Black jpegs - can they be made to come alive again?

I have a lot of black & white jpeg photos that must have been exported from photoshop in grayscale format as they only show up in iphoto 08 as black thumbnails and blotched when full size.
Is there some way I can add whatever is necessary to make them work in iphoto 08? Would they show properly in Aperture 2.0?

There's a way you can convert those files to sRGB in the iPhoto library somewhat automatically.
1 - download and run the demo version of iView MediaProo to catalog the library. See the first part of Tutorial #1 .
2 - in the Catalog Fields pane open the Color Profile area and click on the button next to the Dot Gain 20% (that's the grayscale) line. This will select all of the photos in the library that are grayscale, both originals and thumbnails.
3 - do a Command+A to select all photos and go to the Action->Manage Color Profiles... menu.
4 - in the next window select Remove embedded profile and click OK.
5 - with the files still selected go to the Action->Convert Image Files menu option.,
6 - in the next window select the following properties:
Size: use image size
Settings: Color and Quality: best
Resolution: use image resolution.
Files: replace original files.
7 - click Convert.
When that's done the original file will display OK but the thumbnail will not. You'll have to launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys depressed and follow the instructions to rebuild the library. Select the first three options to rebuild the thumbnails and get all of your photos displaying as they should.
I just ran that on a test library and it did convert the original and thumbnail files OK.

800k Floppies can they be made?

Well I have a few old macs all working apart from my SE, I took it into my local mac store and they recommended getting some system 6.0.8 disks for it, but they had to be 800k floppy's.
They also mentioned that with a non X mac you are able to make 800k floppy's out of normal ones? Is this true and if so how do I do it?

I hope that you do not mind the intervention.
A 2DD (DSDD) diskette is normally needed for the 800K Mac format. If it is absolutely impossible to locate one, you could try a plain HD diskette with the extra square hole (the one without a slider) covered by a piece of tape. Please note that the magnetic materials are different though, so do expect errors.
System 6.0.x can be found here.
In order to create correctly sector-copied disks from 800K disk images, use Disk Copy 4.2 (the Make A Copy button) or 6.3.3 (the Make a Floppy command under the Utilities menu) on a Macintosh computer with a built-in floppy drive. Neither a USB nor a PC floppy drive will work with the special 800K format (requires variable speed).

I believe, after three years of ordering calendars, that you have to work through iPhoto. Happily, iPhoto can now browse the Aperture library.

If you mean the items on the Dock, just click and drag up/down on the vertical dashed line that separates program icons from those for Documents, Applications, Downloads, and Trash.

go to 'Edit' in the menu bar. Then choose 'Preferences'.
you'll see a pop-up and there's a tab called 'Devices' there. If you click that, you will be able to check a box that says 'prevent automatic syncing for iPods, iPads and iPhones' or something like that.

NB: if you don't even see the menu bar that has options like 'File, Edit, View, etc', first click the black/white square button on the top left of your screen, and then click 'show menu bar'. It should pop right up.

I'm searching for an answer to almost the same exact problem, using almost the same exact hardware and software. Has an answer been found?
The files that I'm trying to burn come from eMusic, and they are formatted mp3. Recently, (after the iTunes update to 9.2.3?,) they would not drag and drop from iTunes into Toast. From several different discussions I've tried working around this by dragging to the desktop first then dragging and dropping to Toast, going to Toast from a programmer's homemade help window, " iToons," and today, after talking with Apple support, going directly to Toast from my eMusic folder. Alas, all recordings do not perform like they use to. Sometimes they play and sometimes not. There is one I managed, that is listenable, but sometimes I have to put it in my car stereo over and over again as it gets ejected with an error code, sometimes, finally it takes it... Some of the recordings on other disks I've burned are not clean - they have white-noise sounds creeping in... I use to have none of these problems. One time as I was listening to a CD that managed to play, and it just stopped playing... Is there an answer out there to get back to how it use to be? Thanks for you help.

You're not alone. I am having similar problems with my Ipod 5th gen 30gb.
When I connect it to my laptop (Vista - basic) it is not recognised by itunes. Itunes simply locks up.
So far I have tried the following to no avail:
Checked my pc's device manager - it recognises the device and says it is functioning properly.
Checked the drivers to make sure they are upt to date.
Uninstalled & reinstalled a previous version of itunes (as it worked fine before the latest release).
Reinstalled the latest itunes.
Reset the ipod.
Put the ipod into disk mode and reconnected to itunes.
Have tried to use the windows tool to scan and fix any bad sectors but it fails to complete a scan without locking that up as well.
Placed into disk mode when fully charged and then allowed the battery to drain completely. Then reconnected ipod (in disk mode)and it still is not recognised and locks up itunes.
At this point I dont really want to part with another $300 odd dollars for a new one.

Take it to your local Apple Store or AASP, it's covered by a 1 year hardware warranty. If you have AppleCare then give them a call but I'm pretty sure they will advise the same. If you have not purchased AppleCare yet please do, this will extend the warranty to 3 years however it MUST be purchased within the first year of ownership. Let it go 366 days and you are out of luck. AppleCare will also include telephone support too.

If you are now in the US then you can only use the US store, so you should update the address on your account
Changing country : Change the country of your iTunes Store, App Store, iBooks Store, and Mac App Store account.
Had you copied the songs over to your computer's iTunes library, do they show in the Music section on it ? You can copy purchases that you still have on your iPad over to your computer's iTunes library via the File > Devices > Transfer Purchases menu option

You'll get any photo stream photos from the last 30 days.

Where do you state that you need to email the files to someone else?
Where do you state that you need to edit them?
This was my response ....
You can't edit any of these files without a compatible iPad app like Documents to Go (Excel, Word) or Pages (Word files).
You can open and view the files as mail attachments but you will not be able to edit them. Explain exactly what you are doing and maybe you can get meaningful instructions.
Basically I said the same thing as Julian and I thought that maybe if you explained EXACTLY what you were trying to do, it would be helpful.

How are you trying to transfer it and what are your setting on iTunes. I'm not on a computer that has iTunes at the moment so I'm going from memory and similar issue. If iTunes is set to sync music then I don't think you can select and drag, if set to manual manage music then you can. Also make sure you are dragging to music on the iPhone.

i've had black iphones in the past, and the same thing always gets messed up, the network, i will not have service what-so ever, and when my mother's iphone will be right next to me and she will have full service. Also the lock screen button/power button broke on both of my black iphones as well. i was just wondering if they would consider. Does apple have an email i could contact?
