Black Screen Playing Rented HD Movie

I have itunes 10.6.17 on Windows 7 x64 with 12GB Memory and a 2GB Graphics Card. I have 3 Monitors.
I have in the last 2 days rented 1 SD Movie and Tower Heist in HD. I got a message on the screen saying I could play the movie, even though it is still downloading it. When I click play, it gives me a black screen and the progress bar doesn't progress. If I move it manually I can see the movie frames.
The SD Movie played fine but this may be an entirely red herring.
I have the latest graphics drivers and I have rebooted.
I have about 22 hours to resolve the issue before my rental gets revoked.
Itunes support says it's down right now in my region.

I had the same problem. Three movies some HD, some not. Completely white screen, but pushing fast forward button the chapter names would show up in white with slight shadows.
I pushed and held the "-" and the "menu" buttons to force a restart. When it was done the movies played just fine. If that doesn't work, unplug the unit and plug it back in.
I have to force a restart weekly as the ATV will stop dead if ignored for a day or two, but this is the first time I've had the white movies problem.
Good luck,

  • Black screen in tv and movies

I have a bunch of TV shows and more than a few movies and a bunch of music. iTunes plays the music without any problems.  It will not play any of the TV shows or movies.  When I click on the icon, all I get is a black screen.  I'm running the latest version of iTunes (12).  iTunes is installed on a WIN 7/64.
    Any ideas?

After further looking online, I powered my iPad on and off and mirroring started working.

  • Black screen when loading CP4 movie in flash layer

Since I installed the latest Flash Player 11.1 I've encountered a strange probleem. When I load a CP4 SWF movie (with standard CP preloader) sometimes I get a black screen. I can't find the problem? Who does have an idea where to find the problem?

A year or so ago there was a similar issue with a Flash Player release: http://www.infosemantics.com.au/adobe-captivate-advanced-elearning-tutorials/flash-player- conflicts-with-text-animations
On that occasion it turned out to be an issue with Text Animations in Cp5 being incompatible with the new version of FP.
Since you're on Cp4 and you're using a totally different version of Flash Player it would seem unlikely to be the same issue, but your mention of a Black Screen makes me wonder if perhaps there might be some element from Cp4 which is conflicting.
You can try a process of elimination to locate the slide or slides on which the conflict might exist.  Just hide all slides in one half of the project and publish to see if the issue remains.  If it does, unhide all of the first slides and then hide all slides in the other half of the project.  If the issue is resolved, keep hiding specific groups of slides until you locate the issue.  If it's confined to a single slide, try deleting elements on the slide and then publishing to see if you can find the offending item.

  • Blank green screen when renting a movie

We rented a movie from itunes but when we went to watch it all that we could see was a green screen. Help please?

I have the same problem too!!!
I always get this problem and I have solved it by connecting my iPad to my computer and reinstall everything, and then the films has started downloading. But I can’t do that every time I want to hire a film!

  • AE CS5 only see black when playing a rendered mov file in QT

AE CS5 Mac 10.6:  After rendering a movie as Render:Best Settings / Output:Lossless I get an mov file (quite large, 193MB) - awesome thats what needs to happen.  Now upon viewing that mov file within QT, I get the timer (8 seconds) and the playhead scrolls those 8 seconds, yet I see nothing - only darkness and utter black.  Now on the flip:  when I render this same file as Best Settings / H.264 and play the mp4 wha lah you get a smooth playing video.  Downside, this file needs to be uncompressed and at the highest quality and playable in QT (a mov).  Is the file too large for my machine to handle playing?  Is this another QT vs AE bug?  Anyone please, input is as alway greatly appreciated.  Oh, 1 more piece of the puzzle: Pixel Aspect Ratio: D1/DV NTSC Widesceen (1.21).  This is a file to be played on an LED arena ribbon...
    Thanks

    >  Is there a codec missing from my AE?
That wouldn't cause the file to play fine in some places and not elsewhere.
This is a gigantic file in terms of horizontal pixel dimensions, and the data rate is quite large, too (nearly 200MB for only 8 seconds). I suspect some combination of QuickTime Player and the computer on which you're trying to play it (e.g., slow hard disks).
Does it really matter whether this can play in QuickTime Player? We've seen that it plays in post-production software. Has the client tried playing it in the way that it will actually be played/used---i.e., on the LED screen at the arena?
And, again, are you and they really sure that this huge losslessly compressed format is what is required? As I said before, this is very much not the kind of format that is intended for playback and distribution. Uncompressed files and files compressed with Animation are intended for purposes like use as intermediate files in post-production, not playback.

Are there some settings/file formats that ATV2 and iPhone can handle that ATV1 can't?
AppleTV 1 is limited to h264 720p at 24 fps officially with a bitrate of up to 5Mbps. Chapter markers and two audio tracks are not an issue if encoded properly.
Both iPhone 4 and AppleTV are more capable at video playback due to newer more powerful processors, and AppleTV 2 handles higher bitrate encodings and settings AppleTV 1 can't.
    What did you encode with?
If Handbrake did you use AppleTV 1 preset? If soo did you customise the encoding options or use the one provided?
If you used Handbrake with AppleTV2 preset those files are unlikely to be AppleTV 1 compatible.
Funnily enough I encoded a batch of things the other day and one rebooted the AppleTV 1, though I was having lots of network issues due to a faulty component and haven't actually retested that file. I'm pretty sure I encoded with AppleTV 1 preset, I guess it's possible there's a spurious bug.

