Black screen after software update

I have a new P7-1254 with Windows 7. Second time I lost the monitor screen and icons after updating software. This happened with Norton Internet Security 2012 and just recently again with update to System Mechanic. I have to enter safe mode and restore computer to a previous time. Screen is all black with no mouse pointer or anything else. Monitor is an HP flatscreen.

If you tried to reset your Touch, and are unable to, your best option may be to visit your local Apple Store/Genius Bar to fix this snafu. Since you cannot restart Touch, and your unit isn't recognized, it's best to have Apple staff address this.

  • MBP Black Screen after software update

This is posted also in OS X.6.8 forum:
Hello to all, Just after dowloading today's latest updates, iTunes, Safari, something about file exchanges and Apple remote I beleive, there needed to restart and once done, no chime and black screen...
All was perfectly fine just before, and I did backup beforehand.
Tried to reset PRAM, restart in Single user, Safe mode, Installation Disk, all with no success.
I will let it powered off and let it cool down for a while if it can help, but it was not particularly hot when restarted.
    Any other suggestions ??
    Many thanks !!

    Hi Clinton,

I did pressed the light F2 still NO DISPLAY.

  • N8 Black Screen After Software update

I know this has been posted sometime ago, i just wanna know if there are developments as to how i can fix this issue.
I left my N8 while it was updating , when i came back the screen says Nokia PC suite has stopped working but after i closed the program and opened it again the update page says "Update Complete" after that i noticed that the PC suit/Computer is no longer detecting my Phone and the Screen is already black. I tried to turn it off and On (only felt the vibration), Already tried the 8-10 seconds hold on Power button (and felt the 3 vibraions), still not working. Also tried the 3 finger thing to no avail. I felt regret for updating my N8. I shouldnt have click that update button on the Pc suit. Hope someone out there can help me.

    @Perre
Just to clarify whilst carrying out three key reset you did release power button only after first vibration whilst keeping other three designated keys depressed?

  • My early 2008 Macbook Pro is suffering from black screen after Yosemite update

My early 2008 Macbook Pro is suffering from black screen after Yosemite update. It ran beta 5 great but failed on restart after beta 6 install. There is no cursor but I can hear the HDD spooling up. I have tried booting in safe mode, PRAM reset and SMC reset but nothing works. After the first 5 days of every now and then trying to start it, it started fine. I used the machine all day with no problems, it had rolled back the install and was back on beta 5. I decided to try the update again, the same thing happened and it has stayed black for over a week now. It wont work with a monitor either. Help!

    Hello Adam,
I would try instead of installing the beta software, to install the official build of OS X Yosemite from the Mac App Store to see if that gets you passed the no video issue when updating the beta software.

Photo booth became black screen after Newpad updated to iOS 7

It is not a widespread issue that requires apple to come out with a fix, I have many ipads that were updated and have no issues.
I would suggest you back-up and restore your device, that can repair many issues if the original update was corrupted.

  • Black screen after BIOS update

    Hi there,
After updating BIOS with regular HP software (i forgot the name now), the computer shut down and from that moment when i turn it on the screen stays black (with computer apparently running). I read so many posts with similar problems and i tried few things but without success. I know that i am very close to solve the problem but from all the suggestions i am now simply confused. I would like to ask, if someone can guide me through step-by-step procedure, i figured out that i need to install a BIOS version on USB-stick, but exact details i am obviously missing.
I have HP Pavilion dv 6700 Entertainment PC and new HDD inside without HP_TOOLS on it.
    Thank you veeeeeryyyy much!

  • Black screen after Mavericks update ?

