Black Screen when coming out of Deep Sleep

My screen just goes black after I bring my MacBook out of sleep mode. It only happens when my lid has been shut for an extended period of time (more than 30 min.). When I open the lid, my computer wakes up, prompts me for my password and everything seems normal. That is until I press enter after typing my password. Instead of bringing up my desktop, the screen goes black. I can still see the cursor but everything else is black and I can't interact with it at all. I am then forced to hold down the power button and restart. What is going on?

Same here.
We've had the MacBook for a week. Today, while closing garageband, I was told to shut down the computer. I did. Upon restarting I was told the computer had to shut down. It did. When I opened the display and turn on the computer, the screen was black. After trying to shut down and restart the computer a few times, and a few more times about three hours later, the same thing: a black screen.
We tried to call the Apple phone line but waited on hold for about half an hour. I guess all that's left to do is find an authorized guy in town and see what he/she thinks. What else is there to do?

  • Battery - Does the iPod run off the battery when coming out of 'deep sleep'

    Hi,
I was listening to my ipod yesterday and it ran completely out of battery. No worries - I thought I would just charge it up. I am travelling right now and the only way of charging it is by docking it in some speakers. I did so and it started up as normal, showing the apple logo. Then the screen went brighter, as normal, then it just cuts out. I thought maybe its just the battery, so I left it for a couple of hours and tried again - same thing happened.
When it is coming out of the 'deep sleep' is it running of the power of the battery - even when it is on charge? It appears like it needs to turn itself on - and THEN charge. If this is correct it is a pretty poor design fault. Can any one help me with this?
Could it be that its not getting enough power through the speakers?
    Thanks,
    Phil

  • Blue Screen when coming out of sleep mode

I had been having problems with my powerbook (15") and my associated 23" Cinema Display. Sometimes when I open up the powerbook one or both of the displays go to the dreaded "blue screen". I have to reboot to get back to normal.
This was a minor niggle but recently, after the purchase of a La Clie 250 Gb external hard disk I'm having a similar blue screen problem but this time it is more serious: every time I wake the computer from sleep the 23" display shows the desktop for about a second and then goes to "blue screen". Opening up the powerbook sometimes makes both screens go black or both go blue! This happens every morning and every time I come back from work. I'm going from restarting the machine once a week to twice a day!
I have the following devices permanently attached to the mac: iSight, Harman Kardon Speakers, eyeTV 410 box
I've tried repairing the hard disk (from start-up DVD, it says there are no problems) but the issue still remains.
Is this a known issue with Apple or likely to be due to my specific hardware configuration?
    Any advice would be helpful

  • Wifi login screen when coming out of sleep

    Hi there,
I seem to have an issue with wifi that has started recently after upgrading to 7.0.2 and I'm wondering if anyone else is getting the same thing.
When my iPhone 5 has been asleep for a while, the login screen below sometimes appears as soon as I unlock the phone. It doesn't ask me for a password at all, but simply says "success" in the top left.
I thought it may have been a virus or malware because the name of the site above my wifi SSID changes every time. In this case it is appleiphonecell.com, last time it was today.us.
The wifi does not seem to be affected at all (at least I don't think so).  I had this issue with an iPhone 4S last year and Apple ended up swapping out the phone for me but the problem still persisted until an incremental iOS 6 update came thru.
Thoughts/suggestions/solutions anyone? I have clicked on "forget this network" in the wifi settings and re-entered the password and rejoined my home wifi but it still persists. It also does it at other wifi locations as well, such as other family and friends (not public sites).
    Thanks in advance.
    Richard

I found this in the support: https://discussions.apple.com/message/23156453#23156453
I tried the fix but it still doesn't work properly on my iPad. It can connect on the internet on some of the apps but Safari, App Store, etc. doesn't work.

  • Why does my MAC sometimes crash when coming out of sleep mode?

My mac freezea sometimes when coming out of sleep mode, and occasionally the screen will go black. At other times I will be using the MAC and it will just freeze. The only way to get out of it is to kill power and reboot. It seems to be happening more frequently.
It was suggested that I fix permissions and start in sleep mode. This has helped in the past, and I am going to do it again now. I also recently upgraded to 10.6.8, and after that the crashes were fewer, but now they are increasing again.
I am including a log of the recent crash a few minutes ago.

Okay thanks, but I am a newbie who is not a very tech kind of a person. The only periphals I have are a kodak camera dock, a Canon 310 copier/fax/scanner and a pair of altec speakers. How do I determine  if they all have drivers for my MAC? They all seem to work okay, if that is a sign, though the Kodak camera Dock is a bit slow. How also do I determine if they are Apple energy compatible? With each of these peripherals, do I simply disconnect them from my MAC one at a time to see if there improvement?

