Black MacBook Trackpad Will not respond.

My trackpad will not respond to any gesture. The button will not work either. Does anyone know how to fix this?

do you have a mouse plugged into your macbook? Is your battery expanded and pressing on the bottom of the trackpad? If its the later, remove it and take it into an apple store. Mine was just replaced for free yesterday.

My MacBook pro will not respond to click of the mouse but the cursor does move.

    Hi,
Try installing the trackpad update from apple.

  • Macbook pro will not respond to command r

Macbook pro will not boot up or respond to command r

If the machine is older than October 2011, you will need a firmware to enable the command-R boot.   Try booting with the Option key to see if anything is visible.
If not, and you aren't backed up, see this tip:
    https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-1689
If you are backed up, but the machine won't turn on, try resetting the SMC:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht3964
If it won't turn on, but is under 4 years old, try resetting the PRAM:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1379
If the Mac has a removable battery (exposed to the outside), try connecting the computer to a known working outlet (testing with another electronic device), and remove the battery before resetting the SMC or PRAM if they didn't work at first.

  • MacBook bluetooth will not respond

I am a huge fan of built in bluetooth. I use it with my phone as a wireless model, I send files, make skype calls, and even listen to music on the sales floor. About one month ago I noticed that it would not connect to the phone to sync. I didn't think much of it at the time. Then I noticed that it would not do anything.
I can activate bluetooth from the menu bar. I can navigate to any menu I need just fine, but when I try to send a file or search for a new device it will not respond. The button will react for a second but it will not search or send.
In Internet connect the error I get is "Cannot open the communication device." Same when I try to change the sound settings to my headset.
This is from a fresh install after my hard drive failed, under any and all user accounts. I reset the Pram also.
I am thinking I need a new bluetooth module
Here is what it shows under System Profiler
    Apple Bluetooth Software Version: 1.7.9f12
    Services:
    Bluetooth File Transfer:
Folder other devices can browse: ~/Public
    Requires Authentication: No
    State: Disabled
    Bluetooth File Exchange:
    Folder for accepted items: ~/Desktop
    Requires Authentication: Yes
When other items are accepted: Ask
When PIM items are accepted: Ask
When receiving items: Prompt for each file
    State: Enabled
The obvious answer will be "bring it into an apple store. I am hoping there is some easy fix that I overlooked.
    Thanks,
    Brian

Anyways I wouldn't bother doing an
archive and install if you don't have the time, but
it could possiably be software...and that would have
a good chance of solving it.
I wish that was the case. I just did a clean install when I got the new hard drive so it shouldn't be software. I really didn't want to have to ship it in.

  • Whenever I try to use my macbook, it will work for about 10 min. then the screen will go black, the computer will not respond to my commands, and I have to restart it. Can anyone tell me what's going on, and how to fix it? Thank you!!!

Hello everyone, like most people on this site, I am having difficulties understanding and fixing my Macbook Pro. About a month ago my computer screen went black, the computer was unresponsive, and it started making a beeping noise. I restarted the computer, and it seemed to have fixed itself. 6 days ago, I put my laptop into it's case with some papers, went home (about 30 min. after putting laptop into case), and opened my bag. My computer's fans were on, the computer was really hot, and when I opened the computer, the screen was black and unresponsive. I turned it off, let it cool down, turned it back on, started to stream a video on Hulu, and about ten minutes after, the screen went black again and the computer was unresponsive. Now everytime I turn it on after about ten to fifteen minutes the screen will go black, the computer will become unresponsive, and I have to shut it off. The weird thing though is that everytime I restart my computer, when I reopen my account, my computer acts as if nothing has happened, and everything I had opened or unsaved is still there without autosave saving the documents. The screen also goes black and the computer becomes unresposive when I move the computer around. I get a lot of pop-up ads and other crap on my computer when I am on the internet. I don't know if one of those pop-up websites might have given me a virus or may be the cause of this problem. I don't now what is wrong with my computer or how to fix it, but if anyone has any advice, I WOULD GREATLY APPRECIATE IT!!!!!!! Thank you very much!!!
-- Sincerely, A very confused, scared, and hopless Macbok Owner

To get rid of "pop-up ads and other crap on my computer when I am on the internet", click on Safari in the Menu bar, and select Preferences. Next select Extensions. Delete all of them. Restart Safari.
The first step in addressing the black screen is an SMC reset.
    Shut down the computer.
Plug in the MagSafe power adapter to a power source, connecting it to the Mac if its not already connected.
On the built-in keyboard, press the (left side) Shift-Control-Option keys and the power button at the same time.
Release all the keys and the power button at the same time.
Press the power button to turn on the computer.
Note: The LED on the MagSafe power adapter may change states or temporarily turn off when you reset the SMC.

you probably have a bad video card. The decision would be up to you but for that PC because it was so unique I'd look for an Authorized HP Repair facility in your area, that way they will know how to take it apart. The video card in this system has a heat sink attached to it as well and it pretty involved. You can replace it on your own, but it would be pretty involved. Here is a link to some instructions on how to open the case.

