Black Spots before still photos in movie

Hey There, I'm new to iMovie and seem to be getting a black spot after a transition and just before a still photo. I don't know what it is or how to remove it? Has anyone else experienced this? Is it something I need to change with the transition or the photo? I hope someone can help

Take a look at iPhoto.
It has more features for image formats and works well with iDVD.
Your original image files will be reduced in dimensions to fit the TV "safe viewing" area (about 640X480).
To get the iPhoto slideshow "movie" onto your iPad you will export it to QuickTime format and select the iPad preset and then add it to your iTunes Library.

  • Still photo from movie

I have been trying to figure out how to get a still photo from a movie clip. Is there anyway to take a still from the imovie video? I thought I could just drag and drop it on desktop but that isn't allowed. Any advice if this can be done. I do not want to use the still in part of the movie, I just want a still from the movie to use as a picture I can print out. Thanks for help.

This is easily done. Do a search of this discussion and you will find numerous posts on how to do it.

  • How to Add Still Photo for Movie Trailer?

I can't get iMovie '11 to see any of my iPhoto still pictures to add to a Movie Trailer. How can I do this? The photo icon is gray.

The Trailers don't accept stills, as they are designed to work only with video clips. However, a workaround is to convert the Trailer to a normal project (File>Convert to Project). Then you can edit the project like any other. A downside though is that any modifications you make may cause the music and images to go out of sync. The video and music could end up finishing at different times. You may therefore have to add your own music, lessening the impact of the predesigned theme. NOTE: Before converting, Duplicate the Trailer first, then convert the duplicate. To duplicate, right-click on the Project name in the Project Library then select Duplicate Project.
You could create a project containing just the stills you want to use in the Trailer. Export the project at full size, then re-import to an iMovie Event. That will effectively create a movie from the stills which should then be available for the Trailers. I haven't tested this but assume it will work, given that the stills have now been converted to video.
PS. I just tested the procedure described in my last paragraph above. It works perfectly. In fact you can use the Ken Burns effect on the photos before exporting, creating movement on the stills, which works great with the Trailers!

  • Create still photo from movie

I'm obviously missing something very basic... I'd like to capture a still shot from a movie. Isn't there a simple way to do that? Thanks.

Two ways to get a still:
    1) In project, move cursor to the frame. Right-click/add freeze frame. The Freeze frame is placed right behind the current clip in the project.
    2) Select a frame in an Event. Right-click/Add still frame to project. The still is added to the project at the end.
(after doing either 1 or 2, continue with step 3)
    3) Right-click on the still frame in your project. Select "Reveal in Finder". Drag the JPEG file that you see and drop it on the iPhoto icon in the Dock.
Hint: You can create a new project just for the stills. This way you will not clutter up an existing project.

  • IMovie 11 - How to add still photos to movie trailers

How do I get still images into my iMovie trailer (themed)? I can't seem to get them into the events tray. The project tray is filled with the trailer in process (can't pull them from there either). Import function just wants to pull video clips.
    Any insight would be appreciated.

  • Want to know if Premiere Elements has the capability to show movement on a still photo? Such as zoom

I am thinking of purchasing PE 12 if it has the capability to take a still photo and move the camera around on it like many videos I have seen.  I am currently using PE 9.  Thanks for any help on this subject.

What are you doing in Premiere Elements 9.0/9.0.1?
Are you keyframing the Motion properties of Scale (for Zoom) and Position (for Pan) to get a pan and zoom effect?
    or
Are you using the Edit Header/Effects/Presets and one of the presets for a pan OR zoom effect (the Presets allow for only a pan per picture or a zoom per picture but not a pan and zoom per picture).
    or
Have you been using the Elements Organizer 9 Slideshow Editor to create a slideshow with the pan and zoom feature there and then transfer the Elements Organizer 9 slideshow to Premiere Elements?
If it is the Premiere Elements 10, 11, or 12 Pan and Zoom Tool that is making you think to laterversion than 9.0/9.0.1, perhaps the following Adobe document may give you more information on that.

  • Ken Burns movie clips (not still photo)

How can I apply ken burns to movie clips. I know that the ken burns button only appears when we edit still photos, not movie clips. Is there any method to achieve an effect similar to ken burns? Or at least remotely similar?

iM's Bigger Brother FinalCutExpress allows such an effect by 'key framing' ..

  • Black Spot on Photos

I have recently discovered a black spot while taking photos using my 6 Plus. It shows up on all of my photos. All of my lenses are perfectly clean. Any ideas on what has caused this? And no, I haven't dropped it at all.

Do you see the spot only on the phone when viewing or on the computer as well?

  • Black dropzones?  Can't add photos, or movie clips?

    Hello,
I am trying to make an iDVD.  I have made many before, but I have never had a problem like this before?  Whenever I try to add a movie, or even a photo to any of the dropzones, all I see is a black dropzone?  No photo, no image.  When I add a movie with "chapters" the chapters open on the "scene" page, with the chapter headings that I specified, but again, the little dropzones are black?  No movies?
Does any body have an Idea?
I noticed a bouncing folder that opened when I first opened the iDVD program that I didn't recognize called "MultimediaImporter.oxyen"?  Since I had no idea what it was, and since it was "not responding" anyway, I "Force Quit" it.  I read that it might have something to do with Perian?  I took a look at this program a long time ago, but I deleted it, and I don't see any remnants of it when I search my "finder" so I don't see why this would still be affecting me?  But if it is, How can I fix it?
I am frustrated. iDVD has always been a stable and easy to use program.  I don't know what is going on now?

