Black screen in BIOS virtualization mode

The problem was present out of the box.
If I boot Macbook Air into any non MAC OS, BIOS based OS, installed on BOOT CAMP partition or from a USB stick: DOS, Windows 7, Linux etc., there is 95% chance that the screen remains black. The system boots and responds, it is only that I can see nada, just a black screen. It is possible in Windows 7 to rotate display using Ctrl+Alt+Arrow keys, and it resets video system, so after 20-30 attempts I may be lucky and get the screen on.
In other words, in 95% cases video system in BIOS mode fails to initialize.
The notebook passes all Apple standard hardware test. The motherboard(with CPU, memory) was changed with no success. SSD remains the same.
I spent some hours with Apple support, the person I spoe to came to a conclusion that there is some kind of a problem with EFI.
Then she went to holidays, and a new guy told me that the problem is that Boot Camp is not compatible with Window 7 Enterprise.
A serviseman in Apple Certified Center thinks the problem is in the Windows drivers. What a low level of professionals they have!
They all fast to blame Windows.
External display is black too.
I tryied to boot from rEFIt, and the problem remains, but the success rate of non black screen is higher, maybe 20%.
Boot ROM verison: MBA41.0077.B0F
SMC: 1.73f63
Reset of SMC did not help.
I do not know how to proceed, Apple seems to be not interested, its support keeps suggesting absurd things...

Does turning off »Use Graphics Processor« in the Performance Preferences and restarting Photoshop have any bearing on the issue?

    Hi there ,
Thank you for visiting the HP Support Forums and Welcome! • Yoga 2 Pro - Black screen when on tablet mode

    Hi,
2 weeks Yoya 2 pro out of the box, and get a black screen when reaching the tablet mode (back of the lid touching the back of the laptop base).
I try hanged the setting under power management, with no success. When reaching the tablet mode, I get the same result as closing the lid in laptop mode.
I connect my Yoga 2 to a TV through the HDMI and can see the screen and interact with the black screen (not easy to touch the right spot).
My bios is updated and I have Windows 8.1.
    Any suggestion???

I found the answer to my problem at
    http://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Idea-Windows-based-Tablets-and/Yoga-2-Bios-Update-Crash/m-p/1322487/high...
Now that I found that post I do recall the instructions telling me to turn it off manually when I updated the bios earlier this year. However, the current instructions do not mention it at all, perhaps they should be updated?

  • Black Screen After BIOS Update P6520f

    Hi All,
I attempted to install the BIOS update for the Pavillion P6520f as recommended by HP for sleep mode issues. The BIOS update was downloaded and began installing when the computer BSOD'd. I now have no indication there is any BIOS at all available for startup. The computer powers up, but no BIOS screen. No beeps. It's just a black screen.
Is there any fix available for this issue?
    Many thanks in advance.

First unplug your computer, and hold the power button for 30 seconds minimum. Replug the power back in and then see if it boots. If that fails, see if you can do a rollback for the update.
I have had an issue with an update and mobo failure. I doubt its the case, but it does happen, where the correct thing discovers malfunction.

  • C700 Laptop: Not booting: Black screen: No BIOS

My 4 years old Compaq Presario c700 (C794) laptop is not booting up. Does not go into BIOS, and does not even show the message “Press F10 to enter BIOS” etc.
I see a clear black screen (but has backlit and I am able to adjust the brightness using Fn keys). Tried on the desktop monitor, it is black too.
The HD is running intermittently, all LEDs are on, and the fan is running.
Windows is not booting up, there is no log on sound. WIFI light is also orange, it becomes green after booting is complete. HD activity is on but it is not as much to boot up Windows 7.
    Troubleshooting I did till now:
Hard reset by holding down the power button several times.
Cleaned RAM and placed it in another slot.
Removed the power and battery and kept it overnight.
Tried on the desktop monitor, it is black too.
This happened all of a sudden. I did not do any BIOS updates or anything that normally causes these kind of problem. I learned from some forums that an exhausted CMOS battery can cause it. Is it true? In this case, can you please give the location of the CMOS battery in these laptops?
What are the other measures I can take?

    Hello again Hazarika.