  • New twist on the dreaded white screen when renting movies

I have been hit with the nasty white screen after renting a movie. After reading the discussion forum, this is apparently a "personality" issue with ATV and Apple has not yet found a fix. However, after performing the "pull-the-plug" reboot, which in the past has corrected the problem, I now have a new problem. When the main menu appears after reboot, it is frozen and it does NOT respond to the remote. The only command it recognized was the menu + "-" reset command. When it resets and comes to the screen asking for restart, diagnostics, or factory reset choices, the remote works. But when you select restart and get back to the main menu, it freezes. (I ran diagnostics and ATV says it feels fine.) For some reason, a bug is preventing atv from recognizing any remote commands. Right now I am in the 24hr movie viewing window, and I will let that period elapse to see if the corrupted white screen rented movie just dies its deserving death and releases the main menu back to my command.
I guess my ultimate ploy would be factory reset, but then aren't I put back in the position of re-syncing my 6,000 songs, and photo library?
    Anyone else have this glitch??

  • Mid-2010 15in. MacBook Pro going to black screen requiring reset by holding power button

    Hello all,
I have been searching for a problem solution for quite some time now. I have a mid-2010 15" Macbook Pro (2.4GHz Intel I5; 4 GB mem) updated to version 10.7.5. The computer randomly goes to a black screen, while the program / movie / whatever is still running (I can hear the sound) and then stalls. I then have to hold the power button down until it will reset. I will post the error message at the end of this.
I have wiped the computer clean and reinstalled everything and that did not help. I am no longer under Apple warrenty and hoping that someone has experienced. Short of me finding an answer I will take it in to Apple. Thanks in advance for any help!

You have the MacBookPro6,2, the Edsel of Macs. It may be covered by this program:
MacBook Pro (15-inch, Mid 2010): Intermittent black screen or loss of video
Make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store, or go to another authorized service provider, to have the machine tested. The routine hardware diagnostics used by service providers may not detect the fault. There is a specific test for this issue.
Print the first page of the panic report, and the support page linked above, and bring them with you.
Note that the replacement program only applies within three years of purchase. If you wait beyond that date, Apple may refuse the service. In that case, you'll be quoted a price of about $300 (in the U.S.) for a depot repair. The model was discontinued in February 2011, so the replacement program will be ending quite soon.
Back up all data on the internal drive(s) before you hand over your computer to anyone. If privacy is a concern, erase the data partition(s) with the option to write zeros* (do this only if you have at least two complete, independent backups, and you know how to restore to an empty drive from any of them.) Don’t erase the recovery partition, if present.
Sometimes the replacement part is also defective, so be prepared for that possibility.
If it's too late for your unit to be repaired under the program, and you don't want to pay for a new logic board, you may be able to stop the panics by disabling automatic graphics switching.
*An SSD doesn't need to be zeroed.

  • Windows 8.1 update - S440 ThinkPad black screen with flickering cursor.

    Hello,
Sorry if this is answered elsewhere.
I have an S440. I've had it for one week. Two days ago I downloaded the Windows 8.1 update from the store. Since then, when I start up the computer, it doesn't even taken me to the 'sign in' screen. There's just a black screen. When I move the cursor, it briefly appears, flickers, then disappears again.
I understand this is an issue with the graphics drivers. So I ran Windows in safemode and disabled Intel R HD Graphics family and AMD Radeon HD  8600 series graphics drivers.
This, unfortunately, hasn't fixed the problem. It still boots to a black screen with an occasionally flickering cursor. I'm currently running in safemode.
    Any advice?
    Thanks,
    Alex
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Hi
I also have an S440 and have tried 3 times to update laptop without success including updating all drivers and updates inc those from Lenovo.
Is there a fix for this? Is this an AMD issue?
My laptop is also very new and cannot believe it is incompatible with windows 8.1.
Tried the compatibility checker with Windows 8.1and it didn't report any problems.http://windows.microsoft.com/en-gb/windows-8/upgrade-assistant-download-online-faq
Is there anything that can be done to get this working?

  • After errors with disk partition, I removed Windows from my iMac. Now when I start my computer it goes into a black screen and not straight into the Mac area like it used to, unless I hold Alt straight away to give me the option.  Any help?

    Hi,
Sorry, I'm new to the community, so apologies if I'm repeating myself.
OK, so I tried to install Windows Vista onto my iMac with the disk partition.  Everything was going fine and it wasn't until last minute, when it was installed that an error came up saying that this can only be done with Windows 7.  After this error, I couldn't access any errors of my iMac and when I shut down and restarted my computer, it automatically logged into Windows.
So after a panic, I rang Apple Care and the lady helped me log into my apple area, delete Windows from my iMac, and all was restored.
However, now when I shut down my computer and boot it back up, I think my iMac is trying to log into Windows areas that no longer exist.  It loads up a black screen and doesn't move from there.  To log into my Apple area, I have to do the whole process of holding Alt immediately after I switch the power on and access the Mac drive and log in that way.
It's beginning to become a real pain and I'm paranoid this process is going to damage my computer.  Any advice on how to restore logging-in back to it's former glory when I first purchased it?
    Thanks

Solved it.  Thank you very much for that!

It seems as though quite a few files are missing, though the yaourt built the application just fine.

I had the same issue with the git version. Install the stable version and it should work fine

  • I can't get rid of the black screen...Help

When i launch Final Cut Pro, all i get is a black screen. When i move the curser to the top of the screen i then get the drop down options showing all the option headings. I can view the main pages, but as soon as i try to do anything with the software, it goes straight back to the black screen.
I realise i have probably clicked on something i should not have done, but how do i clear it.
    TY

I don't understand what you mean when you say 'I can view the main pages', but, you've probably set your video playback to full screen.
Move the cursor to the top of the screen and go to View, down at the bottom of the list go to Video Playback, and then select 'None' from the list of options.
