Black print cartridge only, hp 5652, windows 7

Hi.
Why can't we select "Black print cartridge only" for printer "hp deskjet 5652" in windows 7 (64bit)?
In "Preferences" we see this:
Finishing -> [x] Print on both sides
Color -> [x] Print In Grayscale
[ ] Black print cartridge only <<<<<<<Greyed out when "Print on both sides" is selected. WHY?
In windows xp this setting was available.
I did a test, printing out this image first in XP then in Win7:
http://www.cerquit.com/blogs/image.axd?picture=mvpArchi.PNG
In win xp we can select "Black print cartridge only", even when doing double side printing.
The print came out perfect, no colours were used.
In Win7 we are forced to use "High Quality" when we select "Print In Grayscale". The result was terrible, since my color toner is almost empty, and COLORS WERE USED IN PRINT even though we selected "print in greyscale".
So how can we enable "Black print cartridge only" in windows 7 for this printer when doing "double sided printing"?
Thanks.

soooooooooo..can anyone help with this? Isn't this official HP printer forums? Are any "hp support people" posting on this foum?
Where should I forward this question if I don't get any feedback here?
Thanks.

  • Black Print Cartridge Only Printing

I program my computer for the C7180 to print using the black print cartridge only, but it still uses ink from the color cartridges while printing in grayscale.  How do I get the printer to use only the black print cartridge?

I don't have this kind of printer. However, intuitively, the "brute force technique" should work as in the case of my DeskJet F2480: please remove (if possible) the color cartridge from the printer and then try printing.
Additional advice: please carefully check all the available settings of the program from which you are printing. I can guess that there can be some commonly used settings you see just having pressed "Print", and also some "Advanced" ones, etc...

  • In the C309, How can I use just the regular black ink cartridge only?

    Hi
I just bought a HP C-309 a short time ago.  I bought a HP reg black cartridge XL quite quickly.  This thing is a sweet
machine, works perfectly, but is a terrible terrible ink hog.
Had I known, I would have gone for the Kodak which touts much lower ink costs.
I only use this thing for documents.  I do not want to keep putting color cartridges in.  They are all on low except for the black XL cartridge.  How can I set it up to use only this cartridge for black and white..and just leave the color ones on empty.
I will have to get rid of it if I have to keep feeding it this way.  The ink levels seem always low.  By the way, the help asks me for model number.  They want to know whether it is 309n or 309g.  I see no way to find out..no notations on machine or purchase documents.  HP, if  you need this info...make it easy for the consumer to FIND the info...gheesh!

    Hi   lyn1360
There are several circumstances when color ink may be used—primarily to improve print quality, and sometimes to improve printer reliability—even if the document appears to be only black text-and-graphics. Many HP printers utilize chemical interactions to improve the quality and permanence of plain paper black text-and-graphics by adding small amounts of color ink to certain black areas. Some dark images which look black to human eye may contain a combination of black and color inks. For black and white images and photos or grey black which we think as black, a blend of colors called "composite black" may be used to achieve significantly better image quality and smoother gray tones than can be accomplished with black inks alone. Some inkjet printers utilize pigmented black ink, which is incompatible with some inkjet photo paper. In this case, dark or black areas are made up of color inks.
For users who wish to print utilizing just black ink (despite the reduced print quality), many HP printers offer options. For example, a driver color setting (by selecting "print in grayscale with the black cartridge only" in printing preferences) specifies printing using only black ink. In addition, many IPH printers can operate in "reserve mode," which allows the user to continue to print with just the black cartridge when the color cartridge is removed or not installed. In HP IIC systems like your printer C309, all supplies are required to be installed in the printer for the printer to function.
To find the correct model number for your printer, you can just open the carriage access door and on the right side you can see the model number. For OJ Pro printers, we need to open the cartridge access door on the front left side to see the model number.

  • Can I use the black ink cartridge only, & quit replacing the color cartridge when it's empty?

I have an HP Officejet 6210 all in one printer that takes color ink (#95) and black ink (#94).   I only want to print in black and white.   The color cartridges are more expensive and since I don't want to use them, I don't want to replace it.  Can I have the printer bypass the color cartridge (and the notifications that come with an emply cartridge) so it will allow me to use the black cartridge (#94) only and let the #95 sit there empty?  (ie it tries to print from there and I get the blank sheets...want to default it to the black ink cartridge 100% of time.)  I waste too much money on ink and wish to use the cheaper cartridge (#94) always.

Can't agree more. HP's strategy of getting more sells of its cartrige is notorious. It really drives consumers away. I am ditching my HP printer and getting a Brother instead.

  • Black printer cartridge Office Jet 4500

Referr to device documentation to troubleshoot: print cartridge problem (black)  Officejet 4500
Changed cartridges and prints a few times and comes up again.

Hi MJDillman , and welcome to the HP Forums.
I see you are experiencing cartridge issues. I would like to help.
I would recommend removing the ink cartridges, and perform a power reset. Disconnect the power cord from the printer and the power outlet, then wait 60 seconds. After 60 seconds, plug the printer back in. Ensure you plug the printer directly to a wall outlet. Make sure to bypass any sort of surge protector or power bar.
I would also recommend following this document on an 'Incorrect Print Cartridge' or 'Print Cartridge Problem' Message Displays on the Computer.
Good luck and please let me know the results of your troubleshooting steps. Thank you for posting on the HP Forums!

  • Installing black print cartridge in HP Photosmart C4280

I've tried to install 3 new black cartridges.  Each time I get an error message that says, "Print Cartridge Incorrectly Installed."  When I replace the empty cartridge, that message disappears.  I know I am installing the new ones correctly!  Please HELP.

