Black Text Has White Halo When Save as PDF

I have 12pt black text on a green background and when I save as a PDF, a white halo pops up under some of the text, but not all of the text. On the words it does it on, it is as if I had the same word typed in white text with black text on the top. If I flatten the image first, it goes away but the text losing quality.

  • Text getting cut off when printing to PDF from Excel

    Hello,
I've seen a lot related to this subject but nothing that shows a real solution.
Using Excel 2003-sp3 and Adobe Acrobat v.9 Standard, the right half of the last character in the string gets cut off. It prints from excel fine.
It's not always the text that is the right-most on the page either. An affected PDF file is attached - note the cut off "S" on the last line (NET ASSETS OF GOVERNMENTAL ACTIVITIES).
         Any assistance is appreciated.
    Thanks,

  • I have a user that has an issue when printing to PDF.

I have a user that has an issue when printing to PDF. When printing to PDF the PC will intermittently freeze and sometimes the print spooler will crash taking all other printers offline. A reboot clears it up for a while but then it comes back.
    Acrobat 11 Pro
    Windows 7 x64
    Office 2010 Professional
Any help would be great!  Thanks

I manage a network of 30,000 + workstations all with Acrobat Pro 10.  Upon upgrading to 10.1.10, they all exhibited similar symptoms printing to the PDF printer.  The problem is most obvious in IE 11, it will cause the browser to stop responding, however it seems to depend on the page being viewed.  For example we can print google.com, but not yahoo.com.
And of course there is no method to roll back to 10.1.9, other than to completely remove and re-install Acrobat.
I hope this is getting addressed soon!

  • Black text on white background has horrible glow after export & viewed on TV.

I'm wondering how to correct a glow that develops around black text after exporting. Black text is on white background of course.
    Export settings:
    H.264
    HDTV 1080p 24 HQ
I've checked of 'use max. render quality' as well as 'render at max. depth'
If someone could help, that would be greatly appreciated!

If you want to try the contrast change.
In Titler ..make the White Fill less than full white. ( Color Picker Fill)  235 to 245 should be fine.
I would not mess with the Black and you should not need to Key line anything with Grey.
But maybe you did not make this text in Titler.
If not..you need to make the changes in original application. eg PhotoShop.
What TV is involved in viewing this?
How does the Text look in the PPRO Monitors?

  • Black text prints white

I finally purchased a copy of iWork '08 and merrily created about 80 slides only when I went to print them out I discovered that the image of the text was in most places white. If the text was in a box it printed and some of the grey text printed along with all text I have set up to fade in or out as the presentation progresses. The details:
The black text appears in preview but appears white due to the colored background.
    Changing fonts does not help.
All other programs print fine. I am printing on a Canon MP830, the text does show up on my Laser.
If I export it to a .pdf the problem follows, even though the text appears on the screen and in preview.
If I change the color of my text from black to red, or blue it prints fine, shades of grey do not.
If I export the file to power point and print it from an old version I have in a "Classic" partition running OS 10.4 it prints but when I installed iWork in this partition I get the same result.
The printer, my software, and iWork has the latest updates installed.
This is obviously (well maybe not so obviously since it could be a virus no one has caught up with yet) a huge bug in iWork and how it handles black text (I don't know about graphics because there are not black graphics in my slides). I spent several hours reading through the "Discussions" and there are quite a few instances where black text comes out white, blank sheets print out, conversions to .pdf come out with no text ect.
Does any one know of a work around for this? My only option currently is to fix this or return iWork and go back to Micorsoft with my tail between my legs and purchase Office.

Presets is set to "Standard" I never changed it. If I select the drop down window there is a choice for "last used settings" and a "Save As".
I did manage to get my slides printed by saving the file as a Power Point, opening it in a old Office 2001 version of Power Point I have in a "Classic" partition. After a little reformatting they printed perfectly on the same printer. Its kind of sad to have a 8 year old Microsoft program out-perform the latest program from Apple. Of course I will say that using Keynote was enjoyable, but if you can't reliably Print and Export the program is useless no matter how many useful features it comes with.

