Black Screen Freezes, Force Restart during WoW

Hello all,
I have been encountering a problem the last few days while trying to play the new WoW Cataclysm game. About 5-20 minutes into play, my computer gets a black frozen screen (sometimes vertical gray lines) and it forces me to force restart. I have an HP Pavilion dv6-2088dx running an ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4200 series graphics card. I also run Windows 7 (64bit). I meet the minimun system requirements for the game and I have updated all of my drivers to their most current release. I have been throw WoW tech support solutions and none of them work. I am beginning to think it is an overheating issue. I am running HW Monitor and I have seen temperatures as high as 75 C on my Dual Cores and Motherboard. My current BIOS version is F.13, but I am wondering if there is a better BIOS driver for running at cooler temperatures. Does anyone know of any? Or does anyone have any suggestions to what could be going wrong or things to fix it?
I would appreciate any help.

  • Black Screen Freeze on Startup, Unplug all USB's, Restart, then "Keyboard Error"?

    Hey all
    Whenever I restart my computer, or turn it off and on I have an issue. I always get a completely black screen and it will not move past that.
    Once I unplug all the USB's and restart my computer again using the power button, I am able to get past it but am given a "Keyboard Error" message.
    It says:

    Any ideas?

    Hello @msliwa,
    Welcome to the HP Forums, I hope you enjoy your experience! To help you get the most out of the HP Forums I would like to direct your attention to the HP Forums Guide First Time Here? Learn How to Post and More.
    I have read your post on how your computer displays a completely black screen, and that it will not move past that. I would be happy to help you, but first I would encourage you to post your product number for your computer. Below is a is an HP Support document that will demonstrate how to find your computer's product number. In addition, it will also help if you indicate which operating system you are using; and whether your operating system is 32 or 64 bit. The more information you can provide, the better!

  • Black screen.  Cannot restart

    I was using my mba  in hot weather. It began to act erratically, so I shut it down. Back home I opened it, got the login screen, but no response from the kb. I typed but no characters appeared in the login box. After the batt ran down, nothing. Not even the login screen. Black screen.
    Any suggestions?

    Please restart your computer in Safe mode by taking these steps:
    - Click on the Apple sign() at the upper left corner of the Desktop, select 'Shut down' from a drop-down menu;
    - Wait until your computer turns off, then press the Power button(⌽);
    - Immediately after you hear the startup tone, press and hold the Shift(⇧) key. It should be held as soon as possible after the startup tone, but not before the tone;
    - Release the Shift(⇧) key when you see a grey Apple sign() and the progress bar below;
    This will force the system to perform several maintenance routines and load essential system software.
    Once you've seen the Desktop, start a Disk Utility scan to detect and repair file system errors:
    - Open Disk Utility application:
    1. Click on Finder at the bottom of your Desktop;
    2. Select Applications folder from Finder's left sidebar and then open Utilities folder (or press Command(⌘)-Shift(⇧)-U), double-click on Disk Utility icon;
    - Choose your main hard drive from the left sidebar ('Macintosh HD', usually);
    - Click on 'Verify Disc' at the bottom right corner, your Mac will perform a diagnostic test. Click on 'Repair Disk' if prompted to fix problems, or follow instructions given on the Disk Utility window;
    - Once the routine finished, click on ""Verify Disc Permissions"", after it's done, click on 'Repair Disc Permissions';
    - Wait until the process's finished and shut down your Mac, turn it back on in 30 seconds;

  • Random black screen freezes - GPU or PSU issue?

