Black text in finder

My 6 year old played with my settings and now all  windows are black. How do I restore the original settings?

Hold the Command Alt Control keys and hit the 8 key. (⌃⌘⌥  8)
Or go to: System Preferences > Universal Access > Seeing and in the Display section, switch White on Black back to Black on White.

  • Finding non-black text

I get a lot of Word files where various bits of text are in color (often URLs or editorial changes), or sometimes text is made from a color-build rather than black. I need to change all of these to black text. Oddly, selecting all the text and clicking the "Black" swatch will not do it if there's a character style involved.
I know how to search for a color, but it's hard to anticipate all of the colors that might appear. What I want to do is a search for any text that's *not* black. I can't find a way to do that. Any ideas?

#1. Delete the color swatch and replace with black! (Oh well, I guess that's not all there is to this.)
#2. Search for text that is black, then press the [Right] key. The next character is either end-of-story, or it's not black.

You sure? That only happens if the character style defines the new color.

  • HP 3540 AIO Printer DOESN'T PRINT BLACK TEXT!

I unfortunately have an HP AIO Printer Deskjet 3540 Series.
Upon haggling wiht the abject customer tech support for an hour, he asks me to re-install the driver. After doing so, the black text JUST DOESN'T PRINT!
Is this some kind of joke! I am going to run out of colored ink in printng the **bleep** test pages.
It's an absolute rip-off. No wonder people buy cheap cartridges.

    Hi @GaurangDivecha
Although I would be happy to offer you some troubleshooting steps, I think it might be best to call HP.
You are welcome to take a look at the following document to ensure you have done all the necessary troubleshooting; Printer Prints a Blank Page or Does Not Print Black or Color Ink for the HP ENVY 4500 and Deskjet In...
If you are in Canada or US call 800 474 6836, or you can Contact HP Worldwide.
HP printers generally have a 1 year warranty from their purchase date, you can verify the warranty using the following link if you would like; warranty check.
Don't hesitate to call, although the printer may be out of warranty, the cartridges could be in warranty; therefore, there wouldn't likely be a fee for the phone support. HP will, at HP's option, either replace products under warranty that prove to be defective or refund the purchase price.
To find the “Warranty Ends” date, look in the following table for the date's location on each product. The date follows the YYYY/MM/DD or YYYY/MM format, where YYYY indicates the year, MM indicates the month, and DD indicates the day.
    I hope this helps.

  • How to get black text in window title

I have difficulty distinguishing between active windows and inactive windows because the title text for both is a shade of gray. How can I theme OS X Lion to use black text  scrollbar, and controls for active windows; gray for inactive windows?
I am tired of having to click on a window to ensure that it is active.

Ha, I had the graphite theme, so they were gray. While they were darker than an inactive window, they still didn't call attention to themselves. I've switched to blue and now they're in color. Not sure why they are called "blue" and "graphite" as the only difference I notice is the color buttons, none of which are blue, for blue and the gray buttons for graphite. I still don't usually look over in that direction; I'm looking at the title to see if its the window I'm interested it. Still, that gets a helpful.
Still, I'd really like black text as I find gray text harder to read. And the back/forward buttons in Firefox don't change enough between active and inactive. I'd like that to be really black. (I'm told that OS X theming interferes with being able to change that; not sure if it's true.)
As for the active one usually being in front, that's assuming that the active one is taking up a majority of the real estate. I often have two windows side-by-side. Further, stickies don't have the three buttons, so it's no help when they're active (and there's a bug - which I've reported - that sometimes makes them inadvertently active).

  • OFFICEJET PRO 8600 PLUS HAS POOR QUALITY, BLACK TEXT HAS HORIZONTAL LINES & FADING

I have a Officejet Pro 8600 Plus which is a few months old. It gets light use although I'm a graphic designer working from home.
The problem just started with a very poor print quality.  The black text fades in and out, has horizontal lines through it.  The color text also has horizontal print qualities.
I replaced all of the color ink cartridges, the black is mostly full.
I have repeatedly run the Align Printhead and Clean Printhead functions on the printer with no improvement.
What can I do at this point?  I need the printer function very soon.
    I'm on a Mac OS 10.7.5

    Hello Brembo50,
Welcome to the HP Support Forums!
Regarding the Officejet pro 8600 not printing a clean crisp black text, the steps you have done are very good attempts to resolve.
When you printed the cleaning, did the characters print clean and crisp? It should look like this:
Please excuse the blurry image and colors should be on the bottom of the page, how ever the above should give you an idea of what it should look like.
Performing the steps in this HP document: Fixing Ink Streaks, Faded Prints, and Other Common Print Quality Problems should help. It will have you doing steps you have done already, I recommend doing the steps but you could skip the steps you have done already.
Let me know how things look now,

  • White text on black -- black text on white?

