Black screen even in safe mode
Basically what the title says. The story is that I got the "black screen after log in but cursor is there" problem. I looked up online and it said I should restart in safe mode to disable the display driver. I did just that and set it safe mode minimal. When I re-boot it up it's just a black screen. If I move the cursor it says *safe mode* on 4 corners of the screen but that's it there's nothing else on the screen.
Hi, last try is to install os manually, a clean os Install (way to go here)

Hi there ,
Thank you for visiting the HP Support Forums and Welcome! I have looked into the issue you are having with your display Turning Black after entering Safe Mode. I found a document for you called Troubleshooting Black Screen Displays with No Error Messages During Startup or Boot. It would be very helpful for me to know what has been done already so that I can narrow down what troubleshooting would be best for you. You mentioned in your post "again". Is it an intermittent issue? Please follow these provided troubleshooting steps, re-post with the results of the steps in the document, and any other troubleshooting steps you had tried and the results. Have a great day! -
Outlook 2013 stuck at splash screen even on safe mode
I was trying to add in an IMAP account to my Outlook 2013, when it hanged, so I forced-stop it via Task Manager and tried to restart the application. But right now, it's forever stuck at "Loading Profile" the splash screen. I tried to restart it
in safe mode too, but experiencing the same problem.
Help?Hi altern4te,
First, perform a clean boot to find out about programs which are interrupting the Outlook. So, you will accurately understand the cause of this hang up.
It can be antivirus programs or something else.
For more about clean boot in Windows:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/331796
Note:
As you are not able to open Outlook in safe mode, you cannot disable the add-ins which generally cause behind such types of disturbance.
Hopefully clean boot method will solve it, otherwise this can happen due to corrupt Outlook Data File or Outlook profile.
To fix corruption and its issue:

Screen freezes, even in safe mode and in BIOS
I’m working on a friend’s laptop: Toshiba, Satellite M65 - S9092
Original problem: The laptop started shutting down after few minutes of use. (Probable overheating)
Took the laptop apart and clean it out. The heatsink, fan and outlets were really plugged up. Put it back together and did a clean re-install, Windows XP. Had few issues with USB drivers not being recognized but worked it out. Ran stress test for a whole day, no problem.
Worked for few days and then USB wasn’t being recognized again and the screen started freezing up. Re-installed os again but it is still freezing up after few minutes, and stays that way till hard shut down.
Screen freezes even in safe mode and in BIOS. (No blue screens)
Switched existing RAM’s around (2 - 512MB), one stick, two sticks, etc…still freezing up. Wanted to upgrade the BIOS but can’t get pass the screen freezing. Not sure if the motherboard may be shot from previous overheating or need new RAM. Don’t want to spend money till I’m sure I’m replacing the right part.
Any assistance is appreciated.Hi there... I have a satellite A70 - S256 an it was freezing up the same way. I downloaded an OS named UBUNTU fron the internet free of charge. once you download it an burn it to cd you can then boot from it after a couple of tries ( due to freezing). When it boots select your language immediately and choose the option to run memory tests (both installed and BIOS) and let it do its thing for as long as it takes. you should boot from UBUNTU on another working pc to get familiar with it if you are not allready so that you make your selection quickly before it freezes. You may have to reboot a few times depending on freezing while the memory test is in progress and how much progress is made. This procedure fixed mines and I never had those problems again.