  • E9220y hangs when coming out of sleep mode

My new HP Elite e9220y hangs when coming out of sleep mode-  When I 'touch a key' or move mouse, power switch on computer turns from yellow to blue, but monitor remains black.  Have to force off, and restart.  Adjusted power management to 'never' sleep but I was hoping for a more elegant solution.

Southmike, I'm glad I could help you out.  When I tried using the settings you stated, it didn't help me resume from standby.  However, I did finally get standby to work by first resetting the BIOS to default, and then setting the Power Management to:
    ACPI Standby: S3
Call VGA BIOS (no idea what this is): Enable
    USB Wakeup: Enable
    Power Management/APM: Disable
And, I also disabled a few other things I dont use like onboard Audio and RAID and voila, now WinXP can go into standby and resume from it piece of cake.

I use the pictures screen saver.
Anyone else have this problem since the last update??

I was so spoiled from not having to do anything with my iMac but enjoy it that it never occurred to me a little maintenance would be required.
Still compared to the Windows PC's I have around that I have to try and maintain once a day I think the Mac is a killer machine....
You should attend to your iMac. Even the best machines need periodic attention.
Like an iceberg, most of Leopard is "under the ocean" or as we say, "under the hood." There is an extremely powerful BSD OS down there and it is really that, not Leopard per se, that need an occasional "tweak."
Actually there are automatic routines that do much of the hidden maintenance but permissions repair is not one of them.
Again, you do not need to run permissions repair every day. Not even every month, but it's best to do it anytime you install new software - before and after installing the software.
Some, but not all of the issues you see here are the result of not maintaining the computer.

  • HT1937 I have installed an app : Birdfield guide in my iPhone 4. But the app is not working after installation. It shows black screen when opened

I have installed an app : Birdfield guide in my iPhone 4. But the app is not working after installation. It shows black screen when opened. I need suggestions to make it work or the reasons for not working.

Yes TeeKnows, try deleting it and download it again. After finished installation if still shows black screen delete it out off 'running apps' by double tapping the home button and swipe it off. If still shows black screen then try fully turning off your iPad (holding the sleep button) and turn back on again.
    I hope I helped
    thanks

  • Yoga 2 Pro - Black screen when on tablet mode

    Hi,
2 weeks Yoya 2 pro out of the box, and get a black screen when reaching the tablet mode (back of the lid touching the back of the laptop base).
I try hanged the setting under power management, with no success. When reaching the tablet mode, I get the same result as closing the lid in laptop mode.
I connect my Yoga 2 to a TV through the HDMI and can see the screen and interact with the black screen (not easy to touch the right spot).
My bios is updated and I have Windows 8.1.
    Any suggestion???

I found the answer to my problem at

Now that I found that post I do recall the instructions telling me to turn it off manually when I updated the bios earlier this year. However, the current instructions do not mention it at all, perhaps they should be updated?

    EDIT: RESOLVED
For anyone else who finds their way here like I did, this link did it for me: https://forums.geforce.com/default/topic/527599/windows-8-issues-solved-please-r ead-if-you-39-re-having-black-screen-and-or-flickering-/
Specifically, the posts by Dunsany and valkyr did the trick.  I booted in safe mode, uninstalled and deleted the Nvidia driver, disabled automatic driver installation, and restarted normally.  I then manually downloaded and installed the previous Nvidia driver for my graphics card (which at the time of this writing was 335.23, rather than the latest which was 337.88), and everything is now bueno!
Two hiccoughs along the way: First, when I tried to uninstall the Nvidia driver the first time, when I restarted I got the login screen (which was a good sign), but it quickly went black again.  I powered down, restarted in safe mode again, and repeated the uninstallation process, and it worked the second time.  Second, when I started the manual install of the 335.23 driver, the computer played a sound similar to the one for disconnecting a USB device, and the screen went black.  I'd seen a lot about trying to increase the brightness (though it hadn't worked up to this point; but if you haven't tried it yet, might as well); I tried it, and it worked! So far I'm back up and running. [/fingers crossed]
    Hope this helps someone else!

  • Black screen when opening in .pdf

I'm having problems with opening the C5-project in .pdf. Some people get a black screen when opening the .pdf file (version 9 or higher), most of the time it goes well, but 1 out of 10 times it doesn't work. I have know idea what could be the cause of the black screen (use of laptop?).
Now it is impossible to send this project to our stakeholders, because I don't know whether it works or not.
Does anyone recognize this and knows why this happens, and how to solve this?

There was a recent patch released by Adobe for Captivate 5 that addressed a similar black screen issue in Captivate SWFs.
You can get the patch here: http://www.adobe.com/support/captivate/downloads.html
It may turn out to fix your issue as well.
