Black Macbook : GREEN DOT DISCOLORATION

I bought my black macbook just a little more than a week ago. Its been good to me...but yesterday, i simply closed it to put it to sleep - i went to sleep - woke up and there was a green dot on the bottom of the frame of the screen, just left of the M of the "MacBook" logo. I would imagine that Apple will claim this as a cosmetic issue and will not take any measures to help me out - but just to check, has ANYONE heard of this problem? Any help would be appreciated.

I had this problem after owning a black macbook for three days (I returned this macbook because of some other problems it had and exchanged it with a White macbook). I had no idea where it came from - it suddenly appeared on the wrist area of my macbook - very small green dots. I tried to clean them, but couldn't get rid of them. I thought it is more of the issue of paint peeling rather than discoloration. But who knows?

  • Black screen with green dots?

This has happened 3 times now.  I woke up my iMac and the screen was black with green dots.  I could not do anything.  I had to force turn it off via the power button and then turn it back on.  Then it worked fine.  What could be wrong? TIA

  • Macbook LCD random purple & green dots

    Hi,
I bought my black Macbook last November, it has been working fine since then, but a couple of weeks ago it stared having a random LCD problem when I turn it on, green and purple dots appear on some parts of the screen, they usually go away after 15 – 20 minutes but I’m concerned this could be the beginning of a more serious problem.
Does anybody know what is this problem about and how to fix it?
    Thanks a lot

Had the same problem with a black MacBook purchased in November. With mine is started right away and was there 95% of the time. After 3 attempted repairs from AppleCare and the "genus bar" here in Boulder, where they replaced every thing from the logic board to the inverter board and even the lcd, I decided to just wait and see if the problem went away on its own. I brought it in a couple days ago again to give it another shot and they replaced the "LVDS Cable w/Camera" and that seams to have fixed the problem which I believe is the cable that connects the inverter board to the lcd. Good luck.

  • Why is there a small green dot on middle of macbook pro screen display

There is a green dot on my screen that always appears when I'm on my desktop. Also, it sometimes appears ranodmely when using other applications... for exapmle: Safari, Microsoft Word, iTunes, GTA, etc... Just randomely it will show and it won't go away. I've tried cleaning the screen with the cloth that came in the macbook pro box. Is it a software issue or a display issue, or is there a burnt pixel? I have the new Macbook Pro 2012.

It's under warranty.  Take it in to get it looked at.  It's not normal.

  • Discoloration (spots) on black macbook cover

I just opened up my new black MacBook. I noticed about 5 discolored small spots (2mm or so) on the top. They look to be a darker gray color instead of black. Three of them form a triangle. The other two are off by themselves. I would post a picture but they are very difficult to photograph. I will likely exchange it tomorrow and see if the new one has any spots.
    Anybody else see this yet?

I haven't seen any post about a discolorated cover.
But definitely you can bring that to apple store and show them side by side with their display model.

  • I turned on my Macbook and the screen is all funny. Lots of green dots are flickering on the monitor.

Do you know how to fix a monitor that is showing a lot of green dots? Some images are also flickering.

I agree Thedave413..... Just this aint never happened to me before you no .... Press the power button.. , the macbook pro makes the normal sound.... But the screen doesnt go blue, Or it doesnt do anything even though the keys soon light up as if the macbooks running perfectly, Al except my screen.. which is completely blank ???

  • Strange Green Dots/Brighter areas

I just started having a display issue with my 2011 Macbook Pro. Patches of the screen show small, faint green dots spaced in an even pattern. They don't appear in screenshots, and appear faint even when the screen is black, but are nonetheless visible. In addition to this, there's two "splothces" near the middle of the screen that seem to be brighter than the rest, which is especially noticeable when the screen is white. Has anyone experienced similar issues?

Sounds like a hardware issue; I'd bet on the LCD display going bad. Take it to be fixed asap -- I hope it's still under warranty...

  • 3 green dots on my image from the built in camera is this normal?

Whenever I use skype for video calling, Ichat, or photo both there are 3 green dots on my image. They're just anoying and can be seen by the people I'm video chatting with. Is this normal? I can see that beside the camera there are dots one on each side. Are they BOTH suppose to light up green when the camera is in use? Mine, only the right one lights up when in use. Is this something that I should be worried about? Thanks!

