Black Preview // No Picture in Premiere Pro CC 2014 // MCP Retina 15" (2013)

Dear fellow Premiere Pro users,
I am facing a problem recently.
When editing it quite often happens that the picture in the sequence monitor and preview monitor from one moment to the other just turn black and stay so until I restart the app.
I also witnessed a graphical distortion when using premiere. The screen "crashes" which means that it really looks like an electrically distorted pixel crash thing.
Both occurences do not depend on what kind of footage is used. It happens with DSLR footage as well as Blackmagic Material.
Both Problems do not seem to be connected to each other since they also appear seperately. But sometimes they pair up. Wehn that happens Premiere just freezes and I have to force quitting.
I assume that there might be a problem with the graphic processor or the graphic card or both.
Hardware and software check ups did not find any problems. I also have CUDA updated as well as all my other Adobe apps.
The system partition has more than enough free space and i care about my MCP not to get too hot.
Does anyone have that problem or can imagine what might go on inside the app or hardware?
Thanks for your efforts and time. Appreciate it!

Thanks for posting that info.  This mirrors the issues I'm seeing with DSLR footage.
It's so hit or miss if it's going to flicker.  I'll delete renders and re-render and certain clips will be fine, others are now flickering.  I tried to make a test project that demonstrated this issue, but couldn't reproduce the effect.  RGB Curves and Three Way CC are in my list of effects, as well, where I see the issue.
Just curious, is anyone else working on projects started in other versions/computers?  I've seen it on project started in PPro CC and finished in CC'14.  Saw it again on a project started on Mac in FCP7, converted to CC'14 Win7.  Quite honestly, I haven't been starting projects myself in CC'14 because of the flicker issues.
As a workaround, I was hoping to import the CC'14 project back into CC or Media Encoder CC, but no luck there.
Another issue I've had with CC'14 includes converting a CC project to CC'14, giving it to a CC'14 Mac user and the A/V sync is lost.  We abandoned that collaboration all together because of the issues.  CC'14 has been incredibly unproductive to my workflow, despite the great interface update and various other features added.  I haven't had mystery issues like this since CS4.  I'm keeping our post team in CC as much as possible until the issues are resolved.

  • Preview lag problem on Premiere Pro CC 2014

    Hi everything!
I have a big problem on Premiere, when I work on every type of file the Program monitor lag too much.
I can see one frame every few second!
    But the audio work well...
It seems that the computer have not enough power to show the video! And I have not modified or applied effect or transition!
I have got a MacBook Pro Early 2011 with the AMD Radeon HD 6750M (1024 MB) with the OpenCL 1.2 Engine, 2,2 GHz Intel Core i7-2720QM Quad Core (With Multithreading to 8 Core), 16 GB 1666 MHz RAM, with a Magnetic Disc (No SSD). The Machintosh is equipped by OS X Yosemite, reinstalled last week to try to fix the problem.
Before installing the CC 2014 I used the CS6 for 2 years without problem.
In Project Settings i have active the Mercury Playback Engine, and the other settings are not changed!
Someone had the same problem? Or know how to resolve? Because is not easy to use in this condition!
    Thank you very much, Andrea.

    Hi!
    Thank you for the answer!
My source footage is 1080 50p AVCHD (from Panasonic AC-AG160AEJ), but the problem is on every type of footage, because I tried with a 720 50p from a Canon EOS 6D and the ProRes 422 1080 25p of BlackMagic Production Camera 4K.
The problem doesn't change with the weight of the footage, with all of the footage type the problem is the same.
I use the original 7200rpm 750GB hard disk connected with the SATA interface. I think that is SATA 3 at 6 Gbit/s.
I have tried with all playback resolution possible (Full, 1/4 and 1/8) but the problem doesn't change, even if I change the resolution.
Unfortunately with the format of last week I lost the CS6...
I'm writing from Italy and I use the PAL standard!
I attach a video of the problem and a picture of my graphic card, if they are usefull!

  • Performance Issue Premiere Pro CC 2014 with Late 2013 Mac Pro

    Hi all!
Im working Premiere Pro CC 2014 on a Late 2013 Mac Pro 6 core D700s and 32GB RAM on OSX 10.9.4
After the 2014 update i have experience some drop frames and hangs with a new 1080p timeline project.
And it later results in software hang and crashing . even after a quit (force quit) and re-poen, it seems to happen again and again.
Even after a system reboot seems to be fine at first, but it still crashes on the project.
Tired to render the timeline and still the same. Also tried to delete rendered file and play right with timeline with yellow bar, same.
Even drop the preview playback to 1/2 and still..
files are mixed 1080p footage from Canon 5d3, 60D, T2i.
I have 3 layers (interview video with different angles) and a title layer (hard subtitle)
had some light color correction with fast color corrector and a sharpening on the 5d3 layer.
Ive work with the CC premiere pro before with mac pro and everything is fine and never hand an issue.
All my memory setting are set for performance and i have open GL on my D700s
Im not sure if this a software issue or someone my hardware is not working right?!
    Thanks in advance!

