Black Screen After Upgrading to Windows 8

Hi
I'm experiencing a black screen after upgrading a Dell N5050 B890 to Windows 8.
Tried to refresh the installation but the problem persited. re-installed the Windows 8, the machine logged in successfully but the problem arose again after reboot.
Urgent assistance needed

This problem is solved...
I guess the problem is concerned with the display module controller in the BIOS which is having a slight compatibility issue with windows 8.
This issue is solved by updating the BIOS of your Laptop/PC to the latest version. You can download the latest BIOS from the website of the Laptop company/Motherboard Company.
But for updating the BIOS, you have to start your computer/Laptop for at least one time in Normal Mode. So here are the steps to do so...
1) Boot the Laptop/PC.
2) After the boot screen (The Circle Animation & Windows 8 logo), you will be presented by the lovely & awesome blank screen.
3) Wait for 1 minute so that drivers load into the memory.
4) Press the Power button of your laptop/PC for only a moment (Just Press and release it quickly. Don't hold. We don't want to shut down).
5) This will force the laptop/PC to go into Sleep mode.
6) When the laptop/PC goes in sleep, the laptop fan & other sounds will stop.
7) After 4-5 seconds, press the power button again & release it quickly.
8) Voilllaa!!! The laptop/PC starts & you are presented with the lock screen. Now..... Login! What are you waiting for! :P
This is not the permanent solution. It just lets you start you Laptop/PC.
After updating the BIOS, I strongly suggest that you must download the latest graphics driver for your Computer/Laptop to avoid any further issues.

  • Windows 8.1 black screen after upgrading and no media

    Hi everyone,
I just bought a second hand S230u i7 and right after I updated it to Windows 8 I got nothing but a black screen and the mouse cursor.
I've tried most of the recovery options and they all ask me for a recovery media which I dont have since I didnt have the opportunity to create once I received it (it started to install Windows 8.1 right after I turned it on).
So right now I have no way to use the laptop because of this update.
Does anyone know how can I get it to work again?
    Thank you
    Nuno

  • [solved] Black screen after upgrade

Hi, I upgraded arch on my old laptop about a week ago and after reboot all I got was a black screen. The problem is ctrl+alt+backspace doesn't do anything, nor does ctrl+alt+f*. So I tried to boot using "arch fallback" and my own arch runlevel 3 grub entry, but got the same problem - I can see the text running during boot, but at some point I get a black screen. I already downloaded puppy linux, but I have no idea where to look. I looked in x.org.log and found a warning about fbdev not found, but I thought I don't need that anyway because afaik xorg was using the intel module, I'm not sure however, because I used hardware auto detection. Without being able to boot I have no idea if there is any way to install it. Thanks in advance for your help.

I'm guessing you have an Intel graphic card. You can try the following to deactivate KMS which is now default for Intel graphics cards:
You can add "i915.modeset=0" to your kernel options in your grub config. This may, however, result in a hard crash on starting X. Maybe this helps, but this is only a workaround. KMS will be the only way in the future (upstream choice).
    EDIT:
    News item is here: http://www.archlinux.org/news/477/
As I have seen from your pacman.log you have upgrade the kernel to .32, so I think my advice should help.

  • MSI GE60 0NC black screen after updating to windows 8.1

Hey, guys! I updated my laptop last night to windows 8.1 and everything went smoothly until the final boot wherein, after signing in to my account, there's only a black screen and mouse cursor. I tried finding solutions online like using sfc but it only fixes it for several minutes. Only the task manager works. Please help me.

    Hello @emoakaely,
I understand that after doing the Windows 8.1 update you are not able to access your computer and you are inquiring as to how to unistall it. I am providing you with an HP Support document: Using Microsoft System Restore (Windows 8), which wil walk you through how to restore your computer back to a point in time before you ran the update. This will in essence reverse the update for you.
***This will not affect your personal files it will only restore your computer's operating system back to before the update.
I hope I have answered your question to your satisfaction. Thank you for posting on the HP Forums. Have a great weekend!