Can't load Disqus comments even in safe mode
Even in Safe Mode with all add-ons disabled, I can't load Disqus comments on any site. I have also tried enabling third-party cookies and pop-up windows and made sure all my plug-ins are up to date. I don't know what else to try.
I get the message "DISQUS seems to be taking longer than usual. Reload?". When I reload I get the same message again after a few seconds. Sometimes the comments will flash on the screen for an instant and then disappear.
This is on Mac OS 10.6.8.I don't know why your About window would say you are up-to-date if you do not have Firefox 15.
(There is an extended support release (ESR) version of Firefox 10 for companies that want their IT departments to closely manage Firefox, but that currently is numbered more like 10.0.7.)
It is possible that Firefox is incorrectly reporting its version to the forum software. If your About dialog shows a version other than 10.0.2, you might have the issues described in this article: [[Websites say that Firefox is outdated or incompatible even though it's the latest version]]. -
2007 Mac Pro will not boot, even in safe mode
Hello,
I have a Mac Pro purchased in 2007 that had been working well up until a few months ago. I had trouble with Microsoft Word 2008 repeatedly crashing; I repaired the hard disk and moved up to Word 2011, and the problem seemed to resolve.
Yesterday, the machine crashed, and I am not able to start it up, even in safe mode. I have tried resetting the SMC and NVRAM/PRAM, removed and cleaned the graphics card (NVIDIA 7300 GT), and removed the 3rd party RAM I installed at least 2 years ago.
When booting to the internal hard drive, the Apple logo will show, then a blue screen followed by a gray screen with a frozen cursor. When I boot to an external hard drive or the OSX Leopard install DVD, the screen flickers like below:
When I tried to boot in safe mode while holding shift + command + V, the safe boot froze after reading:
panic (cpu 2 caller 0x2abf6a): kernal trap at 0x0029a4bc, type 14= page fault, registries:
[4 lines of 2-3 letter acronyms and numbers]
Error code: 0x00000000
I am thinking of buying a new graphics card (ATI Radeon 5700), but I want to be sure (as much as possible) that will solve the problem I am having. Any suggestions would be very much appreciated!
Thank you,
Cherylreplace the system drive
always clone your system
yes dump the 7300 if you plan to keep using it and use Lion
A clean install would be nice start, on say 120GB SSD or something too
And 2x2GB FBDIMM set is $30 if you need a set
AHT is on your OEM DVD from 20007
dust, temps and air flow is also important -
I tried to update Firefox and repeatedly get this message: "Your computer must be restarted to complete a previous upgrade of Firefox. Do you want to reboot now? " If I click no, nothing happens. If I click yes, it reboots, and I get the same message all over again. I have tried to uninstall the program and get the same message, even in Safe Mode. I tried to start with a previous system configuration, but the computer would not give me any previous configuration dates. I am using XP, and I deleted Internet Explorer, so I cannot access the Internet on that computer. I have tried to install the update by downloading the upgrade on a different computer and transfer it on a flash drive, but I got the same results. If I go to Control Panel/Add or Remove Programs, it says I have Firefox Version 13.0.1. For approximately 6 months previous to this incident, I have been getting a message when I load Firefox, that says that it could not install an attempted update. If I clicked okay, at least it would still run the old version. Now it won't even do that.
Download a fresh Firefox copy and save the file to the desktop.
*Firefox 20.0.x: http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/all.html
Uninstall your current Firefox version, if possible, to cleanup the Windows registry and settings in security software.
*Do NOT remove personal data when you uninstall your current Firefox version, because all profile folders will be removed and you will also lose your personal data like bookmarks and passwords from profiles of other Firefox versions.
Remove the Firefox program folder before installing that newly downloaded copy of the Firefox installer.
*It is important to delete the Firefox program folder to remove all the files and make sure that there are no problems with files that were leftover after uninstalling.
Your bookmarks and other profile data are stored in the Firefox Profile Folder and won't be affected by an uninstall and (re)install, but make sure that "remove personal data" is NOT selected when you uninstall Firefox.

Firefox crashes as soon as I click on the icon. Even in safe mode. I've tried all options of resolving this problem but nothing is working. I really hate using Safari and Chrome. Please help!
Scan your computer in safe mode for bots, malware, trojan's and viruses. Remove any Found and reboot. If Problem still exists, go to control panel, add/remove programs remove firefox. and then download and reinstall firefox. Remember to always close as many running programs like messangers and widgetts when installing any program. This should fix your problem. only other option is to do a system restore to when you were not having any problems, this works 90% of time.