I am having the same issues.
Im working on a late 2012 iMac, 3.4 GHz Intel Core i7. 32 Gb ram, NVIDIA GeForce GTX 680MX, OS X 10.9.4.
I'm editing RED footage, about 3 TB worth for this project from a Promise Pegasus drive.
The software really slows down when using the TYPE tool and also when scrubbing through footage.
When I attempt to quite the software and restart, the interface goes away but the app is still running but says "not responding" when I attempt to force quit.
If you've figured it out since then Id love to know what works.
    Thanks!

  • After upgrading to Premiere Pro CC 2014, I can't change the render preview location

Ever since I downloaded Premiere Pro CC 2014, I cannot re-route my render preview files. I have two internal hard drives and I need the files to go to my secondary one. With CC, it did this just fine, but since I've upgraded to 2014, it will not do it. I've set it the same way I did before in Preferences/Media, then set the Media Cache Files and Media Cache Database to the new hard drive.  It's eating all my hard drive space and I cannot render or export a large sequence. Is there a trick to this I'm missing that has changed?

Thanks Neil! I'm actually wondering how to change where the preview files go. I've attached two screen grabs. Right now my media cache is going to my SATA drive (my smaller of my two internal hard drives and the drive where Premiere Pro is located.) I want to re-route my render files to go to my Macintosh HD drive which is much larger and gives me more breathing room. I could do that before but since I've upgraded to 2014, even though I have it set in preferences, it STILL goes to my SATA drive. So annoying! I'm wondering if I'm doing something wrong or if it's a bug. I'm still running Mountain Lion (getting ready to finally upgrade, I've just been needing to backup my computer), could this be the reason? Any ideas? Thanks so much for the help!

  • GoPro HERO4 Black - Editing 4K on Premiere Pro CC 2014.0.1

Hello, I'm new to the GoPro and we recently purchased a HERO4 Black.  I'm editing with Premiere Pro CC 2014.0.1 on a MacBook Pro, specs below:
    2.8 GHz Intel Core i7
    16 GB 1600 MHz DDR3
Graphics NVIDIA GeFore GT 750M 2048MB
    OS X 10.9.4 (13E28)
I have no issues playing back a 5K RED R3D file or a 4K mov file from a GH4 but I'm getting choppy playback in a Premiere Pro timeline from the GoPro's MP4's even at 1080 Superview.  Was wondering if there is something I need to be able to edit the native MP4 files or do I need to just transcode the files from the GoPro to ProRes to be able to work with them in Premiere Pro CC
Any ideas, help and/or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.  I have a beefy desktop PC at home with roughly the same specs and I'd like to test the footage there but the MacBook Pro and CC 2014 is my work setup and would like to figure this out for the work setup if at all possible.
    Thank you,
    -Erik

You can transcode them to Prores.
You can also download the free Cineform Studio software to convert to Cineform mov.

  • Premiere Pro CC (2014) does not show preview!?

    Hello there,
I've a serious problem. Premiere Pro CC 2014 does not respond in the preview monitor.
It's not like the program doesn't answer but it's only the way of working with footage.
I can't watch my footage but I can set in- and outpoint. I can't work because I can't see anything.
What's the matter? How can I fix this?
    Thanks

  • Adobe premiere pro cc 2014 - constantly crashing

Naturally, my project is under deadline..
My system is running OS X 10.9.4 (13E28)
    late-2012 MacBook Pro Retina
    2.6 GHz Intel Core i7
    16GB 1600 MHz DDR3
    Intel HD Graphics 4000
    NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M
    768Gb Flash Hard Drive
My project consists of DSLR footage (h.264 compressed files) and Zoom H4N Audio (.WAV files)
Even after spending most of Thursday and Friday on the phone with Adobe support; deleted all files from media cache, re-imported project, waited for premiere to re-conformed footage, etc..
...I still find my project loading sluggishly.. like it takes 15 minutes until video clips in the sequence will fully loads & appear in the project window... it becomes momentarily operable before quickly becoming inoperable as the video and audio no longer playback or respond to the cursor.
At that point  (when playback no longer works) I can still save the project.
It seems as though the software loses the dynamic link between the footage as it completely goes black.
Then when I try to exit Premiere CC 2014.. the program locks up and crashes with no report.
The crash reports I have are from a few days ago when they first began and before they stooped generating reports.
    Majority of the errors were:
    Exception Type:  EXC_BAD_ACCESS (SIGSEGV)
    Exception Codes: EXC_I386_GPFLT
It also crashed a few times with the following errors:
    Exception Type:  EXC_BAD_ACCESS (SIGSEGV)
    Exception Codes: KERN_PROTECTION_FAILURE at 0x00007fff5fbfdef0
    Exception Type:  EXC_BAD_ACCESS (SIGSEGV)
    Exception Codes: KERN_INVALID_ADDRESS at 0x0000000000000018
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