    Relevant specs:

    i7 4771
    750w Antec High Current Gamer
    Windows 8.1 Pro 64 bit
    For the past three weeks, this setup has been very stable. I then went on vacation for 3 days and then came back. All of a sudden, I then started getting random black screens (which occured in the middle two consecutive LOL matches, I'm quite sure I'm in the tribunal now...). If I'm in the middle of a game, the sound will stutter, and the game/system might appear that it's still playing for a few more seconds even though I can't see anything. I either have to manually reboot, or it'll just restart itself. I don't notice any error message when my system restarts. I tried doing a 3DMARK run to stress-test it, and it black-screened during Fire Strike. Sometimes I'll get a black screen at the Windows desktop doing nothing in particular to stress the card; I even got one in my BIOS setup screen!
    This morning, I did a fresh boot and ran GPU-Z. The VDDC graph doesn't look quite right to me, given all the hiccups. Oh, and 5 minutes after that screenshot, another black screen.
    The reason I mention the PSU is 1) I noticed that that particular PSU is rated 40A on the 12V rail, and yet the GPU requires at least 42A. but there are two 12V rails on that PSU, for 80A, which should be more than sufficient, and 2) I didn't notice any artifacts prior to any black screen. It's just weird that these would happening out of the blue - it sounds like the kind of issue that would've been present on day 1.
    Any thoughts?

    I have the same issues.

  • Satellite P100 (PSPA6A) - White screen, freezes then restarts by itself

    Hello,
    I have a Toshiba Satellite P100(PSPA6A) and am running Windows XP on it. Over the past month, I have had a problem with my computer where the screen turns white, it then freezes and restarts by itself.
    I have taken it to a computer store to get it checked out but they couldn't find anything wrong with it. I have tried to find if any programs are the source of this problem but I have not been able to find any. My computer can be on for 10hrs before this problem occurs and it can be on for about 5mins before this probelm occurs. It can also happen during the windows loading screen before it reaches the welcome screen. If this helps, there is a slight delay from when the screen turns white and when it freezes (I have music playing in the background on several occasions where the music was still playing for a few seconds while the screen was white, and then it froze and restarted).
    Any help would be much appreciated.

    Hi!
    Did you already check the RAM by yourself using Memtest86 as Boarder suggested? I mean Memtest86 is really great for testing the RAM and if there is a problem, Memtest86 should find it.
    Furthermore I would recommend checking the HDD. Therefore you can use Drive Fitness Test and Google is your friend to find it.
    This program is also freeware.
    In worst case you should go to an authorized service provider. Maybe its a problem of the mainboard or CPU and this can be checked from a notebook technician.
    Bye

  • What cause the Black screen Freeze?

    The screen turn black, I have to force a Restart and it doesn't work all the times. I got to reboot like 3 or 4 times. The macbook is running and the only thing i hear is a beep on all the keys.

    Hello there, vsanfilippo2.
    If you're iOS device isn't recognized at all on your computer, then the following Knowledge Base articles provide some great troubleshooting steps to follow, depending on the Operating System running on your computer:
    iOS: Device not recognized in iTunes for OS X - Apple Support
    or
    iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch not recognized in iTunes for Windows - Apple Support
    Thanks for reaching out to Apple Support Communities.
    Cheers,
    Pedro.

  • Satellite P750 - black screen, freezing, crashes while gaming

    Hi, I've had my P750 not for long and i am getting a few issues with games.
    Most of the newest games like NFS RUN, BF3 or FEAR 3,show a black screen in game, freeze and then crash will i play the game (2-10 minutes).
    Other games like BLACK OPS, ASSASINS CREED REVELATIONS and SAINTS ROW THE THIRD, freeze and i have to press ctrl + alt + del. to continue the game again.......im really dissapointed by Toshiba, because although i was told that this laptop was suitable for gaming, instead i only get crashes!
    I havent overclocked it, the NVIDIA drivers are the latest (285.62) same as DirectX
    Ive seen similar posts on this forum, but no serious solutions. Please help!!

    On Toshiba European driver page you can find the nVida driver v 267.44
    Did you test this driver?
    I found also some modified drivers on laptopvideo2go.com page but the usage of such drivers is your own risk and not sure if they would work properly.

  • Black screen after first restart

    Hello,
    i want start saying that i don't speak english so i want apologize for my text error, anyway, as the title say after the creation of boot camp partition, i start to install Windows 7 Ultimate and it gone fine, but after this the installation requires system restart, i press "Alt" and choose to boot in Windows partition and then come the black screen with a flashing dash in the top left, i wait for 4 hours and nothing. After this i tried more times to install Windows and i try to reset PRAM and SMC too, but nothing.
    Please Help me.

