Black Screen when trying to install Windows 7 via Bootcamp

Have seen many similar questions with not one solid answer.  I have a brand new 17" MacBook Pro with the regular 750 gig grive and a 200 something gig ssd primary drive. Running the latest version of OS X of course.
Updated all of my software and then opened up Bootcamp and partitioed 40 gigs on the SSD drive for Windows 7. Stuck in the disc when it asked me to and clicked continue. It rebooted then immediately went to a black screen and tahts where it stays. I ahve tried both the 64bit and 32bit discs and it does the same no matter which one I use.
How do I get windows 7 to install properly?
Just my luck it says Apple doesnt offer phone support for installing Windows via Bootcamp.

Try using Boot Camp Assistant to remove the Windows volume, then redo it.
Waste of time and don't need to - there are Apple tech support articles
http://www.apple.com/support/bootcamp
There is/was one directed at the iMac w/ black screen.
Using an electronic version, an ISO, bought through school, burned wtih Apple Disk Utility - that has to be burned at slowest reduced burn speed 2X to work - won 't boot, installs but fails during or after, various issues. But you seem to have both, therefore retail version of Windows 7 Home Premium.
Is OS X also on the SSD? 40GB is actually a tight fit for Windows 7 64-bit. I could tell you why but just trust me when you add up page, hibernation, the SP1 update temp space requirment all on top of the 20GB for Windows itself. And then any data, applications, cache files.
I'd disconnect the 750GB drive.
There were updates last week.

"Solid answers" - really?
A. there is a forum for Boot Camp
Boot Camp
Another for MacBook Pro
MacBook Pro
http://www.apple.com/support/macbookpro
And this one? is for workstations (tower) Mac Pro.
I know some tech articles say Apple only supports installing or using BCA and any issue with Windows is not under their support, though even there the Apple Boot Camp driver support have various issues and more trouble than I would expect or accept to claim "Windows on Mac" can be called supported - it isn't as seamless and of course no hand-holding.
There is one step, feature added to 10.6.6 to "download" and save drivers to CD or flash memory - that has been broken and DOA (MacBook Air does need USB DVD external driver and that works) but having a full Boot Camp 3.2 on a memory stick and not having to go through 3.0 and 3.1 to get to the current supported version of 3.2? that doesn't work at all. - Which has led to 100x posts over "what do I do?" with it in the broken state it is in.
This is an Apple SSD, or 3rd party? The 2011 MacBook Pro has had trouble as it should suppport SATA3 and that was what one of the firmware updates addressed.  Performance and lack or presence of TRIM in OS X is another area of concern.

I'm trying to install Windows 8 via Boot Camp, but the download from Microsoft is a .exe file so when I go to create the bootable USB drive, it fails. I've read some of the other threads about this topic, but I want to know if there is any way to convert to .iso without having to find someone's Windows computer to borrow. Can anyone help?

No. You would require a PC in order to run the executable which is an installer, not a disc image or an archive.

  • Trying to install Windows via Bootcamp (dual SSD, optibay)

I have an MBP 17" late 2011. I am running Lion 10.7.4. and I recently bought two Samsung 830 Series SSD drives to put into the MBP. I want to put one in the The second one I want to go into the optibay, so I bought a drive caddy. I am not able to install Bootcamp because I don't have an optical drive. I've tried a few software mods, such as adding 'mbasd=1' and here (www.codez4mac.com/forum/viewtopic.php?uid=225402&f=212&t=61921&start=0) to create a windows 7 USB  install disk on Lion, and here (sudo pico /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/com.apple.Boot.plist) to try and get the external superdrive to work and others I've seen on various communities, but nothing seems to work. I can't use the Parallels route because my version of Windows is an Upgrade version.
A few things you should know: (1) I was able to get the superdrive working on my MBP using the software mod above, and I was excited to finally get Wondows installed on the second SSD. However, when Bootcamp goes to install it, it hangs at a black screen with "_" blinking infinitely. I feel like I'm close to finding a solution, but so far no luck. I'm close to just packing up the SSDs and returning them, even though I really like the performance I see.
I am not a beginner, but I am not an advanced programmer, so if you have ideas or fixes, please send them my way.
Here is the set up I want to accomplish:
    1) Set up Bootcamp partition on second SSD. Drive #1 will be Lion, drive #2 will be a file store with Bootcamp partition also.
    2) If using Bootcamp I can use my upgrade version of Windows. I can do this the traditional way of installing the older version, then the upgrade of Wondows, or simply install the upgrade version clean, then immediately reinstall it as an upgrade and the activation is clean. Before I get any grief on that, there are two things: (a) I've installed Windows several times on other machines this way and it is best because it is a clean install and (b) this was recommended to me by a MS technician when I had to call in a while back.
    3) If/Once Windows is installed on MBP's second SSD (optibay), I will be using an external USB superdrive or a USB DVD/CD drive I own.
In trying to work all of this out over the past several days, there are a few observations I have:
    A) I am baffled that the USB Superdrive won't work on anything except Mini and Air (even though I got it to work). I don't want to hear the "reasons" Apple does this, becuase I should be able to boot from ANY USB drive, like any other computer. What happens if/when my MBP's superdrive gives it up and no longer works? Drop another $2500+ on another computer?
    Sorry for the rant.
    Frustrated.