    Hi everybody,
First of all, I want you to know that I'm French so I want to apologize for my potential mistakes
A few weeks ago, I updated Mavericks (because my mac told me to do that every single day .. ) on my Macbook Unibody bought in September 2010.
After that update, I had a black screen after the "Apple logo" and couldn't do anything. I went to a Genius Bar in Paris and the technician told me that the unique solution was to format the laptop. I decided to accept this because I needed my laptop for work. However, I lost all my data (documents, pictures ...)
Apparently, I'm not the only person in that case and the problem comes from Mavericks.
So I want to know if someone else is also in that case, and I think that it's unacceptable that Apple does not communicate about this.
    Thank you

Connect the MBP to a monitor.  If the monitor fails to produce an image, the GPU is suspect.  If the monitor produces an image, the display or the display connection is faulty.
    Ciao.

  • HP elitebook black screen after bios update

I recently bought a great condition HP elitebook 8440p. I installed a new hard drive 1TB hybrid hard drive ssd+HDD. I managed to get the computer working and everything was fine untill I decided to update bios. I searched up drivers and the first thing came up was bios update so I said to myself why not. After the program shut down my computer, I immediately noticed abnormal fan speed. There was no picture, and the panel lights were on and two lights (Cap lock and numlock) were blinking 3 times for 5 sets so (blink blink blink (Pause) blink blink blink (pause) blink blink blink (pause) blink blink blink (pause) blink blink blink. After that nothing else happenes. The other panel lights stay on and the fan continues to spin until i turn it off.
    Things i have tried.
    1. Installing update bios to 16gb flash drive, making it bootable and then sticking it into the USB port. Holding down Win+B. Also tried to hold down FN+insert , (Up+ down+ Left+ right), f10
    2. Several hard resets (Holding down power button for 30 seconds, 1 min to 30 mins.
    3. Reseating ram. Ram is 100% functional. Stuck it into an Asus G75VW and showed I had 10 GB rather than having 8 .
There are no instructions on how to fix this problem on the 8440p and I see people asking for answers. I am really fustrated and spend several hours trying to figure this problem out on Youtube, HP forums etc. Thanks

I have same issue with my HP EliteBook 8440p.
I updated my bios throuh HP SoftPaq Download Manager and aftrer the reset the computer won't boot, I get a black screen and it lights up and fan is working.
Since my warranty expired and this is official HP software I am wondering who will cover the costs of the repair?
The laptop is currently in offical HP service for two weeks now and they are waitnig for a reply from HP central for a possible solution for the issue.
From what I read on HP support forums there is no fix and HP isn't in a hurry to answer on anyones questions about that which is very sad for a company I thought was professional... also, the surprising thing is that this is not a cheap laptop for the masses but a laptop which is built to last for professional users
The question remains, is there a fix for this issue and if not who is going to cover the cost of repair/replacement of the components/laptop?
    Best regards,
    Cole

  • Mov videos show black screen after latest update (idvd, iweb)

    Hi MacUsers,
I am facing a severe problem after updating my MacBook Pro (Mac OS X 10.6.8) with iDVD 7.1.2 and the iWeb Update. I opened a keynote'09 presentation and encountered that most videos do not show up or just show a black box. Then I tried to open the original mov videos with QuickTime Player 10 and 7 but also black screen. Everything worked perfectly before the update. Any ideas how to solve the problem? It is urgent because I have to give a presentation tomorrow. By the way, using VLC works fine, but this does not help me with keynote. Thanks for any answers.

Here is a comparable problem described in an older thread:
    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/2259769
It seems that there is still a problem with QuickTime. All other players such as MplayerX, VLC or mediAvatar can handle the mov videos (Apple Motion Jpeg A). Is there a solution?

