Black Sceen When Booting up my eMac

Does anyone know how to fix a BLACK SCREEN when booting up an eMac?  The screen is totally black and the computer essentially gets stuck on this state and is unusable.
Thanks,
BESTFAMILY

Hello, does it sound like it's booting up at all?
What happens or shows if you hold Shift key or option key at bootup?
Have you done a PRAM reset, CMD+Option+p+r...

In fact, do 3 in a row, takes a bit of time.

I have 970 GAMING w/ FX8320, it shows black screen when boot on cold start, have to clear CMOS everytime to enter default.
I have updated it to the up to date M11 bios. Once it boot up, it functions OK no matter whether you reboot or reset it. But after turned off a few hours (cooled down), it shows on black screen again on boot, all LED lights up OK, but I can hear the fan like keep rebooting, any idea?
    PSU seasonic 430W, GPU HD7750.

In what DIMM slots did you insert your memory?  I just got and at this moment building a new computer with a 970.
A horrible experience I had with my last build reminded me of it.  My board was am MSI A88XM-E45.  DIMM1 is blue, DIMM2 is black, DIMM3 is blue, & DIMM4 is black.  When using two sticks of RAM, it says to install one on DIMM1 & the other in DIMM3 (Makes sense... After all, it's color colored that way).
Well it would not boot.  I reseated every component and for HOURS tried almost everything.  Finally I decided to place my two sticks of RAM in the first two DIMMS and viola!
I think I will begin this build the same way.

  • T440s with Windows 8.1 (and BitLocker) - 1 ot of 3 times gets black screen when booting

We have a case on a machine with original "Lenovo Windows 8" installed. Windows updated to 8.1 and the latest patches. System update is up to date.
Aprox 1 out of 3 times, when booting, after entering the BitLocker PIN, the Windows loading screen is shown in 1-2 seconds, and the the screen goes black. But the machine is moving forward, because the fingerprint lights up and the user is able to log in using that.
(The machine was even able to print a document that was sent to the printer when the machine was offline.)
Have tried to disable fingerprint without any success.

    I have the same problem.
After trying and failing many times, I worked out that disabling my nvidia card was the only successful solution.
This will then allow the intel graphics chip to work on its own.
Something is wrong with the communication with the USB Dock and the nvidia card! I am hoping a workaround that allows me to keep the nvidia card switched on will be found by someone...

  • 30 secondes black screen when booting in P67A-GD65 ?

    Hello.
When i turn on my computer that has a P67A-GD65 with a 2600k it cpu and the 1.J bios,
i immediatly have a black screen with a cursor blinking in the upper left and in the bottom right, i have codes like B4 then another one 9something and then 92
this last for more than 30 secondes and then the pc boots ok.
Do you know what is the problem and how to fix it ?
    Thank you

Kind of hard to troubleshoot when all we know is the mainboard, CPU, and UEFI/BIOS is in the system. Could be a USB device or a RAM problem. Was this a working system at any time? OS loaded in IDE or AHCI Mode?

  • Monitor blacks out when booting with KVM Switch in the middle

    Hi
I have attached my Xserve with an iMac G5 to a KVM Switch. When I boot up the Xserve the monitor blacks out after the apple logo.
I know that the Xserve tries to autodetect the monitor. Apparently it fails in its job when the KVM is in the middle. Everything works well when I remove the KVM and connect the monitor directly to Xserve.
Any ideas how do I disable the monitor autodetect feature - or something?
Xserve (intel) Mac OS X (10.4.1) dkvm-4u KVM switch

    Hi all
I did try that. No luck.. Strangely enough, I realized that when the server boots up, the login screen defaults to 85HZ refresh rate. I found a site that explains the plist file that you can change to force it to 60HZ. What is weird it if I boot the Mac connected to another LCD, then move the cable to the KVM, it works. It almost seems like when the mac is booting, it sends some sort of signal just before the login screen comes up, that screws up this KVM. Tried updating firmware, still in the process of speaking with the KVM support people...
    very strange..