  • OFFICEJET PRO 8600 PLUS HAS POOR QUALITY, BLACK TEXT HAS HORIZONTAL LINES & FADING

I have a Officejet Pro 8600 Plus which is a few months old. It gets light use although I'm a graphic designer working from home.
The problem just started with a very poor print quality.  The black text fades in and out, has horizontal lines through it.  The color text also has horizontal print qualities.
I replaced all of the color ink cartridges, the black is mostly full.
I have repeatedly run the Align Printhead and Clean Printhead functions on the printer with no improvement.
What can I do at this point?  I need the printer function very soon.
    I'm on a Mac OS 10.7.5

    Hello Brembo50,
Welcome to the HP Support Forums!
Regarding the Officejet pro 8600 not printing a clean crisp black text, the steps you have done are very good attempts to resolve.
When you printed the cleaning, did the characters print clean and crisp? It should look like this:
Please excuse the blurry image and colors should be on the bottom of the page, how ever the above should give you an idea of what it should look like.
Performing the steps in this HP document: Fixing Ink Streaks, Faded Prints, and Other Common Print Quality Problems should help. It will have you doing steps you have done already, I recommend doing the steps but you could skip the steps you have done already.
Let me know how things look now,

  • White text on black -- black text on white?

I have a pdf document that has a black background with (mostly) white text (highlighted text is blue).
Is there any way using Acrobat Pro X to invert that to get a "normal" document with black text on a white background?
If I try Tools > Pages > Edit Page Design > Background > Remove Background, there's a progress bar that says "Removing background," but after a short time that goes away having done nothing.  If I try Update Background, I get an error message:  "Adobe cannot find a background in this file. If you see a background, it was not added in Acrobat or by an AdobePDFMaker, and cannot be detected as such."

The only thing I can think of to try is to print the document and then scan it, setting your scanner to reverse black and white.

  • I have some problems when turning on my iphone5.  The screen turns black and so white and when I start an app it suddenly turn itselves off.  This happens every time when I turn it on.  After I have turned it on several times it acts normal...Anyone??

I have some problems when turning on my iphone 5.  The screen turns black and then white and the appli is red and when I finally get in and start an app it turnes itselves off.  This happens every time when I turn it on.  After I have turned it on several times it acts normal.... But something is wrong...Anyone???

    Try reset
Reset: Hold down the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears. Note: You will not lose any data
If no joy, restore backup using iTunes.
Finally last attempt, rsetore as new and sync content back manually.

  • Fonts not embedding when "save as" pdf

Version: Photoshop CS4 64 bit on Windows Vista 64.
Issue: fonts not getting embedded during conversion to pdf.
I am attempting to save files for commercial printing in Photoshop pdf format (file-save as-pdf). In the past, using previous versions of Photoshop, the fonts have always been embedded in the pdf document when I choose the "Press Quality" pdf preset. However, now, even when I simplify my Photoshop source file down to the most basic level (one non-background layer with one line of type using a font I KNOW has successfully embedded before) the resulting pdf reports NO embedded fonts (no fonts at all, actually) and when sized up a great deal in Acrobat Pro shows pixelation as though the type was converted to a graphic. If I open the resulting pdf file in Photoshop the text is still editable though...
I have Photoshop files that were built using a previous version of Photoshop (CS2). When I open these in Photoshop CS4 and save as pdf the fonts are embedded just as they always were so the problem lies not with the CS4 version of Photoshop itself but rather with NEW files created by it. It seems that any NEW files I create using Photoshop CS4 wil not embed their fonts when saved as pdfs.
    Help !!?!! (example file attached)

Good points. To test that out I tried substituting different non-commercial fonts (Arial, Tahoma, Times, etc.) and then saving as a pdf. No matter what fonts I try they don't get embedded. So that would seem to rule out the idea that Photoshop CS4 is now restricting the embedding of fonts to non-commercial ones.
I have poured through the save-as-pdf options in GREAT detail - have tried many various options and don't see any settings that have either made a difference or seem relevant. According to Adobe documentation anytime you select "Press Quality" as the preset the fonts should automatically be embedded.
The really odd thing is, if I take a psd file that was originally created using a previous version of Photoshop, delete all the layers and then create one single line type layer so that it is identical in every way to my CS4 test file, any font I select gets embedded when I convert that file to pdf - same exact pdf preset - all file settings the same - everything! - except that it was originally created using a previous Photoshop version.
    Does that make ANY sense??

