Black screen on Satellite A100-712 after Bios update

I bought a new Satellite A100-712 and i did a bios upgrade, everything went well in windows and when the laptop got restarted it is stuck on the black toshiba screen which is displayed when we switch on the lapto.
Any suggestions please, I would be very thankfull

> i doubt toshiba didnt verify the drivers properly for all models
Sorry but I do not agree with you. BIOS update is very sensitive part of notebook upgrade and exactly there Toshiba must be 100% sure that everything works well. As I said in my previous posting I have updated BIOS on two WXP delivered A100 notebooks. One with number PSAA9E and other one with number PSAA2E. BIOS update on both units was successfully finished and I can confirm that offered BIOS on Toshiba download page is the right one.
Which model is your A100 (PSAxxx)? I have made BIOS update on PSAA9E because of VISTA OS installation. What is your reason for BIOS update on your A100?

This only happens after the notebook is waked up from sleepmode, maybe also from hibernate, but not when startup the Notebook. It seems that everything is working fine, but this message makes me nervous.

  • Satellite L630 dead after BIOS update

    Hi
I have a problem with a Toshiba Satellite Laptop L630 model PSK00E-017019EN (UK model).
A Toshiba software scan recommended a BIOS update and as I had been having some issues with the laptop I decided to let it run . . . bad mistake!
The laptop will now not fire up into bios so is effectively dead.
I have downloaded various versions of the Phoenix Crisis Recovery Disk (which will build a bootable USB flash drive with MINIDOS.SYS, PHLASH16.EXE and a generic BIOS.WPH) and have also downloaded the latest BIOS from the toshiba website.
The downloaded Toshiba BIOS is an exe file SL630_L635_WIN_B140.exe which will extract to the following files using WINRAR (I have also tried picking up the files from %temp% after running the exe file with the same result).
    The files I get are:
    BB10140.FD (4170kb)
    Ding.wav (104kb)
    InsydeFlash.exe (764kb)
    iscflash.dll (1760kb)
    iscflash.sys (14kb)
    iscflashx64.sys (23kb)
    and platform.ini (9kb)
I was expecting to see the actual bios in the form xxxx.rom or xxxx.WPH so that I could add this to the bootable flash drive to reflash the bios.
So my actual question is, could someone point me towards where I can download the correct BIOS.ROM file for this laptop and also where I can obtain the correct version of Phoenix Crisis Recovery Disk software.
Also could you confirm the correct key sequence to boot to the Crisis Recovery flash drive . . . I have seen mention of both FN F and FN B (both used without battery and whilst plugging in adapter and then power button) . . . the FN F routine seems to boot the Flash drive but obviously without the correct WPH file it will not solve the problem.
    Thanks
    Phil

    OK
.... well contacting Toshiba support was about as much using as whistling in the wind!
They had no knowledge of reflashing the bios, certainly could not send me an image for a crisis disk (even for a charge) . . . and their only suggestion was to have the laptop picked up for assessment and quote which would cost nearly 100 even if I didnt have it repaired. (I doubt if the laptop is worth much more than that)
So back to the forums in the hope that someone might point me to the correct USB Flash drive flashing routine for this laptop!
I have a feeling that the bootblock might now be damaged on the BIOS as it is now behaving differently if I try to flash the bios.
If I put the correct "bios.fd" file on a USB stick and then use FN-F on power up (no battery installed) then the usb stick flashes once, machine powers up, stays on for about 10 seconds and then restarts back to the black screen.
I have also tried (as suggested on one forum) putting all of the extracted files from the bios exe from Toshiba onto a stick + the FD file renamed as BIOS.FD . . . still the same result.
I am close to sticking it onto Ebay as "spares or repairs" . . . HELP!
    thanks
    Phil

So now i have after "switch on" only black screen, there ist no boot menu, no bios, only the fan ist running.
What can i do in this situation?
    Thanks: vladi

    Hi buddy,
the only thing you could do is to bring your machine to an ASP (authorized service partner) for a hardware checkup or BIOS repair because you in your situation cannot do anything.
Please, contact a service partner and send your machine to them, its the only way to solve your problems.
Heres a link to find the nearest ASP in your country:

