Black macbook gets to spinning gear and shuts off after almost a minute

Hello All,
this is my first post as it is the first time i haven't found specific answers elsewhere.
My Macbook will go to the grey screen with logo and gear for 30 seconds and i have tried the following.
I have tried to reset the ram with the command function i forget the keys like p r or something, and i finally got the bong noise.
this still didnt help so i tried to get into safe after this noise with the left shift key, and once i let go at the gear, it still shut down after around half a minute 45 seconds.
I then booted into verbose to see what was really causing this shut down after this.
this was the last couple of lines it froze up on before shutting down.
[HCIController][configurePM] power parent ready after 1 tries
[AppleIntelCPUPowerManagement: initialization complete
disk0s2: I/0 error.
disk0s2: I/0 error.
syncing disks... killing all processes
continuing
done
CPU halted
it usually freezes on the line disk0s2:I/0 error for about a mintue, and once the last run from the second I/0 error to the CPU halted rolls onscreen it is around 3 seconds before it shuts down.
For the last i dont know 3 weeks i have gotten every once in a while these messages saying my startup disk was full, even though i had 37 gigs left on the hard drive.
the reason i got here was because i was trying to copy some files from my compact flash recorder to my computer for listening and maybe 10 of the 15 copied and said the rest could not be transferred because of the disk being full. At this point i decided to restart, and it would not come back to desktop. ANY HELP anyone?
thank you so much

Hi,
I'm not really an expert at anything like this, but from the looks of things, it can read the hard disk up until a certain point and then gets an input/output error, can't read the hard disks and just shuts down. If you have a Boot Camp partition, try booting that, it helped me recover some stuff. Or if you have a firewire cable and a computer with a firewire port, connect the two together and hold T when booting up your Mac. If the other computer is a PC w/ Windows, you may have to install HFS drivers like MacDrive (there is a trial, google it), and see if you can copy off any of your files. You could also try an archive and install by booting up from the Mac OS CD that either came with your computer, or if you bought an upgrade disc. If that fails, then your disk is probably dead. If your Mac is still under warranty, try taking it to an Apple Store / authorised service centre etc, some place they will fix it. However, if your Mac is booting up to a certain point, it could be dead software not hardware.

When I try to open a file with TextEdit, I get the spinning beachball and the file takes almost a minute to open. When I just start TextEdit everything is fine. Also when I log on with another account TextEdit works like a charm, even when opening an existing file.
What I have done so far:
    checked permissions in Disk Utility
    validated all fonts
    deleted all canon printer drivers
    deleted all preferences
Nothing has helped. Mail shows the same behavior as TextEdit. What else can I do? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

My MacBook Pro starts and shuts off after loading for sometime

Try starting in Safe mode by holding down the Shift key while booting. Safe mode takes a while to load the OS. After that, restart the computer normally.
If that does not work, start up in Recovery by holding down the Command and R keys. In the window that opens, choose Disk Utility at the bottom and verify and repair your disk. Repair permissions while you are there.

Happens in 3G and LTE VZ environment.
Turning hotspot off and on getsw things working again.
Does Apple have antenna on a timer so it shuts off after a few minutes?
Does this happen on Mini and Retina as well?

    Fixed!
Two things together have restored connectivity.
    1.  I changed the name under Settings > General > About > Name from My Name's iPad to iPad of My Name.  I read somewhere that iOS 7.0.1 or 7.0.2 (I forget which) sometimes had issues with apostrophes here.  Easy enough to test.
    2.  I then reset (again) the APN settings under Settings > Cellular Data > APN Settings > Personal Hotspot and reentered our provider's info (APN, Username, Password) there.
I don't know WHY it worked, but the personal hotspot is now happily sharing (again) internet connectivity with my MacBook Pro.

  • I have an iPhone 5 that constantly shuts off after 5-10 minutes..

My iPhone 5, purchased on Amazon, used, constantly shuts off after 5-10 minutes of uptime right after a color fade. I got it to stay on but I just can't reboot it otherwise it'll happen again. But if I don't reboot it, my battery percentage will not update. I'm not sure if it's water damage or just a bad battery. I'm afraid to leave it charging overnight since the battery percentage doesn't budge and it'll just continue charging.

You should get it checked by visiting an Authorized Apple Service Provider or Apple Store and see if the battery needs to be replaced.
Did you check the moisture indicators to see if the device did get damaged by liquid?

  • My macbook pro turns on and shuts off after about thirty seconds

After force shutting my computer by holding the on button, my macbook pro will not start up anymore. It displays the loading screen for around thirty to forty seconds, but shuts off immediately after that. My battery is in good condition and works fine.
Does anyone know how to fix this?

    Hi ltksm,
If you are having issues with your MacBook Pro shutting down unexpectedly, you may want to try resetting the SMC (System Management Controller). You may find the following article helpful:

  • IMac OS X Snow Leopard does not boot.  Turn on and it stays on gray screen with spinning wheel.  Shuts down after approx 1 minute.  How can I get in to troubleshoot?

