Black screen on startup and NUM lock is still ON

Hi,
please, I have Toshiba Satellite C855-1QC PSCBYE. All was fine, but tommorow morning my laptop didn't want start up. Screen stay black and NUM lock is ON. I canno't turn it off or CAPS lock turn on. What is happend? What ist wrong? I canno't find error codes via LED's on startup

That doesn't appear to be a US model, and this is the forums for Toshiba USA. You may want to contact Toshiba in your region.

Black screens at startup and sleep wakeup

In both 10.5.7, 10.5.8 and now continuing with Snow Leopard, I am getting black screens when I boot. I first noticed this behavior upon waking from sleep in the morning. If I schedule the machine to sleep, it's very likely to not turn the monitor on when it wakes up. The machine is alive, I can ssh to it, etc., but the monitor is dead. All I know to do is reboot by holding the power key down. Upon reboot, I often get the black screen again once or twice. All this forced rebooting cannot be good for my filesystem. I'm suspecting hardware. I guess I need to get a good reproducer and take it to the "geniuses" at apple, no? Any suggestions for troubleshooting this?

Forgot to mention this is on my Intel Mac Pro desktop at home. I have three macs and an iPhone. Apple *****.

My hp pavilion dv4 screen wont turn on but the cap, and num lock blink

My Hp pavilion dv4- 2145dx and my laptop screens stays black but the key board stays on like the caps lock and the number lock, the mouse, volume, and the wifi light they all turn on and so do the fans but the caps and num lock blink every second at this point i dotn know what to do can anyone help

First, try a Hard Reset as follows.
Shut down the notebook, unplug the AC Adapter and then remove the battery. Hold down the Power button for a full minute. Re-insert the battery, plug in the AC Adapter and see if the notebook will start.
If it still doesn't start, is there a sequence to the 'blinks' that you can match to the table below?

HP Laptop. Blank screen and caps and num lock lights flashing.

I hope you can help me.
My laptop is the HP Pavilion DV6-1216sa, bought new in September 2009. When I turn it on, I get a blank screen, the fan is working and the wifi, volume and mute lights light up. The caps lock and num lock lights flash together, once everyone 3 or 4 seconds. Normally when this happens (it has happened throughout the life of the laptop), I turn it off and turn it back on, and it works again. However this time, the problem persists. I've tried most combinations to get the bios screen up and I've tried getting it to another screen via hdmi and VGA, but no signal received. I have tried everything recommended by the HP support website. I have checked the battery, ram, and hard drive.

The best cheapest fix is if you can remove the motherboard your self and send it to a refabricator who will check all the chips on the motherboard and reball the bad ones. Cost is about $60-120, closer to the bottom if you can ship them just the board but if necessary they will take the whole laptop and remove the board for you.

Caps and Num lock blinking indefinitely

Hey everyone.
My brother just encountered the infamous startup error on his dv7-2045eo with blinking Caps and Num lock, but they are not blinking 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 or 6 times. They just continue to blink. What exactly does that mean? Other than that, it's just the regular startup error thing with black screen. We've tested the power supply, and it's just fine, so it shouldn't be a power issue.
The hard drives are also okay.
Any ideas?

Equium A100 black screen on startup

Toshiba Equium A100 laptop
Completely black screen on startup so please don't say go into safe mode etc, because I can't.
I can't see a thing.
Like once in every 100 goes it will come on and I can F12 to boot from the format disk but it eventually freezes before completion.

Look not good dude I think its an serious hardware issue
I checked the movie and cannot hear a beep when the notebook passes the POST (power on self-test). So for me it looks like something wrong with the hardware
But did you try to connect an external monitor in order to check if something would be visible on second screen? Check this
You could also try this:
Disconnect AC adaptor, remove the battery, wait some time (3-5 hours), then connect both parts and try to power up the notebook. If this fails, well in such case have no many other ideas. Ohhh wait maybe you could check the RAM modules. Try to power up the notebook using one module in each slot

I was trying to upgrade to 10.6.1 and now I got a black screen at startup. Only the keyboard has the backlight on. Nothing on the secreen. What should I do ?

Black screen on startup early 2008 macbook pro

I am very disappointed with Apple right now. My early-2008 15 inch macbook pro shows a blank/black screen on startup. The hd runs fine and I can dim and undim the backlight on the screen but it stays black/blank.
I talked to an Apple rep and she told me that it was probably my graphics card (which I asked her specifically about when I researched and found many other people like myself with the same issue and then the lawsuit that came as a result). Of course, Apple no longer replaces the graphics card (like a true business person would) as of December 2012 even though they know the cards in the macbooks pros are defective. The Apple rep told me that I would have to take it in to a Apple tech to get it "officially" diagnosed as the graphics card being bad (which would cost me @$150 just for it to be looked at!) and then I would probably still have to pay for the repair!
Of course this happened in the middle of the week while I was in the middle of working on a sermon and other presentation projects. So I had to do my best to try to work from scratch without access to the info on my hd because the graphics card is defective.
Apple, you know the card is defective so please just replace the card! I'm not asking for any perks or upgrades! Just to be able to use my Macbook Pro that, up until now, I have been bragging about and telling everyone how happy I was to switch over from windows!