  • Satellite L300-26K - After BIOS update the touchpad doesn't work anymore

    Hi,
like recommended by tempro, I updated BIOS from ver.2.1 to 2.2 (windows-Version). After rebooting, touchpad incl. tips doesnt work anymore. In bios touchpad is enabled, in system it says unit is working properly. FN/F9 makes no effect. Reinstalling synaptics drivers - no effect - still dead.
    Satellite L300-26K
    Using Vista 32bit home
How can I restore BIOS to 2.1 again? (if i try the windows-bios utility from V2.1 it says it is still installed - so I cannot downgrade by this easy way)
Please help - I need my notebook without external mouse (this works)

    Hi enigmo,
I cant imagine that this happened due the BIOS update. Have you tried reinstalling Windows by using Toshiba recovery disk?
This BIOS downgrade can only be done from an authorized service provider. The technicians can install every version because they have such special tools to make a downgrade.
On the Toshiba website you can find a list of them. Just give the guys and ask for that. They will help you! :)

  • Satellite L300 (PSLB8E) - After BIOS update it doesn't boot again

    Hello there..
Please help me to overcome this issue.
I have downloaded the latest BIOS for my Satellite L300 PSLB8E. The previous BIOS was 1.90 but I was facing some nework related error so I thought upgrading BIOS may help to solve it. I have download a new BIOS which is exe file 2.10, its installed successfully and then shut down but never booted again. I have tried to boot it many time. I have tried all the keys. I can only see one power led and two battery light.
I dont know what to do now. I have a recovery disk but it also not working. I'm stuck.Ii had a bunch of emails to reply I'm lost now.
    Please help me someone.

    Hi dhaval2000in,
Unfortunately I think the case is clear: Something went wrong due BIOS update and now your notebook cant start anymore :(
The Toshiba recovery disk will not help you because it doesnt contain any BIOS reflashing programs it contains only a recover image of Windows with all drivers and tools.
In my opinion you have to contact an authorized service provider in your country to get rid of this because the guys have to reflash the ROM module.
Im sure you can clarify this problem with the technicians and then you can use your notebook again :)

  • Satellite C55-A - after BIOS update cooling fan runs faster

    Hello,
I was informed by Toshiba application that new BIOS version is available I confirmed it and BIOS was updated. Now I have problem. Cooling fan runs faster than before and it is very annoying.
Can I find older BIOS version somewhere and roll it back? I don't need it if it doesn't work properly.
Now I have version 1.40. Is there some solution for this new version?
Message was edited: posting has been translated

Toshiba EU driver page provides only the latest BIOS version.
Furthermore the BIOS downgrade isnt possible using the win-bases BIOS update.
In order to downgrade the BIOS on Toshiba unit, you will need to use the traditional BIOS update method which requires special BIOS version. This is available only for authorized service provider.
At the other hand there must be an serious reason why the cooling module run faster.
Maybe the cooling method has been improved in new BIOS just to ensure that internal parts would be cooled down properly.
Its just an assumption but I think it makes sense
By the way: after each BIOS update, you should load the BIOS default settings and should save the changes. If you havent done this in the past, do it

  • Black screen on Equium A100-306 after watching movie on external projector

    Hi!
I've got Equium A100-306 Laptop and it was working fine. Yesterday I plugged in a projector and watched the movie.
Once i finished the movie i switch it off and disconnected the projector.
After few hours later i tried to switch my laptop and found that the inital screen loads up after that there's nothing in the screen.
I could go in the BIOS but couldn't go the Safe mode. I still remember i did use Fn and F5 key but nothing comes up so any help could be much appreciated.
As the initial screen loads up i don't think there's a problem on screen neither on graphic card as the toshiba logo shows up at the starting.
Can anyone help to figure out if tht's a hard disk problem may be.