First I must say.. ADOBE PREMIERE PRO CC 2014 is glitchy as hell (and in my three weeks editing a documentary or rather two weeks bc I lost an entire week due to this issue) I have come to learn and identify some workaround solutions..
Here is what I originally wrote after speaking to five different Adobe engineers...
It is only an issue with PrCC2014 and the temporary solution before the upcoming update is to...
    1) Go into Preferences... Audio... and UNCHECK the box next to "Maintain pitch while shuttling."
[this is a new feature in PrCC2014 that is processor intensive, causes audio dropouts, and is a major player in why the playback suffers]
    2) Go into your sequences settings for each sequence you have for DSLR footage and change the Editing Mode preset to "CUSTOM"
    3) Next scroll down to Video Previews and change the preview file format to "QuickTime" and the codec to "Animation."
    4) Uncheck the box  next to "Composite  in Linear Color (requires GPU acceleration or max render quality).
[this is another new feature that is also processor intensive & is also a key suspect to the problem]
THE KEY TO FIXING (temporarily) THE BEHAVIOR
When your computer begins to show signs of the glitchy - sluggish playback behavior..
Stop.. go back into your SEQUENCE SETTINGS and change it to a different EDITING MODE (only temporarily) and click OK.
You could change yours from ProRes to CUSTOM (as indicated in step #3)
Next a prompt will pop up asking you...
Click okay then immediately go back to SEQUENCE SETTINGS and change it back to your original setting, in your case, ProRes.
Somehow, by DELETING those PREVIEW FILES it essentially resets the issue... until the dreaded glitchy behavior returns.
I have had luck with this trick and hopefully you will too..
    Cheers!

Import non transparent PNG similar size - no instant crash, can add transitions, but crashes within 2 mins
Import video sequence - instant crash on preview in media browser
Create colour matte - instant crash

  • Importing .psd into Premiere Pro CC 2014

I am trying to import a Photoshop file (.psd) into Premiere Pro CC 2014.  I've watched all these tutorials and they make it look so easy using Import > Adobe Photoshop file and then it appears in the source monitor--it seems to be the same as well on their tutorials.  However, my .psd file which needs to have white font and does in Photoshop comes up as different color (black) and is much smaller.  I am doing this in a 4K sequence, I understand the dimension aspect, but when I try to import I set as Single Layers and it doesn't matter--black font again.  Is there something I am doing wrong in PS or PP or both?  I would really appreciate your feedback because I'm in a rut and nothing seems to work.  The Photoshop file is one that was preloaded for this band but it just does not import correctly.  Any other options for getting a Photoshop file into Premiere Pro CC 2014 or AE.  I also tried this in CS6 and was hoping to just copy and paste into CC 2014.  I can't believe it is this hard.  I must be doing something wrong especially since everyone else seems to do it so easy.  Thanks for you help.

  • Adobe Premiere Pro CC 2014 Crashing very often! Please Help!

    Hello,
I am currently editing my first feature on Adobe Premiere Pro CC 2014 and it is currently up to date.
I am editing on a iMac 27in, late 2013 brand new computer.
Processor: 3.5 GHz Intel Core i7
    Memory 32GB 1600 MHz DDR3
Graphics: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 780M 4096MB
    System: OSX Yosemite V 10.10.1
The project is located on a 8TB G Drive
    7200 RPM
    High Performance ThunderBolt drive.
    Details of the project:
I am currently working on a fine cut of 5K Red Footage that is being cut in the RAW.
I work at 1/2 quality settings and have no lag.
The timeline includes limited stacked video files and various mp3 audio files.
    The Problem:
Lately, the program will randomly quit or freeze up 4-5 times during an 5-6 hour edit session.
Many times it is random, however, it seems to happen often if I accidentally click on the end of a clip on the timeline and it goes to switch into trimming mode.
Also, it will randomly go into the "pinwheel of death" out of nowhere followed by "Adobe CC is not responding."
My project file is just about 15MB now.
What is causing this reoccurring problem?
How can I make it happen less?  I have scoured the forums and found similar articles but no helpful solutions.
I have recently turned auto save on to save every 2 minutes because there have been more than one occasion where I lost A LOT of work because of this issue.
I am about two weeks out from picture lock delivery and this issue is driving me crazy and loosing me a ton of time.
Please help or let me know if any more additional information can help solve the issue.
I have sent in well over 25 error reports already.
    Thanks,
    Thomas.