    Hi,
If you have one of the very newest Macs and the Manual refers to the Internal Camera as  "Face Time" one then it could be capable of HD in some apps.
I have a USB External camera in use with my G4 Computer
In this pic I tilted it to capture an Overhead light as well as the top of my head.
The Pic was taken about 7.45 in the evening  (I am about 100 miles west of London so it is still quite light outside).
As you can see the Lens cannot cope with the Brightness of the overhead bulb (it is only 50watts) and visual distortions appear as well.
Not only are there the larger flare effects but between the red and blue arrows there are also radiating white lines towards my head.
Your Screen will reflect what is in the room.
How glossy it is will effect the amount you notice.
With a darker background you are likely to notice that you can see your own reflection.
Tilting the screen will move your reflection up or down and possibly at some angles you will not be able to see yourself (you would "drop off" the bottom as you close the lid on a laptop for instance)
If I place a light behind my screen so my face is lit up when it is darker here then it reflects off my glasses and people cannot see my eyes.
I can imagine the case if you wear glasses and have the screen at a certain angle then the green Indicator light is being reflected back to the Camera and is showing up in the pic.
This would certainly "Drop Off" the bottom when you tilt the Screen further.
There may be something that has roundish surface that is behind you that is reflecting the green of the indicator light.
This is a pic of an Effect called Frosted Glass
It is supposed to look like the sort of glass your get in a bathroom.
I post it so you know the type of glass I mean.
My front door, which  is close to my computer,  has this type of glass but also with a wood effect pattern to it.
this has many ridges and grooves.
At times this produces prism type effects on the walls (I have my computer positioned so they don't get on the screen)
I can imagine that a similar effect may happen from a light that has a galss shade or one of those with coloured glass beads making up the shade is scattering green light in this case all round the room and you just happen to see three of them in the video feed picture.
My thought in the earlier post was an effect from the bevelled edge of a mirror that might be scattering light.
    Other causes
    You mention a light sensor.
My MacBook Pro has one somewhere that controls when the Keyboard backlight needs to light up.
I am not sure where it is on mine.
It may be that it has been repositioned on newer computers to the top of the screen.
It may also be something to do with the camera as it maybe HD, to actually indicate there is not enough light to do a HD pic.
However I can't see any indication of this in the Specs sheet for a MacBook Pro.

  • Many small black and white dots on LCD

I bought macbook pro 2 months ago, the 2.33 ghz core 2 duo wid 2 gig ram and ATi Radeon X1600 xt gfx card. Recently i noticed small black and white dots cluttered in one place. The rest of the screen has about 7 - 8 independent dots, I feel as if they are increasing day by day. Is there any permanent solution to this. I contacted the apple support and I'm waiting on their decision.

Thanx, but I think this is more of an hardware problem. Since its on the screen, I tried to take a screenshot, but the dots were not on the image. I have searched many times, it seems many people have this same problem, I think its the dead pixels, but this too much.

  • Tiny green dot in middle of screen

I noticed yesterday that I have a tiny green dot in the middle of my iPhone 3G screen. I have not dropped or damaged my phone in any way. This dot appeared coincidentally after upgrading to iOS 4 but I think it's just that...merely coincidental??
    Any advice?
    Thanks!

    Hi.
LCD screens have pixels which are made up of 3 sub-pixels of red, green, and blue. It is possible that one green sub-pixel may be stuck in the 'on' position. A quick internet search for the term 'stuck pixel' will reveal that this is a fairly common situation for LCD screens, not just those from Apple.
Now, one potential way to attempt to un-stick a stuck pixel is to use an application that activates all of the pixels on the scree at the same time, and can change the colors through the 3 primary ones of red, green, and blue, as well as all of them (white) and none of them (black). The free 'flashlight' app will activate all of the screens pixels, and you can set it to automatically 'strobe' through multiple colors of your choosing. So you may be able to use this app to 'shock' your screen pixel and un-stick it. It may or may not help, but it will only cost you a little bit of your time (and no money) to try it.

  • My late 2006 Black MacBook has a gray screen and won't boot.

My late 2006 Black MacBook has a gray screen, folder icon, and flashing question mark.  I replaced the HD with a Western Digital 500 GB and had no change.  What's wrong with my MacBook?

That folder with the question mark icon means that the MacBook can't find the boot directory. That can either mean it can't find the hard drive or the hard drive Operating System data is somehow corrupted.
Put your install DVD into the optical drive and reboot. As soon as you hear the boot chime, hold down the "c" key on your keyboard (or the Option key until the Install Disk shows up). That will force your MacBook to boot from the install DVD in the optical drive.
Once it has finished booting and you Choose Your Language and you are at the Install screen launch Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. Is your Hard Drive in the list on the left?
If it is then select the First Aid Tab run Repair Disk and if that repairs any problems run it again until the green OK appears and then run Repair Permissions.
If your hard drive isn’t recognized in Disk Utility then your hard drive is probably dead.

