Black preview in PE 10 using recent nVidia drivers
Premier Elements 10 was working fine. Then I upgraded my nVidia drivers and after that the preview displayed only black video (audio was fine). Windows 7 and Quicktime are all up to date. Problem exists with all video file types to which I have access. I even downloaded some extra popular free codec packs, and still no workie. So I reverted back to nVidia driver 320.49, and the video preview came back again. This is not an unknown issue: http://forums.adobe.com/thread/1317675?tstart=0
I want to upgrade my video driver so I can use Shadowplay. First, has the above issue ever been resolved? Second, if not, can anyone speak to whether I'm going to have the same problem in the latest version of Premier Elements? I'm not sure I'm keen on the idea of forking over to Adobe another $100+ to resolve an issue that I consider an Adobe bug. If I'm forced to buy another product, perhaps I'll go with a different vendor. Any recommendations?

There is no fix to the Premiere Elements 10 NVIDIA video card issue other than roll back of the driver version to as far back as to when you no longer get the display issue. Neither NVIDIA nor Adobe has stepped forward to correct the problem.
This issue presents as specific for the Premiere Elements 10 NVIDIA users. We have not seen reports of this type of thing in any other version to date.
If you wish to continue with Premiere Elements 12, please go the free 30 day try out route before purchase.
The above is the situation as I believe it to exist to date.

Satellite P500-12D - Can I use the nVidia drivers?
The Latest NVIDIA Drivers on the Toshiba update website are 8.15.11.8642 but there are newer versions on the NVIDIA website. I would like ot update the NVIDIA Drivers but I am having difficalties.
I tried to install version 195.62 (Win7 64bit) for the Geforce 200M Series fron the NVIDIA SITE but the install doesn't complete. I get the message: "The NVIDIA Setup program could not locate any drivers that are compatible with your current hardware. Setup will now exit."
Does Toshiba only allow their own versions of the drivers? Is there a way to allow the NVIDIA drivers to istall?

Counter question: Why you want to use other display drivers? Are you not satisfied with the Toshiba drivers or can you notice any problems in Windows?
Theoretically its possible to use the drivers from nVidia directly but dont forget that they are not pretested on your notebook. Your graphic card could be overheating and so you will loose the warranty.
Satellite P500 is pretty new so I assume Toshiba will update the display driver in next time too. Just have a look on the page from time to time. ;) -
Using unbranded nVidia drivers with OC-edition MSI cards
Hello,
I'm using MSI GeForce 8800GT 512MB OC edition (NX8800GT T2D512E-OC) with branded MSI drivers.
Since MSI doesn't exactly release new drivers on daily basis (latest release - 175.16, 7/21) I was considering using unbranded drivers directly from nVidia.
I'd like to ask if there would/could be any performance decrease or any issues related to using unbranded drivers with my card.
My hardware retailer told me I *must* use branded drivers as it is an OC edition card, but he already stuffed me with bullcrap before so I'm asking here to confirm (or disconfirm, hopefully).
Thanks for any help in advance. You can use any drivers

For this new bashing about nvidia i personally have another view of this. But first i must say again that i use the nvidia drivers only on 2 pc (7500 and 4600) under arch linux and not on a laptop.
The story from my view is that the kde4 developers make a intensive use of a functionality which has never been used before in this way under linux and which was no problem for the original xorg drivers. I don't know what you works but if i would be the supervisor of the linux developers from nvidia than i would say that they have to test the driver even for the newest kernel and the newest xorg version but don't take a look for every beta or preview version of other applications which includes kde or gnome too. Employees don't works for nothing and so you have even to decide what you will do with your non-endless manpower. And if you look in the forum (http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/forumdisplay.php?f=14) you will see that nvidia have recognized the problem, works on it and have a new beta driver with a better support for this problem. What can a company do more?
So i'm a little bit surprised that people have impatience for at example that the kdepim suite 4.1 don't use the new akonadi framework but have no impatience to wait for a new stable nvidia driver under kde4. And still again, we speaks about the first "ready to use" version of kde4 which was released since a couple of days and not years. But this be only my 2c.
oh so you mean to say release a powerful product, i mean tout it as powerful with all the features and then dont release good enough drivers for it for months, maybe you are happy with that equation.
The expectation is to get what you paid for I am not a open source zealot, for all I care Nvidia can keep their source closed, but I am unwilling to wait for months to get the FULL functionality from my card when it is worth half its price. What is so crazy about asking for accountability from a corporations...is it so hard to fathom?
Oh yes I will keep pointing it out till I wish or till my card becomes OLD and when I have to buy a new one I will take this into account. As some would say oh Nvidia doesnt have to care about all this bitching they don't have to care about linux etc etc. I am speaking for myself I may be insignificant for nVidia but I am not happy.

