Black Monitor after Change in Resolution

I have a G3 running 9.1.
I hooked up a pc monitor to the machine and it worked until I
changed the resolution. Then the screen went black.
Any ideas of how to reset it?

Hi, Mot -
Also, some CRT monitors contain their own PRAM which retains the last resolution settings made via the Monitors control panel. In many cases that can be cleared, or reset -
To do this, power everything down, disconnect the video cable from the Mac. Then turn the monitor on, wait 15 to 20 seconds, then turn it off; wait about 10 seconds, then repeat the cycle, 3 or 4 times. Then reconnect the video cable and boot back up.

Black monitor screen after system turns on
"I've tried numerous troubleshooting procedures to see if the computer really works like connecting the tower to another monitors, tried a dvi cable that I have as well.  I've open the tower and unplugged each cable attached to the motherboard plus the two memory dimms.  After that, I dusted off most of the dust bunnies from inside the tower including the fan attached to the motherboard.  I used an air spray can.
After all that was done, plugged all the cables and memory dimms back in place.  I connected the tower to my monitor and still have a black screen.
    What should I do?

You'd need to purchase a PCI-E video card.  Here are a few examples.  Also, this video shows you how you go about replacing the graphics card in the computer tower.

    Hello,
When my application changes the Resolution and then calls
    System.Windows.Forms.Screen.PrimaryScreen.Bounds
call returns the previous Screen Bounds instead of the recently updated one.
How can "System.Windows.Forms.Screen.PrimaryScreen.Bounds " be forced to return the updated screen bounds ?
    Is this a bug ?

  • Won't Print Black even after changing printhead

Last week the printer stopped printing black.  The colors still print fine.  I have gone through the print head cleaning like 10x, new cartridges.  I even got a replacement printhead and it still won't print in black.  HP phone Support was useless.  He tried to sell me a service call then tried to sell me a new printer.  If I need a new printed I'll buy it myself.
Are there any solutions or fixes?  To repeat - I cleaned the printhead multiple times, installed new cartridges and installed a new printhead. I even removed and reinstalled the printer
I am really starting to hate HP products

Was the replacement printhead new from HP or a reman from a third party?
I would suggest checking the black cartridge vents as described in the document here.  If that does not resolve the issue then soaking the printhead as discussed in the post here may help.

  • Monitor says VIDEO MODE NOT SUPPORTED after changing display settings

HELP! I am about to have a nervous breakdown with my mac mini! I hooked up the mac to my Philips LCD via DVI. No problem at all. But because the screen is only 15" I wanted to play around with the display settings a bit. So I changed the resolution from it's original 1204x768 to the one higher (not sure of numbers) and to my HORROR, I now can't get any picture at all - it says "VIDEO MODE NOT SUPPORTED". I have tried everything I can think of. I have rest the P-RAM, I have unplugged all cables, plugged the back in again, I bought the mac into work and hooked it up to my monitor and changed the resolution back to 1024x768 which is what it was on originally and that STILL didn't work. I can see the Apple logo and then it goes black and comes up with the error message. HELP! What am I doing wrong - I can't believe one click of a mouse button has rendered my display useless!!!

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
Try booting the mini without the display connected, and then, once the system is running, connect the display. This will often force the system to default to a low resolution, and then correctly detect the display when it is connected.
If that doesn't help, with the display connected, boot into safe mode (hold the shift key down when starting up) and once the system is running, change the resolution to 1024x768, and ensure the correct refresh rate is selected. Rebooting normally ought then to give you a good display.
If all else fails, boot into safe mode with the display connected, and then in the Finder's file menu, use the 'find' option to search for 'windowserver' (no quotes). You should get 2 or 3 results, including one with a string of alphanumeric characters. Move all of them to the trash and restart normally.

  • Changing screen resolution with xrandr [SOLVED]

