Black screen while playing video in itunes

I am currently running itunes 11.1.2.32 on a windows 8.1 (64 bit) pc. I had to reinstall itunes when switching from 8.1 preview to 8.1 due to download issues. I now have a black screen when playing videos in itunes. Audio still works. Suggestions?

I've had the same problem. Tried switching from the built in Intel video to an nVidia graphics card, reinstalled cursed a lot.
Finally got it working the hard ware. Built a virtual XP machine (like the SP support system in Windows 7). Installed itunes in the virtual machine and can now watch my movies and tv shows. Both itunes and Windows 8.1 seem to be "not ready for prime time". I wish MS wouldn't have tried to make a computer look like a cell phone/pad.

Try to download the application VLC.
It is a media player that should be able to play any audio or video file you may have. If your videos play flawlessly using that application, then the issue is with iTunes and Quicktime, as they are both essentially similar software types when it comes to playing media.
In that case you may need to install a plug-in file called Perian, in order for the videos to play correctly within iTunes or at least Quicktime...

  • Sound delay while playing video in iTunes.

    Dear community,
When playing video in iTunes the sound is increasingly delaying and after approximately 10 seconds it becomes almost impossible to watch the video. When you move to the other part of the video, the sound is back to normal for a short time and then becomes delayed again.
When video is playing, it is possible to hear that sound is not smooth, but has very minor breaks. The video is downloaded to the computer. I opened this video with Windows Media Player and QuickTime and it works good, but, unfortunately, it does not work correctly while playing in iTunes player.
I experience this problem on Windows 7 32-bit.
    Please, help with this problem.
    Sincerely,
    Roma

    Solved.
    Found this great solution:
    Quote
This is what worked for me for Windows 7 — Go to Control Panel > Hardware and Sound > Sound > Manage Audio Devices > >>> Right click on your Speakers and Headphones and go to Properties > Advanced
Now… bring the quality of your sound down – I changed mine from 24 bit, 192000 Hz (Studio Quality) TO 24 bit, 44100 Hz (Studio Quality) — it works like a charm for me now! Hope this helps.

And another one, but not tested:

I am one of many that had the synch problem. I say HAD because I finally found a fix or possibly an incorrect setting in BIOS. I noticed one of the sound settings in Bios was set to HD.
I had the option to change to AC97. saved the Bios and rebooted……hooray problem solved. I also noticed that unlocking cores made the symptom even worse. All is running very well with all cores unlocked and 24bit 192000Hz set on the sound card.
for information I have a ASUS M4N68T-M V2 motherboard and
    Xonar DS sound card
    Hope this helps.

  • Lock screen while playing videos and music?

iPhone 4 iOS 7.1.2 (up to date), no SiM card installed.
This is an old iPhone I use to play videos and music for my daughter (2 years).  She watches the video, but tends to too=uch the screen because that's what kids do.  This pauses the video, or sends the phone to the home screen.  Is there a way to lock out the screen while the video plays so that only the home button will pause the video?

    Hi Scott,
I think Guided Access with Ignore all screen touches is what you need.
    http://help.apple.com/iphone/7/#/iph7fad0d10
Turn on Guided Access. Go to Settings > General > Accessibility > Guided Access, where you can:
Turn Guided Access on or off
Set a passcode that controls the use of Guided Access and prevents someone from leaving a session
Set whether other accessibility shortcuts are available during a session
Start a Guided Access session. Open the app you want to run, then triple-click the Home button. Adjust settings for the session, then click Start.
Disable app controls and areas of the app screen:  Circle any part of the screen you want to disable. Use the handles to adjust the area.
Enable the Sleep/Wake or Volume buttons: Tap Options and turn on the buttons.
Ignore all screen touches:  Turn off Touch.
Keep iPhone from switching from portrait to landscape or from responding to any other motions: Turn off Motion.
End a Guided Access session. Triple-click the Home button, enter the Guided Access passcode, and tap End.
    Have fun,

  • Lock screen while playing video

    Hello,
I know there is no support at the moment, but would like to know if there will be a software upgrade to support this in future releases? I would like the apples products have the ability to lock the screen while still allowing videos to play either from youtube or stored videos. This will allow me to hand the iPad or iPhone to my kids and let them watch their shows without accidentally pressing buttons and getting out of the video then getting upset, because their video is gone.
    Thanks,
    Andrew

    No.

