Black screen flashing constantly recent upgrade to Yosemite

I upgraded to Yosemite yesterday on my brand new macbook pro with retina display and this morning i had some issues with my fonts so as i was looking in the library folder to try and find the font problem all of a sudden my screen went black and then started flashing every second to the normal screen and back to black. Now i can't even log in with out it constantly flashing black - can anyone help as i've no idea what i've done to it or how to resolve the issue because i can't get onto it!

I managed to solve mine by rebooting my mac in recovery mode (hold down cmd + R when you turn on) then reformatting and re-installing OX S Yosemite. Unfortunately it means loosing all your stuff but it's stopped the problem for me! Hope this helps.

  • Recently upgrade to Yosemite and now Apple symbol and install bar displays each time I restart

    Hi guys,
Hoping someone can help. Recently upgraded to Yosemite and the other day I noticed that when restarting the Apple symbol displayed along with the install bar (just like happens when you upgrade your iPhone). This went on for about 30 seconds before the login screen displayed. This now happens every time I restart. I haven't downloaded and tried to install any files so I am not sure why this keeps happening.
I am worried it might be malware or similar that is trying to work into the operating system. I have disconnected WiFi and timed the restart to check the logs (although I have no idea what I am looking for). The Apple System Log (ASL) Message log seamed to have a number of fail messages and 'installation' lines so hopefully this will make sense to someone. Below is the log for that 30 seconds of the install.

    Hi Blotontheland,
Thanks for the prompt reply. The interesting thing is that my Macbook Pro was upgraded today to Yosemite and I still have the spinning wheel on the start up screen before the login page comes up.

  • When Mac reboots to Install XP black Screen Flashing Dash (-) stuck.

when Mac reboots to Install XP black Screen Flashing Dash and I think its the press any key screen but on a Mac its Just Flashing Dash .
I press every button going and nothing happens.
and my only option is to turn off the mac to boot back in OSX.
MacBook trying to Install Windows XPSP3 disk.

I too am having the same problem. I do not know about the host of this thread, but I have been using a brick and mortar version of XP SP2 stand alone so it is not bundled with a computer like Dell, HP, etc.
I have run it before just fine but it was time to reformat the drive, 0'd everything out, reinstalled 10.5.2, upgraded everything, repaired permissions and them ran Boot Camp. Put in the XP disc and all I get is the flashing dash mark in the upper left hand corner. I actually have 2 legal versions of XP SP2 stand alone and the same result on both discs so it has to be something with the partioning? I also redid the partitioning at various sizes all with the same effect. No luck.
    Any new thoughts anyone?

  • Black screen flashes before opening gmail

Hi, recently I updated to Firefox 4.0. Since then, every time I visit gmail.com a black screen appears. After a split second it disappears again and the usual gmail log in screen shows up. Why is that and how can I get rid of that black screen flashing before gmail loads? Has it something to do with the ad-ons adblock, flashblock and noscript I installed? They never caused any trouble in Firefox 3.x

A possible cause is security software (firewall) that blocks or restricts Firefox or the plugin-container process without informing you, possibly after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox program.
Remove all rules for Firefox from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full unrestricted access to internet for Firefox and the plugin-container process and the updater process.

If you want just the originals, then you can go into the Aperture library (right click on it and do "show package contents"). Inside is a directory called "Masters" and you can find the original files in a bunch of subfolders.
But... you'll lose all adjustments, keywords, and other information, and just have the files as they were imported originally from the cameras.
Easiest is probably to buy Aperture and update everything, and then migrate to the Photos application down the road if that's what you want. Aperture 3.0 came out in 2010 (five years ago!) so it's not like you've upgraded in a while

What can I do to recover the rest of the file?

  • I recently upgraded to Yosemite, I now have issues with the length of time it takes to boot up my macbook.

I have recently upgraded to Yosemite, this took hours and hours......
Now I have problems with booting/starting my macbook, in that it starts with the apple icon and progress bar this seems to hang about half way and takes forever and a day.
Anyone else had this, any possible solutions......getting fed up now!!!!

Forever and a day can be over five minutes  (which I feel is way too long for a year old Mac).
Sometimes I restart it (five second press on on/off button) and this enables it to boot up fully, but still too long to boot up.

  • I recently upgraded to Yosemite and now I can't open iPhoto.  I understand that there is a new app (photos) but I can not find this app on my computer

I recently upgraded to Yosemite but I can not locate the photos app.  It is not in finder - where do I look for it?