  • Windows 8.1 start up black screen no bios screen

This is my computer:Intel 13, gigabyte mother board, 8 gb ram 64 bit operating system, windows 8.1
I built this computer from scratch and I've had it for less than a year. However recently I have noticed that when i start up my computer, there is a black screen, there is no bios setup page and there is no manufacturing screen. Furthermore I have noticed
that when I start up my pc the lights on my keyboard and mouse are turning on and off. I have tried turning off the quick boot function and ive tried using a different screen and the same result happens. Please help me resolve this situation :(
    Cheers, Charlie

    so can login to windows?
no message appear during booting up?
if this is No Post issue, more to HW
there is many suggestion from internet about no post issue
    my tips:
    1. Check all the light indicator status, mainboard light, process light (HDD), try to open ODD tray (to check power)
    2. to isolate RAM or RAM slot issue, try to different RAM configuration and try different slot
    3. Check if there is beeping sound, most of beeping sound issue caused by RAM or graphic card
    4. Check your HDD at different PC to isolate HDD issue
    5. Check your keyboard and mouse at different PC
    6. I suggest do power drain, remove keyboard, mouse, video cable, power cable, LAN ect, press power button without any power. Put back keyboard and mouse(after make sure working fine with other machine), video cable and power cable only, don't put any other
3rd party device (LAN, printer, usb pen drive ect)
If still no POST issue, I suggest bring to service center for further TS

  • Black screen after BIOS update

    Hi there,
After updating BIOS with regular HP software (i forgot the name now), the computer shut down and from that moment when i turn it on the screen stays black (with computer apparently running). I read so many posts with similar problems and i tried few things but without success. I know that i am very close to solve the problem but from all the suggestions i am now simply confused. I would like to ask, if someone can guide me through step-by-step procedure, i figured out that i need to install a BIOS version on USB-stick, but exact details i am obviously missing.
I have HP Pavilion dv 6700 Entertainment PC and new HDD inside without HP_TOOLS on it.
    Thank you veeeeeryyyy much!

  • HP elitebook black screen after bios update

I recently bought a great condition HP elitebook 8440p. I installed a new hard drive 1TB hybrid hard drive ssd+HDD. I managed to get the computer working and everything was fine untill I decided to update bios. I searched up drivers and the first thing came up was bios update so I said to myself why not. After the program shut down my computer, I immediately noticed abnormal fan speed. There was no picture, and the panel lights were on and two lights (Cap lock and numlock) were blinking 3 times for 5 sets so (blink blink blink (Pause) blink blink blink (pause) blink blink blink (pause) blink blink blink (pause) blink blink blink. After that nothing else happenes. The other panel lights stay on and the fan continues to spin until i turn it off.
    Things i have tried.
    1. Installing update bios to 16gb flash drive, making it bootable and then sticking it into the USB port. Holding down Win+B. Also tried to hold down FN+insert , (Up+ down+ Left+ right), f10
    2. Several hard resets (Holding down power button for 30 seconds, 1 min to 30 mins.
    3. Reseating ram. Ram is 100% functional. Stuck it into an Asus G75VW and showed I had 10 GB rather than having 8 .
There are no instructions on how to fix this problem on the 8440p and I see people asking for answers. I am really fustrated and spend several hours trying to figure this problem out on Youtube, HP forums etc. Thanks

I have same issue with my HP EliteBook 8440p.
I updated my bios throuh HP SoftPaq Download Manager and aftrer the reset the computer won't boot, I get a black screen and it lights up and fan is working.
Since my warranty expired and this is official HP software I am wondering who will cover the costs of the repair?
The laptop is currently in offical HP service for two weeks now and they are waitnig for a reply from HP central for a possible solution for the issue.
From what I read on HP support forums there is no fix and HP isn't in a hurry to answer on anyones questions about that which is very sad for a company I thought was professional... also, the surprising thing is that this is not a cheap laptop for the masses but a laptop which is built to last for professional users
The question remains, is there a fix for this issue and if not who is going to cover the cost of repair/replacement of the components/laptop?
    Best regards,
    Cole

  • Time of black screen in stand by mode

    Hi
I've purchased af MacBook Air 13" a couple of months ago. Sometimes when it has been inactive for some minutes it turns to standby-mode/black screen which is fine. But when i move with the cursor or click on the keyboard it doesn't turn back instantly. It can be up to 10-20 seconds before something happen. I am sure that it before just took a split-second, so why is it so slow now? At first i thought it was completely frozen.

  • Black screen even in safe mode

Basically what the title says. The story is that I got the "black screen after log in but cursor is there" problem. I looked up online and it said I should restart in safe mode to disable the display driver. I did just that and set it safe mode minimal. When I re-boot it up it's just a black screen. If I move the cursor it says *safe mode* on 4 corners of the screen but that's it there's nothing else on the screen.

    I went to this page
    MSI Global GT60 2OD
I did download the file w8_E16F4IMS.50E.zip AHCI Bios then flashed the bios file using the flash utility afuwinx64.exe provided in the folder. I typed at the DOS command window inside windows 8 x64 the command afuwinx64.exe E16F4IMS50E after that the fans of notebook made noise and at the DOS window showed OK DONE for all steps of flashing. Then i shut down windows 8 . Power the notebook hit del enter the New flashed bios hit f9 for optimal settings then  save changes and restart. After the restart black screen. What did i made wrong?
You need to use included "FLASHWIN.BAT" [which contain all required parameters] to flash it,
else your notebook will be bricked.

