Black Screen, But Responds to Keyboard

I have an eMac with Mac OS X 10.3.9 and Mac OS 9.2.2 installed. It is the most defunct Mac I have ever used (I bought it at a church yard sale.)
The OS X part is fine, which is good as this is the Clasic Mac OS forums.
OS 9 is having issues. At one point, the previous owner decided to nuke the folder containing applications for OS 9. iTunes, AirPort, IE, Mail, Sherlock, etc. is all gone. I thought maybe if I downloaded and installed Mac OS 9.2.2 over Mac OS 9.2.2 it would work fine. Wrong. Now when it boot it shows the Happy Mac, says "Welcome to Mac OS" and then displays a black screen. When on this black screen, the light that "beats" (for lack of a better term) to show when the Mac is asleep is solid. When I press a button such as the eject button the disk tray pops out.
I have tried pressing the "X" key while booting to no avail. It still goes straight to 9.2.2. It now is performing a verification of "Macintosh HD" since I had to do a hard shutdown to shut it down after the black screen. If I choose "stop," it goes to a "Starting up..." screen then goes to the black screen again. The progress bar only progress about 1/8 of the way and the disk verification found no issues.
If I press and hold the "Option" key I only can boot to Classic as I set Classic as the start up disk. Holding shift does nothing either. I don't know if there is a Verbose mode or Single-User mode in Classic, but it should work anyway with an eMac, but neither of those worked. Resetting the PRAM didn't provide any better results, either.
After the screen goes black, the hard drive still revs and the fans are running quite loudly. Again, it will respond to keyboard and mouse input as it revs more when I press a button and it can eject the disk drive.
Would Target Disk Mode to another Mac to at least preserve the files work, or would that even be pointless? I have no install disks as I bought it at a yard sale.
Any help of any sort would be appreciated.

There is a sort-of equivalent to OSX's Safe Boot for OS 9 - hold down the Shift key from the time the startup chimes sound, and the OS will boot with Extensions Disabled. Since you are getting the Welcome screen, this may work.
When holding down the X key to force a boot using OS X, be sure to press the X key about the time the startup chimes sound, and keep it held down until you know for sure it has started to boot to OS X.
There is another way to get back to OSX - boot the machine to an appropriate CD, then use the Startup Disk on the CD's OS to select OS X on the hard drive. Then do a normal restart.

If your eMac is one of the original models, that should have been okay.
However, if your eMac is one of the later models, one with ATI graphics and a CD-ROM or Combo drive, it can use only the model-specific version of OS 9.2.2 that shipped with it for booting. The OS 9.2.2 download updater is not 'new' enough to support it. If this is the case, it should not have been possible to install the OS 9.2.2 download updater on top of newer (more recent) software elements. Unfortunately errors do happen on ocasion, and if you do have this later model and the updater did install, the ATI extension set in the OS may not be sufficient for the hardware.

Try:
- Another cable
- Another USB port
- Reboot the computer
- iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
- Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode

- If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
- Try on another computer
- If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

Make sure all of the videos used in the project that is having that problem are from the same event. If they are from multiple events, move them all into one event.

Try a reset: hold down the home button along with the sleep/wake button until you see the apple, then let go. (No data loss)

That one's consistent with disk/file damage. The first thing I'd try with that is running a disk check (chkdsk) over your C drive.

Select both Automatically fix file system errors and Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors, or use chkdsk /r (depending on which way you decide to go about doing this). You'll almost certainly have to schedule the chkdsk to run on startup. The scan should take quite a while ... if it quits after a few minutes or seconds, something's interfering with the scan.
Does the chkdsk find/repair any damage? If so, can you get an install to go through properly afterwards?

Ok I checked and unchecked the playback via camera yesterday and I got black screen both times.
I could delete the imovie prefs when I go over there today.
I'll try another FW cable but it worked perfectly for importing but what the heck I've got one I'll try it.
Yes camera was set to play and not record.
Plenty of free space -- 131 GB.
I'm pretty sure it's in NTSC DV format, but it's someone else's computer so it could have been changed by someone screwin' around not knowing what they're doing making changes.

IPhone 6 black screen but works

After getting to work, I come to find out that my iPhone 6 has a black screen. Before that time, it worked just fine until I took it out of my pocket later this morning. The phone shows a black screen, but the buttons still work (the mute switch works; every time I mute it the phone vibrates). I tried connecting it to iTunes and it shows the phone. I assume that the screen has been bricked. I previously had a time where my phone was covered in rain water. That also explain why I have been experiencing crashes on my phone which led me to doing a hard restart. I have the choice of taking it back to my carrier as I'm still under warranty or I can try find out and fix this bug myself.
Any Suggestions?

IIf you did a reset and screen remained black then it's a hardware issue, not a bug. You should return it under warranty if you still can. Any other attemp to fix on your own is probably going to void your warranty.