@ Gordon-B -  Thanks for the response. If one has done the cleanings and the other steps listed in the above links n the last post, one would want to replace the cartridge in the printer as it might be faulty. If after one has done that; they find that the print quality is still not producing the desired results, one would be looking at product replacement.

  • Black printer cartridge not printing

I installed a new black HP cartridge, and it does not print at all, despite the fact that the test of ink level shows that it is full.  I tried running the "CLEAN PRINTHEAD" function and the "ALIGN PRINTER" function but neither did anything to solve the problem.
    Thanks for any assistance.

    Hello,
It seems to be an issue with the printhead which is an internal and non replacable part. Hence the printer need to be SERVICED.

  • How can I print using only the black ink cartridge?

I have a officejet 4620 that I need to know how to set up to have the option of using the black ink cartridge only. I rarely ever use color ink and I dont want $30 worth of color ink to dwindle away while printing pages that do not need any sort of quality printing. How can I change this setting? I have a Mac and there are hardly any options when trying to print anything.
    Thanks!

Hello @downeyke , and welcome to the HP Forums!
I understand you are looking into black ink options.  I would love to try and help you, but I do need a little information first. I am linking an HP Support document below that will show you how to find which version of the Mac operating system you are using.  With this information we can provide you with accurate information.

  • C6280 not printing with Black Cartridge Only

Under Color selection the program used to give 2 selctions for Black Ink Printing.
    1.  High Quality
    2.  Black Ink Cartridge Only.
Recently it only gives one selection and that is High Quality.
MY HP  program is up to date.
Will appreciate any help on this.

Nope, its not a bug.  When you choose borderless the print region actually becomes bigger than the page to make sure there are no white gaps.  The ink that does not make it to the page is caught in a trough filled with foam just below the print zone.
The color ink is a dye ink (like food coloring).  The black ink is a pigment ink - like carbon dust suspended in water.  When it is over-sprayed in the trough it piles up until the pile of pigment starts dragging and smearing on the back of every subsequent page!  Not good, so we do not allow the black cartridge to print when set to borderless.

  • Deskjet 6122 print with only black cartridge?

I got this oldy but goody through the local Freecycle list (with two sets of full ink!) after finding out it works with Linux and that openprinting.org lists it as working perfectly. Plug and play setup with Ubuntu 14.04, recognized instantly.
I think it's indicated just by the old school type print cartridge/head, but I should be able to use this one with the black ink cartridge only right? I know newer ones will force you to have both. I like that the cartridge prices for this one are very economical too.
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

The Deskjet 6122 requires an electrically sound black and color cartridge to be installed in the printer to allow printing.  It is not necessary to have ink in all the colors, but both cartridges must be installed.

  • Using black ink cartrige only when receiving faxes

I have an HP 6600 Deskjet printer in my office.  it is used primarily as fax machine.  I go through quite a few color cartridges.  Have found this puzzling since faxes are black and white.  Was told by rep a Office Depot that is was because all color cartridges are being used to make the black ink for faxes.
Is there any way to set fax option to use black ink cartridge only?  Thank you.

    Hello!
    Welcome to the forums @carperwm
I understand you are looking to see if you can use black ink only when printing out faxes, with your Officejet 6600.
Unfortunately you cannot, as the ink system will continue to work all together to print out the faxes.
However, you can choose to print in black ink only from your computer, check out these guides for help on changing the settings:
Changing Print Settings in Mac OS X
Changing Print Settings in Windows 7

  • Will Black Print if Color is Out on LaserJet Pro M252dw

If any of the color ink cartridges are empty, can I still print in black or in any of the other colors that are not empty?

Hi , Welcome to the HP Support Forums! I see that you're wondering when the colour ink is empty, if you can continue to print in black on your Color LaserJet Pro M252dw Printer.  I would be happy to look into this for you.
When the colour cartridge has been depleted, you will need to replace in order to continue printing. I would review this guide for more details, Change the cartridge message settings. Follow these steps to change how the printer responds when the cartridge levels are very low. NOTE: Once the HP print cartridge reaches Very Low, the HP Premium Protection Warranty ends and your print quality might be poor.Touchscreen displayOn the printer control panel's Home screen, touch Setup ().Touch System Setup.Swipe the touchscreen to scroll to Supply Settings, and then touch Black Cartridge or Color Cartridges.Touch Very Low Setting.Select one of the following options:Stop: Sets the printer to stop printing when the cartridge reaches Very Low.Prompt: Sets the printer to stop printing when the cartridge reaches Very Low. At that time, you must acknowledge the prompt or replace the cartridge to resume printing.Continue: Sets the printer to display an alert that the cartridge is Very Low. The printer automatically continues printing beyond the Very Low state. This can result in unsatisfactory print quality.Print Black (color cartridges only): Sets the printer to print with black toner when a color cartridge reaches Very Low.Try to print the job again.I hope this answers your question. • HP c7180 Printer - Black prints blurry but color is okay

    Aloha,
I have an HP c7180 printer and have recently had a problem where the black cartridge prints blurry and with lines through the print, but the color prints fine.  I tried cleaning the printhead and aligning the printer, but these did not work.  I also bought a brand new HP 02 black printer cartridge put the problem still exists.  Anyone have any ideas on how to go about fixing?  It's my last ditch effort before tossing the thing :-)
    Thanks for your help!

I am interested if you find out what is causing this, as I have the same situation.  One or two lines are fuzzy in the black, and it appears the top half is offset from the bottom half on only two lines of text in the entire page.
