Black screen and no HDD action on Satellite A315-S2615

Hi,
First, let me thank everyone who gives input. This is my last hope.
Background: I've had a A315-S2615 (I think, it's at home and I'm typing this at work so I'm not 100% sure of the model #) for 11 months when the problem started. I hit the power button, the light by the power button goes on, the laptop would start, but freeze at the "Toshiba" screen. I'd push and hold the power button to turn it off and try again. This time, the light would come on but the screen would stay black. I noticed that the hard drive light isn't running either.
I went on Toshiba's website and found a local service provider since I was within the 1 year. They put in a new motherboard and it worked great...for 1 month that is. Now, I'm outside the 1 yr wrnty and I'm screwed. The service provider said they don't guarantee their work when it was done in a Toshiba warranty. Toshiba said I should have sent it to them to fix the first time and maybe they could do something, but since I went to their authorized service provider, they won't do anything (BULL! Then why do they have authorized service providers!!!).
Again, I hit the power button, light by the power button comes on, but no hard drive light flickering and no screen. I've built computers, so I have a small idea of what to troubleshoot, but laptops are new to me. Here's what I have tried...
1. With and w/o battery. When it's plugged in, the light for the plug comes on. When the battery is in, the light for the plug and the battery charger comes on, so it seems to be getting power and acting normal.
2. Hard Drive? Bought an external Hard Drive case and hooked it up to another comptuer. It reads fine.
3. Memory? I had two memory modules in it. I tried it with one, then the other, then both. Nothing. I don't think both would go bad at the same time.
4. Tried connecting an external monitor. Nothing. (Again, hard drive doesn't seem to be spinning, so I don't think this is it).
5. Took apart the laptop looking for bad connections. Didn't notice anything, but it was a general scan since I'm not too familiar with laptops.
So I'm down to the motherboard and the chip, right? I'm guessing chip since the motherboard is only 1 month old. Thoughts?
I have search countless forums for an answer to "black screen", "no power", "blank screen", etc. Lots of issues, not any solutions. I'm hoping someone has seen the solution to this problem.
Again, any help is greatly appreaciated. Otherwise, I out a notebook that only lasted 11 months (I didn't expect this from a Toshiba).
Thanks a lot!!!
Andy
I just noticed this is a Europe forum. Not sure how I ended up here. Either way, hopefully someone can help.

    Hi,
In one Satellite Pro C845-SP4337KL with Windows 8 is happening that a black screen appears suddenly and only the mouse's cursor works.
If I connect a second display I have tow (2) black screens.
    Control-Alt-Delete doesn't work.
If I move the cursor to the left corner the start menu doesn't appears.
The C845 responds throug the network to ping, and I can brow the disc remotly from another PC when the black screen appears.
The only thing I can do is to force the shutdown, and I lose my work.
After that I have to verify the disk integrity and try to recover my files.
    This had happen twice.
    Thanks for any help.

  • Screen problems - black screen and lock-up (plus HDMI issues)

Hi, I'm not sure if these are related to the same fundamental issue, but they are both serious problems that need resolution.
I have a new mid-2012 MBPretina.  I am on all the latest updates (10.8.2).
The first problem is the most recent, and the most serious problem.  Since I updated the Java a couple of days ago I've been experiencing random black screens and lock-ups.  Essentially, what happens is that sometimes when I perform an action (opening an app, clicking a link on a webpage, performing other kinds of in-app actions, etc.) the computer screen will go black.  About half the time I can, through my own memory, try keyboard combinations to quit or force quit the most recently used app (the one where the action was just performed), and I will get some glimpse of the underlying apps, while the menubar and other areas will remain black until I move a window on top of the black space.  Sometimes no key combinations work and I am forced to perform a hard restart with the power button.  This is a serious issue, obviously, since I will lose current work/progress in my apps.  I'm not sure if this is because of the new Java update, or has to do with something else, but it started happening shortly thereafter, over the last 2 days.  I work most of my waking day on my laptop, and this "black screen of death" has happened about 5 or 6 times a day.
The second problem I have been experiencing since I starting using my MBPr with external HDMI displays in August/September.  The problem is that I will plug the MBPr into an HDMI display, the screen will temporaliy go black, and then bring me to the login screen (as if it's crashing, albeit softly).  This happens about 1 out of 4 times nowadays.
How can I fix these problems, especially the first?

