Black screen Intel brightness - Install latest rellese

Hello.
I have the same problem as that: https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=116471
The reason is that black screen, who appeared together with kernel26-2.6.37 (for the kernel26-2.6.38).
I have tried other Linux distributions with the same versions of kernel26 to check whether the kernel is actually the cause of the problem. It turns out that YES.
Yesterday on a separate partition I installed Arch with unlocked testing repository. I made complete configuration X(xfce4) and added user to all groups. Unfortunately, I only pre-load system. Log on to shell the user account and the execution startx is already taking place with the black screen. Graphical environment is loaded as if my monitor was only 10% brightness. To see what I'm doing on the desk, I have to watch from a distance of 5-10cm. Black screen appears regardless of whether the KMS is active or inactive.
I join the logs to read: dmesg.log and Xorg.0.log.
How to deal with this problem? Who should I report it?
If you need more information ... please write and I'll try to put them here.
That solution work for me when i install ArchLinux with kernel 2.6.36 or lower , apply that solution and update
[I had the same problem, solved by adding a /etc/rc.local
setpci -s 00:02.0 F4.B=00
To adjust the brightness to add to the kernel line:
acpi_osi=Linux
That solution work only when i install ArchLinux with kernel 2.6.36 or lower, apply the solution and next up to date, but that way isn't confortable for me, and here is my question: How can i install latest relles of ArchLinux??
Maybe, I can install it on VirtualBox, apply fix and copy virtualbox hard disk, to my HDD, should it work?
or maybe, i can edit ArchBang iso, and add that solution to rc.local, next save the changes in iso, burn the iso on a CD, and next install
Now I have instaled on my HDD only Windows XP

Might be either compatibility issue (since your system is pretty old), PSU or simply defective GPU. See above ^

  • Black Screen in Mavericks with latest update (11.2.2 iTunes)

I've had problems that were never fully resolved regarding waking my iMac from a sleep state. I would be able to hit the volume up and down buttons on my keyboard, hear the tones when the volume was changed, but the screen would remain black no matter what I would do (including resetting PRAM and hard resets, etc.). Eventually I just had to set it so that the computer never went to sleep, and that solved the problem. Or, more appropriately, avoided it.
Anyway... it had been working fine with that adjustment, until this latest software update. Ironically, the update is only for iTunes, so I'm not sure exactly what could've happened. No settings were changed or anything, but here's what it's doing:
The white screen comes up with the apple logo, then the progress bar that shows it's installing the update comes up. It stays up until the progress bar completes, then the screen promptly goes black.
I've tried doing the hard reset thing, or whatever it's called, where you unplug and hold down the power button. And I've also reset the PRAM. Regardless of what I do, every time the iMac reboots, the white apple installation of software screen pops up and tries to reinstall the update again and again. Then it goes to the black screen.
I also tried starting it in safe mode, and even that didn't seem to work, since it's mid-update.
I THINK it may be related to the problem that I was having before (which was not ever solved by bringing my iMac into TWO different apple stores/genius bars), even though I can't test the volume thing... since I think it's getting stuck in the middle of installing the update, and doesn't have the ability to change volume in the middle of all that.
Hopefully this is clear.  Thanks in advance for any help!
PS - There's a slight chance I'm wrong about what the update is. It doesn't make ANY sense to me for it to be doing this obviously OS X update when 11.2.2 is supposed to just be an iTunes update. Perhaps it's the latest of the Mavericks updates and I'm just behind due to being out of town. No way for me to check, since I can't get past the update screen to check that stuff. Sorry!

You can test the startup disk ...
Launch Disk Utility located in HD > Applications > Utillities
Select the startup disk on the left then select the First Aid tab.
Click:  Verify Disk  (not Verify Disk Permissions)
If DU reports errors, restart your Mac while holding down the Command + R keys. From there you should be able to access the built in utilities in OS X Recovery to repair the startup disk.
Make sure to back up all important data first before using OS X Recovery.
If you cannot access the Disk Utility app in /Applications > Utilities
Shut down your Mac then wait about ten seconds.
Then restart while holding down the Command + R keys. Then you can use Disk Utiility from there to repair the startup disk.

