Black shadow in the macbook air screen

I have a macbook air early 2015 model. I found that bottom part of the screen is darker than the rest of the screen. There is about 5mm thick dark patch along the bottom edge. It seems that the screen near the bottom edge  glows little less than the other portion of the screen. It is visible only when I read a pdf file or browse internet in the full screen mode.  It almost disappears when the brightness is the maximum. Is it usual? Please let me know If I need to carry it to the apple store.

Hi,
Try resetting PRAM. OS X Yosemite: Reset your computer’s PRAM
if that does not cure it, you may need to take it in to the Apple Store. Make a Genius appointment.

How about your warranty? If it is a new machine you may be able to have it replaced.

I don't know what service options are available in India but if this helps I do know that once you purchase your Apple product the warranty is valid anywhere in the world.

  • Switching to the cinema display by closing the macbook air

the nice feature of switching to the cinema display by closing the macbook air and reopening it to use the keyboard with a black (mb air-)screen -e.g.for shortcuts in CS5 or Cad -doesn't work any longer using OS X Lion which is quite annoying. Has anyone found a solution for this problem apart from the 'option with the magnet' ?
this keyboard shortcut puts both displays in hibernation mode
is there a keyboard shortcut which only puts the macbook (air) screen ( under Lion) to sleep ?
if not, this would be a helpful update for everyone using the mac with photoshop or autocad where  keyboard shortcuts are constantly needed and handling would be far easier with all windows & task bars on the cinema display only.
Alternatively, has anyone a clue how to put the task bar from the macbook screen to the cinema display ?

I dont know about the putting the screens to sleep, but as far as the task bar goes, when you have both screens running you can go in to display settings and you should see both screens, you can drag the task bar from the air screen to the cinema display.

MacBook Air connected to projector won't display the dvd in the superdrive, but it is playing on the MacBook Air screen.
When dvd is ejected, MB A screen appears on the big screen through the projector. What do I need to do to get the training dvd showing on the screen?

Power off the router. Unplug it from the wall. Wait a while.
Plug it back to the wall. Power the router on. Wait until all the lights are lit properly. It will take a while.
    Restart the computer.

New (3mo) macbook air screen goes black and sometimes won't come back on after I unplug it from the power cord.  Any ideas why it is doing this? Sometimes I have to hold power button for 10 seconds for it to shut off then back on. Sometimes holding the power button for a second is enough for it to come back on.

I took it to the Genius Bar, and they identified it as a hardware issue. Just got it back today. Parts replaced were:
620-5629 Display Module — Symptom: Distored/blurred/focus video issue
605-3284 Top Case with Keyboard — Symptom: specific key(s) do not work
So far so good. I'd suggest taking it in and not trying to work around it — it's a rare hardware issue (given the number of threads about it) and should be replaced.

  • HT4437 I have a Macbook Air, an iPad3, and Apple TV.  I want to be able to use the iPad3 for training through the Macbook Air which is connected to a projector.  Any ideas?

I would like to be able to show my iPad3 screen through the Macbook Air that is connected to a projector.  I attended an Apple Training presentation and the presenter was using this set up-how do I get it set up correctly?  I also recently purchase Apple TV because the presenter said that she was using this device with the Air and the iPad.

If you are trying to connect the iPad to the Macbook, then try this app: http://www.reflectionapp.com/ The iPad also supports connecting straight to the Apple TV, so you could try it that way too.
          Hope this helps!

  • What is the keyboard shortcut to sleep display on the Macbook Air?

On my Macbook Pro it's ctrl-shift-eject. There is no eject button on the Macbook Air so what is it?
Yes I know about Hot Corners. Yes I know you can turn the brightness right down. I want the keyboard shortcut.

Sorry for being a Johnny-Come-Lately to this thread, but I just found it.
I do not like using a Hot Corner (alone) because it is too easy to inadvertently sleep the screen by random movement of the the cursor. However, there is a solution....
You can add a "modifier key" (e.g., the "Command" key) to the hot corner sequence so that moving the cursor to the chosen hot corner does NOT sleep the screen unless you also push and hold the modifier key.
To add a modifier key, open "System Preferences", go to "Desktop & Screen Saver", choose the "Screen Saver" tab, and click on "Hot Corners…". Open the dropdown for the corner you prefer. Before clicking "Put Display to Sleep" hold down the Command key (or another modifier key*)  and then click "Put Display to Sleep".
Voilà! Now the display will sleep only if you hold down the Command key before moving the cursor to the chosen Hot Corner.
*I believe the only modifier keys available for this are Shift, Control, Option and Command -- you can use any one of them or combinations.