  • Black screen after upgrading ram (macbook pro late 2007)

    Dear Community,
I am willing to donate 100 USD to anyone who is willing/able to provide concrete resolution to this problem.
I am a professional freelance videoeditor and my job is currently stucked due to inability to boot my macbook pro again.
After upgrading the RAM of my MBP (late 2007 model, 17'' display, Intel 2.4GHz Dual Core processor), the screen went black and the system did not boot any more.
    I tried to replace the orginal 2 x 1GB DDR2 533 CL=5 SODIMM (single rank) with 2  X 2GB DDR2 800 CL=6 SODIMM (dual ranks).
After the memory upgrade, the system was restarted, I heard a short beep, but the macbook showed a black screen instead of booting properly. The mainboard was powered, the fan was moving. I saw a green led turned on on the center of one side of the macbook.
I tried to mount the previuos 2 x 1GB DRAM SODIMMs, but nothing happened. The system keeps not booting even with the original memory.
I tried already several procedures suggested by the user manual, related to SMC Intel controller reset (with battery and without battery and charger), but those were not effective in restoring the normal operation of the macbook. The system keeps not booting with exactly similar issues (black screen, fan on, short beep after power-on, green LED on).
I also tried to swap the memory DIMMs into the memory sockets. I tried to use a different combination with 1 NEW 2GB and 1 OLD 1GB  DIMM. But the problem is still there with similar sympthoms.
DOES ANYONE HAVE ANY CLUE OF HOW TO SOLVE THIS?

My best guess is that you have fried the RAM with static electricity charged up in your body. According to OGELTHORPE a beep on startup is because of no RAM, if when installing you did not do it correctly, you could have fried the RAM, which then your mac will not recognize it. The same with the old RAM, if you tried to re-install it and didn't pull up your sleeve and rest your arm on the inside of the chassis, then it is fried, or if you didn't wear an ESD band and connect it to the the chassis, then it is fried.
Seen as though you can't startup your mac, I can't say to do an AHT, buy some new ram, and start with the lowest one you can, so its cheap for ya use a different company incase is that;) Crucial.com is really good, I got an 8gb upgrade from 2gb. Let me tell you, it's great!
    Reply back;)

  • My Aspire 7750G does not show the login screen after upgrade to Windows 10

I have upgraded to Windows 10 on my 7750G and the update went thru smooth. But when I restart Windows it shows the windows screen with the moving dotted circle, the harddisk led stays on for a while, then starts flickering, and a blank screen is shown! After waiting - about 2 to 3 minutes - it goes directly to the lock screen, no login screen is shown.

    joeboemoe,
The lock screen is where you login now, if I am not mistaken. The notebooks we have here boot to a lock screen we have to click to log in, even my PC at home does. If you want to take a look at this article we created, it might be what you are looking for.
I created a password for one of the logins on one of our notebooks and I had the option to choose Never under "If you've been away, when should Windows require you to sign in again?"

  • Blank black screen after upgrade

Ready for chucking BT Vision box through the window. Ever since BT Vision upgraded earlier in the year it keeps shutting down and restarting for no apparent reason, sometimes up to six times a day. Sometimes it goes for days with no problem. The current problem is that yesterday it shut down and restarted with a message that it was going to install a new upgrade. It then went through the process of downloading an upgrade tool. At the end it displayed a message that the download was successful and it would now begin installing the new upgrades. The screen then went black with no error message. It would not respond to any commands and wouldn't switch off. I tried forcing a restart and switching off and unplugging everything and restarting the hub to no avail. All it does is go through the whole routine again with the same end result. I tried leaving it in that state overnight, thinking that it might update or correct itself through time but still the same. It just sits in the corner of the living room staring at me malevolently.

In the end we gave up and did a factory re-set (left and bottom button) so lost all our recordings - what a stupid system!
We had tried every method of resetting and rebooting before then and nothing worked. Plugs in and out, hub rebooted, black adapters reset, power cables in and out, OK and bottom buttons etc and every time when it restarted it downloaded new software (or so it said) and then kept rebooting  until every time it just stuck on a black screen which we seem to have spent hours looking at since Wednesday!!!
Anyway all is working OK now - fingers crossed - just no recordings to watch. I'm trying not to think of all the lovely interesting programs I had saved for a 'rainy day'.

