Black Screen, computer working

Hi, I accidentally hit the wrong thing as I was swiping right to turn it off. The screen went black and the computer was still working. I dont know how to fix it! Cheers

Sorry for not answering sooner, and thx for the reply BDAqua!
Can't see the faint desktop, it really seams that only the display is off...
Another think to notice is that when I'm reinstalling the software (mountain lion, always updated, and the problem had started with OS 10.7) or try in find a hardware problem (with the Command + D hardware test, that takes almost 1 h to complete, with my 2tb hd) the display never seems to turn off...
I really can't figure out, but some time i suspect a HD problem, because of it's noise and since i had problems with it before...
Thx again!

In win7 there is a shortcut to alter the display (WINKEY+P). Try use this. If not work, maybe a problem with the cable of the notebook display.

  • Black screen nothing working

my ipod touch was hot at the bottom rear when i picked it up. for no reason. the display worked ok but didnt let me slide to unlock or slide to switch off. i have since fully charged it, fully discharged it several times and the screen remains black no matter which buttons i press. i have tried the reset by pressing top and bottom button for 10 seconds still nothing happening. It is now not recognised by the computer when i switch it on. or the tone from the computer when the usb is connected. iv not dropped or damaged the ipod in any way. any help here would be appreciated. thanks in advance, kevin

I agree, the black screen with 3beep error is a very common problem and the only solution is a replacement board. I suggest you read some of the other topics in this forum on the subject, many have good and useful info in them and there is also a lot of misinformation out there too, as well as an abundance of improperly repaired boards, so it's best to educate yourself before looking into repair options.

  • IPhone 6 black screen but works

After getting to work, I come to find out that my iPhone 6 has a black screen. Before that time, it worked just fine until I took it out of my pocket later this morning. The phone shows a black screen, but the buttons still work (the mute switch works; every time I mute it the phone vibrates). I tried connecting it to iTunes and it shows the phone. I assume that the screen has been bricked. I previously had a time where my phone was covered in rain water. That also explain why I have been experiencing crashes on my phone which led me to doing a hard restart. I have the choice of taking it back to my carrier as I'm still under warranty or I can try find out and fix this bug myself.
    Any Suggestions?
    Many thanks
iPhone 6 running the latest iOS

IIf you did a reset and screen remained black then it's a hardware issue, not a bug. You should return it under warranty if you still can. Any other attemp to fix on your own is probably going to void your warranty.

  • Satellite T130 -Black screen- HDMI works perfectly

The problem started as a HDMI-cable was plugged into my running Satellite T130-17E and the screen was closed down. From that point the notebook screen stopped working. When booting the windows start-up logo is on for a couple of seconds and just before the entering the desktop the cursor is visible on the screen. But except from these short moments there is no action on the notebooks screen. When I reinstalled the driver to the graphic card there was some short moments (less than 0,5 sec) when the screen was active.
I can use the notebook without any problems via HDMI to my TV. And when I adjust the screens brightness (FN+F6/F7) the black screen can get more back-lighted.
When I turn off the HDMI-output or plugs it out - nothing happens on the notebooks screen.
Can some of you please try to help me out as I really need my notebook to work normal again. If you can help me sort out this problem I'll be very grateful-
    Kind Regards,
    Jacob Lindberg

When I use FN+F5 to use LCD only - there is a very short moment when i can see the dekstop on the notebook screen, but then it turns black again.
When I try to duplicate the output on HDMI and on the notebook screen - the notebook black is very backlighted when compared to the notebook screen when only the HDMI-output is used. When I switch between the different options on FN+F5 there is som very short moments when some the the notebook screen is active - but it is like a millisecond.
Is there any thing else I can do?

  • T61p black screen, nothing working

My 8-year-old D has a Lenovo T61p Thinkpad. When she went to boot it up today all it did was give three beeps and then nada. No screen, no sounds, no anything. Nothing I do has any effect, not booting from F1, not hitting the Thinkvantage  button.
    Now what?

  • IPod has a black screen, nothing working, can't reset or restore

I have had my iPod for almost a year, and this is the first problem I've had with it. It showed a white screen for a day, but then it went black, and nothing is working on it. When I connect it to my computer, nothing shows up on the iPod about it being connected, or on the laptop. Anyone know what to do??

Hello. My iPod nano 4G 8GB has the same EXACT problem. I can't seem to fix it. Apple told me t switch to hold then, switch to on/off then, press MENU and OK buttons for 6-10 seconds to turn it off... I did this and it happened. ...  Unfortunatly, I don't know what to do next.