Middle of night but fwiw as long as you don't have two drives both using GUID you can do this. But you can't during install have OS X on A and Windows on B. Get Windows installed you will have to wipe out the one with Lion or disconnect it or something. Then reconnect or restore w/ Carbon Copy Cloner.
Format the one with Lion to MBR
BCA is not needed when you are not splitting a drive between both Windows DVD can be used to format the entire SSD.
Are you familiar with Carbon Copy cloner?

  • I can not use my mouse or keyboard when I am trying to install windows via boot camp

    Please can you help!
I can not use my mouse or keyboard when I am trying to install windows via boot camp

Starting a couple of days ago my mouse and keyboard stopped working suddenly.
How are they connected?   In my case they are wireless and their receiver is plugged into my USB hub.  After an update I found the OS inexplicably not recognizing my USB hub and hence any devices which were plugged into it.  My fix was to
plug the receiver into a different USB port (so I could use the mouse and keyboard; otherwise I would have had to use the OSK via Touch or pen.)  Once I had normal access into my machine again I used Device Manager to remove all USB controller and
hubs (including hidden ones) and I then shut down, disconnected all USB devices and powered back up, this time using only Touch to get going.  Once the OS had settled down I started plugging stuff back in the way that I wanted it to be recognized.
If I didn't have Touch I would have had to have left the wireless receiver plugged in both places which I assume would be OK.  I have no idea why updates have such a catastrophic effect for USB devices.

  • Trying to install Windows with Bootcamp

Hello. First, I do know this has been a recurrent trouble for a lot of Mac user who have tried to install Windows using Bootcamp. Believe me, I've looked it up both here in the Apple Communities and in saint Google. My situation is, however, that I have replaced my optical drive with a SSD, and now my optical drive works externally, via USB. Everytime I try to install Windows in a dedicated partition in the SSD, it just stays forever in a blank screen with blinking cursor.
Apple's troubleshot won't work for me, and I'm beginning to think that the issue has more to do with the optical drive itself. I tried:
To install Windows on the HDD instead of SSD.
To unplug every USB (even mouse), except for the optical drive with Windows 7.
To install it via USB stick (creating a bootable .iso with Disk Utility). In this case the usb stick does not even appear when holding option key.
To try another Windows 7 version (32/64 bits).
I have even read it might be because of a bad installation of the RAM memory... this makes no sense?!
If anyone has encountered this same situation, I'd appreciate some help. Hope I can get this done, because Steam's Age Of Empires won't ever work in OS X :S
Thank you all for reading and helping!
    MacBook Pro
    13-inch, Early 2011
    2,3 GHz Intel Core i5
    8 GB 1333 MHz DDR3
    OS X 10.9.5

If your Mac was originally configured with a built-in Optical drive, and it was later replaced, Bootcamp knows your original configuration and will not work properly in the modified configuration, because it uses your Mac's model string (found in About This Mac -> More Info -> System Report -> Hardware) for example, MacbookPro 11,3. The only supported method to install Windows is to restore the original HW configuration and install it and then move hardware around.

The bootcamp utility has formatted my USB key
My Macbook drive was partitionned by bootcamp tool
But now what should I do ?
When I just start the mac it says
No Bootable device -- insert boot disk and press key
If I keep option pressed while the computer starts
    I can see three volumes
The Maverick volume (When I select it it launches maverick)
The recovery volume that is an apple tool for reinstalling a fresh maverick
    My USB volume called windows
When I select my windows volume it says no bootable device -- insert boot disk
    What can I do ?
    Thanks

    Lilly,
since you just got your new MacBook Pro, at this point I’d recommend making an appointment at an Apple store to show them what’s happening when you run Boot Camp Assistant. Be sure to take your Windows 7 disc and your USB SuperDrive with you, so you can show them how it currently behaves. Please include in your reply whether they were able to resolve the problem, and if so, how they did it, so that future readers of this discussion can benefit from your experience.

