Black screen presario CQ57

When I turn my Presario CQ57 laptop on the screen remains black. The power is emitting blue light and the F12 is emitting orange but the caps lock button will flash blue two times, pause, then repeat the cycle. I have tried to hard reset the laptop several times yet I can not figure out the problem. I have searched everywhere on this site but can't seem to find an answer anywhere, please help.

Hi,
Two time blink on the caps locks issue is related to BIOS corruption. Check the below link for more information

  • Black screen Presario CQ62-219WM Clear CMOS jumper pins

About 2 years ago I bought my son the laptop for school from Walmart new. 6 months later, he brought it back to me from his Mom's and said it quit working. At that time, to check it out first, it booted to the HP screen only. Tried to get into the BIos with F2 but it was unsuccessful. Did the usual hard rested sequence with battery out,->unplug adapter-> Hold power button down 1 minute -> reboot with battery only and then with adapter plugged in. No change. Removing the RAM modules didn't make a difference. I replaced both Memory card to 2 GB X2 . Still wouldn't boot. Removed the HDD and replaced it with a known working drive from another 64 bit Wndows 7 OS and that didn't work. The original HDD is readable because it worked in the exchange. As a last resort, I built an Ubuntu live USB put that into the USB port on the presario (32 bit Ubuntu) and no success either. Can't reflash the BIOS. I decided that before I do anything more I would just take it back to Walmart as it was less than a year old and was directed to do so by HP (return it to where it was purchased). When I did, I was informed that because I was concerned of a motherboard problem, it was not covered under warranty and I was essentially stuck. I was recently unemployed so that was it. Went home, read some more and looked at the board and the capacitors visually and nothing grossly abnormal. I tried clearing the CMOS only by removing the battery and cold storing it for 24 hrs. Replaced it and still nothing. Read about the jumpers to CLRCMOS but I have looked on both sides of the board And there are no free pins, and nothing that Identifies anything to say clr CMOS or a variation of that. He wants to have his own back even though it has been a valuable learning tool. So .... Do you have a final suggestion other than go on eBay, buy a new board for $90, and quit trying to fix an unrepairable problem? He's going back to school and I still am out of work. Thank you in advance for any help you can give me.

There are no clear CMOS jumpers on the board. My best suggestion is to use one of the motherboard repair services on eBay. They can identify and repair defective chips on the board using advanced equipment. If you can remove the board and ship them just that, I have seen the service for as little as $70. Obviously you can handle removing the motherboard.

I have no affiliation with this person and there are several other similar ones on eBay. Most of the used motherboards you get on eBay have had a procedure like this done to them anyway.

  • Compaq Presario SR1330NX desktop. Black screen after restarting after recovery using disks

My Compaq presario SR1330NX desktop computer which has XP. Years ago I accidentally deleted the recovery partition. I ordered the recovery disks. I have done successful recoveries with them. Although it has been years. I did a recovery from disk. I dont think I did it correctly as it had been a while. Anyway, It never asked me for the 2nd disk, but it said the recovery was successful and to restart the computer. I thought that maybe it had made its own new recovery partition when using the disks before. So I restarted the computer and all I get is a black screen with compaq on it and some weird symbols in the left upper corner that look like
    >triangle,Divide sign,Square,upside down t with a line under it,zero and a weird looking capital B".
And it does NOTHING. I put disks in it does nothing. This is the only screen that comes up and nothing else works. What did I do? and How can I fix this?

Hello tinkyferret, The HP Recovery Restore disk set makes a new Recovery Partition when they are used to recover the system.
You might try the HP Recovery Restore procedure from the hard drive, if you have not, and see if it wil complete successfully.
Normally on a Compaq system, you press the F-10 key to enter the Recovery Restore utility.

  • Presario f700 black screen at start up,

presario f700 black screen at start up, if left  to own it flashes hard drive light once fan starts then turns off the starts again can get it to stop this sequence by pressing certain keys but screen always stays black and remote screen does not turn on. Have tried removing memory, hard reset, removed ram, have tested hard drive out of device. Anything else I can try.
Book says 15secs for a hard reset, one post said 30secs, which is correct

Hi, 30 secs is the better of the two options there. I am assuming the Hard drive tested fine? You can try turning the computer on with out the hard drive in it and see if you atleast get some text saying not bootable device or if you are able to boot into BIOS. If this does not happen you can switch out the ram chips. (boot with one chip then take it out and boot with the other) see if these work. If these steps fail its more than likly more of a hardware issue with the systemboard.