  • 270X Gaming - Black screen after driver install

I just recently purchased an MSI R9 270X Twin Frozr Gaming.
I physically installed the board and booted my PC. Windows started fine, albeit in VGA mode. I then proceeded to install the latest AMD drivers for the card (13.11 Beta). I made it through installation and then rebooted. When I rebooted, I got a blank, black screen after the "Starting Windows" screen. I was unable to boot windows, so I restored to last known configuration and tried again with different drivers (13.9) with the same result.
Does anyone know why windows hangs when it loads the display driver? Any help would be much appreciated.
    Thanks

Hi everyone. I just wanted to give you an update. It seems I have resolved the problem.
After attempting other fixes (fresh Windows install, MB BIOS update, etc), flashing the BIOS of the video card fixed the problem. I used the BIOS version
015.040.000.000.002887. I believe the BIOS the card shipped with is 015.039.000.000.002887. Anyway, there are no problems now. I was able to install Catalyst 13.11 Beta 9.5 with no problems and no black screens.
I got the BIOS and ATIWinflash from TechPowerUp. I'd post links, but I am too new to the board.
    Thanks guys.

  • Black Screen After Windows 8 64-bit Upgrade (Clean Install) on TouchSmart IQ508A (IQ500 series)

    Hi there,
Just installed Windows 8 and am getting a black screen after booting up like many others. I currently have disabled the graphics driver and this has solved the black screen issue but I can no longer use my web cam for Skype (although web cam works for W8 Camera App oddly).
To date I have tried the following:
Loading up the latest Nvidia drivers from the Nvidia website
Attempting to use the drivers for Windows 7 both in compatability mode and normally. I unzipped SP44488 to get this working
I know many others are having this problem so I really would  like someone from HP to respond and state whether a Windows 8 display driver for the Nvidia GE Force 9300M GS is being developed.
I ran the compatability wizard prior to the clean install and it came up with no issues so I am very disappointed I am having these problems.
I've found out that HP have a customised version of the above card so that explains why the Nvidia drivers dont work so I believe HP is therefore obligated to provide a driver.
If anyone else is having similar issues please respond as this will hopefully lead to more action.
    cheers
    Steve

I'm in the same boat. On my IQ804, the Nvidia GE Force 9300M GS card crashes when I use NVidia's latest Windows 8 driver and Microsoft's LIVE UPDATE drivers.  I have to resort to the Standard VGA driver in order for the pc not to crash into a black screen.
I read on another forum you can try installing a July 2012 version of the driver from NVidia and that should solve the problem.  I tried it once. Using the July 2012 version, the screen would stay on longer, but eventually it crashes into a black screen...but definitely more usable than the latest from NVidia and Microsoft.
I too have heard that HP used a customized version of the graphics card and that's why neither HP nor NVidia's drivers work.
I also tried installing the Nvidia GE Force 9300M GS drivers for Windows 7 that I downloaded from the HP website.  It didn't work either.  It actually failed to install altogether, saying my system is incompatible.
As is, the pc works fine.  But videos and games that require motion is noticably choppy.
    Any help from HP??

  • Lenovo G560 - Issue with won't boot and black screen after HDD upgrade

Lenovo G560 - Issue with won't boot and black screen after HDD upgrade.
What happen: My laptop was working fine, no blue screen issue, no funny business at all. I bought a new SSD Intel 120 GB and thought it would be a good idea to replace the HDD. I shutdown and disconnected the power adapter, waited a couple of minutes and removed the battery. I opened up the back case and replaced the HDD. And put all the screws back and put the battery back in.
Problem: The very first time I turned the power on, nothing happens besides a black screen. I pressed the dvd drive it works and opens up and closes. I waited for about 30 mins and still has blac screen. When I mean black screen, no bios menu, no logo, just a black screen with the fan sound on.
    I have tried these:
    1. Unplugged everything - battery, adapter, and pressed the power on button for about 60 seconds, nothing, the laptop turns on with the LED display on for both on and battery LED's. But nothing but black screen, no sound of windows loading just the fan and black screen.
    2. I tried putting back my old 2.5" and nothing but black screen.
    Thoughts and suggestions?
