Black Photos in Photo Stream

Hi Guys,
Some photos shot on my iPhone 4s turn up black on iPhoto on my Mac. This affects about 30 percent of pictures and is that way since a few month. Attached a Screenshot. I´ve updated everything recently but it´s the same - Black photos.
Do you´ve got any idea how to fix it? I´ve tried a number of things, like copying the black photos somewhere else and duplicating them to see if it´s just a permission problem. But they stay black.
On the iPhone the black photos appear perfectly fine. They also can be imported manually via cable.
Cheers,
Thomas
Setup:
OSX 10.7.3
iPhoto 9.2.3
iOS 5.1

I seem to have eliminated the problem, at least for now, by rebuilding the library. So, if you want to try it yourself, this is the process I followed:
Check for iPhoto updates. If there is an update, download and install the update, then launch iPhoto in case it needs to update your library to the new version.
Quit iPhoto.
If you use Time Machine, have it back up your iPhoto library.
Make a copy of your iPhoto Library file. On my system it is located in /Users/[MyUserName]/Pictures. I just copied it to an external USB drive.
Rebuild your iPhoto library by following the instructions in http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2638. I only had to use the first rebuild option, "Rebuild the iPhoto Library Database".
Please "like" this if it helps.

  • Iphone 4 makes calls but screen is black and the power button doesnt work. never synced to computer or photo stream. I dont want to lose my photos

So, my Iphone 4 now has a black screen. Before it did this I unlocked the screen (which has a passcode) try to open instagram and the screen flashed and went black. I can make calls and it seems to send messages but I dont know for sure because the screen is black. The power button (sleep) does not work and when I try to reset the phone it makes a call. I never synced it to a computer or Itunes and I didnt start photo stream. I want to preserve the pictures because it has photos of family members that have passed. Is there a way to get the photos?? Help please!

If you have attempted the reset, which is holding the home button and sleep/wake button, was it still connected to the computer? Have you tried to do that when not connected. You stated it never came on, how long did you hold the buttons together? If you cannot get it to connect to iTunes then you would not be able to restore the device. You can see if you can put the device into Recovery Mode by following the instructions in this support document. If that does not work, then you are correct, make an appointment at the Apple Store. If you can't update or restore your iOS device

  • Some iPhone 4S photos imported via Photo Stream are black

I'm seeing a whole bunch of iPhone 4S photos imported via Photo Stream as black images in latest iPhoto '11.  When I look at the original file in finder, it is intact, however the modified one is just a black image (which is what shows up in iPhoto).
This is very concerning.  I'm now manually re-importing all my 4S photos.
Strangely, the same photos that appear black in iPhoto Photo Stream are fine on my iPad and iPhone Photo Stream view.
So it seems that iPhoto is breaking them when it imports them.

There are several possible causes for the Black Screen issue
    1. Permissions in the Library: Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Include the option to check and repair permissions.
    2. Minor Database corruption: Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild.
    3. A Damaged Photo: Select one of the affected photos in the iPhoto Window and right click on it. From the resulting menu select 'Show File (or 'Show Original File' if that's available). Will the file open in Preview? If not then the file is damaged. Time to restore from your back up.
    4. A corrupted iPhoto Cache: Trash the com.apple.iPhoto folder from HD/Users/Your Name/Library/ Caches...
    5. A corrupted preference file: Trash the com.apple.iPhoto.plist file from the HD/Users/ Your Name / library / preferences folder. (Remember you'll need to reset your User options afterwards. These include minor settings like the window colour and so on. Note: If you've moved your library you'll need to point iPhoto at it again.)
    If none of these help:
    As a Test:
Hold down the option (or alt) key key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Create Library'
Import a few pics into this new, blank library. Is the Problem repeated there?

  • HT201317 Pictures moved from Photo Stream to another Folder are pixelated.

I will add a picture to my photo stream and it shows up perfectly clear in the photo stream album. When I move it to the camera roll, it becomes pixelated and very unclear. This does not happen with all photos. How do I resolve this?

I am having this problem as well on random images, except it isn't evenly distributed pixiliation like on this example, but sections of totally black pixels.

