  • IPhoto 9.1, thumbs present, black screen opening photos

iPhoto 9.1 was working OK. Imported 3 photos like always and now no photos will come up- just a black screen where the photo should be and it happens to all 10,000 photos I have. I have tried all the suggestions from other threads, repair permissions, trash cache and com prefs, etc. with no luck. Anyone have any other suggestions?

Thanks for your posts. As I started to do the new iPhoto 11 install the machine locked up (not even mouse movement). Held the on button down, let sit for 2 minutes and restarted. iPhoto has been working since then minus my personal prefs and settings that I'm redoing. Will be backing up iPhoto more often. Thanks again for excellent advise TD.

  • Photobooth & iPhoto show black screen where photos should be??

My iPhoto shows a black screen whenever I click on a picture. I can't see the photo when I want to edit it and it does not let me enlarge any of the pictures.
Also, my Photo Booth shows a black screen where its supposed to show the webcam picture. If I click on the white space where the thumbnails of previous pictures are supposed to show up, it pops up a different screen with the pictures already taken. But, I still cannot see the webcam picture.
If anybody could help solve this problem, I would greatly appreciate it.
    Thanks!!

You may have some damaged software.
If the problems are the same after restarting your Mac, reinstall Mac OS X 10.9.

i can see a possible workaround... download all photos to folder. delete all the photos from iphone and then sync photos with folder name like "OLD". i have tried this with years... like "2008"... but then whole thing became toooo slow so this is not a good way to go. despite the fact THIS SHOULD NOT HAPPEN AT FIRST PLACE

  • When I click to open a photo it opens a black screen with a grey triangle, exclamation mark in the middle. How do I fix this problem?

When I click to open a photo it opens a black screen with a grey triangle, exclamation mark in the middle. How do I fix this problem?

Make a temporary, backup copy of your library if you don't already have one (Control-click on the library and select Duplicate from the contextual menu) and  apply the two fixes below in order as needed:
    Fix #1
Launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
Select the options identified in the screenshot.
    Fix #2
Using iPhoto Library Manager  to Rebuild Your iPhoto Library
Download iPhoto Library Manager and launch.
Click on the Add Library button, navigate to your Home/Pictures folder and select your iPhoto Library folder.
Now that the library is listed in the left hand pane of iPLM, click on your library and go to the File ➙ Rebuild Library menu option
In the next  window name the new library and select the location you want it to be placed.
    Click on the Create button.
Note: This creates a new library based on the LIbraryData.xml file in the library and will recover Events, Albums, keywords, titles and comments but not books, calendars or slideshows. The original library will be left untouched for further attempts at fixing the problem or in case the rebuilt library is not satisfactory.

  • IPod Classic: Photos Issue: Photos on iPod Show Black Screen - Replicated!