    It should be doable. Particularly on the Intel models. They are Intel 945 chipset which does support native SATA. The AMD models are another story. The second hard drive bay is not real SATA, however, it is a usb to SATA adapter for storage only and is capped I believe at a 250 gig drive. The main bay should be able to take a SATA hard drive of any capacity found on the market.

  • MSI R9 290 Gaming 4GB Black Screen/Freeze Issue

    Hello All,
    I just received my new MSI Radeon R9 290 Gaming. 4GB. It freezes/locks up upon booting into windows. If I do not install the drivers. It does not lock up. As soon as I install any driver, it goes to a black screen, and locks up. I have read the forums, and see a few other people have reported this issue. I have tried the following AMD Catalyst drivers 14.7(beta), 14.1, 13.2. All still have the same issue. I have tried installing the driver manually(via device manager) with out the CCC. I have also tried the native drivers from MSI's website. still same issue. Not sure what else to do here. I am using a CoolerMaster RS-850Watt power supply. Windows 8.1 Pro. Here are the rest of the details of my setup. Anyone know of a fix for this issue?

    Hey guys, thanks for trying to help. I ended up going back to the retailer. memory express. They determined that the card was DOA. They exchanged it and provided me a new card. New card has no issues. thank you for the help.

  • Screen freezes with restart message

    Every time I turn on my Macbook now, after about 5 minutes the screen freezes and a message appears saying I have to press restart/turn my Mac on and the off. The message appears in about 5 languages including German and what looks like Chinese. Anything I'm working on the time is thus lost.
    About a month ago I had the hard disk replaced because of a failure and I thought this might cure the problem. However, it didn't and I still keep getting the same message. It's really annoying as it happens quite randomly and means I lose any work I'm working on at the time.
    Any suggestions/ideas/solutions?
    Thanks.

    I'm having exactly the same issue after performing the latest Java update. I'll try rebooting with the installation disk to see if there are any changes. I also had to replace my hard drive disk recently at the Apple store. If nothing changes, I'm calling Apple Care in the morning and will report back.

    No, keyboard indicators are not blinking (no num lock light or anything).
    Of course, we are talking about /var/log/Xorg.0.log.
    I've realized that it is even not created now.
    (I've tried with empty xorg.conf, just to get some log errors, and after I returned fglrx version of xorg.conf and run startx log was empty)
    I haven't made any ~/.xinitrc (I think that it should run default one from /etc/X11, right?)
    I've tried with ~/.xinitrc that has just "exec xterm"
    nothing worked...

  • MOVED: R9 290X Lightning - Black screen freezing

    This topic has been moved to Graphics Cards.
    https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=254587.0

    So I decided to RMA the card a few days ago. I'd been running perfectly on the integrated graphics while I waited for my replacement. I just recently installed it and it worked great... for about 5 minutes and then I got a black screen accompanied by the gpu fans blowing full speed. I immediately shut off the pc and have not been able to boot with the card anymore. Even if it's all installed and properly plugged in it is not recognized in windows and won't show up at all in the bios board explorer (says PCIe slot is empty). At this point I'm thinking it might be the motherboard but the card also refuses to work on other setups. I've also tried different power supplies with no success. At this point I'm thinking of just trashing this card and going with an nvidia since my friend's card (gtx960) works fine on my pc.

  • Mavericks freezing with spinning symbol and strange screen after forcing restart

    Hi,
    My Mac has freezed (or almost that) and showed the spinning symbol (in gray). I couldn't use, so I forced the restart.
    After that, I've received a strange screen that I've never seen in my life, with a folder and a "?" inside it:
    I noticed that the freeze happened exactly at the same time my Internet connection got lost, because my Apple TV has also stopped (but not freezed).
    I've been experiencing problems with Mavericks since the begining ( https://discussions.apple.com/thread/5836640 ), and I'm seriously considering downgranding to ML.
    I'll appreciate any help on this. Thank you so much.