  • HT201317 My photo's don't up in photo stream

My computer shows that I have 8.8 gigs of data to icloud, all I have turned on for icloud is photo stream but I can't find my photo's?  Please help

    Two things:
    1. I wonder if you delete a photo from the camera roll if it will just show up as a black box in the roll.
    2. I also wonder if you reset the phone if this fixes it
I have the those two issues at times, but if I reset my phone everything works fine. I have been trying to reproduce this state, but have never been able to on purpose. I don't know what gets it stuck this way, but once it happens the only way I have been able to get it to work right was to turn the phone off/on.
    Hope that helps...
Oh, when in this state I've also seen it not display pictures I had just taken in the camera roll. Again, if I reset the phone...poof...they are there.

  • Missing Photos in Photo Stream

I take pictures with my iPhone 4s and they go to my iPad just great but I only get about 50% of them to my MacBook Pro.  They are radomly not there.  There will be five or six that are there then 5 or 6 that are black no photo.  All the warythrough the 200 photos I took on my latest trip?  Is there any reason for this random messing up of photos?  Is there anyway of getting them on the MacBook short of syncing my iPhone 4s through iPhoto?  I am not liking this Photo Stream right now to many missing photos.
    Thanks
    Pat

Never mind, figured out the solution turn off Photo Stream in iPhoto them turn back on and all the pictures are there.

  • IPhone 4S Photo Library and Photo Stream Dead

Do these symptoms sound familiar to anybody:
I've been taking some short video clips on my iPhone 4S of a bathroom remodeling project.
    From the Camera app:
I can view those new videos just fine from the camera app, after hitting the ... not sure exactly what it's called:  the little thumbnail button on the lower left to view photos & videos you've shot on your iPhone.
Some of these recent videos, however, show up with an all-black thumbnail.
When I pop up the Photos app:
I can view previously-taken photos, videos, albums, events, etc.
When I touch "Camera Roll," the Photos app crashes.
When I touch "Photo Stream," the Photos app crashes.
In iPhoto on my Mac:Photostream shows only the photos taken before I started taking these videos.
When I plug my iPhone into iTunes/iPhoto on my Mac:It shows no photos at all on my iPhone, not even those shot long before.
I'm thinking about upgrading its OS to 5.0.1, to see if that ... knocks something loose.  It may, however, cause me to lose those videos entirely, and I can't transfer them to my computer, since it can't see them.  I have no idea whether an iPhone backup would for-sure back them up, since their very existence seems ... disputed (the Camera app sees them, Photo Stream doesn't, they crash the Photos app, etc.).

Well, upgrading to 5.0.1, on the Mac rather than directly on the iPhone, did appear to, back up, wipe the phone, and restore from the backup.  And:
The movies still appear in the Camera app, with no black thumbnails.
They do now show up OK in the Photos app's "Camera Roll."
They do not appear in Photo Stream.  Not quite true: One of them just now appeared.
They do appear as new photos in iPhoto when I hook up to the Mac.
All of my previous on-iPhone photos do appear as new photos in iPhoto
I took one new one photo and one new video, and I have seen the photo, but the new video has not yet appeared.  I don't see it on the iPad either.
Oh, is Photo Stream literally, exactly that:  Photo Stream?!  Videos don't get sent over the stream?

  • Trying to get particular order of images in Photo Stream in Subscribers playback

I'm new to Photo Streaming and would like some advice if someone can help, please.
I've created a shared photo stream on my iPhone 5 (iOS 7) and sent an invitation to a friend to view it. He doesn't have an iOS device,  so he has to view it via the public URL. However, we can see that the one and only video that I've included in the stream is positioning differently to how it appears in my photo stream on my iPhone. In iPhoto (from where my iPhone sources the images via syncing in iTunes) I manually positioned  the video at the end of the stills within its album, and when I play a slideshow from my photo stream on my iPhone the video appears at the end of the group where I intended it to be, but when my friend views the photo stream on line from his computer, either with or without using the slideshow, the video clip is still in the middle of the stills!
I tried deleting the photo stream,  going back into iPhoto on my computer and changing the video's title (to a number greater than the number of the last still in the album), then re-syncing via iTunes back to my iPhone, creating a new photo stream & re-inviting my friend, but this hasn't worked — the video is still appearing in the middle of the stills on his computer, (in the same original position it was taken on the camera).
Does anyone know why this is happening? Would appreciate advice, thanks.
(If the Subscribers choose to view the images via the Slideshow I would prefer the video comes at the end, rather than have it interrupt the stills)

It is a valid question, but I fear the safest way to get an answer is to try it.
Aperture understands some of the incamera settings, but not all. I never saw a list of exactly which settings it understands. The most striking example, in my opinion, is if you set the image to Monochrome picture control in the camera. Nikon software will see it as black and white, but Aperture will display the image in colour. As there is a sharpening associated with the picture control, I assume that sharpening will be ignored by Aperture.
If you find somewhere else to set the sharpening in the camera, it is possible that it will be understood by Aperture.