Issue / My Solution related to format = PC / Windows
*FINALLY! I've replicated the issue where some random pictures in iPod photos show as a thumbnail, DON'T show when clicked with center button (instead a nice friendly black screen is shown) but DO show when you click the center button again to start Slide Show.*
Firstly, I'll start by saying that this was one of 4-5 issues that caused me to go to my local Apple store today & get my SECOND replacement (3rd iPod Classic; Black; 160 GB). It made me laugh when the technicians told me the truth; since Apple never preps even their own people for new products to possibly get trained on so that maybe they're more technically knowledgeable then their consumers when they go on sale, this store's approach has typically been 'Problem with a 6th Generation? Here's a new one'.
It's been a quick & easy way to satisfy customers while getting them no where, but they go home thinking their new unit will work, when in reality it was never a hardware issue.
Anyways, I exchanged 2 x 160 GB & 1 x 80 GB tonight for many of the same reasons, truthfully because I felt I'm due new units after the amount of times I've reimaged (restored) each by restoring all versions of the firmware software.
Many of you have experienced the photo issue I mentioned above before going off on my tangent, many of you may not have (yet).
Well, I'm 1,000% that I replicated this one:
*When restoring one of the iPods replaced, I conveniently noticed that the pictures which showed up blank on my iPod had illegal characters in their Windows Filenames.*
*These characters can include, but are not limited to:*
    *apostrophe ('); comma (,); period (.)*
*Again, the characters above are the only ones I've identified so far; granted that it should not ultimately be like this; the iPod should accept filenames containing these characters & if it can't or it's too hard for it to accept them, iTunes should display a warning to the end user to change the filenames with illegal characters.*
In conclusion, I'm about to unwrap my new 160 GB & sync it. I will avoid & hold off with the 1.0.2 update for as long as possible in hopes that a 1.0.3 comes out soon; especially since the only noticeable difference it made for me was a faster & more responsive & sturdy Cover Flow (don't even use anyways) + shuts off in my JBL Dock at work (replicated as a bug in 1.0.2; workaround: use PLAY, PAUSE & other controls on the unit itself, not with the dock or remote control on the dock.)
I learned my lesson the hard way & will definitely wait a few days until 1.0.3 is released to see how it really is by feedback posted here in this forum. For all you newbies, this is the best advice I can offer; don't bank on 1 or 2 posts, read a bunch. When you start seeing a pattern of problems, you know something can't be right. It's funny how you look at the post history of these updates (1.0.1 & 1.0.2 & you see all those who jumped to install post only the nicest things & the great enhancements they see, until a day later they're hit with the negatives of that build.
_*+--> Truth is,_ I can't believe Apple has gotten away without releasing 1.0.3 by now.+*
*+If this keeps up, I hate to say it, but their ratings will definitely go down the tubes (not being negative, just a realist).+*
    Any thoughts?

I don't think it's illegal file names. I've noticed that the file takes a while to "load" even when after you see the thumbnail in the main screen. A few back and forths and hearing the hard drive spinning finally confirmed that it would take a while for the pic to show up...extremely annoying, but a hard drive type issue methinks. Photos that show up once, don't show up again or take forever to do so and vice versa.
Not sure how this affects firmware as I'm not techy (I'm jazzy :)).
I'm going to let all my photos "fully load", and then try it again.
    I tried your method on 3 sixth generations with this issue (2 x 80gb & 1 x 160gb). I let them sit for 12 minutes; no picture.
Changed filename to remove a comma found in the names; then I sync it again & ALL BETTER.

Did it...  When I clicked on "No name", a file folder came up and, I forgot to put MacBook Pro in the name bar... That was it!  Maybe someone else can use this post Hopefully...

  • When I create an album and then try to watch it in slideshow, I get only a black screen with a white title.  No photos come up.  Also when I click on an individual photo in the album, I get a white exclamation point on a black background but no big photo.

When I create an album of photos and then open the album and try to watch it by selecting "slideshow" I get only a black screen.  The white title comes up briefly but then no photos, only a black screen.  Also when I go back to the album and click on a thumbnail, up comes a big white exclamation point on a black background instead of the enlarged photo.  Any idea what's going on?

The ! turns up when iPhoto loses the connection between the thumbnail in the iPhoto Window and the file it represents.
    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one. .

  • Photos do not appear in imovie 11. black screen with frozen movie clip

    Yes
    There is one possibility
    • AVI or .avi is no Video Format/Codec - it is a container and usually contains something iMovie can not use OK.
Open it with QuickTime-player and then open inspector (cmd+I) and read
    • Video Format/Codec: nnnnnnnnnnnnn
What does it read ? (all of it)
from wife Nikon D300s I read
    Yours the same ?
    Either I would
    • import it into iPhoto and in iMovie import from title iPhoto Movies at top in Events window - or
    • convert it into streamingDV .dv or AIC and use this.
AND - my read 24fps - I would convert this to PAL 25fps or to NTSC 29.97 (if for US) by JES_Deinterlacer.

