Black not printing

Recently printer has stopped printing black.  It was almost out of black ink so I changed the black cartridge.  I had already changed the color cartridges within the past couple of weeks.  I have changed them many times and never had this happen.  Color works fine.  However most things I print are black and white (not color).  I did change it to another new black cartridge but that didn't help either so I know it was not the cartridge and that it was correctly installed.
Could this also have something to do with using the printer wirelessly when I moved my laptop around the house and do not have it connected?  Since I noticed the problem though it has been in my office and connected.  Any issues with using it wirelessly and then plugging it back in?  Sometimes it did not print at all wirelessly but would printg when I plugged it back in.  You could barely see the black when I first noticed the issue but now just spits out an entirely white page.
Thanks for the help!

  • Photosmart 6510 black not printing

This morning I was able to print full-colour docs including black. After the first few prints, they became steadily fainter until nothing appeared. I checked the ink levels in the software and they were all marked as spent, so I went out and bought a 4-pack of HP inks. I installed them in the printer as indicated (wrapping off, orange whatnot off), tried test prints. Colours fine, no black. I ran a printhead clean from software, both an initial then a deeper clean. Printouts showed colour but no black. The control software shows all ink cartridges to be full. Printhead health is good. I turned it off and turned it on again. I cleaned the cartridge vent as advised in various threads. All with no effect - black doesn't print, despite a fresh new cartridge and the control software reporting the reservoir as full. If anyone on here has any ideas as to why this is the case then I'm all ears. If not, then I can only assume: a) the cartridge is knackered. As I've taken it out of its wrapping then I'll not be able to take it back to the shop.b) the printer is knackered, in which case it'll have to go to the skip as it's out of warranty. I've looked at the following forum threads: http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Ink-Toner-Cartridge-Printhead-Issues/Black-not-printing/m-p/2926025http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Ink-Toner-Cartridge-Printhead-Issues/Photosmart-6515-doesn-t-print-black-ink-after-installing-new/td-p/2637505 and of course Googled. This problem has already cost me 3 hours and counting, so if it takes any longer then it would be cheaper for me to go out and buy a new (non-HP) printer.

  • Black not printing - did all recommended steps, still not printing

I tried all the steps recommended in other posts. Still not printing black. If I replace the printhead, will that solve the problem?

    Hello @MN8  and @WHMaggie,
Welcome to the HP Support Forums!
I understand that you are both experiencing quality issues when printing in black ink from your HP Officejet 6500 All-in-One Printers. I would like to offer some additional assistance with resolving this issue.
Can I please have you both click here to access the troubleshooting steps. Once the support document opens please check Steps 1-5 to ensure that no steps have been missed. If you have completed those 5 steps to no avail, please proceed with Step 7 and Step 8 to manually clean and soak the Printhead mechanism.
Should the issue persist after cleaning the Printhead manually than the next step would be to replace the Printhead. The Printhead is the part that the cartridges fit into. It controls 'reading' the cartridges and putting ink on the page. If you're experiencing cartridge detection or quality issues and a replacement cartridge fails to resolve the issue than the next step would be to replace the Printhead mechanism. There is always a chance that the print system within the actual Officejet is defective. Should that be the case than a replacement Printhead will not resolve the issue and a whole unit replacement would be needed. If your printers are Out of Warranty I would recommend contacting our Technical Support queue by phone to explore replacement Printhead and printer options.
HP Technical Support can be reached at: 800-474-6836.

  • Black not printing though new cartridge

I just replaced both black and colour cartridges.  When the test page printed there was a warning symbol and the word "important".  There was a printed line that couldn't be read so each time I try to align the printer, it just reprints the same thing. When I tried to print something , the black is a light faded blue and all the colour is faded. Help!

    Hello
Did you resolve your issue with the printer not printing black text?
I have installed a new black toner cartridge today and have the same issue.

  • Photosmart 5520 - Black not printing on some things

My 5520 has been fitted with new cartridges and all work except the black.  Strangely, black (or at least grey) writing prints on the quality/print report and the cartridge shows as full when this is checked by the on screen request.  However, the print report has a completely blank rectangle under the 'black' heading.  I have followed all the usual steps but I am confused as to why I get black printing but no black on pictures.

