Black residue recurring at top of MBA screen

I bought my MBA back in February and starting very soon after, a black, graphite like residue seems to be recurring just right and left of the iSight camera. It's not dirt, it will appear while the laptop is closed and create a black line across the button of the trackpad. I can wipe it off, but it just recurs again if I close the laptop after use. It stays in a very clean environment, so again, it's not dirt. Any ideas?

My MBA had this problem as well. I think it is caused by the screen bezel scraping against the trackpad button and palm rest. To prevent any further scratching, I bought the Protection Pack Deluxe from Marware (http://www.marware.com/PRODUCTS/MacBook-Air/MacBook-Air-Protection-Pack-Deluxe)

Chrome shows a black bar at the top of the screen?

Hi, I have been using Chrome on my PC for ages and never had an issue with it, but I've noticed on my iMac that it has this black bar at the top of the screen (see screenshot). It makes it impossible to see the top and bottom of websites because the bar blocks them out.
Anyone else having this problem/know how to fix it?

Completely uninstall ALL Google software per the instructions on Google's website. Currently, all Google apps, especially Chrome and Drive are not playing well and are NOT 100% compatible/compliant with OS X Mavericks. Until Google releases a fix or update for OS X Mavericks, completely uninstall all Google apps.
I been seeing more recent posts about users having issues with both Mavericks and Google Chrome.
If you do not like Apple's Safari Web browser, as an alternative, try using Mozilla FireFox. Mozilla constantly updates FireFox and just released a new update recently and FireFox is much more stable on OS X Mavericks.

How do I get rid of this black line across the top of my screen...

There is this black line that stretches about midway across the entire top of my screen... I read something about reseting my PRAM and I did that but it didn't remove the line... any insight on what is wrong with it and what needs to be done??

Firefox on my wife's laptop has lost the black bar that used to show Maps, Gmail etc. Now at the top of the screen there is a blank bar, triple height, with just the Google search input box. How do I get this back? Or is this a question for Google?

When I open Firefox there is a black bar, sometimes vertical, other times horizontal, across the top, with links to Maps, Gmail etc. When I open Gmail the same links are listed across the top of the screen, right under the Tabs. In my wife's laptop this appears in the Firefox start-up screen, but not in the Gmail screen. At the top of her screen is a super-wide gray bar with just a Google search input box. Is this a Firefox or Google problem?

Unplug any peripherals you have except your keyboard, reboot, and check activity monitor for apps. Keep running apps to a minimum to find the App causing the issue.

It likely means there was still water inside it and something has now shorted out and permanently damaged one or more components. THE very worst thing you can do with wet electronics is energize them - even a small drop of water inside on any of the circuitry or electrical contacts can cause catastrophic damage.
Take it to Apple for a free evaluation, but most likely you will need to replace it. For the out of warranty fee ($269.00 USD) you will get a refurbished replacement (like new, with a factory new screen and battery). An out of warranty replacement will also re-instate your remaining warranty, or 90 days warranty, whichever is longer.

I believe your problem may be that the monitor is not compatible with Win 8.1. The only updates that are available are for Win XP and Vista. You can find this information in the link that I provided under the section titled "Software Update".

Hi, vik4290. Glad to see your post here. What exactly happens to your phone prior to this? Is it also visible when the phone is turned off?
Try adjusting the Brightness & the Colour profile by going to Settings > display. You may also check if the phone's system settings are updated: Settings > Applications > store > check for updates.

Why am I getting a black box in the corner of my screen saying in part, GCLI is an experiment to create a highly usable----?

Black streak appearing on top left

I have a slight black line on the top left of my iMac 21.5" screen. It looks like there is something pushing up against the screen. never noticed it until yesterday and now I can't stop looking at it. Also have tried to wipe the screen and it is not a cosmetic. Does not come across too good in the photos but trust me it's a lot more visible in person. Does AppleCare cover this?

LCD panels have problems with something called image persistence, which is a little like burn in on a CRT, except it happens a lot faster in an LCD, and it also goes away after a short while. It looks like you may have had an area of dark content displaying there for a few minutes and now against neutral colors the persistence is showing through. Try opening a blank page in Safari or TextEdit and maximizing it for a few minutes and see if you still see the black area.

If this doesn't fix your image problem, by all means, Apple should cover the cost of installing a new LCD as this should be considered a defect.

Unneeded Black Scan Lines at Top While Capturing

Capturing my anamorphic mini-DV footage was borderless earlier this year when I edited a wedding video. But now two more 16:9 projects shot this same way have a black line at the top of the picture during capturing AND in the export. It's annoying because I don't know if the images are slightly squeezed flat or if the picture is shifted down off-screen a bit.
This happens in both my Final Cut Studio and my Avid Media Composer, and the annoying black line at the top even shows up on YouTube, argh!
Aside from bringing in my camera, external drive and precious field tapes to the Genius Bar, how do you troubleshoot something like this?

Issues with your monitor image behaving unexpectedly can be pretty worrying but I feel that these instructions from the following article should provide some help:
Apple computers: Troubleshooting issues with video on internal or external displays
Reset the system
You can reset the Mac's parameter RAM and SMC.Reset the resolution
Start by resetting the Mac's parameter RAM. If the display does not come up, was previously set to an unsupported resolution, and still results in no video:
Start up in Safe Mode.
From the Apple () menu, choose System Preferences.
Choose Displays from the View menu to open the preferences pane.
Select any resolution and refresh rate that your display supports.
Restart your computer.
