Black screen mirroring after ATV update

hi, I need help, I just bought my ATV, and it mirrored my IPad just fine, then it asked me to update the ATV software, now it just give me sound but no mirror??? Only a black screen. Help please!

I have the same problem. After restarting the iPad, mirroring will work for 2 or 3 times and then after that I get a black screen on the TV.
It is not a router issue because my iPhone and MCP all work fine sending to ATV repeatedly. It's just the iPad that is having this issue, the one place I really need the capability.
I've tried everything suggested on other threads with this topic. The only thing that works is rebooting the iPad, but the problem crops up after 2-3 uses. I really need to be able to turn mirroring on/off repeatedly like I can on other devices.

  • Gray/Black Screen + Cursor After Automatic OS Update

My Macbook (Pro - 2011) recently conducted an automatic update of the OS Software.  Mountain Lion was previously installed on the system.  I am now encountering a problem where the boot menu cycles through its normal startup, but gets stuck in a gray/black screen where the only thing that I can view is my cursor.
I read that this is a common issue with the new OS download.  Presumably, I am at the account login screen although I cannot see it.  I have already tried the following steps, to no avail:
    1) Press power button to power down
    2) Press power button to restart computer
    3) Hold down left Shift key until progress bar appears
    4) When at the gray/black screen with the cursor, type the first letter of your username, hit tab, type password, hit enter.
Next the beachball should appear and the download of the new OS should finish and the regular computer settings should be restored.  However, I have followed these instructions exactly, about 10 times, and I can only get my spinning beachball to appear for about 5 seconds before the screen reverts to gray + cursor and nothing else happens (ie. continued download of OS, new screens, etc...).
I have tried both a wired and wireless connection as well as a USB connected keyboard.  None of these other factors work.  I assume that my password is accurately typed into the right login username (hence the appearance of the beachball), but am not sure what other measures I can take to allow the OS download to continue, or at least restore my former account.
Any and all help is greatly appreciated.

  • How to back up a MBA (black screen issue after update)?

    Hi,
in an other post, it was suggested that
"There are ways to back up a computer that isn't fully functional — ask if you need guidance."
I would very much like to know how to do that!
This is a 2013 MBA that has been acting up since the last update, I am able to enter into safe mode and repair the disk, that's it. Other than that I get a black screen.
My data was not saved on Time Machine, I relied on dropbox and the auto save options of Scrivener the software I use, and it's been acting up lately. So i really need to get my files back.
    Thanks for your help!

online over the phone hardware diagnosis isnt the most foolproof method , obviously.
Even for people who used to fix laptops for years.    Such is the case.
Importantly you got your data back.  NOW, never go without LESS than 2 copies of your data OFF the computer

    Welcome to the Apple boards:
Were you holding down the Power button while the computer was still running? That's wrong and if that's what you did, you aborted the update and forced the machine off.
See if you can reboot in the safe mode - hold down the shift key while booting.
If you have corrupted the keyboard firmware, you may need to take the computer to Apple - I hope that is not the case.
One should never interrupt a firmware update.

  • Remote desktop connects, black screen, disconnects after a few seconds

I have several servers running Windows Server 2012 R2. These servers are used for testing, and are members of a domain which has two DCs, each of which are running DNS Server.
Yesterday I noticed one of the servers was having an issue with its remote desktop connection. If I try remoting into this machine, it connects to a black screen, sits there for 2-3 seconds and then promptly disconnects. No error message is given. I tried
this from a couple different Windows 7 machines, and got the same result. I tried from my wife's iMac, which runs Jump Desktop, and too was met with the same result.
I can, however, remote into this machine via RDP from my work-issued laptop, which is running Windows 8. However, I cannot remote into the problem machine via Remote Desktop Connection from one of the 2012 R2 servers--I am met with the same result as the
other machines: connect, black screen for 2-3 seconds, disconnect without error.
I can remote into all of the other 2012 R2 servers without issue from any machine, including the iMac. I am experiencing this problem on one server only.
Since it is a test server, I reinstalled Windows from scratch this morning. This meant formatting the SSD and wiping everything out. I reinstalled the drivers, joined the server back to the domain and installed all of the updates available from Windows Update.
And rebooted. And yet, the problem persists!
I tried troubleshooting the "usual suspects," like turning off Windows Firewall, disabling antivirus software (currently none installed), disabling IPv6, setting a static IP instead of using DHCP, etc. I did notice the network adapter said it was
on a Network, not a Domain Network. I corrected DNS settings, and the network reidentified itself as being on the ParietalBone.net network. And yet, the problem persists. Remote Desktop to this server still yields a black screen for 2-3 seconds, followed by
a disconnect--EXCEPT from the aforementioned Windows 8 machine.
I looked in the TerminalServices-LocalSessionManager log on the offending server, and there are no errors. I only see repeated entries that say "Session X has been disconnected, reason code 12," where X is 1 or 2. On a couple occasions, the reason
code is 11. But I don't see any errors indicating a breakdown in security negotiation.
Without any robust logs or debug details, I'm at a loss of where to look for a solution.