HI , Welcome to the HP Support Forums! I understand that you're unable to print black on your HP Photosmart 5520 e-All-in-One Printer. I will certainly do my best to help you. I would try the steps within this guide, Printer Prints a Blank Page or Does Not Print Black or Color Ink for the HP Photosmart 5520 and Deskjet Ink Advantage 5520 e-All-in-One Printer Series.  Solution one: Use genuine HP ink cartridges HP recommends that you use genuine HP ink cartridges. HP cannot guarantee the quality or reliability of non-HP ink cartridges or refilled HP ink cartridges. If you do not use genuine HP ink cartridges, the steps in this document might not resolve print quality issues.Visit HP SureSupply to check ink cartridge compatibility or purchase replacement ink cartridges.Go to the HP SureSupply website.Scroll to the bottom of the page, and then make sure the country/region location is correct.Follow the on-screen instructions to order new ink cartridges or check ink cartridge compatibility with your printer.Genuine HP ink cartridges can also be purchased from other retailers. Solution two: Check the estimated ink levels, and then replace any low or empty ink cartridgesLow ink can contribute to poor print quality. Follow these steps to check the estimated ink levels, and then replace any low or empty ink cartridges. Step 1: Check the estimated ink levelsFollow these steps to check the estimated ink levels. From the home screen of the printer control panel, touch the Ink icon (). The current ink levels display.Figure : Example of estimated ink levels NOTE: Ink level warnings and indicators provide estimates for planning purposes only. When an indicator shows low-ink levels, consider having a replacement ink cartridge available to avoid possible printing delays. You do not need to replace ink cartridges until print quality becomes unacceptable. If none of the cartridges are low on ink, you do not need to replace them yet. Continue to the next solution. If any of the cartridges are low on ink, continue to the next step to replace them.Step 2: Replace any low or empty ink cartridgesFollow these steps to replace any low or empty ink cartridges.Video of replacing the ink cartridges The following video demonstrates how to replace a cartridge.  If you have trouble viewing the video or to view the video in a different size, click here to play the video on YouTube. If the product is off, press the Power button () to turn on the product. Otherwise, ink might leak from the cartridge. When you remove the plastic wrap, the paper label on the top of the cartridge tears slightly, which is necessary to vent the cartridge.Remove the orange cap from the cartridge. Twist the cap counter-clockwise until it snaps off.Figure : Remove the orange cap from the cartridgeWith the nozzle and the contacts facing down, push the cartridge into its slot. Press down on the cartridge until it is firmly seated. Make sure that the color icon on the cartridge label matches the color icon on the slot.Figure : Insert the cartridgeRepeat these steps to insert the other cartridges.Close the cartridge access door.Figure : Close the cartridge access doorStep 3: Align the printer Follow these steps to align the printer using the control panel. From the home screen, touch the Setup icon (), and then touch Tools.Touch the Down Arrow (), and then touch Align Printer. The alignment page prints.Lift the lid on the printer, and then place the alignment page print side down in the right front corner of the scanner glass.Figure : Place the alignment page on the scanner glassClose the lid, and then press OK on the control panel. The printer will align automatically. Press OK to continue.Solution three: Make sure that the ink cartridges are properly vented and seated correctlyIf the vent on the top of the ink cartridge is clogged or obstructed, the ink cartridge might not work properly. Follow these steps to make sure that the ink cartridges are properly vented and seated correctly.Press the Power button to turn on the printer, if it is not already turned on. Wait until the printer is idle and silent before continuing.Open the cartridge access door. Press down on the cartridge until it clicks into place. NOTE: Make sure that each cartridge is installed in the correct slot. Match the shape of the icon and the color of the cartridge with the slot that has the same shaped icon and color.Figure : Reinsert the cartridgeRepeat these steps to inspect the vents on each of the cartridges.Make sure that each cartridge is firmly in place in its slot. Run your finger along the top of the cartridges to feel for any that are protruding, and if any are, press down firmly until each cartridge snaps into place.Close the cartridge access door.Figure : Close the cartridge access doorTry the print job again.Solution four: Clean the printheadFollow these steps to use an automated tool to clean the printhead.Make sure that plain white U.S. letter or A4 size paper is loaded in the tray. From the control panel home screen, touch the Settings icon (), and then touch Tools.Touch the Down Arrow (), and then touch Clean Printhead. The product cleans the printheads, and then prints a test page.Review the print quality on the test page.Figure : Example of the printhead cleaning test pageIf the print quality on the test page is satisfactory, return to the current print job.If the print quality on the test page is unsatisfactory, perform a secondary cleaning of the printhead. If the printhead is badly clogged, it might require another cleaning cycle. If so, wait 30 minutes after the last cleaning stage to start the first stage of the cleaning process over again. NOTE:  Never turn off the printer when ink cartridges are missing. Make sure that you replace any missing ink cartridges as soon as possible to avoid print quality issues and possible extra ink usage or damage to the ink system. To avoid issues that require cleaning the printhead, always turn the printer off with the Power button on the printer itself.Solution five: Service the printer Contacting HP for service in all countries/regions except Asia Pacific. If you completed all the preceding steps and your product still has an issue, service the product.First, go to Check your product warranty to check your printer warranty status, and then go to Contact HP Support to find an authorized service dealer or to schedule a repair.Repair fees might apply for out-of-warranty printers. NOTE: Keep a print sample that shows the problem. If the ink cartridges, printhead, or printer is replaced under warranty, the support agent will request the print sample. If the printer is returned to HP, the print sample must be returned with the printer. Place the sample in the output tray when you package your printer for shipping. What you can do, is use the following link to create yourself a case number, then call and it may help speed up the call process:
    Step 1. Open link: www.hp.com/contacthp/