  • No sound while playing video in iTunes in Windows 8. Help?

I'm running Windows 8.1 and every time I go to watch video in iTunes, it'll have sound for a little bit (30 seconds, tops) and then it'll skip a little and the audio's gone. I'd like to get this fixed before my fiance gets back from his trip so we can watch the new Doctor Who 50th Anniversary special when he gets back. I'm currently running iTunes 11.1.3.8. Any work arounds or setting changes would be awesome.

It may be that your machine can't handle the bit rate and such that iTunes is set at. You may also need to check your sound cards settings. See if this page helps. iTunes and QuickTime audio problems
Although the graphics on the site are for Windows XP it still may be helpful.
If that does not help, I will be back later today (~4:30).
    Hope this helps!

  • Freezes while playing video in iTunes

I don't know if this is a hardware issue, or software, which I doubt because I did a clean install of Snow Leopard. But anyway, I have this issue when I am watching video podcasts or movies where it would freeze for a couple of seconds, and then would start playing again, but it doesn't startup from where it froze. It would jump a couple of minutes forward, so I have to rewind back to where it left off and it would play fine. Is anyone on here having this issue?

I have this same problem while watching Mad Men episodes purchased from iTunes (while connected to my HDTV using a mini DisplayPort to HDMI adapter). The video and audio will freeze with no cursor or keyboard input possible for ~15-30 seconds. When it unfreezes, it starts playing not where it froze but with a gap missing similar to the length it froze.

  • IMac crashes (black screen) while playing Diablo 3

    Hi,
I've bought my iMac 27" i5 quad 2.7GHz 8GB in January. It's been working fine, being used mostly for some gaming and desktop apps.
2 months ago I started playing Diablo 3, and started having problems after the first update. Basically, I can play for some time (ranging from 10 minutes to 1 hour) and after a while the computer screen just goes completely black, the last fragments of sound start to play in a loop (about .2 to .5 second) and the computer is completely unresponsive. The only course of action is to force it to shut down by pressing the power button for a few seconds. After that, it's not possible to restart the computer right away, I need to wait for a few minutes before it can start. It even happened once that it started to play the startup chime and stopped midway, shutting down all by itself.
A similar problem also happened once or twice, when the computer was simply sleeping and it became impossible to wake it up, I had to shut it down and start it up again.
I've explained the problem to Apple and even took my computer to the store for checkup. However, after they ran some tests they said everything was fine and didn't want to replace any component (it would have been the motherboard or the graphics card). All they could tell me was that I should reinstall the whole system (Lion, up-to-date).
I might do that. However, tonight I tried again to play while monitoring the various thermometers and fan speeds, played in windowed mode so I could see the curves, and set up the computer to take a screenshot every second (AFAIK the monitoring app I'm using doesn't keep logs) so I could replay everything. I got my usual crash after about half an hour. What the screenshots showed is that the various temperatures raised, which probably isn't a big surprise. However, they also show that about 3 minutes before the crash the CPU fan, which had been very stable so far, started to speed up very regularly. While it didn't reach any abnormal speed, it's still weird to see how it began so suddenly and so shortly before the crash.
As one can see from the values in the monitoring windows, the temperatures don't seem to me to be scandalous, but I may not be a good judge. Before I start reinstalling everything, I was wondering whether someone might have experienced a similar issue (couldn't find much about it on the web) or if perhaps these "symptoms" may be meaningful to someone?
    I'm grateful for any advice!
    Pagod