I was trying to change settings to access the comments section of Slate.com. Right or wrong, I changed a Java setting from -1 to 2. The setting was in about:config and I believe it involved some sort of max. As I cannot open anything, I am not sure.
When I made the change, firefox crashed immediately, Every time I have tried to reopen, even in safe mode, it immediately crashes again and will not reopen.Hi pternagy,
Sorry you are having problems.
For future reference. Those of us that mess directly with about:config soon learn how to recover from mistakes and what it is sensible to backup. Occasionally backing up your entire profile for instance can be useful and would have probably given you a quick solution of copying over the file from that backup.
*[[Back up and restore information in Firefox profiles]]
Ok on to the subject of trying to get Firefox back as it was:
Find your profile and the file ''prefs.js'' and rename that. (The renamed file is a potentially useful backup.) Firefox is then forced to regenerate the file and will reset your preferences to the default. You can then re open and use Firefox. Next try to get it back to normal.
Trying to manually edit the file ''prefs.js'' is normally a bad idea. However if it is a single pref change it may be possible to directly edit the prefs.js file (whilst Firefox is closed) to get everything back to how it was before . You have the renamed file to work with. Probably best to test all this out in a new additional profile then you only break additional test profiles not working profiles essential to Firefox.
These articles should help you:

*[[Profiles - Where Firefox stores your bookmarks, passwords and other user data#w_finding-your-profile-without-opening-firefox]]#w_finding-your-profile-without-opening-firefox

Please post back with how you get on and whether you need any extra help.

Office 2013 Home & Business Edition - None of the application (Word, Powerpoint, Excel or Outlook) is opening, not even in safe mode.. I tried to run the application in compatibility mode by right clicking the excel.exe and choosing the compatibility
mode, still no success. It is installed on Windows 7 Professional SP1. All the latest updates are already installed. I have also tried Microsoft fixit, but still no Success. Please help!!I'm so sorry that I forgot the Office programs even not open in safe mode and provide useless information in my last reply.
The problem persists when we perform a Windows clean boot, right?
Were the Office programs suddenly not working? Or it just can’t be open after you install it? Did you get any error message?
If you haven’t try a repair of your Office installation, we can try it to check the result:
http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/project-help/repair-office-programs-HA010357402.aspx
In addition, try to use Event Viewer to see if we can get some useful error log about this problem. See:

Can't Boot after crash, even in safe mode!
My Mac froze while idle with Lightroom open. It may have hung while remotely copying something off an external hard drive.
But now it won't boot even in safe mode with all USB peripherals detached (including the hard drive that I might have been copying from).
In and out of safe mode, I get the same behavior. After the sound and the grey apple appear, there is also a progress bar, which I don't recal seeing before. It takes about 30 seconds and the progress bar advances about 10-15% of the way and then just power's off.
Is it the main disk drive?
This is an iMac that is several years old with all of software update applied. I don't believe that any software updates were applied recently. I assume that the 10.6.3 update was installed.
Is it the main disk drive?I had the same problem on my MacBOOk Pro and iMac on 14th April - i had to reformat the harddisk and could restore from my Timemachine backup to the last 10.6.2 state only. Both happended after updating to 10.6.3. But my laptop was sluggish. Based on feedback, I reformatted my hard disk and carried out a fressh installation from my snow leopard disk (10.6) and updated it to 10.6.3 using the 10.6.3v1.1 combo update about a week back. The machine was definitely faster - but yesterday, the same problem reoccurred - the machine froze and would not boot even in safe mode. Repairing the hard disk using the boot CD did not work either. Just now I reinstalled Snow leopard from the OSx CD - it has replaced the OS and left all apps and data intact. I have upgraded it to 10.6.2 only.
My desktop iMac has been running without problems on 10.6.2 for the last 3 weeks. In my opinion, the problems of freezing (reported by others) and this one here are all related to boot sector corruption due to some problem in 10.6.3. There have been some reports suggesting that after 10.6.3, the CPUs are heating up more. The CPU temp was close to 70 deg C when on 10.6.3 - it maybe that some change after the update makes the processor overrun leading to this boot sector corruption - it generally happens slowly over days or weeks slowly accumulating to a break down point.
My suggestion from my experience over the last one month, is stick to 10.6.2 - don't update to 10.6.3. I am hoping Apple will fix the problems in 10.6.3 update soon. -
I have downloaded the latest Security Update from the Apps store, TWICe and neither time has it taken when installing. I then kept clicking and found a version specific to Mountain Lion, which I downloaded. That didn;t take on installation either, not even in Safe Mode. I have a VERY small amount of GB's per month (10 GB) and am increasingly frustrated with having tod ownload stuff that doesn't seem to work. AND the #1 hovering on the App symbol in the dock drives me nuts. Especially after downloading the same update now THREE TIMES?! Can anyon e help me to understand what's going on, or indeed how to make this thing work?
Same here.
Using AppStore twice: "unknown error"
I thought it might be because the AppStore installation didn't have access to my system keychain for administrator privileges, so I downloading manually, opened the DMG and ran the installer. I got the prompt for my password and the installer went almost to the end, including the "optimizing" step, but still same result:
The installation failed
The Installer encountered an error that caused the installation to fail. Contact the software manufacturer for assistance.
MacBook Pro 15"
OS X 10.8.5
2.2 GHz Intel Core i7
8 GB 1333MHz DDR3
So how does one contact the manufacturer?
Since upgrading to Mountain Lion, I have noticed many more application crashes (on launch, on quit or at random times), spinning beachballs and use of the Force Quit hotkeys. Maybe Apple should pay more attention to its computer business instead of playing in the fashion biz. -

after doing the recovery, I am getting message that firefox is running and I can't get a browser up. Have uninstalled and reinstalled several times, even in safe mode. All cookies out. have rebooted several times. all to no avail. I can't reset it if I can't get a browser and find no button on your page to reset. Can someone tell what to do?
Note that using System Restore can cause your Firefox installation to get corrupted because not all files are restored (only files in a white-list), so be cautious with using System Restore.
*You may lose data in the Firefox profile folder like .js and .ini files.
*You may need to (re)install software that was affected.
In case you need to reinstall Firefox then you need to delete the Firefox program folder before reinstalling to make sure that all files get replaced.

Firefox won't start (not even in Safe Mode) on Windows 7 x64
I am Running Windows 7 x64 and Firefox 3.6.15.
Since the day before yesterday I am unable to start Firefox. Even in Safe Mode it just won't start.
I click the Firefox icon, the mouse cursor changes to indicate the computer is doing something. After 3 seconds or so the mouse cursor again changes back to its default state. Nothing else happens.
The Task Manager in Windows shows me that an instance of firefox.exe is running, but I see no Firefox window.
Then if I again click to open Firefox, another firefox.exe instance starts, but again I see no Firefox window.
There isn't even a warning about one instance of Firefox already running.
What I have tried:
I have uninstalled Firefox, removed all the Firefox files and folders from c:\users\username\AppData\Local and Roamning. I re-downloaded the 3.6.15 installation package and re-installed.
No change.I have the same problem.
The only Firefox version working is the 64bit nightly build 6.0a1. No 32Bit version of Firefox works!. Chrome, Safari and Internet Explorer all work well.
Another Problem I have in this context is, that the Firefox Installer hangs in the tidy up step - even for the nightly 64Bit version. I have to kill the setup.exe process but the Installation seems to be completed.
Before my change to Win7 64Bit I had OpenText NFS Solo 14 installed on a 32Bit Windows7 and no Problems.
Is there a solution for this problem without uninstalling OpenText NFS Solo 14?
I need the NFS Server at work.