  • Satellite L450 (PSLY0E) - black screen after BIOS update

It seems like I have "bricked" my laptop during a bios utdate gone bad...black screen, as suspected :o /
The laptop is a Toshiba satellite L450 (PSLY0E)
The new bios image is named "bwaa150a.rom"
Anyone knows if it is possible to recover the bios from flashdrive or floppy, using some sort of recovery toolfrom inside the bios chip? ...or something?
Anyone knows who is the manifacturer of this bios?
If I have to rename the bios image during a recovery, what shoult it be named?

Well, I've just brought my bios back to life... :)))
I used the "wincrisis" available from wincrisis.1.0.0.4
Basically I followed the instructions in the download above to create a recovery usb-flash.
Then downloaded the correct bios, renamed the "rom-file" to "BIOS.WPH", and copied it to the usb-flash.
Then I disconnected both the battery and the power connection cable on the bricked laptop.
While pushing down the "F-key" on the keyboard, I reconnected the power cable and powered on with the power button, holding down the "F-key" *all the way till the laptop powered down by itself* after 2-3 minuets.
Then, powered up the laptop normally...voil, running normally, with the newest bios... :)))

  • T61 Black Screen after BIOS update

    I have a T61 with Vista.
I did the lastest BIOS update and it got stuck, my power is fine, my connrection is fine but somehow it got stuck. So i terminated the update (ctrl+alt+del). Then i removed system update, dowloaded it again (3.14) and did a restart.
So now i turn on my T61, and Windows won't even start. All i see is a black screen and i hear my DVD-Rom running and everything still seems to work but i won't get anything on my screen. I tried pushing F1 but nothing happens, thinkvantage button doesn't work and i removed my battery etc.

    Hello backstabber,
it seems you have flashed yout TP to death. One chance, if your cd drive is working till now.
Try to download bios file as a bootable.iso file burn it to cd and try to flash bios with this bootable disc.
If nothing happens you have to take it to service and the motherboard would be replaced.

  • Black screen after BIOS update on K9N Neo V2, help pls?

    Hi guys!
    I have K9N Neo V2 motherboard and Athlon X2 5400, I've decided to upgrade and bought Phenom x4 9750.
So I've updated the bios to 3.0O from https://forum-en.msi.com/index.php?topic=124305.0 using the instruction, it went fine, I've been using it for a week but found out some bugs (windows blue screen and applications and OS hangups), then I got to restore OS from acronis true image - failed. And then I decided to check if the new bios supports my old athlon or not, I've changed the CPU and started - failed, dark screen no bios, I plugged back Phenom and now it also is not working :((. Have no idea why and what to do now..
Would really appreciate any suggestions and help.
    Thank you in advance

  • Black screen in BIOS and DOS

    Hello...
Just as the headline states, I've got no display in BIOS and DOS. It all happened when I installed my new Connect3d ATI Radeon 9600XT on my K7T266 Pro2-RU-board. It runs fine in Windows and games, but when I try to enter BIOS or do a dos-startup the screen is black. I can still see the POST-screen (or whatsitcalled, the very first screen that lists my bios and discs).
I've reset cmos and flashed to the latest bios, but the problem remains. I disconnected all discs, but no difference. I've looked all around for an answer, but the closest I've come is a similar problem when using DVI, but I'm not. Now I've changed back to my old GeForce2-card and all is working.
Anyone with the same problem? Is there some driver I might have overseen? Is there some well-known incompatibility fact? I'm getting pretty desperate here... I feel like I'm losing it!
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
    My system:

    Athlon 1600+

I meant to adjust my previous statement about firmware being a driver, but sort of left it hanging. Firmware is not much more than a recognition string of text, isn't it?
The firmware itself is just like your mainboard's BIOS, a piece of embedded software. The videocard uses it to function, bootup, initialize and be initialized, correctly. If the firmware is missing or corrupted your card won't bootup. It will be initialized by most utilities as long as the graphic chipset remains intact.
The Output of the firmware is in most cases just a sign on string...

Could there be some BIOS-setting I've missed? There are quite a few AGP-parameters in there.
Sorry to say, but the answer is no. The only thing you 're able to change is the BIOS POST-display mode. To change the BIOS POST-display mode change the initial display mode (this is called in most Setup Utilities something like 'Full Screen Logo Show'). Setting the initial display mode to silent (=full screen logo enabled) will switch display mode at POST-Screen to 640x480x8 GRAPH or 640x480x24 GRAPH. Setting it to BIOS (=full screen logo disabled) will switch display mode to POST diagnostic screen mode (in your case 640x480x4 GRAPH, but also in many cases 640x350x4 TXT which would result in your case in a blank screen).
As Fredrik Åsenius suggested, I would try to write MSI or AMI about the problem. Maybe they'll fix it by changing the BIOS Setup display mode to a graphical one.
You may also write to your vgacard manufacturer about the problem. They might release fixed firmware for your card.