I am cautiously optimistic that this may have been resolved.
The network card in the computer was only a 10/100 built-in card, so I replaced it with a 1Gbps card. Interestingly, this did NOT resolve the issue. I ran netsh to check on the state of the chimney offload, but it was already disabled.
In the network card properties, I changed the link speed and duplex from automatic to 1Gbps full, re-ran "netsh int tcp set global chimney=disabled" and rebooted. The problem persisted.
And so I went to the network card properties and set IPv4 Checksum Offload, Large Send Offload (three of these -- IPv4, v2 IPv4 and v2IPv6) and TCP Checksum Offload (IPv4 and IPv6) to Disabled. Jumbo Frames were also disabled. I rebooted again.
After the subsequent reboot, I was able to connect to this Server from machines that previously gave me difficulty. The only machine I haven't been able to test today (I'm in the office) is my wife's iMac, which is at home. However, I was able to bring this
server up via Jump Desktop on my iPad, so I'm suspecting that perhaps one of the offload options was to blame. I'm not sure why this would allow me to connect from some machines but not others. And as noted above, I have many other machines running Server
2012 R2 and they are NOT experiencing this problem. And I've not done any tinkering with network settings on any of them, so their chimney and offload settings are all in the default configuration.
Regarding the other items -- NIC team, virtual machine, etc. -- there was no NIC team, no SRIOV and no RDMA involved.
I had to turn IPv6 off on this machine, and only on this machine, because having it enabled was causing a lot more problems. DNS registration would keep failing, it couldn't pull Group Policy, it couldn't get time sync with the DC, etc. The servers are all
set up with static IPv4 addresses. The router supports IPv6 but I'm not actually using it, so disabling IPv6 wasn't a concern to me.

I tried entering GNOME with gdm.
Before gdm runs, it freezes at a black screen for about a minute, then flashes the "Oh No" screen.  Afterward, it allows me to login. After logging in, it freezes on the grey background of gdm for another minute. Once it displays the "Oh No" screen, it takes me back to a black screen, repeating the cycle.
Also, I upgraded X11 at the same time as GNOME.
Edit: Here's a recent Xorg log, if it helps.

  • Unable to Stream After ATV Update???

So i updated, as you do.
After the update was complete, add shared iTunes library in Computers section.
Punched in my code, only 2 tabs come up in iTunes for the device,Summary, and Photos.
Go back to the ATV and try to connect to my library (which i can see and is not grayed out).
It won't connect, it displays: "ATV is connected to library for streaming. To see its content, choose shared movies, shared TV shows, shared music, shared podcast, or shared photo's in the main menu"
Go back to the main menu in iTunes (this is the main menu its talking about, right??) and as i said above the only tabs displayed for that device is Summary and Photo's.
I have tried selecting photo's to stream in that tab menu, as it asked me to do, clicked apply and still it comes up with that message on the ATV.
    I can't work it out!!! Any idea's??
    Thanks for your help everyone.

The streaming is different now in new version. That message you said you saw just says, you don't stream from there anymore. Just go back to your menu (music, video, photos, etc) and then there is a submenu item (or right) for "Shared xxx" When you pick that, it will show all the connected iTunes computers that are up. There you pick which one to go to. So to stream, you just go to the "Shared xxx" option in any menu for content. You don't have to go access it via computers like before.