I have a pdf document that has a black background with (mostly) white text (highlighted text is blue).
Is there any way using Acrobat Pro X to invert that to get a "normal" document with black text on a white background?
If I try Tools > Pages > Edit Page Design > Background > Remove Background, there's a progress bar that says "Removing background," but after a short time that goes away having done nothing.  If I try Update Background, I get an error message:  "Adobe cannot find a background in this file. If you see a background, it was not added in Acrobat or by an AdobePDFMaker, and cannot be detected as such."

The only thing I can think of to try is to print the document and then scan it, setting your scanner to reverse black and white.

  • Stop it from using photo black ink for black text printing and where has the color ink gone?

My HP Photosmart Prem C310 series all in one is using the Black Photo ink cartridge for text printing instead of the XL Black that I put in it for text printing. How can I get it to use the right cartridge for printing? Also, even though I have NOT printed ANY photo's and very few pages of text the new set of color cartridges I put in it a few months ago are almost empty. Why? How could they be almost empty when I have NOT printed anything in color? This is getting ridiculous replacing ink cartridges every few months WHEN I HAVE NOT BEEN PRINTING ANYTHING!!!
The set of ink cartridges that came with it lasted for several months. Since then I've gone through two sets in less than a year. That's 3 sets of ink cartridges when I have only printed 3 photo's when I first set it up. And have only used les than a 1/4 of one package of printing paper. I've only put paper in it twice. Each time it was about a 1/4 inch or 3/8 of an inch thick stack of paper in the tray. I've even tried shutting the printer down when its not being used for a long period of time but the ink is still disapearing. Where is it going? Why is it going there? How do I stop it? This is rediculous. I may as well junk the thing even though it still works because I cant aford to keep feeding it ink when its just sitting there doing nothing most of the time.
    Thank you
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

I just got another email from HP about this problem wanting to know what I found for a solution to this problem. From all of the suggestions from the HP tec support all of them pretty much kept saying the same thing. That it is my fault that it's using so much ink because I have it on the wrong settings. One tec did slip and say that it doesn't matter what settings you have it on it will always use the Photo Black cartridge for printing plain black text and it doesn't matter if you have a X-Large Black cartridge in it for text printing because it was made to always use the Photo Black for text and even use some of the colors to blend with the black to make it stand out. Why anybody would need this when just printing shipping labels and things like that I don't know.
Any who, The only solution for this problem is,,,, junk the printer and get a different brand & model of printer. Research it before buying to find out how much ink it wants to waste and if it will still print black text if it only has a black cartridge in it. I was going to get rid of mine by giving it to a friend since they don't have a printer. But since I want to keep him as a friend I decided not to give it to him. Since it cant be traded in for a different one even though it still works, Its going to the target shooting range the next time I go out shooting. Maybe I'll take a few video's clips of it getting blasted to pieces with a Ruger 10-22 .22 cal. rifle with 25 shot clips, a Ruger Mini-14 Ranch Rifle shooting .223 cal with a 30 shot clip, a Chinese SKS 7.62 with a 30 shot clip. And maybe use my Ruger P89 9mm pistol and put a couple 15 round clips of 9mm in it. If there's anything left I'll finish it off with a few 3" magnum loads of #2 steel shot with my 20 gauge shotgun.  Then I think I'll do the same thing to my Westinghouse 46" flat screen HDTV that just died.
Then maybe I'll come back and post the video's of my "solution to this printers problem". It may not fix the problem, but it will be an entertaining way of getting rid of the problem.

  • Black text prints with screen in non PS digital printer

I'm trying to find a way to print a color CS3 document to our Panasonic DP-C264 so that the black text prints solid black with no screening. It works if I use the PS driver, but some of the finishing options we need aren't available in that driver. The only other way I've found to get solid black text is to output in grayscale, but obviously that's not acceptable for a color job! So far I've tried making sure the transparency flattening is set to high, set the text attributes to "overprint fill," set text to print black in the print dialog box... but no joy; I always get screened black text.
Ultimately we want to offer a solution for customers who are creating documents in InDesign (CS through CS3) and creating PDFs for us to print for them. So if there is a way to get the text to go solid black in the PDF process, that would be great to know also.
    Ideas??

I will check on that when I print from PDF -- I'm starting out by printing directly from InDesign first though. I figure it it doesn't work from the original application there's not much point in going to PDF...!! Thanks for the idea though; I wasn't aware of the Print As Image option.
    Cheers,
    Linda

I did a clean printhead several times and all the colors looks very good see print screen
After this i did a Print Quality Diagnostics Page and there is no black inkt see print screen
My inkt cartridges "364" are almost full.

    This post " http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Ink-Toner-Cartridge-Printhead-Issues/Black-not-printing/m-p/2926025#M32... " didn't solved my issue.