  • Why does some text convert to outlines when opening a PDF in AI?

I often have to open PDFs saved from InDesign CS5 in Illustrator CS5 (Mac). These PDFS are saved from InDesign using Press or PDFX1-a settings.
When I open them in AI, I get the warning that "to preserve appearance, some text has been outlined".
Of course, I do not want this to happen.
The text that gets outlined is nothing special. It is seemingly at random within a paragraph or within a cell of a table. In the screen shot below, live text has the blue underline; outlined text does not.
I can see no rationale for it. There is no transparency involved. Just black text on no background. There is no special "appearance" that needs to be preserved. Fonts are all Adobe OTF (Myriad Pro shown below).
Can anyone explain why this happens?

PDFs are not supposed to be edited as a rule.
Lots of odd things can happen to text (but also other objects) when you open a PDF - that is not a pdf with the editable Illustrator file saved within it - and try to edit it.
Illustrator is not a general purpose editor of pdf files.
PDF files are supposed to be an end-format, not a format that you edit.
What happens to text in a pdf when opened in Illustrator is perfectly normal. There isn't really much you can do about it except recreate the text in Illustrator from scratch, with the desired font, and re-export to the pdf-version you need.

  • Distiller missing text and image links when saving to pdf

Not sure if anyone has experienced this issue before. Basically I create artwork 1up in indesign CS3 and print as a postscript file "print ready settings" then create a pdf through distiller 8.1.2. After this I then imposition the 1up PDF back into indesign (using the pdf as a link and then step and repeat it) then I print the new imposed artwork as postscript file again and distill it as a PDF ready for offset printing.
Most time this process works like a dream, but every now and then distiller doesn't want to process the file correctly and images and sometimes text have dropped off the final imposed PDF file. It doesnt notify me of any problems when distilling. As you can imagine working in the print industry this is VERY SCARY
As i am using a common 1up pdf link the imposition should be correct, (all the pdf linked images should be the same anyway) Is it a memory issue, or a bug in distiller perhaps.
Im running a Mac with OSX 10.4.11 with 2Gig of RAM.
If you would like to see a sample of the issue let me know.
Any help on this would be awesome.

    thanks for the replies,
Working in a pre-press environment we obviously prefer to print from pdf files (as opposed to using supplied native art). As a result I am always receiving pdf files from external clients who have saved their artwork from indesign to pdf format, so Im not sure what the real difference is between me imposing a supplied indesign/pdf files in indesign vs me imposing my own indesign/pdf files in indesign. (aprt from perhaps going through distiller twice)
i can see what your saying though and for years i have been using the cut and paste and step and repeat method but recently changed my workflow for a few reasons
    - I noticed that by printing a 1up pdf and relinking the file back into my indesign imposition the final imposed pdf was lower in size
    - if a client made a change to the artwork after imposing (which always happens) all i had to do was make the change, resave the pdf 1up link again and update the link and it did it for me and saved me from step and repeating all over again,
    - whenever the job was printed again in the future i could use the same procedure, resave as 1up pdf again and update the link.
    - plus i knew that if i was using the one link all my step and repeats would be exactly the same each time (and i didn't have to worry that a graphic that hadn't been selected/grouped correctly and would drop off when step and repeating)
.....and for sure it probably is a slightly longer way to impose a job for print but it saves me half the time on the next print run, and i can use my imposition file as a template for similar jobs also.
I have found the workflow i use works fine, apart from these rare hiccups which i can get around by resaving the pdf again anyway, but what Im really worried about is the times this error presents itself and doesn't notify me that a problem has occurred.