  • MBP flashing blue screen after software updates

This morning, my 2011 MBP 17" 2.2GHz i7 (running 10.6.8 with all updates) suddenly started flashing between whatever I was doing, and a light blue screen every few seconds. (The same light blue screen that you get briefly when switching users and starting up). If I restarted, after a random period of a few minutes, the problem would return.
Things kept going during the blue periods (ie keystrokes worked, downloads continued etc)
I tried repairing the disc and permissions. I kept getting certain incorrect permissions coming up, which were related to coreimage IIRC. They were reported as being fixed, but as soon as I ran it again, the same errors came up.
Tried numerous restarts and repairs to no avail. Zapped the PRAM. Ended up reinstalling OSX from the original install discs (10.6.6), and the problem went away. I then did the first software update that came up, which was the 10.6.8 combo and a few other bits and pieces. Used the machine for a few hours with no problems.
I then ran software update again, which was:
    Thunderbolt update 1.0;
    Safari update 5.1.2;
    Security Update 2011-006;
    Java 10.6 update 6
The problem reappeared almost immediately, so I'm putting it down to one of those four updates. I'm leaning towards Safari, because on each occasion I got the blinking blue screen, safari was open (although in the background at least once). I'm also pretty sure that I updated Safari (alone) the night before the problems started.
    Anyone else having this issue?
EDIT: I should add that my MacPro isn't having this issue, and it has all the same updates installed except for Safari (still running 5.1.1).

I turned graphic card switching back on and ran the latest Safari off and on using youtube etc. with no problems. It used the HD 3000 card all the time for me.  I have all the latest updates for 10.6.8 installed on my Early 2011 15" Macbook Pro.  I've updated all my applications to eliminate the need for Rosetta.  If the problem returns, do a safe mode startup (shift key and power key) and then a re-start to re-built your startup cache.  You may have a startup item that's giving you a problem or one of your applications may be running in the back ground even after you quit it.  Also, the permission errors never seem to go away no matter how often you run the repair permissions. This doesn't seem to mean anything.  These "blue screen" problems probably have to do with with the Apple updates required to transition to Lion.  Lion doesn't use Rosetta and you can't run power PC apllications.  We had something that worked and Apple screwed it up.

  • Power up stops at blue screen after software update

I have a rather old Power Book G4, but was working fine until I tried a software update. It had 5 updates. It required a restart so I restarted it, and the update began. At 22% complete it stopped and said to restart. It wouldn't complete the upgrade. So I restarted it. It now stops at the blue screen. It gets past the gray screen with the Apple logo, but stops. Any ideas before I take it in? Thanks.