  • Black screen when booting to Windows 7

I am running a macbook pro and have just installed windows 7 using bootcamp. Everything works fine when I boot into Windows 7, but it takes 6-8 tries to get in. The screen will just go to black and I am forced to power down and reboot. Does anyone else encounter the same problem?
    Thank you in advance.

By any chance is it like this: http://tinypic.com/player.php?v=vobrz6&s=6 (posted in my topic from a few months back - http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2244344&tstart=0 )
Basically, Windows 7 will crash / shut itself down immediately after logging in. I've tried everything from disabling and re-enabling start-up items using msconfig.exe; using the default VGA video drivers; and can't figure out what's wrong.

The basic problem. I have a HD6870, my monitor is connected through DVI (& my second one through HDMI). No integrated graphics.
After I try to boot the x64_86 version, the screen goes black after 'booting kernel'.
    Things I've tried:
radeon.modeset=0 (gives drm:radeon_init [radeon]] *ERROR* no UMS suppot in radeon module)
    radeon.modeset=1 (black screen)
nomodeset (drm:radeon_init [radeon]] *ERROR* no UMS suppot in radeon module)
    disconnected second screen (black screen)
    video=SVIDEO-1:d (black screen)
i915.modeset=0 (I have no intel, but black screen)
    acpi=off (doesn't work either).
It is driving me crazy. Can someone help me?

  • Black Screen When Booting to Windows

I have a macbook pro, mid 2009, running snow leopard 10.6.8. The problem I'm currently having is with my Bootcamp Windows 7 partition. Whenever I boot to windows, I get a black screen. I can hear the computer running, but cannot turn up the brightness to see. The keyboard lights come up after a while, and the caps lock key light can be turned on and off, but everything else is blackness, no cursor, nothing. The windows startup sound doesn't happen either. I have a trial version of Parallels 8, and I tried using my Windows 7 install disk to do repairs, as well as my Snow Leopard Install disk, but neither seem to be able to find a problem. I'm stumped and very frustrated at this point, because I can see that all my files are there, but I'm unable to reach them Any help would be forever appreciated.

  • E531 black screen when booting (90% of attempts to boot)

    Hi All,
My laptop is 15 months old and has worked flawlessly until last week (this behavior started all of sudden).
In 90% of the times I try to boot my E531 it just shows a black screen, even not possible to enter BIOS.
Then I have to press and hold down the power switch and then retry to boot.
After a couple of retries the laptop boots as normal and functions flawlessly.
I already removed the battery, pressed power button for 60 seconds and then reboot, sometimes it works and others it doesn't.
Hardware diagnostics did not find any issues.I tried to update the BIOS (v1.22 to v1.29) using windows tool and bootable CD-rom but without success (Update using tool does not work it give me error "failed to read BIOS", CD update gives an error that the necessary files are not on the CD).
anyone have an idea what's wrong ?

Hi, do you have NVIDIA dedicated graphics? If so, the graphics could be failing.
Otherwise I'd be looking at a motherboard fault.
But try this, sometimes if a laptop cannot communicate with the HDD it will black screen - Remove the HDD and see if the black-screen issue still occurs (Obviously wont boot to OS without HDD but we are diagnosing at the moment.)

  • Black screen when trying to boot into Windows 7

    Hello everyone.
Today we've encountered an issue with one of our MacBook Pros with Windows 7 installed. The computer was booted into Windows 7 (it's strictly used as a Windows machine by this particular user) and after a time of inactivity it went to sleep. It wouldn't wake up from it's sleep so we tried a hard boot. At that point we would get the grey screen, the Apple tone wouldn't sound off and it would just go to a black screen (by default we have it booting to windows). So then we reset the PRAM. Now, we get the apple tone and we can boot into the Mac side. But when we try and boot into Windows, we get a blank screen.
What's even more interesting, if I try and boot into a Windows install disk to do a boot repair, it gives me a black screen. If I even try to boot from a live Linux cd, I get a blank screen! When important thing I then noticed was that the cd spinned for a couple minutes, then stopped. So I began to wonder if it was still loading the OS like expected, but just wasn't displaying it.
So I booted into Windows, got the blank black screen. Then I went into another computer, fired up remote desktop and voila! I'm in the machine!
So the problem is this: When booting into ANYTHING other than OS X, the display turns off.
    What can we do?

