Amazon). Don't want to do it myself as you need to disconnect the screen, HDD, webcam, etc...

Apple will use their own parts, not parts you provide.

  • Why is the black hinge wearing and cracking away?

The black hinge on my Macbook Pro seems to be cracking and chipping away. It looks like it's just a plastic/paint on the top, but it keeps chipping off, more and more. I have not dropped it. When it is not in use, it is always in a soft case. What should I do? Should I be worried? Any ideas on how this started?

I'm sure their is if you are willing to pay for it.  Bring it to your nearest Apple store or AASP for an evaluation/estimate.

  • 2010 MBP black hinge backs popping noise

While I was cleaning the bottom of my screen today, I noticed some popping. After pressing around for a while, I found out that if you press or rub against the black hinge below the screen it makes a clicking/popping noise that I've never noticed before. It doesn't happen when I open or close the lid (as far as I know), but it is a little annoying while I clean it. I tryed to replicate the same noise on a MBA with no success, leaving me to think that this is not a normal noise. Anyone have any suggestions?

    No worries.
My previous MBP did this after a few months. I noticed it when I was cleaning the screen, too.  My current 2011 MBP doesn't have it yet but I anticipate with age it will.  Hope you're enjoying your Mac.

  • Aftermarket Hinge Cover for A1237

Does anybody know where in Canada I can buy an after market Hinge Cover, the part between the screen and the keyboard?  Apple recalled and fixed the problem but mine cracked and recall has expired.  A genuine apple part includes a bunch of stuff I don't need, and cost $520.  I saw it on ebay for $20, but it from China, and I don't want to wait a month for it to be shipped.

The plastic piece that is what I call the hinge cover broke. I have ordered a new one and it just came, but I'm having issues putting it back on and do not want to damage my computer. Is there a visual guide somewhere that can help me put this piece back on? I understand that this is a common problem with these PC's and it is always the left hinge. Please help!!
    Many thanks!
    Hi
    Have you done this before?
The instructions for hinge cover replacement:
Before you begin: Remove the battery, wireless LAN minicard, hard disk drive, optical disk drive, keyboard, top cover, USB board, DC power connector cable, display panel, and display bezel.
Remove the two 4 mm P1 Phillips-head screws that secure the hinge covers to the display enclosure.
Lift and remove the hinge covers.
    Hinge covers replacement
Place the hinge covers on the display panel.
Replace the two 4 mm P1 Phillips-head screws that secure the hinge covers to the display enclosure.
Except Motherboard you're taking everything out it seems,
If you're in warranty, I suggest you to contact HP, otherwise give it to some good local tech guys to do the job.

  • Hi, my hinge cover is loose, do I need to do anything about this?

Hi, my hinge cover is loose, do I need to do anything about this?

I'd recommend taking it in. I had the same thing happen to mine when I had the screen replaced, and it wasn't that noticeable at first but it kept getting worse the more I used and travelled with my computer.
So I'd take it in before it got too much worse--I would guess that it might be covered even without warranty, or that it'd be a cheap repair if not. Good luck!

  • 2010 MBP creaky/loose hinge cover

I've noticed that the black plastic part of the hinge on my MBP creaks and is slightly loose. It sometimes creaks when the laptop is just sat on the desk and alawys creaks when I pick up the laptop. The plastic cover feels noticably loose. I took it to the apple store and the man assured me that this was normal and every MBP hinge is slightly different. I regularly use a few other identical 13" MBPs and none of them have this issue, and neither do any of the MBPs I've ever tried in store.
    Anybody else have this issue?
    Thanks!
    Joe

There is nothing we users can do about your issue. Take the computer back to the repair shop and talk with the manager.

  • Black album cover image?

So I just received my Ipod Nano, synching songs works well and all, but when I play a song, the little square for album cover are black for every song.
Album cover shows up in every program I listen to my mp3 in except on my nano ?!

Plug in the iPod, uncheck the box to show artwork on the iPod then sync the iPod (all artwork will be removed from the iPod).
When it is done, reselect that check box and sync the iPod again (all artwork added to iPod).
This often times clears up display issue with artwork on the iPod.
    Cheers,
    Patrick

  • Macbook pro the plastic hinge cover making a creaking noise.

I just resently brought the macbook pro about a week ago and now it is making a creaking noise
coming from the hinge whenever I close the lid. Should bring it back for a repair or is it not big of a deal.