    Some general advice on updating:
It is worth noting that it is an extreme rarity for updates to cause upsets to your system, as they have all been extensively beta-tested, but they may well reveal pre-existing ones, particularly those of which you may have been unaware. If you are actually aware of any glitches, make sure they are fixed before proceeding further.
So before you do anything else:
If you can, make a full backup first to an external hard disk. Ideally you should always have a bootable clone of your system that enables you to revert to the previous pre-update state.
Turn off sleep mode for both screen and hard disk.
Disconnect all peripherals except your keyboard and mouse.
    1. Repair Permissions (in Disk Utility)
    2. Verify the state of your hard disk using Disk Utility. If any faults are reported, restart from your install disk (holding down the C key), go to Disk Utility, and repair your startup disk. Restart again to get back to your startup disk.
At least you can now be reasonably certain that your system does not contain any obvious faults that might cause an update/upgrade to fail.
    3. Download the correct version of the COMBO update from the Apple download site.
The Combo updater of Leopard 10.5.8 can be found here:
    http://support.apple.com/downloads/MacOS_X_10_5_8_ComboUpdate
If you prefer to download updates via Software Update in the Apple menu (which would ensure that the correct version for your Mac was being downloaded), it is not recommended to allow SU to install major (or even minor) updates automatically. Set Software Update to just download the updater without immediately installing it. There is always the possibility that the combined download and install (which can be a lengthy process) might be interrupted by a power outage or your cat walking across the keyboard, and an interrupted install will almost certainly cause havoc. Once it is downloaded, you can install at a time that suits you. You should make a backup copy of the updater on a CD in case you ever need a reinstall.
Full details about the 10.5.8 update here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3606
More information on using Software Updater here:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TA24901?viewlocale=en_US
Using the Combo updater ensures that all system files changed since the original 10.5.0 are included, and any that may have been missed out or subsequently damaged will be repaired. The Delta updater, although a temptingly smaller download, only takes you from the previous version to the new one, i.e. for example from 10.5.7 to 10.5.8. Software Update will generally download the Delta updater only. The preferable Combo updater needs to be downloaded from Apple's download site.
    Now proceed as follows:
    4. Close all applications and turn off energy saving and screensaver.
    5. Unplug all peripherals except your keyboard and mouse.
    6. Install the update/upgrade. Do not under any circumstances interrupt this procedure. Do not do anything else on your computer while it is installing. Be patient.
    7. When it ask for a restart to complete the installation, click restart. This can take longer than normal, there are probably thousands of files to overwrite and place in the correct location. Do nothing while this is going on.
    8. Once your Mac is awake, repair permissions again, and you should be good to go!
If your Mac seems slightly sluggish or ‘different’, perform a second restart. It can’t hurt and is sometimes efficacious!
    9. Open a few of your most used applications and check that all is OK. In this connection please remember that not all manufacturers of third party applications and plug-ins, add-ons, haxies etc, will have had time to do any necessary rewrites to their software to make them compliant with the latest version of your operating system. Give them a weeks or two while you regularly check their websites for updates. This applies particularly to plug-ins for Safari 4.
N.B. Do not attempt to install two different updates at the same time as each may have different routines and requirements. Follow the above recommendations for each update in turn.
Lastly, Apple's own article on the subject of Software Update may also be useful reading:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106695
If you are updating Safari (or just have):
Input Managers from third parties can do as much harm as good. They use a security loophole to reach right into your applications' code and change that code as the application starts up. If you have installed an OS update and Safari is crashing, the very first thing to do is clear out your InputManagers folders (both in your own Library and in the top-level /Library), log out and log back in, and try again.
So, disable all third party add-ons before updating Safari, as they may not have been updated yet for the new version. Add them back one by one. If something goes awry, remove it again and check on the software manufacturer's website for news of an update to match your version of Safari.
Most errors reported here after an update are due to an unrepaired or undetected inherent fault in the system, and/or a third party add-on.
Additional tips on software installation here:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106692
To reiterate, Input Managers reach right into an application and alter its code. This puts the behavior of the affected application outside the control and responsibility of its developers: a recipe for problems. That's not to say that issues absolutely will ensue as a result of Input Managers, but you, as a user, must decide. If the functionality of a specific Input Manager or set thereof is really important to you, you may well choose to assume the associated risk.
Again, the advice is to remove all Input Managers from the following directories:
    • /Library/InputManagers
    • ~/Library/InputManagers
especially prior to system updates (they can always be added back one-by-one later).

  • Blank screen after Software Update

Got a new iMac today. Moved my stuff over from my old iMac G5 and ran Software Update to move up to 10.5.1 but after the reboot I only get a blank white screen. I have tried switching off and on but again only the blank white screen. Have also tried booting from CD - do I need to do anything other than insert the CD before switching on?
I am relatively new to Macs and this is my attempt to move over to using a Mac as my primary machine, so I'm not very familiar with standard troubleshooting.
    Ideas please...

Hold down the "c" key as soon as you hear the boot chime to boot to the disk. Once you have booted select your Language but then instead of going through the install process, go up the the Utilities pull down menu and open up Disk Utility. Repair Disk Permissions and Repair Disk then if all is good go to Startup Disk, select your 10.5 System volume and restart.

  • Gray screen after Software Update

I rebooted my G4 running Leopard, there was a "software update" that installed several updates, my hardisk may not have had enough space....when the Mac rebooted after the update the wheel kept spinning. I rebooted and got a gray screen...Tried Command-S but still get not past a grey screen. Please Help!

    Hi guido Deboeck;
    Do you have a backup?
Did you have Time Machine turned out prior to the problem?
It sounds like the lack of free space has caused the files on your system to become corrupted. You may have to resort to an Erase & Install. This of course will wipe out everything that was on the disk hence my questions about backup.

You need to use included "FLASHWIN.BAT" [which contain all required parameters] to flash it,
else your notebook will be bricked.