Hmm for me it looks like the display was set ONLY to an external display device (projector, external monitor, etc) and therefore you are not able to see anything on the notebooks internal screen.
I think you should connect the projector or an second external monitor to this notebook and should try to set the display back to the default settings (notebook screen only)
The FN+F5 combination should help you.
As far as I know the notebook changes the screen output in this order:
*Internal screen* *(CRT) external screen + internal screen* *(CRT) external screen only* *TV (s-video out) + internal screen* *TV only (s-video out)*
So possibly you have chosen the last device (s-video out only)

  • Re: Blank screen on Satellite A200-1bw after Bios flashing

I have a Satellite A200-1bw and I have flashed my Bios when laptop froze.
So had to restart, now the screen wont come on.
Any help on what to do?
Do i need a new Bios chip from toshiba?

I have a Satellite A210-16G and i decided to flash new BIOS version (2.00-WIN32). I downloaded new version, unzipped two files (setup.exe and alaa200a.rom), quit all executed programs and disconnected internet, and launched setup.exe.
After that a program window apperared and it automatically started to check my bios version (strange thing - system cooler started to work with maximum rpm) and after 5-10 secs that window became blink and in the top there was a "No response" message.
I thought it's ok and i was waiting for about 15 minutes for some result...
But i got no one. I closed this window, and tryed to reboot, but suddenly i got a white screen.
I turned off a camputer by holding power button.
And after this i cant turn it on - i press power button, then a power led turns on and thats all, blink screen, no response.

  • HP dv6911om - Black Screen Blinking Cursor- no Boot after BIOS

Hello, I was wondering if anyone had some experience with boot/startup issues. My computer tells me that it cannot detect an os. I have installed multiple Operating systems including linux based. The computer does start up sometimes, about 1/15 restarts.
I have tried resetting the phoenix bios. I have replaced the cmos battery, the initial tests specified a bad hard drive. Mem test was fine. It was a 200 GB (4200 rpm) I replaced it with a 500gb 7200rpm. After I replaced the hdd and installed the factory OS then began this new issue of no OS found. It HAS booted on multiple occasions. More so when I installed ubuntu. I have partitioned and set multiple OS including its factory Vista, ubuntu. I don’t even care if a different OS has to be installed or completely changing anything. Don’t mind learning Linux, that would be great actually. I just want this machine to run on startup. Any Ideas, tricks or new OS/software is accepted.
Is there some special trick to partitioning? Is there any possible way to reset or bypass the factory OS, or 'unlock' the computer? Maybe the bios and set it up with a different OS. The factory disks dont seem to be doing the trick.
here she is, the exact model:
    http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c01512668&tmp_task=prodinfoCatego ry&cc=us&dlc=e...
I paid a decent amount for this laptop and have not really been able to use it much.!
    Any help greatly appreciated!
    Thank you for your time!

did this also happen when you just had the factory image (Vista) installed? There are some steps to follow when setting up a dual boot system. We need to know if the "os not detected" was present with only windows vista installed.
    I work for HP.

  • How to enable LCD sensor in Satellite C850-B374 after BIOS update?

    Hi, friends
I m currently a satisfied Toshiba customer since april 2013. I have been using laptops since 2007 having used various brands I found Toshiba to be good one.
I have recently updated the Bios from 6.0 to 6.50 from the Toshiba service station.
Update was successful and the computer works fine.
But after rebooting the LCD sensor which activates the Power button in this specific model of laptop is not working. After entering the bios setting utility i came to know that ec version is 6 and bios version 6.50 At this point How to enable the lcd sensor to automatically boot while i open the lcd
    Ashik

    >How to enable the lcd sensor to automatically boot while i open the lcd
You want to boot up the notebook by opening the lid. Right?
In this case you have to enable the option within the Windows 8 system settings
[Why does my Windows 8 notebook start automatically when opening the display lid?|http://aps2.toshiba-tro.de/kb0/FAQ2C03FA0001R01.htm]
You have to look for the option called: +Panel Open - Power On" feature+
This option needs to be enabled in order to boot up the computer automatically when the display lid is open