[SOLVED] Extra resolutions for games with Nvidia drivers
When using the nouveau drivers, games and other such applications will allow me to select any resolution my screens (one 1920x1080, the other 1680x1050-- the latter of which is to the left of the first) will support, as well as 3600x1080, the combined total (spanning both screens). For instance, I can make something like Tux Racer 1280x800, and either windowed or fullscreen. However, with the Nvidia proprietary drivers, the only resolutions that I can select are 1920x1080, 1680x1050, and 3600x1080. This prevents me from playing windowed games in such a way that they don't cover my whole screen, or playing fullscreen games at lower resolutions for higher performance. How can I use the Nvidia drivers and the "extra" resolutions? (Ideally, all those listed in the Xinerama output below)
Xrandr outputs this:

Thanks. The first link worked, in the sense that my games now have all those resolution options, but now there's a new bug.
To future readers: a solution has been found for this bug as well, see below.
My metamodes setting now reads:
Option "metamodes" "CRT-0: nvidia-auto-select, CRT-1: nvidia-auto-select; nvidia-auto-select {ViewPortI n=1920x1080}; nvidia-auto-select {ViewPortIn=1680x1050}; nvidia-auto-select {ViewPortIn=1600x1200}; nvidia-auto-sele ct {ViewPortIn=1440x900}; nvidia-auto-select {ViewPortIn=1400x1050}; nvidia-auto-select {ViewPortIn=1280x1024}; nvi dia-auto-select {ViewPortIn=1280x960}; nvidia-auto-select {ViewPortIn=1280x800}; nvidia-auto-select {ViewPortIn=115 2x864}; nvidia-auto-select {ViewPortIn=1024x768}; nvidia-auto-select {ViewPortIn=832x624}; nvidia-auto-select {View PortIn=800x600}; nvidia-auto-select {ViewPortIn=700x525}; nvidia-auto-select {ViewPortIn=640x480}; nvidia-auto-sele ct {ViewPortIn=512x384}; nvidia-auto-select {ViewPortIn=400x300}; nvidia-auto-select {ViewPortIn=320x240}
Because I now have included a resolution whose height is 1200 (or so I suppose-- if I remove that part, the issue does not occur), this happens:
Xrandr output:
Screen 0: minimum 8 x 8, current 3600 x 1200, maximum 16384 x 16384
My X screen has the right length, but the wrong height! Now, my desktop seems to span the right area (3600x1080), but if I move my mouse to the bottom of that area, it pans down another 120 pixels. In that area, there's just graphical gibberish, often whatever I had on the screen last time.
If I use Xrandr to set my screens' output, it works again, butthere a solution within the Nvidia driver settings...
EDIT: It occurs to me that the setting seems to be taking the largest possible resolution for the X screen based on those metamodes.
EDIT 2: This is likely intended behavior. The proper virtual resolution (X screen resolution) may be restored by adding
Virtual 3600 1080
to the "Display" subsection under the "Screen" section.
I'll mark this as solved.
Here's my working xorg.conf, by the way. I've posted only the "Screen" section because that's all I've changed. The rest is in my first post.

Nvidia drivers not working, only nouveau
Hi I'm currently running Arch using the Nouveau drivers. I've had huge difficulty using the Nvidia drivers because arch for some reason didn't detect my cards. I have 750m SLI
Is there any known fix for this? I've searched and searched but all in vain.brick21 wrote:

Also for some reason my system only detects one of my GPUs using lspci -k | grep -A 2 -i "VGA", I have 2x 750m but it only displays 1
I'm assuming you've tried nvidia-340xx-lts? this one worked for me. Geforce GT 750M.
That's for the lts kernel... won't work if you use the regular "linux" kernel.
What kernel are you running OP? Also it would help to see the following
lsmod | grep nvidia
lsmod | grep nouveau
cat /var/log/Xorg.0.log
dmesg | grep nvidia -
Using Warp Stabilizer results in a black preview screen.
I have been trying continuously for the past two days to get Warp Stabilizer to work. It actually did work once, so I know it can. But mostly all I get after it has gone through the procedure is a black preview screen. Or no result, not seeming change at all, even though it has gone through all the steps! This is happening when I have selected the "No Motion" result, the "Smooth Motion" result seems easier to achieve.
I need something finished, and I am at my wits end. I have tried making the test bits shorter and shorter, because I saw on another forum a suggestion the the power of - or available space on - the pc might be the problem. But my laptop should be strong enough, it has been able to handle everything else I have thrown at it over the pas couple of years.Hello,
I tried Warp Stabilizer but, now I ma working with ProDAD Mercally V2. The problem I had were : freezing of Premiere Pro and "paste" of the video which followed the mouse. -
Yet another black screen on TTY with nvidia drivers
Hi everyone,
I've just changed my hardware and immediately installed a fresh Arch on it. Everything was fine until I installed the nvidia drivers: from that moment, once the boot is complete I get a normal (and working) GDM login screen, but I cannot switch to TTY with Ctrl+Alt+Fn. If I do, the screen goes black, but even worse, the monitor goes into sleep mode and I cannot get back to X (with Ctrl+Alt+F1).
The machine is still working correctly though, as I can get access to it via SSH. The only problem is that I cannot use the virtual consoles unless I want to lose all X display until the next reboot (restarting it via systemctl restart gdm doesn't work).
I also tried lightdm as a replacement but it's still the same.
However, when using the nouveau driver, everything works as expected and I can switch from one TTY to another as much as I want. Of course, I'd like to keep the nvidia driver for various reasons.
I found a lot of similar issues on the web and on this forum but none had this "additional little annoying thing" which is the sleep mode that can't be reverted but with a reboot.
Any help will be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Set up the BIOS in EFI or Legacy mode
Some recent computers (>2011) allow to set up the boot either in UEFI mode or in Legacy (not-EFI) mode. The way to carry out this setting depends on the computers, but generally this setting is located in the "Boot order" tab of the BIOS (to access the BIOS screens, it is generally necessary to press a key during the PC startup).
Note: Some BIOSes (e.g. American Megatrends' "Aptio", found on the Asus vivobook series) call Legacy mode "Compatibility Support Module" or simply "CSM".
So if that applies to your machine, you might be able to boot Windows7 with UEFI mode and Arch+Nvidia with Legacy BIOS mode, without changing anything to the installation (the BIOS boot loader seems to be compatible wih GPT partition table, but there is to configure something for it to work see https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/GPT#BIOS_systems).
If you can't do that and you really do not want to use the nouveau driver, you have no other choice than to wait for Nvidia to release an UEFI compatible driver, and not to work in tty console mode.
You can also try to search how some has succeeded to use the efifb frame buffer with the nvidia driver, with special configurations.
But, apart from the BIOS switch between boot loaders, the two easiest approaches for you are either to use the nouveau driver or to not work in tty console mode when using the nvidia driver.
Maybe you could find something better but it will be more complicated, I don't know if you have time and motivation to go this way...
Nvidia will surely release a UEFI compatible driver sooner or later...
Regards.

Hi,
Camera launched from app using UIImagePickerViewController shows a black preview, if there is any operation running in the background thread. This was not an issue in ios 6. Can you please fix this with next update?
Thanks & Regards,
Dileep KumarSome things that might help:
1. Only the most recently used apps actually occupy memory (used to be the most recent 4, but may have changed in the latest iPhones). After 4 (or so), IOS writes them out of active memory, as it does for even the latest 4 if there's no activity for a long time. So the business of closing all the open apps, apart from the most recent ones doesn't make a difference. Tis article has a good explanation:
http://www.speirs.org/blog/2012/1/2/misconceptions-about-ios-multitasking.html
2. There are settings about background app activity that might help:
- Settings, General, Background App Refresh controls which apps can update their data in the background
- Settings, Notifications controls which apps can tell you things, which they have to wake up to do.
- Settings, Privacy, Location Services controls which apps monitor your location - another activity that uses resources
Hope some of that helps -
Black Screen with Sound on OpenGL Apps (nVidia GeForce4 MX 440)
After a couple weeks of a non-stop search for a solution that has taken me through countless forums and Google queries, I've come to the realization that I need some help before I drive myself insane. I am running an old emachine T3065 with an AMD Athlon XP 2.167 MHz processor, 1024 MB of RAM, 160 GB HD, and a good old integrated (POS) nVidia NV18 GeForce4 MX 440 displayed on a widescreen Acer X191W LCD panel. I followed the instructions dictated in the nVidia installation wiki to a 'T', and can start GDM and log into Gnome without any conflict. Then when I attempt to launch a 3D OpenGL game or application, I'm stuck with a black screen where I can still hear sound (in fullscreen mode) or, in a few windowed programs such as foobillard and Google Earth, a three-dimensional shape without textures. As you can see, direct rendering is enabled. This left me fairly perplexed.
Issuing glxgears returned a smooth animation without error running at an average of 1750 frames per second. I then began toying with my xorg.conf settings by turning "RenderAccel" on and off, trying the different "NvAGP" ranges, etc. All without revealing a solution. Here is my current xorg.conf:

Perhaps the warnings pertaining to my monitor and ACPI are pertinent?
Is it possible that there is some kind of issue with my configuration and OpenGL textures since I can still see some non-textured 3D objects? Any help would be greatly appreciated, I am beyond frustrated with the matter. On a sidenote, in my latest issue of Linux Pro Magazine, I booted up a Sabayon live disc that game with the magazine and I had the same error except that a message blatantly said that I did not have OpenGL support. Anyway, I apologized if I rambled a bit and I hope that we'll be able to find a solution. Cheers!I guess I forgot to disclose that bit, haha. I'm currently using the 'nvidia-96xx' drivers which I thought were the correct set for the GeForce4 series. I recall reading that in a wiki somewhere, but I could be mistaken. I thought 'nvidia-71xx' was for GeForce2 and earlier.I really hope it is as simple as me installing the wrong driver.
-
Currently I'm using kernel26ck and because one of my graphics cards is a geforce4 I need to use the legacy nvidia drivers. nvidia-96xx and nvidia-96xx-utils was recently updated, but nvidia-96xx-ck was not, which creates a version error with nvidia module when starting X with kernel26ck. I see in the extra repostory the nvidia-96xx-ck is flaged as out of date.
So my question is.. Is kernel26ck and nvidia-96xx-ck no longer being maintained? Thanks! : )
I couldn't find any topics about kernel26ck going away any time soon, So I thought maybe this was the case. -
Can someone tell me whether the black preview bug is a known issue? I have the latest Aperture version 1.5.6 and am using Leopard. As soon as I make an adjustment my preview vanishes to black. If I turn the adjustment off it returns.
For Pro software this is not what I would expect, Leopard release or not. This is causing a serious disruption to my workflow. Does any one have any workarounds for this issue other than exporting everything to Photoshop and adjusting there? Some hit the problem, some don't. Some have reported it as "fixed" (i.e. no longer occuring) with subsequent Aperture or ProApps framework updates.
It seems to vary with the graphics hardware your machine has, and even sometimes according to what Colorsync profile you might be using. -

hi, my photoshop screen turns black as i try to use the transform tool
Welcome to the forum.
Can you please provide us with the version of Ps, and also your OS's version?
When the GUI goes black, or begins acting wonky, the first course of action is usually to trash the Preferences.
The second is to check the version of the video driver, from the nVidia, or AMD/ATI Web site, and download, then install the latest for you model of video card, for your OS version.
Good luck,

Multi GPU use with Nvidia and Radeon Card combined possible?
I know it's unlikely but does CC support the combined use of Nvidia and AMD graphics cards, mercury engine, cuda / opencl / multi GPU feature wise?
There's a lack of performance currently; especially when color grading. So we're gonna have to upgrade our macpro.
Current Setup:
Mac OS X Lion
3,33GHz 6-Core INTEL Xeon
24GB 1333MHz DDR 3 RAM
ATI Radeon HD 5870
Nvidia Quadro 4000
SSD Raid internal
SATA HDDs external
What's a good / better setup especially for color grading in Premiere (might switch over to SpeedGrade CC soon)?
We're gonna replace the Radeon HD 5870. Should we buy replace it with a NVIDIA Quadro K 5000 or a Radeon 7950 Mac Edition?
Thanks in advance!Get the K5000 if you need 10bit color preview. If you dont get the 680GTX Mac edition.

Preview quit unexpectedly while using the ImageCaptureCore plug-in.
Hi,
I get the following error...
Preview quit unexpectedly while using the ImageCaptureCore plug-in.
when I try to open a file in Preview. Same error occurs when I simply try to open Preview directly as well. It was working fine yesterday and prior to that. Haven't added any external devices or done any updates so I am not sure what happened. I did however download a game about two days ago called F18 Carrier Landing....could this be the cause....Any idea how to fix this? Thank you!
Janine
