Black Screen w/ no Reset or Power Down Options

I continue to get a black screen on my iPhone 3G 16GB. I will have it sitting on my desk, only to witness the screen go black and will not allow me to unlock or ever reboot. It will simply stay in a black screen for about 20 minutes before kicking on the Apple and booting up on it's own time.
Here is what I have;
Full Charge
Full Reception
Complete Factory Apps
No Drops
I took it to AT&T, only to have them scratch their heads and set up an appointment at the Genius Bar. (appt in 25 mins) The funny thing, after trying to reboot, unlock or at least get the screen on it, it was sitting on the counter and on its own decided it was time to boot.
Has anyone had this problem or know what may be causing this?
Please help.

Phantom is right, I wasn't able to do anything. No Power and Home button pressing is recognized and if it is, it certainly isn't showing it.
The problem is almost as though the proximity sensor thinks you are close to it or on a call. It's quite odd.
I went to the Genius Bar and only got a 'bring it in when it's happening'. Which is to be expected.
Popping out the SIM tricked it? That's a good thing to know, though I hate feeling I have to do that. I might try the system restore to try and get the iTunes installed version of 2.0
Anyone else out there feeling my pain?

What causes the iPhone 4S to shut down to a black screen when it has full power? I have cleared the open icons and it works for one day then shuts down again.

Software hiccup, glitch or maybe faulty battery. Restore iPhone with iTunes on computer. See if this helps. If still problem that you think is serious enough to fix, all iPhone 4S have full Warranty. Make Genius Reservation and take iPhone to Apple for resolution.

Hmm. The problem still may be the RAM - Apple buys the RAM it puts in its machines from third-party vendors (usually Hynix) so it could be a RAM problem.
There are a couple of things that you can do yourself before taking your machine into an Apple Store or an AASP... download and run an application named Rember that will run a RAM test for you - let it run for a couple of hours or even overnight. If it turns out that your RAM is faulty, Rember will let you know. If it is faulty, then you have a couple of options - replace the RAM yourself or (particularly if you're under warranty still) take the machine to an Apple Store or AASP and have them replace the RAM.
If Rember finds no fault with the RAM, then you'll need to take it into an Apple Store/AASP and get a free diagnosis on the machine. Three beeps do usually indicate faulty RAM, but if it tests good with Rember you likely have another problem - it could be something as simple as the RAM, somehow, not seated correctly or signs of another hardware problem.
Run Rember first... call back with results.
    Good luck,
    Clinton

  • IPad 2 has a black screen which lights up to a grey black screen when I press the power or home button

iPad 2 has a black screen which lights up to a grey black screen when I press the power or home button but I dont see the apple logo. The battery is fully charged and when I plug it in to my computer, I can use iTunes to do everythng except backup the iPad since its passcode locked. Please help me resolve this problem. I don't have apple care

Yup! I've been there! You just have to double-tap the screen with three fingers and the zoom should go back. You have to turn off the feature in Settings>Accessibility>Zoom>and turn the switch off so this won't happen again when you double-triple tap.

  • HT201412 My iPhone 5 keeps going black and then pops up the power down screen.  What is wrong?

My iPhone keeps going to a black screen while I'm using it and then the power down screen pops up.  I updated the phone last night, but still having the same issue.   What can be the problem and how do I fix it?

Try doing a reset on your iPhone,
Reset your iPhone by pressing the 'Sleep' and 'Home' button at the same time for about 15 seconds or so. Your iPhone will then go through a reset / reboot procedure and will be ready for use within about a minute.
Don't worry about doing this as you will not lose data or settings.
Good luck and do report back.

  • A black screen come out, pass the power button to should down. (Intel i7)

_*Every times*_ when I click to download a *Windows exe file (.exe)*, a *black screen* to tell me to pass the power button to *should down*.
_*Every times*_ when I using *Parallels Desktop 5 for Mac*, I'm at the Windows XP starting up, and has a *black screen* to tell me to pass the power button to *should down*.

I bring my MacBook Pro (Intel i7) to the Apple store, they said is the Norton Internet Security 4.1.0 causing that happen.
The Apple store said uninstall the Norton Internet Security 4.1.0 and wait for the new version.