  • How to fix the constant noise in the left corner of the Macbook Air which is connected not with a fan?

How to fix the constant noise in the left corner of the Macbook Air which is connected not with a fan?

Unfortunately if there are various colours across the screen then you have broken the LCD Screen and it will need replacing. If the colours change when you press the area lightly then this is another symptom that you've broken the screen.
Sorry to give the bad news!

  • Replacing MacBook Air Screen

I think I killed my screen. There is now what looks like a 2 inch wide streak going down the screen starting at the top where the WiFi, bluetooth icons are located. Any idea how much it costs to replace a screen?

    Hi,
    Try googling the phrase...
    Macbook Air Screen replacement
You are looking at around the $400 ( US ) mark.

  • I am looking at mac computers, and cannot decide between the macbook air or the pro, can anyone help?

I am about to go into my senior year in high school and I need a new laptop. I like to be able to have a reliable laptop with fast speed and can get the job done for my porjects and presentations. I also like to play online games with my friends, and I wanrt to be able to know that I will not be stopped with a slow computer. Can anyone give me suggestions for the laptop I am looking for?

If you're doing nothing more than web browsing, email, some light photo processing, and your standard Microsoft Office Stuff, I'd get the MacBook Air 13" with 4GB RAM and the largest SSD drive you can afford.  It's light, and fast.
If you're going to edit movies and use Photoshop with lots of plug-ins, do substantial graphics, play 3D games, then get the fastest MacBook Pro with the largest screen, biggest HD and most RAM you can afford.
The thing is, the MacBook Pro is more like a desktop that's portable.  The MacBook Air is still a powerful computer (it's not just an iPad with keyboard like a lot of people claim), but you basically are stuck with what you got.  It really can't do a lot of heavy computer lifting.
    I'm a MacBook Pro guy.

Started about 12 months ago randomly, the screen will just turn bright colours & is unreadable, the only way to remove it is to shut down & restart from on/off button....

  • I Bought the MacBook Air...  and returned it, and returned it again, etc...

Thank you for everyones help here in helping make my decision on buying the MacBook Air. I decided to buy one. So the story goes I ended up buying and returning 3 different MacBook Air with the SSD because they all had the grey lines. Very frustrating to say the least. After I returned the last one I happened to be visiting Best Buy the same day. They had a MacBook Air HDD version on display. This particular one had no lines and looked very nice. As a side note, the lines are a deal breaker for anyone wondering. I use Word and Pages a lot, and the grey lines are an easy distraction against the white background.
I ended up looking at the serial number and display manufacturer information on the MacBook Air that was on display at BestBuy. The panel number was 00009C8F and the serial number indicated it had been built in week 53 of 2008. Fortunately the lock up cage for the MacBook Air was right beneath the table the computer was displayed on. They had a brand new one in stock with the same build week, but it was a HDD version. I had already made my mind up that I was buying the MacBook Air with SSD, but after the experience at the Apple Store (buying and returning 3 different ones) I was going to try the on-line store. I thought what the heck do I have to lose. I bought it! I got it home powered it on, and the screen had no grey lines! YAHOO! In addition, after using the HDD version for a couple hours I think I saved myself $700. I could not tell the difference in speed (except in cold boot times, marginally) between the SSD and the HDD.
In conclusion, I wonder if the SSD has something to do with the grey lines. It is more of a conspiracy theory at this point, but I got my MBA without grey lines and I am happy! Thanks for everyones help in provide buying information.

    Hi Soft Reset,
I do agree with you that it is not hardware related to the hard drive type. I just could not believe that I could not find an SSD without problems. Like I stated though, I was pleasenty surprised by the performance of the HDD version. In the end I think I saved $700, but to reiterate, I am just using office, internet, and e-mail. Therefore the SSD is really not a neccessity. If they come out with a REV C and a bump in SSD sizes, I will probably sucomb to upgrading. Thanks again!