My current setup consists of two different monitors (different resolutions) being connected to a single Nvidia card (neouveau driver).
The problem is that the monitor resolution does not change when I use xrandr to change the resolution. What does happen is the resolution of the output changes so that all items on the screen are smaller, but as a consequence of the monitor resolution staying constant (at 1440x900) this also leads to everything getting blury.
    Output for xrandr after booting:
    Screen 0: minimum 320 x 200, current 1440 x 900, maximum 8192 x 8192
    DVI-I-1 connected 1440x900+0+0 (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) 360mm x 290mm
    1440x900 60.2*+
    1920x1080 60.0
    1280x1024 75.0 60.0
    1360x768 60.4
    1024x768 75.1 70.1 60.0
    832x624 74.6
    800x600 72.2 75.0 60.3 56.2
    640x480 72.8 75.0 66.7 60.0
    720x400 70.1
DVI-I-2 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis)
Output after changing the resolution to 1920x1080:
    Screen 0: minimum 320 x 200, current 1920 x 1080, maximum 8192 x 8192
    DVI-I-1 connected 1920x1080+0+0 (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) 360mm x 290mm
    1440x900 60.2 +
    1920x1080 60.0*
    1280x1024 75.0 60.0
    1360x768 60.4
    1024x768 75.1 70.1 60.0
    832x624 74.6
    800x600 72.2 75.0 60.3 56.2
    640x480 72.8 75.0 66.7 60.0
    720x400 70.1
DVI-I-2 disconnected (normal left inverted right x axis y axis)
I have set up both of these monitors to work fine today, except for the resolution problem. The DVI-I-2 seen has a maximum resolution of 1440x900, which is what both monitiors are running at although DVI-I-1 has a max of 1920x1080.
Does anyone have any ideas on how to succeed in setting DVI-I-1 to the desired resolution?

Yes, GPU support for dual head is there. I think I will try out the Nvidia drivers.
Edit: I have installed the Nvidia driver and everything is working perfectly. Thanks for your suggestion.

  • How do I change screen resolution in command line?

Hi, I was controlling a remote server by Apple Remote Desktop and have lost control of it after changing the resolution. Is there a way to change the resolution in the command line, without restarting?
If I can screen resolution in the command line I can send the unix command to the remote server and hopefully fix my problem.

Hi, I'm not aware of a way to do it without a little work. For example, I found some code at Mac OS X Hints that will change the screen resolution from a command line, but you'd have to compile it. It compiled for me on 10.4.11, and the poster there said it compiles on 10.5 for him.
If you have the Xcode tools installed on your Mac, just copy that code into a plain text file, then save it as "main.c". Then, in Terminal, change directory to the same directory as that file and compile it:
    <pre class="command">gcc -o newscreen main.c -framework ApplicationServices</pre>
Then copy it to your server and try running it there:
    <pre class="command">./newscreen -h nnnn -v nnnn</pre>
where "nnnn" is the desired resolution...
I hope that works, anyway, since I'm still using Tiger...

  • Monitor went black after changing resolution

I changed my mac mini resolution to something higher. The screen went black and now it never shows anything on it anymore. I turned off the mac and the monitor but still the same problem when I turn the mac back on. How can I get to see the screen again?

    Hello Bill,
Welcome again to the Apple Forums.
Most likely you have picked a screen resolution and/or screen signal frequency that is not compatible to drive your monitor.
You have a couple options available to you.
    Option 1.
Restart your mini computer and turn off the monitor.
Let the mini computer start up completely.
The mini will detect no monitor is detected and default to a lower resolution and frequency setting.
Turn on your monitor after the mini has completed its start up.
    Option 2.
Restart you mini computer and leave the monitor turned on.
Hold down the shift key on the keyboard after you hear the start up tone.
The mini will start up in Safe Boot mode and switch to a lower resolution and frequency setting.
    Cheers
    Jan J.

  • How to Change the Resolution on the Monitor? Model HP 2011X- (20" flat screen monitor)

"input signal out of range, change settings to 1600 x 900 -60HZ" How to make this change?
I have a HP desktop PC and I recently purchased a HP 2011X  (20" flat monitor). Initially, I hooked it up to the pc and it worked and I did not have to install anything. But the other day, I ran the Microsoft's Fix-it-Center and ran the resolution problem detection even though I did not have any problem with the resolution. Within 5 seconds, a dark black screen appeared with the following message:
    INPUT SIGNAL OUT OF RANGE
    CHANGE SETTINGS TO
    1600 X 900 - 60HZ
It displays this message and then the monitor goes to sleep. I press the buttons at the bottom of the monitor and from time to time, it displays a resolution screen that shows the monitor's resolution is not 1600 x 900 but that HP recommends that setting. However, I cannot change anything and that small screen with black background disappears in a few seconds. I cannot see anything else and I have tried the following:
    - Turned the PC on and off several times and the message is still there
    - Unplugged the power to the monitor and re-plugged it and no change
    - Unplugges the video cable from the PC to the monitor and re-plugged it and nothing
Please help. I cannot see the PC screens at all even though the PC is on. All I see is the black background screen with white text with the above message. How do I fix this when I cannot see the Windows screen or from the monitor.
    Thanks,
    Bob

    Hello IE_PC_User,
Let's try to get your computer to the boot options and go into VGA mode to see if you can change the resolution then.
Start up your computer and start tapping away at the F8 key.
Once the computer presents you with the boot options choose the VGA mdoe.
It should boot up and everything look really out of place. Set the proper resolution and then reboot.