  • [Solved] Amilo XI 2550 - Black screen after fresh install

    Dear archlinux users,
I have been reading the archlinux wiki and forums since I started using arch several years ago. It was always possible to solve the problems I ran into by consulting these webpages, therefore a big thanks to the community for the provided help.
Two weeks ago I installed arch on a Fujitsu Siemens Amilo XI 2550. The first problem I ran into was that booting the live-cd resulted in a black screen and I could not even start with installing arch. This problem was solved with the kernel parameter 'nomodeset'.
The first boot of the freshly installed arch also resulted in a black screen after the GRUB menu which was perfectly displayed. After some searching (here and here and ...) I plugged in an external monitor and it showed the login screen. I then installed KDE because I thaught the problem might not show up with X and KDE running. After the login to KDE I realized that the brightness of the laptop display is nearly black but not totally. It seems as if the brightness is at a very low level, but brightness cannot be controlled with the Fn+F8 or Fn+F9 commands. But I see a OSD that indicates that the controls are used but without effect. So at the moment it is only possible to work on the laptop with another display connected to it.
    Maybe of use:
    ls /sys/class/backlight/
    acpi_video0

    echo 1 > /sys/class/backlight/acpi_video0/bl_power
    echo 1 > /sys/class/backlight/radeon_bl0/bl_power
Nothing of the above was improving the situation.

    Hello Trilby,
    thanks for the reply.
Trilby wrote:If nomodeset worked with the installation medium, why haven't you tried that for the same problem on your installed system?
The kernel parameter 'nomodeset' results in a working display but without X support, due to the fact that with 'nomodeset' there is no KMS support and therefore no X. But nevertheless I tried it and as expected X did not start.
Trilby wrote:Could you also post information about your graphics card and what drivers you've installed.
The graphics card is a Radeon HD 2700 and according to the above dmesg log it is recognized as RV 630. The radeon module is loaded via /etc/mkinitcpio.conf and xf86-video-ati (1:7.5.0-1) is installed.
I hope the provided information is what you asked for, thanks for your help.

  • Black screen during Windows install

    Hello,
I have a late 2012 27-inch iMac with the GeForce 680MX 2GB graphics card. I'm trying to install Windows 7 or Windows 8 using Boot Camp, but neither works.
In either case, I can use the Boot Camp Assistant to create a bootable USB install disk, download the latest Windows support software from Apple, and partition the drive to allocate space for the Windows installation.
As soon as I partition the drive, the iMac restarts and tries to boot into Windows. But the only thing I ever see is a black screen (no blinking cursor), no matter how long I wait.
This seems like the exact same issue that plagued the late-2009/mid-2010 iMacs,
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS3173
In other words, it looks like the drivers included with the default Windows install disk don't work on the late 2012 iMac, at least not when configured with the 680MX.
Since this looks like the old problem but Apple doesn't appear to have provided drivers for the new iMac yet (the older iMacs above used ATI graphics, not NVIDIA), I tried to add the latest NVIDIA notebook graphics card drivers to the Windows install disk using the directions here,
    http://superuser.com/questions/501812/corrupt-graphics-during-windows-8-installa tion
In particular, I used these drivers,
    http://www.geforce.com/drivers/results/55125
They're not explicitly supporting the 680MX (I couldn't find any drivers for it in NVIDIA's website) but they do support the 680M and a whole slew of other cards. Thought it was worth a try.
Anyway, that didn't do the trick. Still the black screen for me.
Any ideas? Have others had this issue with the new iMacs?
    Thanks

    OK, I figured it out.
You know how the Boot Camp Assistant gives you three options? Create Windows Boot Disk, Download Latest Drivers, Install. You basically need to do all three at once, from scratch.
I'm not sure exactly when in the last couple of months, but Apple updated their drivers. A few days ago I gave this another shot. Initially I tried using the USB stick I had previously created, but using some of the links at the first post above, I tried to inject the new NVidia drivers provided by Apple. That didn't help. I got the black screen and all that all over again.
But then I just tried to start from scratch, remaking the USB stick while simultaneously downloading the drivers. It then also asked me if I wanted to install a new helper tool. I never got that prompt before. Either that tool solved it, or when it was creating the boot disk now it was injecting the new drivers itself in some different way.
Whatever it was, try starting from scratch and going through all the steps and you might be successful in classic "it just works" Apple fashion. Took them a couple of months, but they got there.

  • AMD Radeon R5 M255 black screen, Intel HD 4400 works.