  • Is installing Windows via bootcamp bad for my hardrive? (It crashed)

    Hello,
I purchased my new Macbook Pro 13" in January of this year, and my hardrive recently completely crashed. I was lucky enough to have Apple pay for a new hd, but I really want to know what caused it. The only thing I can think of that makes any sort of sense is that installing Windows via bootcamp screwed up the hardrive somehow and caused it to fail from getting worked too much from always restarting into Windows / having too much of my hd dedicated to Windows (150 gb of my 750gb SATA hd). I dont know if any of this makes sense, or if I just got really unlucky and got a bad hd from the factory. I have never physically damaged my macbook (like dropping it or whatever) and have never stored it in extremely hot or cold temperatures. The copy of Windows I installed was legit and everything....so I am scared to reinstall windows in fear that my hd will fail again
So my question is this...... is there any way that the bootcamp partition could have cause my hd to fail? Is it safe to go ahead and install windows again?
    Thank you for you time.

I have never heard of bootcamp causing hard drive failure. I think it is more likely that you were unlucky and ended up with a bad drive. Something like 1 in 100,000 fail, that 1 has to land on someone. If you are worried about bootcamping again I would recommend Parallels or VMWare Fusion. They are both excellent virtualization applications and offer a soft cap on the windows partition size because it is a file kept inside of OSX instead of a physical partition. I have been running Parallels for 6 months with no problems.
    Best,
    Stuart-

  • Black Screen when trying to view videos that use Flash Player

    Hi all,
Sometimes when I'm trying to view videos on Youtube or BBC iPlayer, which use Flash Player, I'll click play and after around 2-3seconds of the video playing, my screen will go black/dark blue and the audio will stop. I'm then forced to hard reset my computer as no keyboard shortcuts work. This is starting to annoy me. Any help would be appreciated.
I have the latest Catalyst, 12.1, the latest Chipset and BIOS. I have even tried re-installing Windows to no avail. I have also tried uninstalling Adobe Flash Player using your official uninstaller and then re-installing and yet I still get this problem.
    System Specs;
    AMD-FX 4100 Quad Core Processor @ 3.6GHz
    8GB Corsair 1333MHz RAM
    320GB Samsung SpinPoint HDD
    Powercolour Radeon HD 6870 1GB
    ASUS M5A97 PRO Motherboard
    OCZ Fatal1ty 750W PSU

Your video card should be fine for GPU acceleration, but to rule this out can you try disabling hardware acceleration to see if that helps?
How do I disable or enable hardware acceleration?
If this works, please open up a new bug report so we can take a further look.  Here's a page that describes what we'll need.
How do I troubleshoot and report problems with Flash Player Video?
    Thanks,
    Chris

  • I get an error message when trying to install windows 7 on my macbook pro. The message says "windows has encountered a problem communicating with a device connected to your computer. I don't have anything connected to my computer. How do I fix this?

I'm trying to install windows 7 on my macbook pro. I went through the process of bootcamp telling it to install windows 7. Once the windows boot manager started an error message came up. The error message says " windows has encountered a problem communicating with a device connected to your computer. I don't have a usb connected to my computer. I  am using windows 7 professional install disc. I  can't figure out what i am doing wrong. The same message keeps coming up over and over. Am I doing something wrong or is it something else?

Well, shucks, i just spent almost 30 minutes trying to find your model user guide to explain it better, I guess they never got around to making it.....
I would just borrow another Windows disk and try installing it again and if it does it again then you might take it to an Apple Store and see if one of the "Genius' " can figure it out.
Make sure your internet is enabled and click on your blank desktop and at the top of your screen is a Help menu option, enter PRAM and it should give you a list of things relating to Pram. It may take a few seconds to list anything as it has to connect to Apples severs first. It should list the things you may have to fill back in when your done.
"P-ram" stores some common information that is used in the background, your date, time, startup disk, etc, that you don't have to re-fill when you restart, it's a little different for each computer.

Uninstall current driver in safemode using >>Driver Fusion<<. After reboot install current MSI driver: http://download.msi.com/dvr_exe/nvidia_33165_v7864_vga.zip
Did it twice and it still gives me a black screen when going into a full screen on games.