If the unit has NEVER been jailbroke, first try a system reset. It cures many ills and it's quick, easy and harmless... Hold down the on/off switch and the Home button simultaneously until you see the Apple logo. Ignore the "Slide to power off" text if it appears. You will not lose any apps, data, music, movies, settings, etc.
If the Reset doesn't work, try a Restore. Note that it's nowhere near as quick as a Reset. It could take well over an hour! Connect via cable to the computer that you use for sync. From iTunes, select the iPad/iPod and then select the Summary tab. Follow the on-screen directions for Restore and be sure to say "yes" to the backup. You will be warned that all data (apps, music, movies, etc.) will be erased but, as the Restore finishes, you will be asked if you wish the contents of the backup to be copied to the iPad/iPod. Again, say "yes."
At the end of the basic Restore, you will be asked if you wish to sync the iPad/iPod. As before, say "yes." Note that that sync selection will disappear and the Restore will end if you do not respond within a reasonable time. If that happens, only the apps that are part of the IOS will appear on your device. Corrective action is simple - choose manual "Sync" from the bottom right of iTunes.
If you're unable to do the Restore, go into Recovery Mode per the instructions here. You WILL lose all of your data (game scores, etc,) but, for the most part, you can redownload apps and music without being charged again. Also, if you have IOS-7, read this.

Black screen, but still lit

I changed the battery thing a few times from "better performance" to "energy saver” about 4 times over a period of a few hours, it would act like it was switching from the regular screen to the screen saver, but the screen saver never came up. And sometimes this would happen while I was working, so it shouldn't be going to the screen saver at all. The screen would be black, but still lit up. I tried to press buttons to get it to the desktop, but it wouldn't do anything. It was in between asleep and awake. I had to restart it by holding down the power button.
The next day, I changed the battery setting again to try to fix it, but it did this same thing in a shorter amount of time (like 5 times in 5 minutes) The last time, it started "breathing" like it was turning on, but it never actually came on. I had to disconnect the battery to get it to stop.
Then, this morning, it worked fine for a few hours, but again while I was working, it did the same thing. I just restarted it again, but this time it didn't even come on. It went straight to the dark, lit screen. I turned it off and waited awhile. The next time I tried it, it went straight to the dark screen.
So, each time I would try it, it would boot less and less before finally dieing. The whole time the battery was fully charged. It would do it when it was plugged in and when it wasn't. I could hear the computer running.
Any comments? I just don't know what's wrong or what to do. From reading this, I think it would be the failed logic board problems with the battery problems, but like I said, the whole time the battery was fully charged.

When the display turns off, it goes through three stages: 1. the screen dims, 2. the screen goes black, 3. the keyboard backlight turns off. Tapping the spacebar or swiping the trackpad anytime during stage 1 will reset the timer. Tapping the keyboard or swiping the trackpad during stage 2 will freeze the black screen with the keyboard lit up. Waiting until stage three to tap the spacebar will wake up the display and everything is fine.
There is less than a one-second window between stages 2 and 3 while the screen is black but the keyboard is still fading that touching the input devices will hang the machine.
This can be reproduced on all mid-2013 MBA's, fresh out of the box, running Mountain Lion or Mavericks. Getting a new machine will not fix it, unless they do a hardware upgrade to fix it.

IPod nano (5th Generation) Black Screen but still plays Music

Problem:
I see a black screen and no backlit normal screen - there's a faint Apple Logo when the device is turned on.
I can navigate the scroll wheel and hear the audible "clicks" when circling the scroll wheel.
I can push play and it will play music just fine. FF, Rewind, Menu, Play/pause all work correctly.
Tried the following:
Menu + Select + held down for 5-10 seconds. faint apple logo dissapppears then I push Play and it re-appears. Still plays music just fine but screen still black with faint apple logo and no back light.
Restore Factory Settings via iTunes. It erased all media. put a song on there to test. can play song but same issue (no back light OS, just black + faint apple logo on the display)
Tried Rewind + select to enter diagnostics - nothing happens, same issue
Please help.

Curve 8520 black screen but have sound

I've had problems before with the white screen but then a few days ago my screen was black but I was getting sound land flashing light wen I receive n messages/ emails and rings when I get calls. When I pull the battery it comes back on and screen shows for 2minutes but none of the keys will work anow then it goes black again ! Can anyone help me please ?

On wake from screensaver, black screen, but functional swipe?

Recently, when I return to my computer after the display has gone to sleep (or the screensaver has activated), my screen goes black. Sometimes I have the spinny beachball, but sometimes it's just a pointer. I do not suspect any high CPU usage since I do not hear my fan. The strange thing is, if I use my 4-finger gesture to switch between spaces and full-screen apps, I can see my applications until the sliding animation finishes, at which point it returns to black. Once, when I caught it just right (during/after the animation), I got a dialog box to appear ("are you sure you want to close all tabs" or something similar) at which point I could use my computer again, until I clicked the "OK" button, which made it go back to the black screen. The only way I've been able to make it go away permanently is to hold down the power button to force a shut-down and reboot.

I thought I would try something that has been used in many trouble shooting situations where there might be a hardware or software problem with the computer. Creating a new user account. While I do have another account to sign into on this computer. I chose to simply "log out" and let the computer go to sleep and later see if it wakes up. Sure enough it does wake up. And acts normally. I'm not sure if logging out is the same as another user account.
What if there is something in my main account causing the "wake from sleep" problem. Outside of "permissions" and "running scripts" to clean up accounting. What can I use to trouble shoot which situation is causing this? I've used a couple of pref checkers but with no luck. Log doesn't show what happens while computer is a sleep. Only reports time it went to sleep. And nothing about trouble waking up. I have seen a lot of wrong permissions in cups iofn the reports. And there are not fixed when trying to repair. Especially, in the Colorsync first aid.
Any advice? Or should I wait for 10.5.6 to see if it corrects my problem before I reinstall software?

P.S.-the only software I have installed with nightly builds is the WebKit for Safari. It is much faster than Safari. Not sure why Safari is slugging/slowing it.