    Hello,
Recently, my Radeon card stopped working after a reboot. The laptop rebooted to a black screen.
I did some trouble shooting and disabled the card via the BIOS. This fixed the problem temporarily because the laptop now only uses the Intel integrated graphics.
After I got this working I updated the Bios and all drivers via the HP Support Assistant. I also installed all windows updates and tried to update the radeon driver, but that won't work because the installation program doesn't recognise any radeon cards because I disabled it.
I also did the diagnostics tests in the BIOS but they didn't give any errors.
Is there a fix or any other way to trouble shoot this?
I wan't to prevent sending my laptop to HP because I need it for my classes every day.
    thanks,
    Joep

  • Black Screen Problem after installing MineCraft MCedit

After installing MCedit, the problem starts with frequently whole black screen. At first from time to time, few seconds. Then within around two days it went worse, that means more often and longer black screen. By now (three days later) while booting I just get the screen for some seconds or half a minute... then just black screen... Mac is running. Apple support say it's most likely a hardware problem. I'm not sure about... any idea what to try about? I tried all the boot options I found :-) doesn't help (iMac 27'' / Lion)
    Thanks

I just recently purchased an MSI R9 270X Twin Frozr Gaming.
I physically installed the board and booted my PC. Windows started fine, albeit in VGA mode. I then proceeded to install the latest AMD drivers for the card (13.11 Beta). I made it through installation and then rebooted. When I rebooted, I got a blank, black screen after the "Starting Windows" screen. I was unable to boot windows, so I restored to last known configuration and tried again with different drivers (13.9) with the same result.
Does anyone know why windows hangs when it loads the display driver? Any help would be much appreciated.
    Thanks

Hi everyone. I just wanted to give you an update. It seems I have resolved the problem.
After attempting other fixes (fresh Windows install, MB BIOS update, etc), flashing the BIOS of the video card fixed the problem. I used the BIOS version
015.040.000.000.002887. I believe the BIOS the card shipped with is 015.039.000.000.002887. Anyway, there are no problems now. I was able to install Catalyst 13.11 Beta 9.5 with no problems and no black screens.
I got the BIOS and ATIWinflash from TechPowerUp. I'd post links, but I am too new to the board.
    Thanks guys.

On Mac Pro you have to pull all the other drives but the one you will install on - that means no external drives etc,
Sorry I don't get your post? And was it a reply to my or the OP?
Should be 95% fine w/o??? What does that mean?

  • Black Screen after flashing the latest BIOS

Nothing but Black screen (fan, leds work) after flashing the latest bios...
Is there anything I can do, or just new bios/motherboard can help? (I tried resting the battery, F8 key..) Thanks in advance

I presume BIOS is screwed up. What you need is professional help with this so contact nearest service provider and ask for help.
By the way: check this forum using advanced search option. In the past I saw several interesting threads about BIOS recovering. Im pretty sceptic about it but maybe you will be lucky and find solution.

  • MBA 2012 Windows 8.1 Intel HD4000 - Black Screen after driver install.

Hi to all. I'm tried to install Windows 8.1 to my macbook air 13 2012. Everytime when I try to install drivers for HD4000 screen turns black, and stops responding. I'm tried different drivers - from bootcamp, from intel.com, from lenovo, from windows update, but all of them makes screen black, also I'm tried different version, but it still don't work.
Anybody have solution or some ideas? Thanks.
p.s. Sorry for my bad English.

Probabily the best solution but I installed this OS-crap 2 times already! And I think I am not supposed to solve HP/MS problems since I paid for this.

  • My phone is unresponsive, like a black screen, except bright colors streak the screen. I tried plugging it into the computer but it says its an unknown device. What happened?

I recently plugged in my phone to the computer to download some music. It was resyncing and copying an app, while simultaneously I was on snapchat when suddenly a big wave of pink covered the bottom of the screen, then streaks of bright colors covered the whole screen. I cant turn it off because I use assistive touch, which is now covered by the streaks. Right now I'm waiting for my phone to turn off by itself, hopefully, because it was low battery when I plugged it in. Not only that, but when I plug it into the computer it says the device and port are 'unknown'. What happened? Is my phone broken? Please help me.

See if you can connect in recovery mode and restore your device, explained in this article:

If you can't, you should get it serviced.

I have late 2009 27" iMac. Anyone managed to get anywhere with this? Apple article says to just check the format of the drive I'm using... I've done everything exactly as it should be.

I had the same problem, you have to format your usb device on the same machine. Well, it worked for me.