    UPDATE:
Clearly there's a problem because a third of the way through a clean reinstallation from scratch it black screened again. Hmmmm.
Now this is not good. Problem is I can't rule out potential updates from Apple that might have caused this either.
    The search for solutions continues.

  • IMac boots to a black screen and shows blinking square cursor on top left

iMac boots to black screen and then shows flashing white square in the top left of the screen. After a few seconds an error message - i assume appears.
    disc0s2 oxe0030005 undefined appears.
Does anyone know what this is?
    Can view HDD using firewire
Can load diagnostic disc and run diagnostics with no errors

The disc0s2 should be your OS X boot volume. Have you tried starting from the Install DVD1? Start from the DVD and when you get to the OS X installer go to Disk Utility in the Utilities menu and select First Aid. Choose the top drive in the left hand column and repair. Repair as many times as necessary until no more repairs are reported. Quit Disk Utility. Then go to Startup Disk in the Utilities menu and choose the OS x volume on your Mac and restart.

Please help me out as this is very irritating. This has been happening for the last 20-30 minutes. It had roughly half battery left.

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode

    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try another cable
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Restore from backup. See:
    iOS: How to back up
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.
If still problem, make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.

  • Ipod touch 2G is black screen and won't restore in Itunes (error 21)

I have aquired an Ipod touch 2g 16g that I was hoping to make a present to my daughter with.  The device is I guess what is called "Black Screen of Death".  I can't get any image to display on the Ipod when trying to charge (which it apparenlty accepts) the item or when trying to connect it to Itunes.  Itunes recongizes the item in recovery mode, and attempts to restore the item and consistantly gives the error 21 message.  I am using Windows 7 and have tried to restore the device on a laptop running Win XP with the exact same results.  The screen will turn white during the process, and the machine will from what I have read and believe go into DFU mode, but it stops with error 21.  I am a Noob and have googled and googled for a week now with no luck.  I have tried the reinstallation of Itunes, all the updates to both Itunes and the machine, no security software, the works.  I tried connecting it to older son's laptop running Win 7 which he uses for his Ipod 2g 32 gig without problems.  My device was recognized on his machine, and he said on his Itunes he briefly saw songs on the device he did not have on his machine/device in his library before it hung again in the recovery mode loop.  I have read different articles and tutorials on jailbreaking and tried loading just the 'oem" firmware from apple with Redsnow and thought i was successful.  The device went through the process of white screen, several boots/dings of on my PC, and then an image appeared on the Ipod of "loading Jailbreak data".  After a few moments/minutes it then began what I believe is displaying the "verbose" booting running the lines of text on the screen.  I then notice it to stop and give me an error of something to the affect of init failed, and then a "lan error, watchdog timeout, giving up, a long pause, then quick scrolls down the screen and reboot back to white screen.  Holding the power button or home/power button puts it right back to a black screen and in the Itunes recovery mode loop/error 21 again.  Can anyone please help me resolve this issue before I pull what's left of my hair out.  I would love to get this working for my daughter before her birthday.  Thanks in advance to anyone who helps.

Common, no one has any ideas?  Well, don't know if this will help, but here's some new data to process.  I noticed that when I was trying to load the firmware with Redsnow w/o installing any options to include Cydia I got errors displayed on the Ipod such as WMR NAND format invalid; NANDLegacyFTL failed.  Someone has got to know something.  I would appreciate any ideas or thoughts from anyone with any idea.  Thanks

  • My ipod touch has a totally black screen and is unresponsive, how do I fix it?

Long story short, my 3rd generation touch is completely unresponsive: black screen and everything. I've tried resetting, no go. Still black. I've tried charging, no go, still black. I can't even reset it because windows doesn't detect it when it's plugged in.
I worked fine an hour previous to its unresponsiveness.
    How can I fix this?

If not successful try the remaining items of:
iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
If not successful that indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.
