i want to update my black macbook to loin my need more memory as it only has 1 gb at present id like to know how much this will cost me roughly as i want to use itunes but putting it on snow leopard my mac book came to a halt pretty much so for now im back on tiger at least its quicker but want to update to loin any help tips and ideas would be most greatful as im dont really know anything about

To see which model you have go to the Apple in the upper left corner and select About This Mac, then click on More Info. When System Profiler comes up check the Model Identifier.
The model 2,1 (Late 2006 & Mid 2007) can use 3gb of 667mhz PC2-5300 RAM
The model 3,1 (Late 2007) can use 6gb of 667mhz PC2-5300 RAM
You can put two 2gb RAM sticks in your model 2,1 but it can only use 3,3gb. This is a hardware limitation and cannot be changed.

Two of Three internal speakers arn't being used in Black Macbook (2006)?

Hi,
I probably tinker with my Macbook too much, however I noticed today that sound is only coming through the one internal "woofer" speaker, or the speaker that faces up at the F8 key. When using the internal speakers, not using an external output in other words, the two stereo speakers that face back toward the lcd screen on the left and the right sides of the case do not emit sound at all. I've checked the connections of each, I've played with settings in the System Preferences, and I've tried several different settings in iTunes. I cannot get the Macbook to use those speakers.
Is there some software glitch in the Kernal or Firmware that is preventing these from being used? Or could it be a hardware or sound card issue? I have no idea. It isn't something critical or anything, the single speaker in the middle works fine, however, I imagine the Macbook's internal audio quality and volume would be much improved if it were using all of the speakers installed.
Any ideas or thoughts?

Hangs and problems with 10.7.4 on black MacBook 2,1 (2007)

Installed 10.7.4 through software update on my black MacBook 2,1 (2007) w/ 3Gigs ram installed and over 133Gigs free of a 500Gig hd and used it frequently for several weeks. During this time my MacBook experienced very long app launches and in almost every case beach ball hangs with all apps. The hangs could last minutes in some cases and in other cases the applications would quit. I am a long time mac user and have never experienced anything like this before. System Monitor would show very high cpu use and fan would wind at full speed with just a single app like Safari opening. I downloaded the combo updater of 10.7.4 and installed it to see if it would help without luck. I tried all the usual fixes..PRAM, repair permissions, repair HD...etc. I gave up last night I restarted command-r and installed a time machine backup of 10.7.3 from 5/9/12. I am happy to say my MacBook with 10.7.3 is back in place, behaving properly and is as snappy as I would expect from a 5 year old computer. I submitted feedback to Apple on this issue but I wondering if anyone else is experiencing these issues.

Black MacBook 2006-2007 Fan Noise

Hello guys, name is Neal.
I have a Black MacBook, 4GB Ram(I upgraded in August of 2012), 250GB HDD, 2.16 Core 2 Duo.
Anythime I watch a video on YouTube, or download something, my fan jumps from 2200 RPM to 6200. It maxs out. The temperature goes to around 80-90 degrees Celcius. Its really annoying and sometimes shuts down. So recently, I sent my Macbook into Apple,and they recased the bottom portion of the MacBook casing and the fan and heatsink. But it still makes so much noise and makes my computer lag and run very slowly at the speed of 6200. Sometimes, the bottom of the Mac gets so hot, I can't even touch it. I almost got burned. They even gave me a new battery, but that didn't solve it.
Any ideas?
I thought it could be flash, but how can I solve that. Other than this, the computer runs great, like if I'm typing a paper its ok. But if I'm editing a movie or surfing the web and playing music from iTunes, the computer fan and tempertaure flip out. I even have Smc Fan control and leave it at a setting of 2500 RPM, istatpro, you name it. This is one fo the main reason I upgraded the Ram , but no use.

Black MacBook hard drive and RAM upgrade

I am looking to upgrade my black MacBook- 2.2 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo.
I would like to increase the RAM - (currently have 1 GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM) and would like to put in a new hard drive -( currently have 150 GB) I am wondering what hardware to get.
I think I would like to increase the RAM to 4GB and the HD to 500 GB. anyone have strong opinions on increased memory and/or hard drive? There seems to be enough info out there on the actual upgrade process, but am not sure what to actually buy for this upgrade.