    Hey Jayne15,
Thanks for the question. If I understand correctly, the trackpad will not respond and the keyboard is having trouble too. I would recommend that you read these articles, they may be helpful in troubleshooting your issue.

Cannot find any support except for this.
Apple will not support unless you have bought a support package and is now offering to sell you this package.
Makes me ponder the thought that this is all a scamm to get more money out of the customer and this program (virus) was purposely loaded during one of the updates.
Not sure what I bought here but my respect for apple and its products is deteriorating rapidly.

I'm not sure where you got that idea. All Macs come with free phone support for the first 90 days:
    http://www.apple.com/support/complimentary/
Further, you can always make an appointment at the Genius Bar of your nearest Apple Store and take the machine there for free advice and basic diagnostics (though any service may cost money outside the warranty).
Finally, Apple offers a 14-day, no-questions-asked return policy. If your machine isn't working properly right out of the box, take it back and get a different one.

That's a pretty ridiculous thing to say that clearly indicates an utter lack of understanding of how the tech world works. I appreciate that you're upset, but please try to stick to reality here. You won't get much sympathy from anyone saying silly things like this.

I just created a new profile/user on my MacBook Pro. My pointer/mouse on my trackpad. It works fine in my older user profile, but when I go to the new profile my mac will not respond to clicks. The Mouse moves but will not click. Already tried restarting and the pram zap. The problem starts when I log out of my main profile. I get to the login screen and my laptop stops responding to clicks. When I manage to make my way back to my main profile the mouse works perfectly.  Should I just delete the new profile and try again?

If the modem is also a router, either use the modem in bridge and run pppoe client on the TC.. that is assuming ADSL or similar eg vdsl. If it is cable service.. and the modem is a router, then bridge the TC.. go to internet page and select connect by ethernet and below that set connection sharing to bridge.
Please tell us more about the modem if the above gives you issues.

  • Imac 27" Intel Core 7 CPU. Screen goes black and will not respond except with a push of power button. Second monitor connected via displayport continues to display fine. Apply Store did full hardware scan and all is fine. Did clean wipe from Mavrick back

Imac 27" Intel Core7  CPU 16 Gig RAM. Screen goes black and will not respond except with a push of power button. Second monitor connected via displayport continues to display fine. Apply Store did full hardware diagnostic and all is fine. Did clean wipe from Mavrick back to Mountain Lion but problem remains. Apple Store can do no more.

I did some more digging, it appears to be a backlight problem only. I can see the screen very dimly if I use a bright flashlight in a very dark room. It also seems to run ok if the brightness is turned down a LOT.
So I'm thinking this is a LED driver board issue or the display itself. I'll open it up and check the connection between the two and see if I can get any more clues. At least I can use it somewhat now by dimming the display significantly...

  • MacBook Pro 15" not responding after boot-up?

My MacBook Pro 15” has an issue and won’t work! Yesterday I went to my MB to load it up for my daily commute into the city. As I was loading my bag I tried to disconnect my ext. backup drive that works via Time Machine.
When I left it the night before for its nightly back-up everything was five by five. However in the morning I couldn’t disconnect the device nor did my trackpad work (no mouse cursor). I was forced to perform a cold shut-down.
When I returned home last night I initiated a power up on my MacBook Pro. Everything booted up fine however I didn’t have control of the trackpad. My keyboard didn’t work either. I shut it down and repeated the process a few more times. Each time after the boot-up I had the same problem. I can see the mouse cursor, but have no control and the keyboard will not respond to any key being depressed.
Does anyone know what is wrong my MacBook Pro, beside user error or the “Nut behind the wheel?”
Any help or suggestion would be appreciated.
    Cheers~

Did you try booting up using the system disk? By rebooting into the system disc, will test whether the keyboard problem is localized to the installed version of OSX or a larger problem.
Here is a little follow up. I went home and tried the system disk. No luck, now I have a system disk in my machine that I cannot remove because the eject button doesn't work.
I took my MBP to the Genius Bar as scheduled. The “Genius” did the normal reboot and head scratch test. However when he plugged in an external mouse and keyboard, voila Bob’s your Uncle and it worked. Hi expert firm determination had concluded that the trackpad and keyboard were no functioning on my MBP…
The trackpad and keyboard are connected to the motherboard via a ribbon cable that had been fried at the connection. They will be keeping “left brain” for the next few days to RR the trackpad and keyboard.
The good news is that I have the service plan that will cover all expenses and parts. It was worth it to spend the few extra monies upfront, because I could only imagine what this would cost without it.
The other good news is that they will not send my MBP to the Tennessee repair depot, it will stay at the store to be worked on.