  • Dual screen problems after last updates

    Hello everyone,
it was long time since our Arch gave me some problems, but then now I'm fighting furiously with dual screen configuration with new gnome. Let me explain.
I upgraded the home PC that I hadn't update for months, so I updated more or less everything ... kernel, nvidia drivers, gnome, etc..
The PC has always been dual screen (no twin view, without xinerama), two screens (one on a LCD monitor and one on a TV) where I could run separate applications independent.
Now, after the update, when I launch any application in the second screen (the TV) it starts on the first (screen).
Obviously I have't made any changes to xorg.conf before and after the upgrade. I also tried to recreate one with the nvidia-tools but nothing ...
Can you help me? Someone had the same problem?
I post my xorg.conf, I hope that someone has a hint. I can no longer watching movies on TV and it is very annoying!

Writing the post a tried to install fluxbox, and then... all ok. In fluxbox all works fine. I think this is a problem related to the new gnome screen configurer.
I post an image of gnome screen configurer vs nvidia-tools.
Googling around I found that new gnome screen configuration (using xrandr) is not compatible with nvidia drivers. Could be this the source of the problem?
    Help please

    Hi,
Does your Mac go to the sleep status when you close the cover? If so, the remote session can be terminated due to time out and the time out value may be redesigned in the latest versions.
    Thanks.

  • Macbook pro a1278 black screen , restart after 5 sec

hello, i have a macbook pro 2010 (a1278) , everything works fine until I changed my ram and my hdd.
Now I have black screen and my laptop start (i hear the fan, and hdd..) and 3-5 sec after he restart.., i do pram-smc reset, power management reset.... i put back the old ram and hdd and the same problem.
If somebody have a idea what is the problem..thank you

Take it in for diagnosis. Something you did when you made the changes apparently caused the problem.

  • My mini iPad always black screen even after restore. Need reset.

My mini iPad always get black screen and no response even after restored on yesterday? Only reset?

    Reset iPad
Hold down the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears
Note: Data will not be affected.

  • Ipad 2 - black screen even after restore

After only 4 hours of use just a black screen.
iTunes detects the iPad 2, all data on it , but it is just a black screen - after a restore and hard resets, the same!
    Return?

    Reset iPad
Hold down the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears

  • Black Screen Problem after installing MineCraft MCedit

After installing MCedit, the problem starts with frequently whole black screen. At first from time to time, few seconds. Then within around two days it went worse, that means more often and longer black screen. By now (three days later) while booting I just get the screen for some seconds or half a minute... then just black screen... Mac is running. Apple support say it's most likely a hardware problem. I'm not sure about... any idea what to try about? I tried all the boot options I found :-) doesn't help (iMac 27'' / Lion)
    Thanks

On another note when the MSI CD is not installed the graphic are spectacular and very game that I've tried works at full setting.
Well if its working very well for you, then don't install from the CD.

  • KWin shows only black screen sometimes after suspend

Hi. I've got an interesting, irritating, but not fatal bug here, hopefully someone can help me kill it.
On my laptop, I run KDE (not KDEmod) 4.3.4, from repos, and when I resume from suspend, sometimes I get only a black screen IF the laptop is plugged in. By unplugging it, I can get my screen back, when it switches to the powersave powerdevil profile. Plugging in again causes it to black out. I can fix the problem by restarting kwin (alt-F2 -> kwin --replace) and I can even do this while the screen is black. I just type into the black screen, and when I restart kwin, the screen flashes and shows up normally.
Obviously, this is survivable, but it is _very_ annoying, and hopefully fixable. Worst-case scenario, I can add a PM hook to restart kwin on resume, but I would like a cleaner solution if possible.

It seems X detects the screens but cannot initialize drm. I've tried looking up the error but I am not sure where the problem is. I've also tried download
    catalyst-total
from yaourt but it seems it needs a previous version of xorg-server (specifically xorg-server<1.17.0), the version I am running is:
    xorg-server 1.17.1-5
Again, I'm not sure how to fix this error, any help is appreciated.

  • Netflix not working properly after ATV update

After the update, movies at netflix after some seconds, video starts from the beginning and audio still plays normal.
Can't see anything like that. Have to fast forward so video comes back to original point.
Can you guys help me out?

If the update does not work for you then do as I explained in my previous post and roll back to the previous driver. That philosophy can be applied to all updates.
If there is no pressing or emergent reason to update and your PC or notebook is running just great... don't update. (that is especially true when it comes to a BIOS update)
For your issue #2, the problem could be your wireless connection (hotspot, router or modem) that causes the dropped connection.
    Best regards,
    erico