Macbook Pro late 2008 Memory upgrade Issue

I have a late 2008 15" Macbook Pro 2.4 Ghz with 2 GB 1066 MHz DDR3 installed, I just brought a pair of corsair (2*4GB) DDR3 (CMSO4GX3M2A1333C9) memory upgrade and installed it in my macbook pro. I'm running OS-X Lion 10.7.1 before the upgrade now in About This Mac menu show that I have 8 GB 1333 MHz DDR3 and everything seem to be ok only when I shutdown and power up again the boot time seem to take longer than it is with previous 2GB memory module installed, it took almost 2 minutes from the power button pushed untill my macbook display the login screen. Question: Is the Ram upgrade is OK or I need to return the Ram and get the 1066 Mhz to replace my 2 Gb Ram. How can my mac report that I have 8GB 1333 MHz DDR3 Ram while the system only at 1066 Mhz bus

RAM will clock back to match the system bus as long as it's otherwise compatible. Reporting utilities tend to read the RAMs design speed.
It it works, ignore it.

that's normal. The OS does a "power-in self test" or "POST" at startup that includes RAM checking. The more RAM installed, the longer the test takes. You quadrupled you RAM, so the increase in start time does not surprise me.

Macbook Pro (early 2011) memory upgrade options

What are my memory upgrade options with a Macbook Pro (early 2011, 2.2 GHx Intel Core i7), currently with 4 GB of memory (2 GB X 2) of 1333 MHz DDR3 (PC3-10600S)? My manual says I'm limited to 4 GB x 2 = 8 GB of memory. Does that mean that the 8 GB X 2 = 16 GB option that's available will not work in my Macbook Pro?

back in the 90s I had the very first PowerMac, the 6100 with System 7.x on it. Until Mac OS 8 all was great but when 8.5/8.6 came out I needed to put a Sonnet Crescendo G3 card in it which costed unreal money value.. Anyway that beast made the switch from one PPC cpu to the amazing G3 and those cpu upgrades were quite common on Mac Users. That was until Apple introduced the OS next Generation, our current OS X..
When talk was beginning tin 1999/2000 that Apple has some new OS (X) and that it needs a G3 I was lucky. But how frustrated when I read that it wont run on manually upgraded machines.. so I could not jump in to all things new .
So that is nothing new to long time Apple Users. Some machines do not support the latest OS,simple it was always so.
For Instance Tiger could run on any G3 with USB ports, but Apple decided to make Firewire Ports a neccessary thing . So the installer blocks on say Powerbooks Lombard . They are limited to Panther.
G4 Users with slow cpus can't run Leopard, G5 Users can't run anything after Leo at all..
Concerning Lion I dare to say the following : It is 64bit native and therefore likely does not contain a 32bit legacy kernel ( like it is in SL which has both kernels included and switches them varying on the cpu and ram combination it finds). It likely is also optimized for Multiple CPU cores.
those CPUs that Apple lists as required are all pure 64bit multicores with the latest Extensions and cpu technologies, So Lion must have to do a great deal with 64bit computing.More so then Snow already.
You can test on SnowLeo if your cpu supports 64bit OS if you press 6 +4 keys on boot. In System Profiler under Software you can see if SL is using the 64 kernel.

Problem with my MacBook 7,1 after Memory Upgrade

Hello, I have a MacBook (7,1 late 2010 model with the Intel process) and I just tried upgrading the original 2 GB ram (2 - 1 GB chips) with 2 - 2 GB chips (Total of 4 GB of Ram). It boots up fine, allows me to log in then when I went to the Apple Icon to get the system specs, the mouse icon starts to spin. It did this for 5 mins. before I had to do a hard restart. I took them out and place them back in three time, each time it boots, allows me to log in but then if I click on an app (FireFox, e-mail, etc.) the mouse icon just spins and spins.
I then put the original memory chips back in and the computer is working fine. I assume that with the computer booting up, that the ram chips are not bad. I'm running OS Lion. Any help would be great, thanks.
Got the ram from OWC, they both are Apple/Micron PC850 DDR# 1066MHz SO-DIMM.

it could be possible that one of your new RAM module could be defective.
have you tried to boot with one of the 2GB and one of your 1GB installed? Try that with each of the 2GB then if the problem you're having occurs when you have one of the 2GB installed then you know you have a defective module.

