Black spot on screen mac book air
Black spot on screen. I stepped on the edge of it. It looks ink puddle

I stepped on the edge of it.
Yes, when it looks like blue and purple ink spot/spill that means you destroyed the LCD display,
it cannot be repaired, the monitor assy. must be replaced.
Contact Apple for appt. to replace your monitor.

i was trying to download windows 7 on mac book air 10.8.2.seems like i didnt copy my windos disk on the usb properly at the begining,so after the boot camp steps the screen is black and telle me to put the write disk.
eventually i made a coorect usb windows 7 and put it back to continue as it was saying so,but there is no change and the screen still is dark and says no bootable disk ,insert.
how to solve the problem?Right now I have 6 different systems installed. Windows XP, 7, and 8 plus Linux Mint, Commodore, and OS X Snow Leopard (for old times sake), all running on Mountain Lion.
I recommend reading the user manual as it greatly helps getting through the steps, however an intuitive person should pick it up fairly easily.
Thanks to BobTheFisherman for the link.
There are other ways to get Windows on a Mac but I'm a big fan of open-source software.
Give it a try. You might like it or it may not be your cup of tea. -

Hello, my mac book air won't update. Every time i try it goes onto the purple starry screen and stays that way for hours, so i just have to shut it down. I have deleted a lot on my laptop so there is enough space, please help?
I believe that system has a hall sensor on it to detect when the lid is closed so it can put the system to sleep and/or disable the monitor so it can be used with an external monitor only. If the sensor is marginal or has a bad cable, it may intermittently cut the monitor on and off, and may likewise put the system to sleep. One way to check would be to plug in an external monitor and if the laptop's screen cuts off or doesn't show up, start using the trackpad and press on a non-typing key like the shift key. If the external display suddenly pops and becomes active while the laptop display remains black, it's probably a problem with the sensor or the cable/connection. You might be able to fool the sensor into kicking on and off by moving a magnet over it. It's located on the left had side of the base with the unit opened up, and right over the audio output plug.
I know of some people that put a small magnet right over the hall sensor's location so the laptop display turns off and they use the system with an external monitor, keyboard, and mouse. If fooling with magnets, make sure they're small and don't get them close to the hard drive because a strong magnet can wipe them out.
I don't know if this will help you much, but it might. -
I have a Mac Book air 11". Normally at home I connect this to a large Thuderbolt Screen. When booting up it some times gets confused and offers me a low resolution result, but some plugging and unplugging of the screen fixes this. I assume it sometimes "sees" the big screen and sets the resolition accordingly. Sometimes does not. But now... I am away from big screen and cannot get the Macbook air on its one to deliver anything other than really poor resolution. I ahve done displays and chosen all three - but no better. And I have said Choose the Best ONe... again not luck. Any ideas. I read in back posts this was a problem a few years ago.
Welcome to Apple Discussions
I believe you have a failing GPU (aka Video Card). Run AHT and see what it tells you. Do not be afraid to run it up to three times in succession if at first it does not detect an error (sometimes errors that are caused by overheating will not show up until the computer is stressed enough - repeating AHT will do that).
As an aside - the MBA was not designed to take the place of a desktop. If you are powering your MBA by leaving it permanently attached to the thunderbolt port on the monitor you are shortening your battery life. -

Mac book air cracked screen. how much to repair and how long to fix it
is cracked screen on mac book air coverd under warrenty
Hello mehrnoosh,
A cracked/damaged screen is not covered by the one-year limited warranty (or) the AppleCare Protection Plan. It is considered accidental damage and thus not eligible for a free replacement/service under the terms of either. That being said, your renter's or home owner's insurance might be able to offer service/replacement coverage if personal electronic items are covered. In addition many major credit cards offer additional warranty/coverage options within the first X (it varies) of ownership. You would need to reach out to those specific coverage options yourself, however. -
Does apple make a mac book air that is touch screen?
Does apple make a mac book air that is touch screen?
Thanks for the help
I submitted my feedback and it reads "Hi Apple, My family owns an Ipod Shuffle, 2 Nanos, 2 iphones, one ipad and the AppleTV. However, I have an HP laptop. Why? I want the features of both the laptop and the ipad but am not willing to convert to the MAC book until the ipad and the mac book merge together as one. Is this even a possibility? I know you could create it in a split second. Why do you think you haven't? I get sick of unclicking the ipad from my cheap keyboard and then having it all cluttered up right by my laptop. If the mac book had a touch screen and it could flip the keyboard upside down (like the clam case does) so that I could use a laptop like an ipad then I would be on cloud 9. No pun intended. In fact, why don't you just call the thing "Cloud9." Just sayin'"
It would be cool if they were creating it right now. I would be all over it. -
I have the mac book air and when I turn it on its a light blue screen with a flashing folder with question mark on it. Any one know how to get past it?
The MBA is trying to tell you that it is not able to find a bootable system
Either the file is corrupt or access to the storrage has failed
I would start by seeing if it will boot with Command + R depressed -
Mac Book Air froze up and had to power down by force. When I tried to reboot, folder with a question mark on it is all that shows up on the screen.
Flashing folder with question mark?
Go step by step and test.

I am trying to use my iPhoto pictures as my screen saver on my mac book air. Many of the pictures' heads are cut off. How do I get the pictures to fit the screen properly without the pictures be distorted?
Open the screen saver control panel. Right above the preview window there's a popup menu. You'll probably want to set it to "Fit to screen" so the pictures will be resized to show on the display.

I have a mac book air. I felt down and I have broken the screen: several white lines on the screen. Do you know if I can only change the screen? Is it expensive?
Welcome to Apple Support Communities
Take your MacBook Air to an Apple Store or reseller to have your display replaced. If you want, you can buy the display yourself and install it, but as you can see, that's expensive > http://www.ifixit.com/MacBook-Parts/MacBook-Air-13-Inch-Mid-2012-Display-Assembl y/IF188-083?utm_source=ifixit_guide&utm_medium=guide_intro&utm_content=required_ items&utm_term=macbook_air_13%22_mid_2012 -