The fans may not be the cause of the problem but it's definitely related. Now I'm running the hardware monitor every time I play D3 and it always warns me that the CPU fans is spinning up shortly before the crash, which may then occur within seconds or at most 2-3 minutes when I stay in fullscreen. I can't remember experiencing a crash after I went back to windowed mode after the alarm, but I also haven't pushed it much. Also, the temperatures reported really don't look awful at all, nothing exceeds 80°C, there's no sudden surge.
Interestingly, the computer actually keeps running after the screen goes black (but D3 is definitely out), and only when I press cmd-alt-esc does the whole system go completely down (looping sound).
I've checked the logs and couldn't find anything really significant, then again I may not know what to look for. The only suspicious entries at more or less exactly the time of the crash (although I can't tell whether it's when D3 crashes, or the whole computer) are the following in kernel.log:
    12-07-14 2:57:48.000 PM kernel: ** Device in slot: SLOT--1 **
12-07-14 2:57:48.000 PM kernel: ** GPU Debug Info Start **
    12-07-14 2:57:48.000 PM kernel: 0x00006740
This is followed by 544 lines similar to the last one with various hex addresses over five seconds, although after line 436 only 0x00000000's are reported. The line just after that is at the time when I restart the computer and says
Jul 14 15:00:36 localhost kernel[0]: PMAP: PCID enabled
system.log doesn't report anything in this time frame, there's no crash report for D3 in CrashReporter... Is there anything else I could check?

  • Satellite L670: black screen while playing flash or avi from internet

    Hello,
I have a problem with my Radeon.
Each time, I play a movie (flash or avi) from Internet my computer block with a blackscreen, and I have to switch it off with the physical button.
    My computer is a L670 1L0 with Intel Core i3 CPU M380 @ 2,53 Ghz
I have a ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5470
    Windows 7 64bits (SP1)
    Thank you for your help

Dont think that this is an hardware related problem because other movies from HDD or DVD can be played properly..
    Suggestion from this page:
    http://support.google.com/youtube/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=1209379
If disabling of hardware accelerated playback did not help, try to update the graphic card driver.
You could also check if you could resolve this by uninstalling adobe flash player plugin and then reinstalling the most recent version of adobe flash.
By the way: can you stream videos from other pages like Hulu, Yahoo Video or similar?
Here you can find solution provided by Adobe:

and here very interesting thread from adobe forum:

  • Flash player show black screen on playing streaming video.

    Hello All,
I'm using Bitgravity live stream in flash AS3.0. The video stream work pecfectly in FP 9. I have recently migrated to Flash CS5. I have published my player in Flash player 10. It provide better rendering and high video quality, almost like HD. But there is some issue while playing video stream in FP 10. I''m using netstream. publish(). method. Some time the Flash player show totaly black screen and but audio still plays. If we press F5 on browser it may come or may not work fine.
Case1: Customer 1 using FP 10 turn off Hardware rendering and black out screen ploblem solved.
Case2: Customer 2 using FP 10 truned on Hardware rendering the Black out screen problem resolved.
I'm confused with the solution that i should provide to my customer, since it is very difficult to debug the error. For the time i have switched back to FP9 + CS4.
How can we determine the issue. ?
Does GPU capability is having some pipeline issue with decoding the incoming H.264 packets.with acc audio? Or the stream have some issue that flash is unable to recognize at first time?
    Thanks,
    Ajitpal

Sounds like you've got malware alright.
As far as image burning, I ONLY use Roxio Media Creator, or PowerISO to burn images to disk. Nero will do it, but I can't run it with Roxio (conflicts).
You need to do thorough virus scan and cleanup.

  • Green Screen when trying to play videos in iTunes.

Not sure how do describe my issue. But lately when playing videos though iTunes, they play fine for about 30 seconds and then the screen goes solid green ( http://tinyurl.com/loa5a ), but the sound continues. I've tried multiple videos from episodes of Lost that I've downloaded from the iTunes store to music videos, to video podcasts. None of them are immune to the dreaded green screen. Is this a known issue or something maybe unique to my system?

Anyone have any ideas or need more info, if so please let me know. This is very frustrating.

  • Can the Touch Screen on iPhone be Disabled while Playing Video?

My 16-month old son loves watching Sesame Street on my iPhone 3GS while we travel. Problem is, he keeps touching the screen and inadvertently stopping the video or exiting from the iPod application.
Is there a way to disable the touch screen while watching video so that the only way of re-activating is by pressing the home button? Thanks.

No, there is not. You can send feedback to Apple - http://apple.com/feedback