Macbook Pro (late 2008) memory upgrade problem

I have an Macbook Pro (late 2008) 15'' 2.53GHz, 4GB DDR3, GeForce 9400m/9600M GT
4GB ram are by default. I tried to upgrade ram to 8GB, but my MBP doesn't recognize more than 4GB.
At Apple website I found information that maximum supported RAM memory is 4GB (which means that I cannot upgrade my MBP with 8GB of RAM), what isn't ok because it is a Pro machine. Are there some chipset drivers upgrade or BIOS firmware upgrade to let notebook to be able to has 8GB?

Yes, and that same information appeared in the specifications for your machine when you decided to buy it, and also in the owner's manual that came with it. So it's not a surprise — or at least it shouldn't be.
In spite of that information, and without support from Apple, you can put 6GB of RAM into it in the form of one 2GB and one 4GB module.

I am migrating from my old black MacBook to a new MacBook pro over wifi but why does it take SO Long...? I have about 400 gig to transfer and it says 80 hours! Can this be right? Is there a faster way? Is there a way to cancel the migration?

Now revised down to 85 hours. Why is this so so so long?? Is there a faster way? What happens if I cancel now. Is there a way to cancel? As there is no cancel button....

The 2006 MacBook has firewire. Use a cable like this. Boot the '06 with the T key held down until you see the Firewire icon. Connect the 400 port on the '06 to the 800 port on the i7. Run Migration Assistant. 400 GB will still take a long time, but it will be closer to 8 hours I think.

Black screen after upgrading ram (macbook pro late 2007)

Dear Community,
I am willing to donate 100 USD to anyone who is willing/able to provide concrete resolution to this problem.
I am a professional freelance videoeditor and my job is currently stucked due to inability to boot my macbook pro again.
After upgrading the RAM of my MBP (late 2007 model, 17'' display, Intel 2.4GHz Dual Core processor), the screen went black and the system did not boot any more.
I tried to replace the orginal 2 x 1GB DDR2 533 CL=5 SODIMM (single rank) with 2 X 2GB DDR2 800 CL=6 SODIMM (dual ranks).
After the memory upgrade, the system was restarted, I heard a short beep, but the macbook showed a black screen instead of booting properly. The mainboard was powered, the fan was moving. I saw a green led turned on on the center of one side of the macbook.
I tried to mount the previuos 2 x 1GB DRAM SODIMMs, but nothing happened. The system keeps not booting even with the original memory.
I tried already several procedures suggested by the user manual, related to SMC Intel controller reset (with battery and without battery and charger), but those were not effective in restoring the normal operation of the macbook. The system keeps not booting with exactly similar issues (black screen, fan on, short beep after power-on, green LED on).
I also tried to swap the memory DIMMs into the memory sockets. I tried to use a different combination with 1 NEW 2GB and 1 OLD 1GB DIMM. But the problem is still there with similar sympthoms.
DOES ANYONE HAVE ANY CLUE OF HOW TO SOLVE THIS?

My best guess is that you have fried the RAM with static electricity charged up in your body. According to OGELTHORPE a beep on startup is because of no RAM, if when installing you did not do it correctly, you could have fried the RAM, which then your mac will not recognize it. The same with the old RAM, if you tried to re-install it and didn't pull up your sleeve and rest your arm on the inside of the chassis, then it is fried, or if you didn't wear an ESD band and connect it to the the chassis, then it is fried.
Seen as though you can't startup your mac, I can't say to do an AHT, buy some new ram, and start with the lowest one you can, so its cheap for ya use a different company incase is that;) Crucial.com is really good, I got an 8gb upgrade from 2gb. Let me tell you, it's great!