The new app is called Photos. It's icon was added to the Dock. Both, Photos and iPhoto, are located in your Applications folder.
If you need to upgrade iPhoto, follow these instructions prepared by Barney-15E: https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-8431

After recent upgrade to Yosemite on Macbook air bluetooth audio cuts out and associated video stops with audio. Likewise with airplay and Apple TV. I have deleted all my saved wifi connections and restarted numerous times. I do not expect a resolution from the community, but hope to get the attention of Apple engineers. If you are having same problems or have a miracle cure I am all ears.

May start my own thread, but I'm having similar issues.
I've been using an old iMac (running 10.7.5) and Apple TV for years with no issues. Last week I bought a new Macbook Pro running Yosemite and have had audio issues multiple times. The weird thing is that sometimes it works flawlessly, other times (like now) I spend half an hour just trying to get a song to play.
My issues are: When I got to "computers" in Apple TV to stream my music, my music is sometimes chopper or intermittent, and I seen to know when it's going to happen based on the status wheel just before it plays. When I choose a song, the status wheel will spin for an unusually long time, usually an indicator that the audio is either not going to work, or stutter.
When it does finally pull up a song, the playhead sits at the beginning of the song for a good 3-5 seconds before actually playing. Then, when it starts playing, it's all downhill. It will play a few seconds, drop out, play a few more seconds, drop out, and then ultimately the playhead will keep moving across the song as if it's playing, but there's no audio.
Again, this is a new phenomenon never experienced by me. I've tried everything I could think of, some of them all at once:
    • restart Apple TV
    • restart Macbook Pro
    • quite iTunes/open
    • turn off Home Sharing on iTunes then reconnect it
    • unplugging and cycling both my modem and router
None of these have alleviated the problem.
The odd thing is, like this morning, the audio started up perfectly and never gave me any issues. It wasn't until later in the day that it started. Perhaps after the macbook pro had been put to sleep? Not sure.
Regardless, this is an annoying trait, one that's new to me and my system (as stated, worked flawlessly until my new purchase), and is 100% limited to either a) the macbook pro b) Yosemite or c) both of them.

  • I have recently upgraded to Yosemite and when launching PS I get error message 150:30.  Can anyone tell me what this means?

I have recently upgraded to Yosemite and when trying to launch PS I get an error message 150:30.  Can anyone help me out with this please?

Yes. The upgrade broke your CS4 install. You have to reinstall.
Easiest way to fix this is to download the installer Download CS4 products and have your serial number at the ready.
Then you will need to download and install the updates for Photoshop, Camera Raw, and Bridge here: Product updates
There is a Terminal fix, but you have to be familiar with Terminal and running the python license Repair script. You will need the bash shell on your user account. If that makes sense to you, we can try that.

without more information, I assume you mean a blackout from sleep issue.
Go to system preferences > energy settings > raise the "turn display off" setting up to as needed, say 5 mins. or 10 mins.
    AND ...
unchecked the "Put hard disks to sleep when possible" in both the battery and power adapter tabs.
    test it and check back

Just wind it by dryer and then don't try to switch it off because any electrical interchange cause damage. and then put it in a rise bucket. and in few hours it shuld be fine.. or take it to apple store if you are still in Warranty...

  • I recently upgraded to Yosemite on MacBook Pro - unable to open iPhoto and Photo Booth

I recently upgraded to OS X Yosemite 10.10.2 on my MacBook Pro (bought in 2011).  Since the Yosemite upgrade, I have been unable to open both iPhoto and Photo Booth at all.  I have lots of photos and need to access them. Both icons of iPhoto and Photo Booth have a circle with a bar across them, in my dock.
When I click on iPhoto I get the message " In order to open “iPhoto”, you need to update to the latest version. The version of iPhoto installed on this Mac is not compatible with OS X Yosemite. Download the latest version for free from the Mac App Store".  I have tried upgrading iPhoto on the App store but get an error message "The item you've requested is not currently available in the U.S. store" .
Since I cannot even view my photos, I cannot store them elsewhere.  Please, can someone help me resolve this problem!!!
For Photo Booth, when I click on it, it says "You can’t use this version of the application “Photo Booth” with this version of OS X. You have Photo Booth 3.0.3" - gives me no option to upgrade at all.
Would appreciate help for both iPhoto and Photo Booth issues described above, with iPhoto being the most pressing concern. Thank You.

The new app is called Photos. It's icon was added to the Dock. Both, Photos and iPhoto, are located in your Applications folder.
If you need to upgrade iPhoto, follow these instructions prepared by Barney-15E: https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-8431

  • Black Screen Flashes!!

Once in a while, while i'm using "google" to search for something as i type or backspace using the keyboard the screen starts flickering a black screen. It would flicker once or twice as i'm typing. Nothing to bothering. i'm just concerned that it may lead to something worse if i go on without doing something about it. Has anyone else had the same problem and what have you done to stop it from doing that? Thanks in advance.