    Hello there,
I have a similar problem! Windows 7 shutdown unexpectedly and since that I can not reboot in windows anymore only with safe mode where everything is a mess.
Also when it's trying to reboot in windows a blue window appears, says something about drivers  and it is counting something (79.78...till100)but  I m not able to read it cause it disappears immidiately and then black screen and then it turns to reboot in mac which works fine.
I m sorry if I confused you with my english...
    If anyone knows please help!
    Thanks

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities.
That alert codes does suggest there is a USB related issue. If you haven’t already, try the troubleshooting suggestions in the article linked below.

  • Blue screen when booting from USB drive in UEFI mode (2013.07)

SOLUTION for me was to update the firmware on my ASRock mb as thatu pdate changed the EFI software (by American Megatrends) version from 2.00 to 2.31. However, other users are still experiencing the blue screen.
    SHORT VERSION
When I try to boot Arch Linux 2013.07 with an USB drive in UEFI mode (for installation), I get a blue screen (which is rather a literal description and not a hint towards the old Windows' one) with the message
Failed to install override security policy (14): Not found
    LONG VERSION
I made an USB installation media (product: Intenso Rainbow) by following this advice on the wiki.
I used the july release of Arch for that. First of, after installing the image to the USB stick I found that I needed to correct the label in the archiso-x86_64.conf file to ARCH_201307 (or was it the label of the usb stick, can't remember right now). (Pretty sure it was the same problem with "Linux Live USB Creator" which I used 3-4 months ago...)
After doing that, I rebooted and selected the entry
    UEFI Intenso Rainbow
    from this list of entries:
SATA HDJ ... something (the hard drive where Win 7 64 bit is installed with all programs)
SATA something (hard drive which only contains data)
    Windows Boot Manager
    USB: Intenso Rainbow
    UEFI: Intenso Rainbow
It went to a blue screen with a message in white text saying
Failed to install override security policy (14): Not found
Below that was an OK button which had a black rectangle over it.
After I experienced the bluescreen, I tried booting the
    USB Intenso Rainbow
entry and the boot process then worked fine, I got to that Arch menu where I could choose
    Boot Arch Linux (x86_64)
    Boot Arch Linux (i686)
    Boot existing OS
    Run Memtest...
    and so on...
But just to make sure, I then did the check for UEFI mode according to this and only saw a folder acpi and ... something else I can't really remember, but it definitely was not efi. Thing is, I needwant to boot into UEFI mode as I have Win 7 already installed in UEFI mode.
Some info about my motherboard: it's from ASRock and is called H67M. The BIOS is dated to 2011-10-26 and is version 1.7.
So far, I only found a mention of the problem here at superuser.com.

Ok then, so this thread has also become about the blank screen problem when booting (in this particular case, Arch 2013.06 since 2013.07 seems to be worse).
srs5694 wrote:Typically, you adjust kernel boot options using your boot manager or boot loader. In GRUB, you hit the "e" key to open an editor. In rEFInd, you hit F2 or Insert twice. I don't recall offhand what key does the job for gummiboot (which I'm pretty sure the Arch installer uses), but I'm certain it's got the feature.
You are right. Thanks. I realized I had the gummiboot config right in front of me all the time. It's the file 'archiso-x86_64.conf' in \loader\entries (on Windows).
An addendum: I think the USB: Intenso Rainbow boot option takes me into a GRUB menu. Hitting 'e' in this "big" and fully designed menu didn't do anything IIRC. Hitting 'Tab' did the trick to get into editing the boot command line.
Hitting 'e' worked in the gummiboot menu though.
So I tried booting with the following options (also by combining some of them)
    nomodeset
    acpi_backlight=vendor
radeon.modeset=0 (I have a Gigabyte 7870 card in this desktop machien)
    i915.modeset=0
    but it did not help.
To be rather safe than sorry: I should mention that there are two grey-ish bars visible on the top and bottom of the screen after I try to boot the first entry, Arch Linux archiso x86_64 UEFI USB. Always has been with those two older Arch version (2013.05+2013.06). I also found another thread where one user talks about using the VGA port of the monitor, which I am currently not, I am using the DVI one, so that's worth a try too. EDIT It did not help either. What I did was setting the primary graphics adapter in the UEFI north bridge configuration menu to 'onboard' which worked immediately when rebooting (I hit the button labeled "Source" on my monitor and it showed it is using the "Analog" mode), but the problem just stayed the same. Adding aforementioned boot options or a combination thereof did not change anything.
Thanks for the e-mail addresses, I sent one to James Bottomley.