  • Deskjet 3520 Black not printing

I have a Deskjet 3520e All-in-One printer and I just replaced all four of the ink cartidges in it because they were empty. Now, suddenly the black will not print.
I have done all the fixes suggested by the support documents on this website. The cartidges are genuine, I bought them from the HP online store, they are installed correctly, and vented correctly. I have done an alignment as well as printhead cleanings. I used the HP Scan and Print Doctor application which said there is nothing wrong with my printer.
I am not sure what else to try at this point except maybe to by yet another cartidge to see if a different one would work. I have never had issues with this printer before.  I would appreciate any suggestions. Thank you!

  • Officejet 4620 - Black not printing

    Greetings,
The printer listed above is approx. 1.5 years old (out of warranty). All the color cartridges are printing fine, except for black. The cartridge has been replaced twice with brand new HP 564XL cartridges, but the problem remains.
i've followed every step outlined in the support page (http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c03137135&tmp_task=solveCategory&cc=us&dlc=en&lc...), but no change.
Are there any other options or tricks I can try before resorting to replacing the printhead(s)? If I've left out any required information, please let me know and I'll gladly supply. Thank you in advance for any input.

  • Inkjet 3522 : Printer does not print any black content

    - Model : Inkjet 3522
    - Cartridge: 564
    - Tried 3 cartridges, 1 was indicating low so I figured that was the problem in the first place so I got a new on swapped it carefully, didnt work.
    - I tried all the tools ie. cleaning printhead/status report/quality report etc.
    - Printer picks up the cartridge and shows full
    - 1st few times it would just print faded lines of text you can barely read it
    - I did a status report just now and the Yellow/Blue/Red(pink) shows up but the section for black is just empty, won't even print the report. That was my 2nd cartridge brand new and I swapped it immediately following instructions, didnt let it sit or anything.
    - I got the printer about 3-4 months ago and any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks!

The document here may help resolve black not printing on your Deskjet 3522 printer.  Be sure to check the vents as described in solution three.
Is your printer still in warranty? You can check with HP's warranty tool here.  If the printer is still in warranty and the above does not resolve the issue I would suggest you call HP for service.  In the US call 1-800-HPINVENt, elsewhere see the contact information here.

  • 7510 e-ALL-IN-ONE not printing black ink.

I have a Photosmart 7510 e-ALL-IN-ONE printer that has worked beautifully until the last time I replaced the black ink.  The printer screen says the ink cartridge is full, yet nothing will print.  I checked the vent on the cartridge, it seems to be fine.  I performed the clean cartridge procedure, but still nothing. This has been a great printer; what do I do?