  • Thumbnails not appearing in My Photo Stream folder

When I open the "My Photo Stream" folder the pictures do not appear, just black squares with the titles or Image numbers.  If I click on the back square the photo appears.  Please tell me how I can get the thumbnail pictures back in "My Photo Stream."  Thank you. I am using iPhoto 9.5.1

Try to rebuild the thumbnails for your iPhoto Library.
Launch iPhoto with options-command keys held down. Keep holding down the keys firmly, until you are seeing the First Aid Panel.  Select "Rebuild Thumbnails".

  • Shared photo streams when changing devices

My daughter and I are swapping iPhone 5's (black & white).  I am curious what will happen to my photo streams and shared photo streams?  I am backing up via iCloud.  Will they be on our new devices after we restore or will we lose all of them.  Would the contents of the restore be any different if I backup/restore with iTunes?

Welcome to the Apple Community bgl.
    Photos in photo stream...
You can log into your iCloud account and enable photo stream to see your photo stream photos.
Photostream in the cloud only keeps photos from the last 30 days (subject to a 1,000 photo limit). When photostream syncs the photos to your device they will stay there (subject to a 1,000 photo limit) until deleted, which means you may well have more photos in your photostream album on your device than there are in photostream in the cloud.
The consequence of this is that if you turn photostream off and on again on your device (or enable it for the first time), it will only be populated with photos from the last 30 days, which may not be all the photos that were previously in the photostream album on that device.
    Photos in the camera roll...
If you kept a back up of your device you can use it to restore to a replacement device, this will restore all of the photos in your camera roll and isn't time limited.
Being able to back up to the cloud can be very useful, especially if you don't have access to a computer or have infrequent access to one, however unless you specifically need to use iCloud for back up, you will find backing up to iTunes significantly more convenient and possibly more reliable.

    From another forum:
You can go to any picture in your Camera Roll, select it and then copy it by pressing the Home button and the Sleep button. This will make a copy of the picture in your Camera Roll and send a copy up to iCloud.
Note that "send a copy up to iCloud" = add it to Photo Stream. I would further add that you will want to tap the screen of your ios device to make the "black navigation bars" at the top and bottom of the screen disappear before copying the photo or they will be copied also. Picture resolution may be less than the original.

  • HT201077 Viewing shared photo stream in web browser in slide show mode

The pictures in my photo stream used to fill the whole web page when in slide show view
now they sit in the middle of the page surrounded by a black boarder.
Can this behaviour be changed back to full page display?

If you are using iOS 7, open the Photos app on your iPhone, tap Shared at the bottom, tap Edit at the top, then tap the icon next to the album you want to delete.  If you only want to delete selected photos in it, tap the album, tap Select at the top, tap the photos you want to delete, then tap the trash icon at the bottom.

  • Aperture unable to connect to photo stream

Aperture 3 and Photostream were working fine for me but now it's not.  I think this started happing after Apple replaced the logic board and video card in my 2008 iMac.  I'm using Lion and all software is fully up to date. I have photostream enabled in the mac icloud settings and turn it on in the aperture settings. It spins for a while and then says "aperture was unable to connect to photo stream", which also then disables photo stream in the icloud settings.  I have uninstalled Aperture and all prefrences files using AppCleaner and reinstalled. I have also done some tricks which others have reported as working, such as logging out of icloud and then logging in as a different user and deleting preference files from ~/Library. I have also tried creating a fresh Aperture library.  So far nothing has worked.  If I look at the console I get a crash log caused by the PhotoStreamAgent that contains the following:

Well if this just started happening since the iMac was worked on by Apple you should contact Support. You should still be under warranty for the repair so they should take care of it.