    EDIT: RESOLVED
For anyone else who finds their way here like I did, this link did it for me: https://forums.geforce.com/default/topic/527599/windows-8-issues-solved-please-r ead-if-you-39-re-having-black-screen-and-or-flickering-/
Specifically, the posts by Dunsany and valkyr did the trick.  I booted in safe mode, uninstalled and deleted the Nvidia driver, disabled automatic driver installation, and restarted normally.  I then manually downloaded and installed the previous Nvidia driver for my graphics card (which at the time of this writing was 335.23, rather than the latest which was 337.88), and everything is now bueno!
Two hiccoughs along the way: First, when I tried to uninstall the Nvidia driver the first time, when I restarted I got the login screen (which was a good sign), but it quickly went black again.  I powered down, restarted in safe mode again, and repeated the uninstallation process, and it worked the second time.  Second, when I started the manual install of the 335.23 driver, the computer played a sound similar to the one for disconnecting a USB device, and the screen went black.  I'd seen a lot about trying to increase the brightness (though it hadn't worked up to this point; but if you haven't tried it yet, might as well); I tried it, and it worked! So far I'm back up and running. [/fingers crossed]
    Hope this helps someone else!

AMD Catalyst Omega Driver: 14.501.1003.0 WHQL (latest non-beta driver)
When booting my computer in UEFI mode, occasionally, my monitor does not wake from sleep and the screen remains black until Windows takes over and the login screen displays. This seems to usually occur after the computer has been powered off for more than 10 minutes. Sometimes this never happens, the screen remains black the whole time, and I need to hard reset. Sometimes it boots fine.
This black screen / no signal issue also occurs far more frequently when attempting to resume from sleep. I strike a key on the keyboard or hit the power button while the computer is in sleep mode, the computer wakes up, but the monitor never turns on. This forces me to either hard shutdown or reset in order to restore graphics.
In addition, I have a Razer keyboard that shuts off its backlight when the display is turned off, and it remains off when this problem occurs. This likely means that there is a problem with the card, drivers, or something else, rather than cabling. I might just RMA if we don't get anywhere here.
Perhaps a good first step would be ensuring that my card is flashed with the latest vBIOS. Can you send a link to that?
I'm also wondering if ULPS might be interfering, even though I am not in a CrossFireX setup.
Other than this MAJOR issue, the card works fine when playing 3D games. Though, I had major issues with video artifacts when playing 2D games or doing anything else simple (web browsing, moving windows) because of the absolutely terrible decision to underclock the past couple generations of AMD cards so much that the GPU can't function. I solved this by modifying an OverDrive profile to raise the idle clock to 850 MHz, but not overclocking at all.
    Thank you.
Meta discussion for the mods (feel free to PM me if you would like to discuss this further, in order to keep the discussion here on topic): sorry for not immediately opening up another forum topic when commenting on this issue. Every single other community that I've been a part of prefers to keep users with the same problem on the same thread. In my experience, mods yell at people for opening up duplicate bug reports and duplicate issues far more than they ask people to fragment information across multiple threads, therefore making it difficult to consolidate information.

It could be a mobo issue, but all of the quirks seem to point to the card.
I do not recall if I tested the card in another PC, but I no longer have a second desktop to test with.
I do think I tested an NVIDIA card on a separate Windows install with this build though. No issues there if my memory serves correctly. I've been troubleshooting this issue for months, and I'm becoming tired of this stubborn problem, so the attempts at problem-solving are becoming blurred.
    vBIOS is attached.