I am also providing you with a screenshot of what appears! I need photos on my iPad2

You don't see it on the left-hand side of iTunes - you need to connect and select the iPad on the left-hand side, and then one of the tabs on the right-hand side that you use to select which content to sync to the iPad should be Photos : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4236
You will need to select and sync all the photos that you want on the iPad together in one go as only the most recent sync remains on the iPad, not including photos in a subsequent sync is how you delete them from it.

  • IPad no longer connecting to HP Photosmart Plus B210 after changing black tore cartridge

I had my iPad nicely connected to my HP Photosmart Plus B210.  However, after changing the black tore cartridge I am no longer able to print from the iPad.  The printer statur report and the wireless network test both show everything is OK.  Most of the time the iPad recognizes the printer and accepts the print command without any error messages.  However, sometimes it returns the message that the printer is offline even though it found the printer earlier.  Any solutions?  Thanks

I too have a B210 and the IPAD has printed marvelously via WIFI for about a half a year. Now, when the IPAD print radio button appears it still lists the B210 is available as if all is good but the printer doesn't come to life when the print command is issued. Printer sez it is connected to the router, too. I have reset the router and the printer a number of times and the printer sez everything is good. But, I can't print any longer from the IPAD. bummer.

  • Concerning Epson Printer 4880: after changing the Ink from Photo Black to Matte Black I'm not getting the Epson Software in Photoshop and Lightroom. I can not select the paper medium, I don't see my profiles. What is wrong?

Concerning Epson Printer 4880: after changing the Ink from Photo Black to Matte Black I'm not getting the Epson Software in Photoshop and Lightroom. I can not select the paper medium, I don't see my profiles. What is wrong?

That is priceless!!!  Thanks!  I sure needed a good laugh after spending/wasting hours & days trying to either get my c6280 to give up on its Ink System Failure fixation, or find a decent replacement.  Unfortunately I need the Smart Web Printing feature that I guess only HP has, or I'd try a different brand. And now even HP has very few models with that available.
My error msg is a little different from those previously stated, but close:  0xc18a0201.  Even tho there were frustrations with my c6280, I did like several of its unique features which are hard to find now under $100.  I hate how HP (& I suppose other brands also) are CONSTANTLY changing models & then of course ink cartridges.
Oh heavens, I've had the c6280 a whopping 2 1/2 years!   I'm sure they want us poor slobs to have to buy a new one every year & a day!  To say nothing of the exorbitant prices for ink.  And now if this one is really dead in the water, I have SIX unused #02 ink cartridges which I cannot return---I got them in a combo pack, & for some reason have wound up with THREE lite pink & THREE lite blue cartridges, while having to buy extras of the other colors, that ran out before the others!!!   Yeah, & what's with that not being able to print in BLACK if a color runs out????
Anyway I really loved your essay!   It's a classic!  And says it all!  I hate that we have to be 'slaves' to the electronic 'wonders'!!!

  • MG3100 Cannon Printer, after changing the black prints misallied, and I have manually aligned??

After changing the black ink cartridge on my Cannon MG3100, when I print word and from the internet the prints are all misaligned and I have manually done the print head alignment, print alignment values, cleaned the nozzles, cleaned elements and clenaed the roller. I even brought the ink cartridge back to Staples thinking it was defective, but it still will not print correctly, does anyone have any answers please? Thank you! DD

    Hi DD,
If you have replaced the ink cartridge with a Canon genuine ink cartridge and have already performed both automatic and manual print head alignments as well as cleanings and are still experiencing alignment issues, the printer will require servicing.  Please Contact Us for your servicing options.

  • Why can't I save a picture after I change the resolution in CS5, I could before.

Why am I unable to save a picture one I change the resolution? I know that I am doing it correctly I have done this thousands of times and all of a sudden it doesn't work. Pictures will save if I make other adjustments i.e. crop, erase...etc. The changes are made while the picture is open in photoshop I see the resolution changing but when I save it simply does not. Beyond FRUSTRATED PLEASE HELP! AS ADOBE WON'T HELP ME SINCE CS6 has been released I was told if I want help buy CS6.

Have you tried closing the Photos app completely and seeing if the pictures save to the camera roll/saved photos album after you re-open the app ? From the home screen (i.e. not with Photos 'open' on-screen) double-click the home button to bring up the taskbar, then press and hold any of the apps on the taskbar for a couple of seconds or so until they start shaking, then press the '-' in the top left of the Photos app to close it, and touch any part of the screen above the taskbar so as to stop the shaking and close the taskbar.
If that doesn't work then you could try a reset and see if it works after the iPad has restarted : press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.
