Black screen on resolution change

i already posted this problem but because of no response i think i was just hitting on the wrong part on the forum(posted it in the multimedia and games section since i thought it would be some sorta related to it )
my problem is, that i cant actually switch the resolution normaly with xgame.
the problem occures this way:
i start another terminal with xgame and an xterm in it.
i run any application that switches the resolution.
the effect is that the screen just turns to plain black, you can still hear the sound, so the application is running.
a ugly workaround for this is to actually switch to any other console or server and back, after that you see the screen.
this is -NOT- happening if i start any game under gnome/kde/fluxbox, so i just dont know why that happens and how to avoid it
my system is like this:
nVidia FX 5200 (newest driver, the pacman package 'nvidia 100.14.11-4')
a not-modified version of the xgame script(downloadet from holarse, was working perfectly under ubuntu and earlyer under Arch)

not a bit, actually i tried to get an answer in the nvidia related forums but till now there where no response to this too.
it seems like the problem is similiar to the problem other users got with nvidia, black screens if they do anything else, but i can do everything, no freezes at all, its just the fact that the monitor doesnt shows whats on the screen till i switch the x-server

Mavericks: Screen Sharing Resolution changed to low-res

I just updated my two slave macs (Mac Pro, Mac Mini) to Mavericks (main mac still on 10.8.5), and when I do screen-sharing by connecting to each, suddenly I'm getting each slave mac in a square screen at low-res -- 1280x1024. THere are no other options to return these to full 1920x1080-sized windows.
Some other forums recommended a free app called Display Menu that puts a screen resolution in the upper menu bar, but when I select 1920x1080 as the resolution for the sharing window (which it has always been), I get a black screen in that window and the only fix is to turn off the slave mac manually, and when it comes back on and I reconnect to it, it reconnects with the square 1280x1024 monitor window.
It used to be that I got the 16:9 screen share window and I could scale/resize it by dragging corners but that option is gone.
Anyone know how to get that old 1920x1080 resolution back in my screen-shared windows?

Ok so the solution was to user a different VNC client in Ubuntu. "Vinagre" allows you to view your remote session scaled to any size you like. It will however retain the dimentions of your MacBook screen.
One thing to be aware of is that when authentication your VNC session (entering your username and password) Vinagre only allows you to enter a password of 8 characters max. So if your password is longer then 8 characters you will have to shorten it to user Vinagre... A bit annoying but at least it works.
Techy notes:
It is actially the VNC server Vino that Vinagre uses that is enforcing the password length limit. So if using an alternative client that uses Vino as it's VNC server this limit will apply for that client also.
Even though you are scaling the client session down VNC sends the host's full resolution so you will still transfer a lot of data over the network.

How can I switch my resolution back after getting a black screen?

A couple weeks ago I connected my iMac (2012) to my LG TV. Everthing was working fine until my screen on my iMac blacked out. Even when I disconnect my TV from my iMac, my screen remains black. There's no sign of a dimmed backlight or a broken backlight. After I wake my iMac up from sleep it shows my log in screen for half a second and then it pops back to a black screen.
I think I switched to a resolution my iMac couldn't handle, so it blacked out, I just don't know how to get my screen to work again. PRAM reset doesn't work.
I also tried to share the screen with my MacBook while being disconnected from my TV so I could change the resolution that way, but that also won't seem to work. I'm stuck right now and I don't know what to do. I hope someone will be able to help.

Apple menu -> System Preferences -> Displays.
System Preferences can also be found in the Hard drive -> Applications folder.
Resetting the PRAM can help bring displays back to factory settings if you can't find what you need:

Facebook screen resolution changes automatically everytime on Mozilla Firefox 4. Other websites opens fine.