  • Compaq presario cq61 black screen

  • Compaq presario cq56 black screen on boot up after replacing the fan and keyboard

Hi the cpu fan on my computer died, so we replaced it and i took the opertunity to replace the keyboard at the same time.
Now the fan works just fine the blue/white power button works, initially the caps lock button came on and stayed on but no longer comes on at all.
I am quite the novice in all things computer so think i may have done something stupid, and fried the motherboard, but if anyone could come up with something for me to try before i have to go through replacing that bit i would appreciate it.
Oh i have tried an external monitor and it says recieving no signal on the screen.
    Thanks for helping

    Hi @carriebevan
Welcome to the HP Community! I saw your post regarding the problem with the notebook going to a black screen after replacing the fan and the keyboard. To be honest with you there isn't a whole lot that I can do for you in this manner. Try seeing if you can get into the operating system using Safe Mode. If you can then we can look at a couple of things.

  • Laptop overheats very easily - HP Presario CQ57

    1) HP Presario CQ57
    2) Windows 7 64
Whenever I play games on my laptop (i.e. Civilization 5, Fallout:  New Vegas, Skyrim) after a few minutes my laptop screen fades into black and slowly turns off. When I turn it back on it tells me it has turned off to prevent overheating. While I appreciate this feature, it is very bothersome and affects my gameplay greatly. I use a "game booster" that supposedly helps the game on lower end PCs like mine but it does not seem to help the issue either way. I also prop my laptop up at about a 35 or 45 degree angle off of my desk, however it still does not prevent the issue (although it helps). I've cleaned the fan on one occasion and it did not seem to help. Any help is very much appreciated, thank you in advance.

We need to know the exact model laptop you have to figure out its specs. The games you list are not horribly demanding but would be a stretch for a lower end laptop like the CQ57 assuming it uses the AMD HD6250 graphics....it meets the minimum specs for Civ 5, for example but is short of the recommended specs.

  • How do i re install the file windows root\system32\hal.dll from a black screen

I was given two of the exact same computers a compaq presario c500 c501nr. One had major cosmetic issues and the other the mother board was no good so i put them together to make one good one. everything went well except i now have a black screen on boot up that says [please re-install a copy of this file<windows root>\system32\hal.dll.]  how do i go about finding that and installing it? it runs windows vista

  • Black Screen Appear during Operating System normal usage

    Hi!
I have a Compaq Presario CQ50-102LA, the problem that I have is that when I try to use the operating sytem a black screen appears(sometimes the sreen is blue or red or green)
I thought that the problem was with my Operating System, but I tried installing Ubuntu, Win Xp and Win7 and the problems persists..
I made the hard disk and memory tests from the BIOS and it was OK.
I also tried disconnecting the wireless card and the CD/DVD drive bit didn't work...
I don't know what else to do.. I'll really appreciate if you could help me!!
    Thanks

    Follow up on previous post..
If it says that there is no hard drive detected, it means that it cannot find any hard drive connected on the computer to install the OS to.
So first, test your Hard drive if it is detected in SetUp or BIOS, by tapping F10 on boot up. You'll have a HD test utility under diagnostic.
If it shows that "No IDE device found"
Reseat the HD, check this website to know how to reseat your HD
        http://h20181.www2.hp.com/plmcontent/NACSC/SML/
If it shows in the test that its detectecting the HD and doing the HD test. Try different installation disk, or might need the original Recovery Disk for the notebook.
Sig: A user told the computer: "Cant you do anything right?!!"

  • C700 Laptop: Not booting: Black screen: No BIOS

My 4 years old Compaq Presario c700 (C794) laptop is not booting up. Does not go into BIOS, and does not even show the message “Press F10 to enter BIOS” etc.
I see a clear black screen (but has backlit and I am able to adjust the brightness using Fn keys). Tried on the desktop monitor, it is black too.
The HD is running intermittently, all LEDs are on, and the fan is running.
Windows is not booting up, there is no log on sound. WIFI light is also orange, it becomes green after booting is complete. HD activity is on but it is not as much to boot up Windows 7.
    Troubleshooting I did till now:
Hard reset by holding down the power button several times.
Cleaned RAM and placed it in another slot.
Removed the power and battery and kept it overnight.
Tried on the desktop monitor, it is black too.
This happened all of a sudden. I did not do any BIOS updates or anything that normally causes these kind of problem. I learned from some forums that an exhausted CMOS battery can cause it. Is it true? In this case, can you please give the location of the CMOS battery in these laptops?
What are the other measures I can take?