  • Yesterday i bought ipad4 i transfered photos from pc to ipad that it opened in ipad when i click slideshow everything went black. whenever i m opening the application(photos) full screen looking black but all photos are occuping memory.

yesterday i bought ipad4 i transfered photos from pc to ipad that it opened in ipad when i click slideshow everything went black. whenever i m opening the application(photos) full screen looking black but all photos are occuping memory.i can see the pictures in settings>brightness>wallpapers but i couldnt able to see in photos application in ipad4

I have several thousand photos in several folders. I have noticed that whenever I want to change the folder used as the side show source, it takes the Screen Saver Preference pane a very long time to respond. It is as if it is scanning all the photos in the currently assigned folder in order to display them in the preview window provided, and it gets so dogged down doing that it can't respond to my clicks on the Choose Folder option.
Assuming you don't want to redistribute your photos into a greater number of folders or subfolders so there would be fewer in each folder to process, you could try a workaround. Try moving your currently-assigned folder to your desktop temporarily, before opening the Screen Saver preference pane. If the preference pane can't find the old folder, it may immediately ask you to choose a new one. You could hopefully then do so, close the preference pane, and then put back the old folder.
It's my understanding that there will be no future updates to Tiger, only security fixes.

  • Cannot edit a photo in Iphoto goes to a black screen

I can see my photos in the thumnail view but when I double click the image in EDIT mode it enlarges then goes to a black screen. It is not allow me to edit any more---after a few years of doing this. What can I do? I rebuilt it already. What next?

There are several possible causes for the Black Screen issue
    1. Permissions in the Library: Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Include the option to check and repair permissions.
    2. Minor Database corruption: Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild.
    3. A Damaged Photo: Select one of the affected photos in the iPhoto Window and right click on it. From the resulting menu select 'Show File (or 'Show Original File' if that's available). (On iPhoto 11 this option is under the File -> Reveal in Finder.) Will the file open in Preview? If not then the file is damaged. Time to restore from your back up.
    4. A corrupted iPhoto Cache: Trash the com.apple.iPhoto folder from HD/Users/Your Name/ Library/ Caches...
    5. A corrupted preference file: Trash the com.apple.iPhoto.plist file from the HD/Users/ Your Name / library / preferences folder. (Remember you'll need to reset your User options afterwards. These include minor settings like the window colour and so on. Note: If you've moved your library you'll need to point iPhoto at it again.)
If none of these help: As a Test:
Hold down the option (or alt) key key and launch iPhoto. From the resulting menu select 'Create Library'
Import a few pics into this new, blank library. Is the Problem repeated there?

  • Some photo's missing in iPhoto only black screen Appears with ! symbol

I am using iPhoto 08 and have around 11000 photos in my Library, about 300 all of a sudden have gone missing. The thumbnail is no longer visible only a black screen with the symbol ! appears. Any advice?

    Welcome to the Apple Discussions.
The ! turns up when iPhoto loses the connection between the thumbnail in the iPhoto Window and the file it represents.
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild.
    If that fails:
Try these in order - from best option on down...
    1. Do you have an up-to-date back up? If so, try copy the library6.iphoto file from the back up to the iPhoto Library (Right Click -> Show Package Contents) allowing it to overwrite the damaged file.
    3. If neither of these work then you'll need to create and populate a new library.
To create and populate a new *iPhoto 08* library:
Note this will give you a working library with the same Events and pictures as before, however, you will lose your albums, keywords, modified versions, books, calendars etc.
In the iPhoto Preferences -> Events Uncheck the box at 'Imported Items from the Finder'
Move the iPhoto Library to the desktop
Launch iPhoto. It will ask if you wish to create a new Library. Say Yes.
Go into the iPhoto Library (Right Click -> Show Package Contents) on your desktop and find the Originals folder. From the Originals folder drag the individual Event Folders to the iPhoto Window and it will recreate them in the new library.
When you're sure all is well you can delete the iPhoto Library on your desktop.
In the future, in addition to your usual back up routine, you might like to make a copy of the library6.iPhoto file whenever you have made changes to the library as protection against database corruption.

Photo booth became black screen after Newpad updated to iOS 7

It is not a widespread issue that requires apple to come out with a fix, I have many ipads that were updated and have no issues.
I would suggest you back-up and restore your device, that can repair many issues if the original update was corrupted.