  • Abiword 3.0 - crash when save as pdf

Recently I have upgraded Abiword to 3.0. When save a document in pdf format Abiword crashes and leaves 2 files in the directory:
    .gsf-save-XXXXXX
    documentname.abw.saved
Is it an issue with the new 3.0 version or something is wrong with my system? In previous version the pdf conversion worked fine. Thanks!

    Abiword 3.0 is a mess!
    I can confirm abiword crashes when trying to save a document as *.pdf on 3.12.7-2-ARCH x86_64 + i686 + 3.8.13.1-1-ARCH armv7l, GNU/Linux, Openbox, LXDE.
Furthermore the top ruler is covered by a grey bar as soon as you click into the text window so you cannot use tabulators nor indentation. (Bugzilla Bug 13582)
The system wide theme and appearance settings are ignored and abiword appears in a very ugly GTK standard theme.
Seems like abiword 3.0 has inherited all the long known bugs from its 2.9.X antecessors.
IMHO it was a bad decision to put abiword 3.0 into the repositorys as it is unstable and buggy.
The only way is to downgrade to last stable 2.8.6-9 version until abiword becomes usable again.
EDIT: Another annoying bug: *.odt files created and saved with abiword 2.8.X cannot be opened with abiword 3.X!!

  • Excel Print preview stopped working and when save as pdf, pdf is blank

    mac 10.5.8
    excel home and student 2011
i was working on 2 documents for our accountant.
created one in excel, converted to pdf
created second one in excel, converted to pdf
there was maybe a 30 minute time lapse between these 2 files...tops
the first file does in fact have a print preview, and the pdf opens and is viewable.
HOWEVER, on the second file, there is no print preview, and pdf is blank.
(although the printer does in fact print the file with all the words and whatnot on it...)
    blank pdf prints blank.
i tried xlsx, and xls to pdf, and nothing works.
it seems that all of the files created before this troublesome one can be converted and seen in print preview....even if i add a new sheet to the workbook, that works just fine...can print preview and convert pdf no problems.
now, when i try to do that with the second file, or any new excel doc, i canNOT convert or print preview....everything is blank.
one minute it was working, the next it's not.
it works for some excel files while not working for newer ones.
nothing was changed in preferences for excel, preview, or the printer, unless i accidentally typed a keyboard command that would allow this to happen.
i REALLY need to be able to convert excel to pdf!  and i really don't want to have to print them out just to scan them in and save the scans as pdf...not fun.
i have been researching, or trying to research this here, and it seems that there is a known bug for office 2008, or for a different OS, but none of the work arounds for those issues are helping me here!
someone, please help me get my save as pdf back!!!!

Try different page setups and layouts.  Reinstall the Office fonts, or check for new patches from Microsoft.     Check in Microsoft Office forums.   Mind you PDF from preview and print are not as complete as Adobe Acrobat Pro, and are based on open source PDF standards.  I don't know how well the standards were at the time your Office application was written, or if 10.5's PDF standard was up to Office's snuff, or if you updating to the latest available Adobe Acrobat Reader  and Plugin will help, but between Office's and Adobe's forum you may be abl eto find an answer.

  • Text/image boxes disappearing when printed to PDF [CS2, Win]

Strange things are happening today: Text boxes and image boxes, perfectly visible in InDesign -- are completely disappearing when printed to PDF.
The first time I printed, everything came out fine. Then after I moved some stuff around and reprinted, things disappeared.
Any insight would be much appreciated.

    Yes, that worked. Thanks!
    Any idea why this happened?

  • Jumbled text and spacing issues when creating a pdf

When I create pdfs from FrameMaker 9 or Word 2007 files, Acrobat 9 Pro often transposes characters or modifies the spacing between characters. Can anyone help?

I modified the settings according to the help page. I then built 5 pdfs and did not see evidence of the letter jumbling or spacing issues. Since this issue is intermittent, I cannot confirm that the problem is solved, but I am hopeful!