  • Satellite A100-590 PSAA9E freezes on Toshiba welcome screen after BIOS update

    Hi.
Yesterday I did a BIOS update on my Satellite A100-590 PSAA9E-03Z00QGR with the appropriate flash:
    http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com/cgi-bin/ToshibaCSG/download_driver_details.jsp?service=EU&selCategory =2&selFamily=2&selSeries=153&selProduct=624&langua ge=17&selOS=10&selType=all&yearupload=&monthupload =&dayupload=&useDate=null&mode=userMachines&search =&action=search&macId=&country=all&selectedLanguag e=17&type=all&page=1&ID=58477&OSID=-1&driverLanguage=42
    bios-20070709111839.zip
After the flashing procedure the machine rebooted automatically, but unfortunately it now keeps hanging at the Thoshiba welcome screen. Also pressing F2 or F12 won't change anything. It seems like the BIOS is corrupt.
I saw, that in the BIOS package are delivered two flash files (s10gm590.rom and s10pm590.rom). But just executing the SanAntonion10 BIOS590MP.exe a .vbs script is started that decides automatically chooses and loads a flash file. Maybe it chose the wrong one?
What shall I do now? Is there a way to restore the BIOS, or do I have to send my notebook in?
    Thanks in advance
    MAT

    > Satellite A100-590 PSAA9E freezes on Toshiba welcome screen after BIOS update
What to say Marc. It looks like you have used a wrong BIOS version or you have updated the BIOS in wrong way.
You could try to access the BIOS and try to set the settings to default.
Dont forget to save the settings if you will exit the BIOS.
But if this procedure does not help, you will have to contact the ASP in your country.
Possibly the guys will try to flash the BIOS again with other special version.
    Good luck
    Greetings

  • Satellite A300 - After BIOS update black screen

    Hello all,
I just applied the BIOS update on my Satellite A300. After the update successful, the system does a reboot. Now when I try to power it up I get no display, I can hear the hear running, the CD Drive reading the DVD, led blinking.
The Toshiba ASP tolled me (phone call) the mainboard should be replaced after a unsuccessful bios update, but it's very expensive for me, :(
Please can you tell me if they are any way to fix it without mainboard replacement? The bios is a Insyde and according to the website the bios has bios [Recovery Technology|http://www.insydesw.com/press/2008/press_060308.htm]. I guess that the ASP doesn't know that.
Please can you tell me how to start the recovery procedure if it's possible (key combination?),
Any help about fixing the laptop without mainboard replacement will be much appreciated.

There are cases when the chip that containes the bios is removed from the motherboard and with a memory writing device (special to do this) it is posible to rewrite the bios(in my country, Romania it is not possible at the Toshiba Service, they change the motherboard wich cost 400-500 euro, but there are guys in electronics who do things like this...).
This is the happy case to rewrite, when this is possible. But there are exceptions when you can't do anything and you have to change the motherboard.(bad bios update coud burn your entire motherboard or several components /parts).
In what I've read " For example, on other manufactures PC compatible systems with Award BIOS and AMI BIOS there is dedicated small area, often about 8 kiB or so, called bootblock which starts first" , if your bios si from award or ami they have lets say a small progam which starts first, checks if bios is oki then is booting normal , if not it tries to recover it and boot.
In your case this is not possible even if you have the specific computer with that kind of bios because the screen doesn't start.
*Your case is simillar to mine* so you could hope that your video card is broken and not your motherboard.
My advice to you is to go to the service and diagnostic the problem and see what is the solution.

  • Satellite Pro L300: BSOD after BIOS update

    Hi
after update the Bios of Satellite Pro L300, the windows not start!
Its show the blue dead screen!
    What can i do?

    Hi
Are you able to access the BIOS settings?
Im not quite sure why this BSOD appears but possibly the SATA mode settings have been changed after BIOS update
Usually the SATA mode should be set to AHCI if the SATA drivers are installed.
But if the SATA drivers are not included the SATA mode should be set to compatible.
    Please check this!
Furthermore you could set the BIOS to the default settings and could try to boot the machine again.