    Need tips for troubleshooting

Put the disk that came with the Mac in the DVD/CD drive and start up holding down Command+C and hopefully the Mac will boot, albeit very slowly.
At the first screen choose your language (you are NOT going to re-install at this point) and from the menu bar select Utilities>Disk Utility. Once DU has launched select your Macintosh HD on the left and click on 'repair disk'. If it says it fixed anything click on 'repair disk' again until you get a clean pass. Restart as normal from the Apple menu.

  • HT1941 My MacBook Air was running slow and shut off

Hi. My MacBook Air was loading pages too slow a for few days then closed down. Now, I can not restart it. Do I need a new battery? I had been deleting cookies also, mostly 3rd party ones, when this happened.
Thanks for any help. I'm new at this.

Does it start when the power adapter is connected?
    Try a SMC reset:

If no success, an Apple store genius bar appointment is the best option.

  • HP DV6-6B25TX shutting off after 10 to 15 seconds irrespective of battery power or AC power

    Hi,
MY DV6-6B25TX is shutting off after 10 to 15 seconds irrespective of battery power or AC power.
Following is the complete scenario of what happened during the last few weeks:-
Two weeks back i was using the laptop with the AC adaptor plugged in for charging, the battery got charged upto 99% then it stopped charging and the battery icon text displayed, 'Plugged in, Not Charging'.
A week back the battery was 20 %, after plugging in the charger, still the same message 'Plugged in, Not Charging'.
Now the laptop doesnt respond to the power key when the battery is inserted.
If i remove the battery and again put it back, it starts without pushing the power button and shuts off after 10 seconds, i.e. even before starting Windows.
It shuts down even when on Bios Screen, so OS is definately not the issue.
When i connect the charger and press the power button, same thing i.e. starts and shutts off after 10 to 15 seconds irrespective of BIOS screen or Windows Boot.
I removed the ram and but it back again but still the problem persists.
Also there is no question of overheating due to dust as i have barely used the laptop for a few hours, the laptop is around 6 months old and under warranty.
    Please Advice ASAP.
    Thanks in Advance.

Honestly, something is preventing the battery from being charged. The notebook shutting down seconds after reinserting the battery is a good indication the battery just isn't getting charged. This could be a failed battery, charger, charging port, or motherboard in rare instances.
Since it is in warranty, I recommend contacting HP support as there is no easy fix for this on the forums. It is a hardware issue.

  • Every time i start my MacBook Air i get the spinning wheel and have to soft boot (shift, control, option, power) it three or four time s before it starts

Every time i start my MacBook Air i get the spinning wheel and have to soft boot (shift, control, option, power) it three or four time s before it starts. It has only been over the last week or so I also found Safari will not load up and tyou have too open then shut from the drop down then restart it to get a page, any help pleas?

    Do this:
Reinstall Lion, Mountain Lion, or Mavericks
Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the
COMMAND and R keys until the Utilities menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and
after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears.
Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu.
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the main menu. Select Restart from the Apple menu.
Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion, Mavericks: Reboot from the Recovery HD. Select Reinstall
Lion/Mountain Lion, Mavericks from the Utilities menu, and click on the Continue button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is
                    three times faster than wireless.

  • I am having trouble with computer freezing, spinning wheel.  The only way to get out is to manually shut off computer and reboot.

The issue usually occurs when computer goes into the screensaver mode.  When this happens, none of the keys are opperable and the round wheel/ball just continues to spin.  The only resolve is to manually shut down the computer witht the button on back of the monitor/hard drive.  Not sure if this is bad for the computer to shut down this way or not.

I starting having this "colored spinning wheel" problem too! It started about two weeks ago and like the others, every time I go into my Yahoo mail, I get the spinning-wheel and the only way out is to "X" out of the site. Sometimes I can make it through a few notes, other times the problem starts as soon as I click on the first note. I searched google a few days ago and saw a response to this problem that said I should "uncheck" the 3 items in the "Auto-fill" preferences in Safari (Safari-Preferences-Autofill) and that should help. It did not. I also went in and deleted cookies, cache and history, but that didn't work either, or if it did, it only took a few clicks to experience the problem again. One of the times I went in to delete cookies I noticed over 100 cookies and other website data stored and I had only been on perhaps 2 or 3 sites (CNN, google and yahoo and perhaps Apple), and I never click on the adds. Don't know if there's any significance to this but I thought that was an awful lot of "cookies" for just a few clicks after previously deleting cookies. Also, I believe I have the latest version of Yahoo mail. I actually have 2 Yahoo accounts and the spinning wheel is a problem with both of them, same for my wife. Any help would be very much appreciated.
I have a MacBook Pro purchased last December with Snow Leopard 10.6.8, Safari version 5.1, an Intel core i5 processor, 4 GB of memory and a 320 GB HD with very little loaded on it.