I think I may have found the solution...
I completely removed the Premiere Pro folder under User > Documents > Adobe and so far it seems to have solved the problem.
I of course backed up my projects and than deleted this folder. So far it seems it worked.
I'll know for sure in a day or two, but after constantly crashing, Premiere hasn't crashed for the last 4-5 hours of work.

  • Flicker footage in Premiere Pro CC 2014.2. Tested on different computers. When waiting for fixes this bug?

Flicker appears solely the fault of Premiere Pro CC 2014.2. Tested on different computers. Used as nVidia Quadro and GeForce GTX770. Drivers were different. Everywhere equally evident flicker. Incidentally, it defies logic and may occur at different film pieces. If re-render that flicker may occur on another spot in the video.
It can occur even in the parts without filters !!! But no all time.

When waiting for fixes this bug?

    Hi Aleksey,
Flicker appears solely the fault of Premiere Pro CC 2014.2. Tested on different computers. Used as nVidia Quadro and GeForce GTX770. Drivers were different.
Have you tried with the Mercury Playback Engine set to "Software Only?" More info please: FAQ: What information should I provide when asking a question on this forum?
Everywhere equally evident flicker. Incidentally, it defies logic and may occur at different film pieces. If re-render that flicker may occur on another spot in the video.
Is this a brand new project or one you updated from an earlier version? What kind of footage are you exporting? Which preset are you using?
When waiting for fixes this bug?
If I can repeat the case here with the same hardware, GPU, and drivers, that would be easier to fix the bug. Currently, I cannot recreate the bug.  If you or anyone else can provide me with steps to recreate the bug, that would help immensely. It sounds like this will be the difficult thing.
    Thanks,
    Kevin

  • Why does Premiere Pro CC 2014 renders incredibly slow?

    Dear Premiere Pro experts
I created a movie with Adobe Premiere Pro CC 2014 and I have serious performance issues when it comes to export the movie.
The first 10% renders pretty fast and takes 1 hour. Then it takes for every additional 1% about 4 hours! (never rendered it to finish so far, 14% max so far)
Here are some facts that might help to isolate the problem:
    Project:
Length: 24 minutes in total, splitted into several sequences (up to 4 minutes) and arranged on a "main-sequence"
Input: Cineform AVI files, 1080p, 59fps (I converted GoPro 3+ footage (3D!) using GoPro Studio to the Cineform format for further processing)
Desired Output: Same as input, preserving 3D (Render 3D Intermediate)
Effects used: Warp-Stabilizer (default settings) and Auto-Color (smoothing 1-2 sec) on almost every clip.
    Hardware / Software:
    i7-3770K @3.5 GHZ (Quadcore)
    16 GB RAM
NVIDIA Geforce GTX 970 (also tried with a ATI Radeon R9 290X)
    Windows 8.1
SSD for OS and programs, RAID 0 for media files and project, separate drive for rendering output.
Then I tried to render using AME using the same settings. The whole video rendered in about 14 hours what is acceptable in my case. There problem here is that the 3D gets lost, even if I selected "Render 3D Intermediate". The picture for the left eye is the same as the one for the right eye. This is not happening when I do a direct export. But the direct export get almost stuck at around 10%.
There is almost no difference in choosing Software-Rendering and GPU. Also, the GPU has almost no load. Premiere Pro uses the CPU for about 45% (total usage 65%) and takes up 5-9 GB of memory (total usage 65%). Disk usage at around 14b/s.
I think there are two problems. One is that AME renders differently (no 3D) and the other is that the direct export takes way too long.
Can someone help me with any of these problems?
    Thank you,
    Martin

I did some additional research and found out, that the slow rendering happens with this combination:
    - Auto-Color using Temporal Smoothing
    - Render 3D Intermediate
Without rendering the 3D intermediate, Temporal Smoothing is not a problem. And without temporal smoothing, Rendering 3D Intermediate is not a problem.
Might this be a problem in the codec or in Premiere?

  • ICanon C100 playback issue premiere pro cc 2014

I am having playback issues in Premiere Pro CC 2014 with footage shot on my Canon C100 (29.97 fps).  It was happening after doing a straight import and creating a sequence using "new item".  Then, after reading some other threads here and elsewhere,  I interpreted the footage so premiere would see it as progressive (no fields) rather than interlaced, but that doe not seem to help.  It is even doing it when I play at 1/4 resolution.  The only solution seems to be to quit and restart and reopen the project.  Then it works temporarily for a little while but not long enough to actually edit.  I have done projects in Premiere with C100 footage in the past and have not experience this level of difficulty.
My Media Cache is not going to the startup diskc(it is gong to the right place)
I am on a Mac 2.66 Ghz Quad-Core Intel Xeon
    OS X 10.8.5
    10GB 1066 MHz DDR3
NVIDIA GeForce GT 120 512 MB
Please help - very frustrated.  If the solution is to transcode, it sort of kills the value of premiere in many ways.
