Black horizontal bands across top & bottom of photos using a full frame camera

I'm using a full frame camera with a 17-35mm lens.  When I import my photos to iPhoto they appear with a black horizontal band across the top and bottom of the photos.  Is this normal?

What camera are you using?
Where are you seeing these black bands? in the iPhoto library event view or somewhere else?

  • I have a horizontal line across the bottom of my screen how do I remove it?

Re: Macbook Air mid 2011, I have a horizontal line across the bottom of my screen, it appeared when I was updating my iPhone, How can I remove this line from my display?

It may be a GPU or display issue. In both cases, make a backup of your Mac and take it to an Apple Store or reseller to get it repaired.
To check whether it is a GPU or display issue, try taking a screenshot by pressing Command, Shift and 3 keys. The screenshot will appear in the Desktop, so open it and check if the line appears in the screenshot too. If so, it is a GPU issue; if not, it is a display issue.

  • Horizontal band across screen

My iPod Nano has developed a horizontal band (about 3/4") across the bottom of the screen that blocks out the settings text. Any ideas on how to overcome this?

    The Five Rs.
Other than it it needs service (as it's still under warranty).

  • Dark area extending in a band across top of screen

This may be a variant on this problem: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1191580&tstart=0.
I have a irregular dark band across the top of July 2005 20" iMac display. It looks like thick dust - behind the display. I suspect it's some kind of LCD delamination.
I have a picture of it on a blog post, but Apple doesn't allow personal URLs in posts. I've seen images in forum posts, but I don't know how to do that!
Anyone know the cause and outlook? I'm betting I will have to live with it until it gets worse -- any repair is likely to be pretty darned expensive (no AppleCare). I'm disappointed to have the display dying after about 2.5 years of life -- I expected more.

I've gotten a comment on my blog from someone with a similar problem. I suspect it's delamination of the LCD panel probably related to the well known heat issues of the G5 iMac line (Hot hot chip, small space).
I haven't contacted Apple because I don't have Apple Care on the machine and it's out of warranty. (I get an extra year through my AmEx card, so I had two years of coverage. The extra year from the card is why I don't buy Apple Care.)
I would call them if the problem were more common, since then there would be a (small) chance of some kind of extended warranty problem, but I haven't really seen that many complaints. It's probably a bit unlucky to get it.
If it doesn't get worse I'll just ignore it, but if it does worsen I'll probably buy a second display (if the iMac supported extended desktop I'd already have the second display) and making it a children's machine.

  • White horizontal lines across the bottom of Macbook display

Shortly after I turned on my Macbook last night, the bottom of the screen started to flicker and solid white lines appeared across the bottom of my screen. They go up roughly a couple inches from the bottom, and fade towards the right of the display.
When I restart my computer, They reappear as macosx is loading.
When I mouse over these white lines, the cursor is unaffected, yet they dont appear when I screenshot.
I've gone back through all the discussions but couldnt find any solutions =S
    Ideas?

I think you may find hope with this article:

The effect is rare but not unknown. Unless it's a hardware issue, you might be able to use this fix.

  • Horizontal band drifts top to bottom

I have a approximately 1 inch high, light band that extends horizontally the entire width of my screen.  The bad slowly drops from the top of the screen to the bottom in about 15 seconds.  Then another one appears and does the same thing indefinately.  This is not visible when standard DVD is played – only when signal is coming from Verizon.  I have already replaced set top box with no success.

Well PJL, you did ask. LOL
I believe PJL is asking what cables you are using to connect your STB and DVD player to your TV (composite, S-Video, component, HDMI).
While he may have many more ideas than I do, I would also check your Video Settings to see if one of them can clear things up for you.
Menu > Settings > Video Settings
You'll want to make sure that these match the capabilities of your television settings.
It could very well be a filtering or shielding issue.

  • Horizontal band across bottom of screen 2 inches

    Hey guys,
I was trying to fix my bros old powerbook g4 so that i could use it. Everything works, except the bottom two inches of the display is not working. Its usually grayish, but if i shake the screen or hit it, it will change and look like what its supposed to. Even if i shake it, the gray just goes away, if i try moving my mouse down there it disappears, and if i open an application, the bottom part doesnt get updated, it just stays the way it was unless i hit it again. For a few days i got it to work at a certain angle, but now its back to its normal self. Is it a loose connection, or a software problem, or what?
    Please give me suggestions.
    Thanks

  • Black Horizontal Line in Top Left Corner.

My mac started showing this line at the top left corner of the screen. I use 2 monitors and this was on my MacBook display. If anyone has any idea how to fix it or can tell me what causes it for future reference that would be great.
    Here is a SCREENCAP.

Same here. Can't figure this one out. Perhaps its a graphic glitch? Does someone at Apple have an idea??

  • Older photos use old menu in camera raw

I just installed cs6 and love the basic menu in camera raw! I opened some older photos from just days ago and the old camera raw menu comes up. Is there a way to access this new menu with older photos?
    Thanks,
    Beth

Camera raw 7 (CS6) will display a small white square with an exclamation point when it opens a raw file that processed with an older camera raw process version.  Click on this square to have camera raw use the new process version (PV2012) and the new menu sliders will be there.
You may want to retain the earlier settings and rendering by creating a snapshot before you convert to pv2012:  Click the New Snapshot button at the bottom of the Snapshots Tab, type a snapshot name name in the New Snapshot dialog box and click OK.  Create a second snapshot after converting to pv2012.  You can go back and forth between the two to assess the changes from the newer process version.

  • Blank white band across bottom of screen

Sometimes when I turn on my new MacBook there is a thick (more than 1" wide) blank, white band across the bottom of the screen, and the rest of the screen display is squeezed (elongated) into the remaining space. If I then put the MacBook to sleep and wake it up, the screen returns to normal.
Any idea what is going on? And what I should do?
It occurs to me that my MacBook might be "confused" because I sometimes use it with an external monitor and sometimes I don't..... Coudl that be the explanation?
    thanks!
    Peter

I am still having this problem. It especially occurs when I am not connected to my external monitor and running off the battery. Has nobody else had this problem? Does anybody know what the problem is?
    Thanks.

  • Black horizontal line

Last week I bought a 2013 macbook air and already in the last few days I've had a couple of occasions where I saw a a few black horizontal lines across the screen.  Last time it happend for a couple of seconds when the laptop was coming back up from sleep.  Is this normal? Or should I take it back to get it swapped?

You can return a new Mac within 14 days of purchase.
A new Mac is in warranty for 1 year from the date of purchase.
A new Mac comes with 90 days of free tech support from AppleCare.

It is better to return and get a new one without problems.

  • HT201177 I have a horizontal line in the bottom 1/3 of my screen display that I can't get rid of

I can't seem to get rid of this black horizontal line in the bottom 1/3 of my display its there in all applications and there appears to be a shadow bar behind it? any help would be appreciated

What model iMac? This forum covers three different variants made before 2006. They have different display technologies.
Doing "About this Mac" from your Apple menu and posting the info found there for your processor type is a good start. If that shows you have an Intel processor, those iMacs are different enough to have a separate forum here:

What kind of machine?  Could try smc and pram reset.  But if it's the display or video card failing it won't do any good.  If it's a mac pro blow out the dust and reseat the video card.