  • Black MacBook's paint flaking off?

There are some buzz about the black paint flaking off from the MacBook.
Anybody experiencing this problem with their black MacBook?
    Here is the link:
    http://www.dailytech.com/article.aspx?newsid=2397

but with all the problems I've been
reading about, I'm really tempted to wait for a
while... what with flaking of the black macbook,
discoloration on the white, mooing and noise with the
macbook pro and heating issues all around...
Dude! Remember where you are. This is a support site. That means if anything goes wrong, people come here for help. But people who are happy and content with their computers don't come here.
I don't know what percentage of problems the Macbooks are having. They are new, and Apple can't test out what everyone everywhere will do with or to their computer...so when people start doing whatever they do, problems appear that were not anticipated. In addition, this is electronics and with electronics, there is a percentage chance of lemons--that's for any electronics that come out from any company no matter how reputable. So no group of electronics is going to ever be trouble free.
This question is, have there been more problems with the MB than expected given this percentage and given that it's being field tested in mass numbers for the first time? If there are more problems...why and were they taken care of? There was reportedly one bad batch. From what I understand, there are no more of that bad batch so you're good to go on the latest ones--or so I've heard. Someone can correct me if I'm wrong.
My opinion, the MacBook is a FANTASTIC laptop and you should get one. The keyboard can't be beat, the trackpad is great, the screen is wonderful, the built in camera is fun. It is an AMAZING laptop.
No computer is ever guaranteed problem-free forever--and certainly none are ever going to look pristine forever. Like a new car, you will eventually get that first scratch or dent or flake. Laptops take a lot of wear and tear even if you baby them and keep them wrapped in protective covers. Nature of the beast. They go places and get scratched and bumped. But at least this laptop has a magnetic plug, so you know you won't be likely to jerk it off a table and have it crashing to the floor when you trip over the cord.
And you WILL trip over the cord. I did the first week I had it. The magnetic plut pulled right out and the laptop remained undamaged.
Laptops are more delicate than desktops. Again, nature of the beast. Go to an Apple store, test out a MB. If you want it and like it, get it. Cost-wise, it's a great deal for a laptop. Buy Apple care and you'll have it covered for 3 years pretty much no matter what happens.

  • I have a 2008 black macbook and access UK tv through a purchased proxy site. I want to buy a sony bravia internet connected tv to watch the channels in more comfort. Sony tell me this won't work - that the tv cannot capture my macbook content. Any advice?

I have a 2008 black MacBook and acess UK tv through a puchased proxy. I want to purchase a Sony Bravia internet connected tv and stream the site through a tv - Sony tell me this won't work - that a latest model tv cannot capture content and sites from a MacBook - is this true???? Surely there is a solution? Any help or advice welcome.

They are correct.  The only stream you can wireless connect the TV to a Mac is through an AppleTV, and that's purchased content on iTunes, and your own homemade content that is H.264 MPEG-4 that is 1800kbps.   Conversion of commercial video to that format is illegal, and hence how can not be stated on the forum.    Alternatively, as long as the TV is HDMI, you can wired connect it to your MacBook using the same advice here:

  • Black Macbook out to Sony Bravia Question

So I just bought a new Sony Bravia 22" LCD TV. I'm excited to use the TV as a monitor for my computer, or at least so that I can play back Hulu or other such videos on the TV. The TV supports VGA in as a "PC" input as well as 2 HDMI ports. I know I need to get an adapter for the mini DVI port on my Macbook, however I'm not sure whether to go the route of mini DVI to VGA or mini DVI to DVI with a DVI-HDMI cable to the computer. I know in both cases I will need a separate audio cable so that's not the issue. The TV says that it has a native 720p resolution. I think the highest VGA resolution supported by the TV is 1360x768, but the HDMI is higher I think. Thanks for your help

I also have a black macbook and I recently purchased a 42" Sony Bravia TV and I have a few questions...
    So I think I need 3 things:
    - the mini DVI to VGA cable
    - the VGA to VGA cable (that will connect to my TV right? how long of a cable is useful?)
    - another cable for the audio...
What do I need to get for the audio portion? Someone told me to get a 3.5mm AV RCA Cable with the red/white that connect to the ports on my TV and then the headphone jack on my laptop.
    Advice? Thanks!