  • Black screen, powers up without hitting power button

After 6 months my iMac G5 20" rev. B working fine (other than failing to sleep automatically - will sleep display but hard drive does not power down) I'm having problems. The screen goes black and I cannot re-boot: I get power but the screen either stays black or, sometimes, freezes at gray. I have repeatedly tried resetting PRAM and PMS.
After 1.5 hours with an AppleCare rep, with no success starting the machine, I took it to my local Apple Store and (of course) they were unable to replicate the problem, although they did run Techtool on it all day and found no problems with either the hard drive or the memory. (I'm a little ticked that they didn't even bother to read the notes from the AppleCare rep - the attitude seemed to be that neither the AppleCare rep nor I knew what the heck we were talking about.)
So I took it back home and lo and behold it did start up normally. So (after backing up my files) I did a complete erase with only stock Apple programs reinstalled. It worked fine for a few hours but then the exact same thing happened: black screen, unable to start up although I get power (the screen stays frozen at black for about 60 seconds, and then the fans come on full speed which I understand is because there's no OS running to regulate them). Only now there's one new development: whenever I plug the iMac back in - whether by pulling the plug out of the back of the unit, or unplugging the cord at its far end - the computer automatically powers up without my pressing the power button. That happens even after I've used the power button to turn it off. That seems weird as well as potentially a safety issue.
I have it in for servicing again - this time, to the local reseller I bought it from, because they don't require an appointment and force you to wait around for hours merely watching them run Techtool - after another hour-long session with an AppleCare rep was unable to get it working and the rep said it was "definitely" a hardware problem. I'm just wondering if anyone else has had similar issues: especially the "powers on without pushing the power button" phenomenon.
I have 2G aftermarket RAM but don't think that's the problem because the same issues occur regardless which RAM stick is in the machine, even after resetting PRAM and PMS and doing the system erase and install. Also, the Apple Store did test the memory with Techtool and said it was fine.

After again experiencing problems I took the iMac back to the reseller where I bought it. They were able to replicate the defect and I received a new logic board. The invoiced cost (covered by warranty, luckily!) was $1,067 for the logic board and $85 for labor. The hard drive was erased but OSX Tiger was pre-installed when I picked up the computer. (BTW, Backup 3 is a very nice backup utility!) Now my iMac seems to be working perfectly, and the energy saver/sleep function works normally again.

  • My iPad wont turn on, its black screen then i press home power buttons together and white screen with black apple logo come out after 5 seconds black "lighten" screen comes out and its stuck just like that! Whats the problem?

    HI
this happened today suddenly while i was working on my iPad it kicked my out of the app that i was using then white screen with black apple logo came out, i thought it was an ordinary thing cause this happens all the time with me, but this time it refused to turn on! After the white screen with the black logo vanished i wad waiting for my lock screen but no, a black screen showed up just like that! And could tell it was black "lighten" screen i tried more than 10 times to do the home+power thing but it wont work, whats wrong with my ipad!

If the battery is completely drained it may take some time while on the charger before the iPad responds. Plug the iPad into the charger that came with it and plug that into a good wall outlet. Wait one hour. Then reset your device. Press and hold the Home and Sleep buttons simultaneously until the Apple logo appears. Let go of the buttons and let the device restart. If the iPad restarts let it continue to charge until the battery is 100%. If it doesn't start up make an appointment at an Apple Store to have your device examined by a technician. Or contact Apple Support. They will examine your iPad and explain your options.

  • I bought an ipad mini from John Lewis in February. On Saturday the ipad suddenly stopped working. I tried charging it but all it done was go to the start up apple page (black screen with white apple) then shut down and constantly repeat this process.

I took it back to John Lewis today to get fixed as its still under warranty. Because there was scratches on the back of it.... Which is hard to avoid with the slate back!!! I got told apple will probably not fix it as it looks as if I've done it! I couldn't believe it!! If I honestly dropped it that bad to have caused a technical fault inside I would of smashed the screen as the same time!! Absolutely ridiculous as I know it isn't through any fault of my own.

Try this  - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.)

  • Black screen until hard reset

I have had my iPhone 4 for about a month. worked great, have been installing all the updates but now i have to hard reset my phone every time i want to use it.
I have tried restoring a backup, resetting to factory settings etc.
I can see by the forums and many many other places on the internet that this seems to be a common serious issue with the IP4 and other iphones / ipods. too by the looks of it. After being on for a short while the screen goes black (as it would if not used for a few minutes) then clicking the home key or the power button does absolutely nothing. i then have to hard reset the phone by holding both buttons for 10 seconds. im not sure if this problem was caused by one of the updates but the phone is in perfect condition, only a month old. never dropped never got wet etc.
i took the phone into an apple shop and they denied hearing it was a problem and suggested i restored the phone (which i have done)
does anyone else have any other suggestions? I have enjoyed the iphone 4 as it has been the only one good enough to consider getting one but with all these problems i think ill go back to WM or Android becuase at least they dont turn into a brick every few minutes.
please help, or at least confirm this is not just an isssue with my handset
    N

Thanks for your comments. I just wanted to update again.
I did a direct firmware update on the phone (restoring it while its in recovery mode) and did not restore a backup.
this sorted the phone for a few days (and i lost all the data from my apps)
just checked my phone and its now doing the same thing. have to hard reset it to get it usable again.
looks like im going to be phoneless for a while until i get it replaced
dont know what is causing this, i have very few apps on the phone that were the same as before when i last had the issue. very frustrating!