  • Blank Pale Screen, computer works fine when connected to external vid

My powerbook has been working fine, though I've been living in a very hot place so it has been subjected to extreme heat at times. One day, put it to sleep before a meeting, when I opened it to wake it up, it showed only a blank greyish/white/pale blueish screen. I rebooted, same thing. The computer makes the startup chime, the caps lock, volume and even brightness keys all work, there is just no image. When it should be showing the apple startup logo, the screen is slightly paler with really faint white lines running along center right. When it should be showing the desktop, it is blank with a small circle of slightly brighter light in the upper right hand. Connected it to an external monitor and was able to get my data off and work on it just fine. A week later, still no change to display. What's wrong? What can I do? (This computer is obviously outside of warranty and apple care as it was purchased in 2005)

Your video cable or your LCD panel has failed. If there is no change in what appears on the screen when you change its tilt angle, the LCD is probably at fault. If changing the screen's angle causes any change in the displayed image, the fault is probably in the cable. Apple's response to either fault would be to replace the entire display assembly, which includes the cable. That would cost a great deal — probably more than the machine is worth in good working condition. You could buy a good used display and install it yourself for less, if you're up for a DIY challenge:
    http://www.ifixit.com/Guide/Browse/PowerBook
If you're not, you may want to start looking for another machine.

  • 3gs 32gb - black screen, nothing works..

I was playng a game on the iphone and then i went on the laptop while the game was still on, so it went on standby. Now i cant turn it on anymore..
    I tried a lot..
I tried plugging it into my laptop, nothing itunes is not detecting it.
I plugged it into the wall socket, nothing
I let somebody call me, nothing
I put it on quiet, dont feel any vibration
I tried to hard reset it, nothing even after 1 minute holding the buttons down
I took out my sim card, nothing
It had like 80% battery when it stopped and ive been having it charging for about 30 min now, the weird thing is, the iphone is feeling pretty warm, warmer then normal so i just hope it wont explode in my face.
PS. i did not unlock it or jailbreak it or anything, all is standard.
anyone have an idea what else there is i can do?

See if you can force the phone into recovery mode:
Leave the USB cable connected to your computer, but NOT your phone, itunes running, press & hold the home button while connecting the USB cable to your dock connector, continue holding the home button until you see “Connect to iTunes” on the screen. You may now release the home button. iTunes should now display that it has detected your phone in recovery mode, if not quit and reopen iTunes. If you still don’t see the recovery message repeat these steps again. iTunes will give you the option to restore from a backup or set up as new.
If this doesn't work, you may very well have a hardware failure and your next step would be to make an appointment at an Apple store.

  • Black Screen - Backlights work

    Dear all,
I was working on my MacBook pro this afternoon when *the screen of my MBP suddently turned to black*. However, the *backlight still works* and I'm able to modify the brightness of the screen. Moreover, *my second monitor is still working* and I'm able to write this line thanks to it.
At the opposit of the other threads, *I didn't put my mbp in sleep mode before it happened*.
I've already tried several manipulations such as _Resetting the SMC_ and _the PRAM_.
My Laptop is a *MacBook Pro 3,1*, late 2008
    Thanks,
    Antony

  • Experiencing Black screen/ Computer is on but screen looks like it is off.

Well recently i have been noticing that the screen on my all in one desktop has been going dark. Not like the usually hibernating kind of dark screen but more so computer it off screen. There was even a point in which i was in a messaging program and the screen went really dark in the middle of my typing. No messages about the graphic failing or anything like that showed up so im abit scared that my computer may be dying.  I have been rummaging through this support forums and looking for people with similar issues and i came across something that said the Bios may need to be updated of something to that extent. SO, i have been trying to figure out how to do that but when i search my product no updates show up or anything so im beginning to think my product has become obselete. That being said how would i go about getting these update i so crucially need and how can i prevent my computer from dying. All help will be greatly appreciated and i do need a computer because my family is starting a business and this computer is a vital role in said business.

    - Looking for info on how to update BIOS
    - Preformed a factory restore i January if i recall correctly.
    - Also when i go to the support page i cant even identify my machine
    - Support pages has no updates listed (kinda seems as though my product has been forgotten)

    Hi @Xhinzo,
Here is the product page for your computer. You can check the Software and Drivers section and use Option 2 if it's not able to detect your specific product, then select your operating system and see what's available.
When the screen goes dark, if you shine a flashlight on it can you see anything in the darkness? I'm wondering if it might be a hardware problem -- maybe the backlight is going out. Have you tried using an external monitor or connecting it to your TV, to see if the darkening problem occurs on a separate screen?

  • Black screen gnome and kde, openbox fine

I installed the testing xorg a month or so back and it naturally broke my system (i use ati and fglrx). I downgraded the relevant packages and am no longer using the testing rep, but now gdm comes up fine, but logging into gnome or kde4-mod just gives me a black screen with working mouse. Openbox works fine however, i've been using that but would like to see how kde4 has progressed. Any ideas? Couldn't find anything by searching.

  • Liquify tool displays a black screen

Liquify tool does not work properly. Displays a black screen while working on a .jpeg file. My system configuaration is:
    OS: Windows 8 (64 bit),
    Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-3632QM CPU @ 2.20GHz,
    RAM: 8 GB DDR3,
    HD: 1TB,
    Resolution: 1366 x 768 Pixel,
Graphics: Dedicated Graphics Memory Type: AMD Radeon HD 8730M, 2 GB, DDR3

    Refer to this:
I can’t see my images and only get a black screen (or strange pattern).
Liquify is GPU accelerated. Update the driver or turn off GPU stuff.