  • HP C6150 All-In-One Will Not Print Black Text But Does Partial Test Print

Hi.  Thanks in advance for any help anyone can proffer.
I've read through the forum and I think there are some similar issues, but none exactly the same as ours.
This HP C6150 does print pictures, but suddenly stopped printing black text.
HOWEVER, the test prints will print in black with the Windows Logo, but will not print any associated text.
Odd.  It just suddenly stopped printing.
    Variables:
C6150 All in One - No other problems for two years.
Using refilled ink cartridges from outside source. (not my decision)
Ink is full.  No other changes made in last three days.
    Troubleshooting Steps:
Uninstalled and then re-installed software in entirety.
Put in 'new' (refilled) cartridge for black and magenta.
Tried (not sure if successful) soft reset.
Tried cleaning the print cartridge with 'Q-Tip' and distilled water.
Have not yet spent money on new OEM print cartridges.  That is next step unless other suggestions merit.
    Possibilities:
It may be the refilled cartridges, but they've worked so well in the past.
The cartridge prior to the recent replacement was working fine and was not yet out of ink.
The print head might be damaged.  But this should/would affect all black printing and this is not the case.
Were the driver corrupt, the reinstall should have fixed it ... you'd think.
So, we're looking for some suggestions prior to going out and getting a new printer.
Thanks again, in advance, for constructive non-judgmental suggestions.
    MackNC

The likely cause is the black ink is not printing at all.  When printing graphics (like the Windows Test Page) black is made from mixing the color ink.  I would suggest printing an internal diagnostic test page as shown in this page.  Does the black block print?  If not then clean the printheads as described here.

  • Is it possible to remove overprints on black text in Acrobat 9 Pro?

I have a set of PDFs generated that all have black type that is set to overprint. My goal is to remove the overprints from the black type in Acrobat 9 Professional without flattening the black type into the color behind it (like the Flattener Preview does).  I want the black type to knockout whatever is behind it instead of overprinting.  I would like to know if this is possible for vector objects as well.  I have scoured through the Print Production menu choices and especially the >Preflight>Fixups where I have only found options to turn overprints on.  I even tried to create a new Fixup to do the task, however I couldn't seem to do anything custom - only reproduce what Fixups already exist in the app with a different variable affected. What am I overlooking?  It seems this would be something so simple to do with the amount of other extremely complex pre-press options in Acrobat 9.
In case it's relevant, the PDFs were generated from InDesign CS4, where the text overprints were created automatically by the option being set in the "Appearance of Black" preferance pane (since turned off).  The PDF was generated in the PDF/X-1a:2001 standard and is strictly CMYK with no spots.  I would post a sample but the file is an unposted retail sign that is currently confidential.
My sincerest thanks in advance for any tips as to how this can be done.
    Aaron

This is a work around. Bring the pdf into Illustrator. Go to Select >Object>Text.  In the attributes panel, deselect Overprint. In the Transparency panel, select Knockout Group. In the Appearance panel, check to make sure the black is not overprinting by clicking on the Character entry. If not, try clicking "Clear Appearance" (here I got a little lost.
Resave the pdf file. Your black text should now knock out. You may have to retrap, unless your RIP does that for you.
Hope this helps. (I had to keep trying to get it to work, but I finally did.

  • InDesign printing to PDF results in white "highlight" effect behind PLAIN black text.

InDesign printing to PDF booklet spreads results in white "highlight" effect behind PLAIN black text. There are no text effects like drop shadows or transparency. Some of the text is in it's own shape above a semi-transparent shape, but not all.
Exporting to PDF does not cause this problem, just printing to pdf. I cannot use the exported pdf as I need the full booklet spreads. Help!

In addition to vinny38's advise to not print to PDF, you may not even need printer's spreads, unless you are printing this yourself. If you are sending this off press, the prepress team will want to do the imposition themselves. If you are printing to a network copier, some have the ability to do booklet printing from a multi-page PDF saved in single-page reader's spreads (one page for each page of the document, rather than two document pages for each PDF page).
If you do need to print this yourself and if you have to impose it in InDesign, consider making a new document and placing the pages of your original document onto the pages of the new document, the way you would place any other images. You can decide where the pages have to go in order to get printer's spreads, and when you're done imposing, export as a PDF and print that PDF to your printer. You will get a better-quality PDF than printing to PDF.

  • ITunes 11 has black background with black text

I had previously set iTunes to use the dark grid theme. Now I've upgraded to itunes 11 but i'm stuck with cases where I have a black background and black text with no preferences option to fix it. (the same problem I had with the previous itunes version, even when i tried selecting a different theme it wouldn't change)
    examples include the downloads window
And views like album view that the text changes color based on the album art, and the background is supposed to too but mine doesn't, so sometimes the icons/text will be unreadable. Like the close, play, shuffle, etc buttons in the screen shot below.
I have tried retinstalling iTunes several times between 10.6 and 11 to fix various bugs but it's never worked properly.
Thanks for any help anyone can provide.

Very Big thank you All of you for your help !!! It's been an hour that I didn't know what to do to see which songs to chooses because of the grey typo on black background !!! Merci
defaults write com.apple.iTunes high-contrast-mode-enable -bool FALSE
Enfin sauvée après une heure de galère à chercher partout comment changer la skin de itunes 11 alors que c'était en fait un bug d'affichage !!!