I've since figured out that it has to do with the back cover... For those of you qith squeaky hinges- have you removed the back cover at some point?  I found my cover was not on perfectly-straight for the screws... Line the holes up very carefully... In any case, if you have squaking, remove the three long screws from the back cover, and like magic, where'd the creaking go!?

  • Broken hinge cover HP Pavilion dm4

    Hi,
So I just havethe problem that hundreds of other people had.About a year ago, I found my casing coming apart as I opened my dm4.  This has never happened before.  I didn't do any damage to it.
And all of sudden, it started becoming worse and now it's almost broken.
And now I would like ask people who experienced this issue before, what to do exactly in order to fix this issue? How much would it cost(knowing that my warranty is up)? What pieces do I need to but and where to find them?
I really find that it's a big shame on HP to create a computer with such a manufacturing defect, a lot of people  seem to have this problem with the same model. Some photos:

Ok, so I received an email asking for my feedback
"Did this reply resolve your post or question? If yes, then share the good news! Let others know this reply was helpful by accepting this solution.
You can also show your appreciation by giving kudos."
So in order to share "the good news" I came to say that I'm never buying and Hp product again.
I first had enldless issues with my hp compaq 6715s( I consider it as the worst computer on earth), followed by some issues with my  DV6. Then I decided to give HP another chance and buy their DM4 but they didn't deserve this second chance.
First of all my issue appears to be a design flaw.
Let's be logical,  does it seem normal to have hunders of customer having the same issue?
    it's obvioulsy a manufacturing defect,
like when you (as HP) see such a thread
    http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Hardware/HP-Dm4-1065dx-left-hinge-broken/td-p/764061/page/13
Don't you think it's time to take actions? c'mon why on the earth do we have to pay for Hp's mistakes?
so regarding my issue, HP's support team sent my contacts  to Hp turkey(as  I'm lving in Turkey for the moment but I bought my laptop form US).So they contacted me, they wanted me to send my computer, they took it and kept for ~1week then they email me an invoice with the cost and then I have to tell them if I accept the price(they they start repairing it( or not.
Total: ~280$ + I paid ~30$ (ddiagnosis fee) = 310$ and my bought my computer for 800$ that's almost 40% of the price! It should be Joke! I laughed so hard when I received this e-mail.
Also, they put parts that I don't even need. My back cover is better than any brand new cover they may bring and I LED display is working. also what the heck is this, they sell Hinge covers separetly(2 adet)!?  It's normally sold as a "pair" of 2 hinge covers together.
And the funny thing is  there's no repair fees (ISCILIK 0), it's hilarious. While the prices are so expensive.
On top of that, I'm not even supposed to pay for HP not being able to correclly design a laptop.
P.S: this is my 3rd HP to end up with such dumb things in a row, all the HPs I have gave me headache . I will probably not fix my computer this time I will ask them to send it back without fixing it!

  • Discoloration (spots) on black macbook cover

I just opened up my new black MacBook. I noticed about 5 discolored small spots (2mm or so) on the top. They look to be a darker gray color instead of black. Three of them form a triangle. The other two are off by themselves. I would post a picture but they are very difficult to photograph. I will likely exchange it tomorrow and see if the new one has any spots.
    Anybody else see this yet?

I haven't seen any post about a discolorated cover.
But definitely you can bring that to apple store and show them side by side with their display model.

  • Plastic Hinge "Cover" Splitting Apart

The black plastic piece (thats visible when closed) of my MBP is splitting apart. I haven't dropped my macbook, or damaged it in any other way.
Is this covered by warranty? I didn't purchase applecare, but instead purchased the Best Buy black protection that covers accidental damage and such. They'll repair it, but it'll be out for 2-4 weeks. I use my MBP for work, so that's not a possibility.

    Hi
Sorry to hear you are having problems, quite alarming to find those cracks appearing! I just had to have a look at mine after seeing your picture but I am OK at the moment.
You have from new a years warranty which will cover such problems. Sadly it will mean that it will have to go back to Apple to be fixed unless you can get them to agree to an exchange. Your best bet is to go to your nearest Apple Store and have a word. It might be worth booking an appointment then you won't have to hang around to see someone.
Here is a link to the UK Genius Bar appointments, there are ones for each country:

All the best and hope it is sorted for you.