You're not alone. I am having similar problems with my Ipod 5th gen 30gb.
When I connect it to my laptop (Vista - basic) it is not recognised by itunes. Itunes simply locks up.
So far I have tried the following to no avail:
Checked my pc's device manager - it recognises the device and says it is functioning properly.
Checked the drivers to make sure they are upt to date.
Uninstalled & reinstalled a previous version of itunes (as it worked fine before the latest release).
Reinstalled the latest itunes.
Reset the ipod.
Put the ipod into disk mode and reconnected to itunes.
Have tried to use the windows tool to scan and fix any bad sectors but it fails to complete a scan without locking that up as well.
Placed into disk mode when fully charged and then allowed the battery to drain completely. Then reconnected ipod (in disk mode)and it still is not recognised and locks up itunes.
At this point I dont really want to part with another $300 odd dollars for a new one.

Same problem with my 2 yr old HP Pavilion tx 2000
I sent it back to HP for repair and paid around $300. It broke down with the same symptoms after 2 weeks. Sent it back to them again. Again after a month the same issue happened. Luckily all of this happened within 90 day warranty. Sent it to them again.
Now today after 4 months of last repair my laptop wont turn on, with exactly the same symptoms. Called HP today, and the representative was trying to sell me a new laptop a srepair is no more under warranty.
I spent $900 on the original computer and another $300 for repairs and what they are advising me now is to buy a new one. Even they dare to ask me to buy their product again as they say I should not judge the company through my bad experience.

DV4 flashing caps lock and num lock lights

My laptop, an HP Pavilion DV4-2040US, has stopped booting up recently. The day before this problem come about I was using the laptop perfectly fine. I then went one day without using. When I turn on the laptop it booted up but nothing showed up on the screen. Then the CAPS LOCK and NUM LOCK lights started to blink on and off.
I did some researching about the blinking lights and what they mean but I don't think mine is listed on there. It says the pattern will repeat a couple of times then shut off, but mine doesn't. The pattern is the CAPS LOCK and NUM LOCK both blink once every 3 seconds (about) and keeps blinking every 3 seconds forever. The only time they stop blinking is when I shut I down by holding the power button on the laptop.
I've tried disconnecting everything and holding for 15 seconds and even tried holding it for 30 seconds and that still didn't fix the problem. I called HP support and the guy who I talked to told me it sounded like a motherboard issue, but he wasn't sure exactly and told me to ask here for help.
If it matters, I can hear the fan turn on for about 2 seconds then stop. Also all the touch sensitive buttons light up too$

Please, someone, anyone help me. I am having this exact same problem as we speak It happened after i put the laptop to sleep overnight. The LEDs for capslock and numlock blink consistently but slowly-approximatelt 2-3 seconds. When started up, i hear the fan come on for maybe a second or two and then comes off.I've tried all the mentioned solutions - i removed the battery for a while and put it back in-i tried the four arrows-i tried started up with AC adapted but without battery - and still no fix. Continously flashing caps and num lock dv7

I've got a vista dv7-2120sa that I recently bought off ebay as spares repairs to use the keyboard, fan and battery on my long term laptop which is a windows 7 dv7-2230sa. I'm assuming the parts are all compatible but the ebay laptop is in very nice condition so would like to try and get it working. Thing is it only gets as far as a blank screen, the fan works, the disc drive works ie I can hear it moving, lights are on but the caps lock and num lock blink continuously at intervals of approx 3-4 seconds - any ideas?

I should think you might find the Product key on the lable on the bottom) on a notebook of this vintage.
The product key is a 25 character-number code and can be used to install the original Operating System. If you cannot find, use, or decipher the product key, you can buy a copy of Windows 7 for the computer and then install the HP software from the system's webpage.

Depending on when the notebook was manufactured (mid 2009 and more recent), you might be able to update the diagnostics to use the UEFI set. The main advantage of using this method is that of the GUI (graphics interface). You can live without it. Assuming you can use it, you can install the UEFI onto a USB stick and use that to run the modules.

it shows up on my dad's t61 7665d61
and my uncles thinkpad edge AMD on the edge it shows a graphical capslock and on the t61 it says capslockn/capslock ff

It shows up on my T61 - which has physical indicators on the screen bevel - there's a small text-block coming up over the clock in the lower right corner, saying "Caps Lock on/off" and "Num Lock on/off" and "Scroll Lock on/off"
So the physical indicators got nothing to do with it.
Running Vista Pro 64 with an odd assortment of Lenovo-apps running/installed (not entirely sure which one is responsible for this behavior, unfortunately, since I've reinstalled and removed several on and off to see which ones I really need and which are useless).
