I have just rebooted my imac and I get the spinney wheel and then a black screen and then reams of works walking across the screen with no end that say
the date
and then my computer's name and then
MDNSR responder:
and then it says no airport driver found
I have tried rebooting and it has happenned twice
what they heck is going on here????

this all started just after I installed the routine update for the intel machines.

The combo updater allows updating OS X from all levels (of OS X). An incremental updater will permit an update from one level (for example, from OS X 10.5.3 to OS X 10.5.4).

Thanks for the straightforwardness roaminggnome - I wasn't sure if this problem qualified as deseving a reset. Unfortunately, for some reason I can't explain, your response remained undisclosed to me for a while, the next reply after yours took preference and I ended up doing as Meg St.Clair's susgested and initiated download, installation and syncing of Smartsync which is now taking ages to finish... If problem persists shall do the resetting and restoring.

That screen means it has gone into recovery mode. You need to connect to a computer running iTunes by following the instructions in http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1808 for the procedure of recovery mode connection.

Prints in what looks like greek or something ? What the heck gives ???

I've had 3 HP's in 3 years and all eventually had this problem. Why the heck does this suddenly print in what looks like greek every few sentences ? Balance of print is readable. Ready to take gun to this thing !!!! grrr

IMac wont boot after displaying a black screen and then switching off

My iMac screen suddenly went black, with a huge purple cursor and then a text box with hugely magnified text appeared momentarily and then disapeared, (the text block was just the standard "You are now connected to ...... Yes, boot from the install disc and then use Disk Utility to repair the drive:
1. Insert the Mac OS X Install disc that came with your computer, then restart the computer while holding the C key.
2. When your computer finishes starting up from the disc, choose Disk Utility from the Installer menu. (In Mac OS X 10.4 or later, you must select your language first.)
Important: Do not click Continue in the first screen of the Installer. If you do, you must restart from the disc again to access Disk Utility.
3. Click the First Aid tab.
4. Click the disclosure triangle to the left of the hard drive icon to display the names of your hard disk volumes and partitions.
5. Select your Mac OS X volume.
6. Click Repair. Disk Utility checks and repairs the disk.

I am having problems with my computor freezing and going black screen and then coming on again,

remove power cord, take battery out, hold the start button for 4 min, put battery back and press start lightly and hit f8 immediately severals times. it may start up right away or take several times.

iMac boots to black screen and then shows flashing white square in the top left of the screen. After a few seconds an error message - i assume appears.
disc0s2 oxe0030005 undefined appears.
Does anyone know what this is?
Can view HDD using firewire
Can load diagnostic disc and run diagnostics with no errors

The disc0s2 should be your OS X boot volume. Have you tried starting from the Install DVD1? Start from the DVD and when you get to the OS X installer go to Disk Utility in the Utilities menu and select First Aid. Choose the top drive in the left hand column and repair. Repair as many times as necessary until no more repairs are reported. Quit Disk Utility. Then go to Startup Disk in the Utilities menu and choose the OS x volume on your Mac and restart.
Let us know what happens.