  • Photo To Movie - A solution to Jaggy edges to a moving still?  (Ken Burns)

    Hello Hello
I know folks have talked about this before ......
I recently received a tip about 'Photo to Movie', and how it improves those Jaggy images (the outer parameter of a photo), that can be seen in both Quicktime (on your computer screen), AND from a burned DVD on your TV.
Well I have to admit that 'Photo to Movie' definitely helps remove the Jaggies.
    BUT
Is is just me - or is it true that there is less quality in those panned and zoomed images as compared to iMovie? It certainly looks so to me ...... perhaps less detail .... on the TV screen
Ya know when iMovie HD came out, I immediately saw an improvement in the resolution of burned movies onto a DVD on the TV.
I've read the other posts about the Jaggy problem in Pans and Zooms including these solutions:
Workaround #1 is to turn ON the Ken Burns Effect before importing an image.
    (I always do that)
Workaround #2 is to convert still images to good quality video with Photo To Movie. Photo To Movie and Still Life have more features than iMovie's built-in Ken Burns effect. Photo To Movie's High Quality setting renders still images into very good quality video that doesn't flicker when viewed on a TV.
(I just bought Photo to Movie - it works)
But again is there a trade off in perhaps less detail in the images?
    Thanx

When you look at movies, or frames of movies, in iMovie, you're looking at the entire frame. So if you import photos into iMovie, and don't use any panning or zooming, you'll see the entire photo ..but - as Karsten and Matthew say - at a reduced quality than the original photo(s), because movie resolution is lower than photo resolution.
To create a zoom out or pan effect across a picture, you obviously have to start with a smaller area of the picture than the area of the full photo. You then travel across the photo, still using a smaller area than the full photo, or you zoom out until you're looking at the entire photo.
If you start with a smaller section that the full photo, then if the photo has only a little higher resolution than video (..say it's a 3 megapixel photo..) then that smaller section has to be automatically enlarged to fill the entire video frame, so the apparent resolution of that smaller area of the entire picture will probably appear to be less sharp than the overall, entire photo.
It's like examining a newspaper photo with a magnifying glass: you'll start to see the detail of the dots which comprise the photo, instead of seeing the overall photo as a whole.
The higher the resolution of the original photo - e.g; 8 or 10 megapixels - the less will seem to be the quality loss as you pan or zoom across a small region of it.
But if you start with a 2, 3 or perhaps 5 megapixel photo, then - depending on how far you zoom "into" it - you may well see a poorer quality image in the panned or zoomed sections than you would see on the overall image.
..As in the film "Blow-Up" ..the more you magnify something, the less clear it can become ..unless maybe you're using an electron microscope..

  • My still photos won't all show in my movie

My movie has both still images and video.  However, i movie gets stuck on the previous video clip in playback and the sequence of still photos won't appear.  I've not had this problem before.  Any ideas?
    Thanks

  • Does still photo resolution determine maximum movie quality?

I am making a movie combining relatively low quality jpegs and dv footage.
It seems that I read somewhere that if you are going to combine still photos and dv footage that you have to import the video first or else the resolution of the photos will set the maximum resolution of the whole movie. Is this true?
    Thanks,
    Artlover13060

    Artlover,
Never heard that one before, but what do I know? The following may be totally wrong, but I feel like taking a stab at this, so if I'm wrong, I'm sure I will be quickly pounced on. I believe that iMovie sets a maximum resolution on imported photos, your low quality ones will be used as is, I imagine. They have to be converted to a video format anyway. The video clips will be used as is, but sized as 720X480 to fit your TV screen. Am I right folks?

  • Keyframing still photos causes jerky movement during transition

I am trying to pan over a few of my still photos in my movie by using the keyframe function, and in the playback the movement appears jerky during the cross-dissolve transition.  Can anyone suggest a good way to fix this?  I am using FCE 4.0.1.
    Thank you!

I apologize, I just realized I found the answer to my question - I have pasted the answer from another post below for those that might be reading this:
This is because by adding the cross dissolve, you are having FCE show portions of the clip that precede and follow where your keyframes are. So the dissolve starts, the clip is just sitting there, then begins motions when the keyframe starts . . . etc.
You need to double click on a clip on the timeline, so that it opens in the viewer, then click on the Motion tab and move your starting keyframes for the clip before and after start and end of the transitions on the timeline.

  • I need to add text over a still photo in iMovie.  Following directions that always worked before but not this time.

I am running OS 10.6.8, an upgrade that I did after Christmas.  A couple of times a year, I need to make a video of my students' performances, and have always been able to add text over the still photos before, using the directions in iMovie "help."  However, this time, I am not able to choose a title style; no amount of clicking makes anything show up on the selected still photo.  And no amount of trying to choose the font style makes anything show up either.
This is iMovie 09; is it possible that it is not compatible with my OS upgrade?
I've been able to insert still photos into the video footage, but can't add any titles or acknowledgements.  Thank you so much for your help!  Since I only do this a couple of times a year, it always takes me forever to accomplish, which is why I printed off the Help directions to follow.

just to make thing clear (sorry for sounding impudent!)
    you do .... :
    create a New Project
make a selection of an Event and add it to the Project
select a title and drag it onto the clip?
iM does work with your OS ...