  • How to solve black screen problem

i have a   Compaq presario cq60-140EK  after i did a disk check because while im using windows blue screens came often so i did a disk check (it is suggested in the begining of startup) but while the system is analyzing the disk it freezes and the the pourcentage of analyzing stopped i wait too long and nothing happens so i turned the computer off (by removing the power)

Can somebody help me ! thank you !

    Hi,
You can try all the troubleshooting steps mentioned in the links below and check.
It might help or it'll atleast help you to identify the cause of the problem..
DO THIS FIRST - Perform a hard reset
If hard reset doesnt work then try the steps from this link:
Symptom: LEDs glow, fan noise is heard, but display is black or blank
    Note:
If you have HP Support Assistant installed on the computer(The Blue Question Mark) then open it ==> Complete all pending Updates & Tuneups==> Restart and Check. It may solve your problem

  • Black screen with caps lock blinking

I was using my laptop and it was turned on and after some other work I wanted to use my laptop, the screen was black and caps lock was blinkingI turned it off manualy and it was again doing this. Caps Lock blinks 2 times after a pause of 4 seconds continously.
I tried reset and other things but its not showing anything.

    Hi Nayj424,
Thank you for visiting the HP Support Forums and Welcome. I have read your thread on your Compaq Presario CQ62-102TX Notebook and getting a blank or black screen on startup. Try performing a hard reset. When performing a hard reset please note remove any and all USB devices, and remove memory cards from the card reader slot. Disconnect all non-essential devices. If that does not help try to turn on the computer you start to press F11 repeatedly till the menu opens. You can do a system restore.
    Hope this is helpful.

  • Laptop on but only black screen nand loud beeping

    Widescreen compac presario f500

    Hello moscoe123,
Thanks for posting on the HP Forums!
I understand the computer will not start properly and a black screen remains. I apologize for the delayed response, but I will do my best to assist you! To troubleshoot the issue, please try the steps in this HP document: Troubleshooting Black Screen Displays with No Error Messages During Startup or Boot
The document lists useful steps starting with resetting the product. More specific steps are explained depending on your issue.
In regards to the beeps, there could be a few different causes. Since a beep/sound pattern wasn't mentioned, I'll just provide all this information for you to review, and you can try the suggested troubleshooting:
Computer Does Not Start and the LEDs Blink or the Computer Beeps
    BIOS Beep Codes
I believe this troubleshooting will resolve the issue. If not, I would contact HP phone support for further assistance. You can utilize this website to learn how to contact HP appropriately, based on your region: Contact HP Worldwide

  • CQ61 black screen repair and upgrade

    Hi,
I have a Presario laptop CQ61-214TU.  Upgraded to Windows 7 from Vista.
On pushing the power button i get a black screen and fans and power leds.  No POST or BIOS.  The Caps lock LED blinks very slowly 3 times and then the unit resets.  When it comes back it is the same the fan on, black screen except the CAPS lock led will blink very slowly and continuously.
I tried disconnecting the battery and AC and holding power button down and most other tips (removing hardware etc) on the internet and service pages.  (except the overheating ones).
I assume the motherboard or processor are faulty.
    The mobo is 578053-001.
    The processor is AM80577T4300.
As i have these out i thought i would upgrade one or both.   What is the fasted combination of the two that i can put into the CQ61-214TU.
    Thanks
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

    Here is the Manual:
    Manual
The motherboard you list is not listed in the manual nor is the processor although official HP specs also show you have the T4300 Pentium Dual Core processor and that motherboard checks out as a CQ61 Intel motherboard. The fastest compatible processor is listed as a P8700 at 2.53 ghz.
Here is a replacement for your board:
    http://www.ebay.com/itm/HP-Compaq-CQ61-G61-intel-Motherboard-578053-001-Test-OK-/251048516886
    And here is a P8700:
    http://www.ebay.com/itm/Intel-Core-2-Duo-Mobile-Processor-P8700-2-53GHz-1066MHz-3M-CPU-OEM-P8700-OEM...
Your laptop has the nVidia discrete graphics and is as good as it gets in that series of laptops, which is not a high end machine. So if you get the P8700 and a duplicate of your board you will have the max hardware you can get. I question putting nearly $200 into it, but that is your call.