I have recently updated to Firefox 4. I am having many problems with this version.
I am unable to use Facebook properly. The Facebook screen resolution changes every time automatically. The screen resolution gets very big.
When I open the FB site the resolution will be fine as soon I open another tab to check other website and roll back to the FB tab the screen resolution gets big and can't get back to normal view.
I have to close the FB tab and open a new tab to put the FB URL to use it. When I try to view other tabs and then open the FB tab the screen resolution is changed.
I have problem with only FB on Firefox 4, other websites are working fine.
I also tried opening FB on IE8 and Chrome. Their the site is opening normal. Have no issues with their browsers. I spotted it to be a problem with Firefox 4 and also the IDM (Internet Download Manager) doesn't work on the FF4 where it used to work on the earlier version of FF.
Do something about the IDM integration with FF4 to download FLV,MP4 videos from YouTube and other websites.
There is no "Go back to multiple pages" button in a FF4 tab. It only allows us to go back to the previous page. If I have open 10 pages in a single tab then I have to click the back button 10 TIMES to open the last (10th page) but in the previous FF3 there is a facility to view all the pages in a drop down which the current version of FF4 doesn't have :-( I am using Windows XP 2 Professional 32-bit and owner of the computer.
Please fix the issues asap else I have to move back to the earlier version or have to shift to some other browser :

Quit Preview.
Go to Finder and select your user/home folder. With that Finder window as the front window, either select Finder/View/Show View options or go command - J. When the View options opens, check ’Show Library Folder’. That should make your user library folder visible in your user/home folder. Remove the following. You may not find them all.

I have to go into control panel every-time to adjust the resolution to make the print and screen layout small enough so its entirety is captured which then allows me to use I-Tunes. Screen resolution changed upon awake; old resolution no longer available

My new MSI Z97 i7 mobo based Windows TP woke from sleep this morning, with the resolution changed to 1024x768.
When I went to change it back to 1920x1200, that resolution is not available; only 1920x1024, and the screen looks odd. Unless advised otherwise, I will try to re-install the display drivers that came w/ the mobo, to get the display correct again. Otherwise,

Firstly, i would take the display and conect it to another machine. See if you can achieve this resolution with another computer. If the same problem occurs, i would say its the controller board on the LCD. if the resolution was there(on the other computer) then u may have a problem with the video card in your computer.

Spontaneous screen resolution change

I am running OS X Maverick since a few days.
If I don't use my system, the screen "goes to sleep" after 10 min. (like I always had).
Since the OS X upgrade I have the problem that my screen resolution changes to 800 * 600 after when I "rewake" the screen (by pressing a key).
When I look in the system preferences, the screen resolution is set to "best for my screen"
I have to change it manually to the original setting (1280 * 960)
Error in the screendriver????

Restart GKrellm on screen resolution change in KDE

Hi all!
Any trusty GKrellm wizards still out there? Or KDE mastahs?
I much prefer GKrellm and dockapps for my system monitor needs and currently use the former as a panel in the top right corner on my KDE 4.5 desktop. It works great except for screen resolution changes where switching from larger to smaller resolutions and vice versa breaks the alignment to the right border of the screen.
My question is if there is a lean way, either through GKrellm, KDE or even bash/d-bus or similar to restart GKrellm (which is fast and good enough a solution for me) when I change resolution? Any ideas?
I wish KDE had as an option for "on resolution change, execute X". Come to think of it, I would like KDE to offer this option for power management state switches as well. Hmm, perhaps there should be a generalized "state-based" daemon for launching arbitrary external commands in KDE much like the tools available on Android phones these days, like Tasker, Locale and Setting Profiles...

No hints for how to do this? What about in Gnome?

No one here knows when the next iOS update will be released or what changes it will include until Apple releases it.
iOS 6.1.2 does not disable Wi-Fi, the vast majority of issues with iPhones that appear after an iOS update can be resolved with basic troubleshooting which is reset, restart, restore (first from backup then as new).
If that does not resolve, then the issue is hardware related and no amount of iOS updates or restores will ever get it functional again.

This section is for home user Touchsmarts. Your software is also different then ours is so it would not do you any good for me to give you direction on how to adjust your screen resolution. Because your computer even though they look a like on the outside they are not alike inside. Thank you frrw.

Gnome freezes with screen resolution change

I have on old Dell computer for learning Arch. I installed gnome
and my screen looks fuzzy. I checked the screen resolution it
was set beyond the recomended resolution of the monitor (1024X768).
I set the resolution to 1024X768 and clicked "apply". The resolution
changed and indeed looked sharper, but the computer immediatly froze.
I had to power down and up after which the settings were lost.
I have no idea if this is a hardware or software problem. It would
seem that (perhaps) if 1024X768 were put in a configuration file,
the problem might be averted. But what configuration file?
Any help would be appreciated.
