Black to colour question

I think I have a very simple question but I can't find the answer. I have a simple black and white picture of a chicken and I want it to become (light) blue, but when I google something like 'color to black' I only get pages for turning photos into colour and that is much to complicated for this. Can someone help me with this?

First, there are two ways to interpret your question.
Which would you prefer?
These are both fairly easy to achieve.  For either, do the following:
Image - Mode - RGB color.
Image - Adjust - Curves.
Then for the first case above, adjust the Black points of the Blue channel (and possibly the others) until the blue color is to your liking.
In the second case adjust the White points of the Red and Green channels.

Edit:  Corrected a small mistake in the first case Black point adjustment text.

Every once in a while when I open my mail or open a page I get lines of strange symbols like black triangles with question marks in the center.  I have reset the ipad2 to new condition but the problem still exists.

A reset does not make tthe iPad "like new."
First, let's ensure that we agree on just what is a Reset...
Hold down the on/off switch and the Home button simultaneously until you see the Apple logo.  Ignore the "Slide to power off" text if it appears.  You will not lose any apps, data, music, movies, settings, etc.
If the Reset doesn't work, try a Restore.  Note that it's nowhere near as quick as a Reset.  Connect via cable to the computer that you use for sync.  From iTunes, select the iPad/iPod and then select the Summary tab.  Follow directions for Restore and be sure to say "yes" to the backup.  You will be warned that all data (apps, music, movies, etc.) will be erased but, as the Restore finishes, you will be asked if you wish the contents of the backup to be copied to the iPad/iPod.  Again, say "yes."
At the end of the basic Restore, you will be asked if you wish to sync the iPad/iPod.  As before, say "yes."  Note that that sync selection will disappear and the Restore will end if you do not respond within a reasonable time.  If that happens, only the apps that are part of the IOS will appear on your device.  Corrective action is simple -  choose manual "Sync" from the bottom right of iTunes.
If you're unable to do the Restore, go into Recovery Mode per the instructions here.

Someone else in the forum told me how to do this.  If you have Onyx on your system then select Parameters, iTunes and turn off high contrast mode.  If you don't have Onyx, I'd suggest getting it.  It is freeware and used to help maintain your system.  Good luck

Restore your system from your latest backup and try again.
Ohhh... How can I do that? I keep trying to shutdown the laptop but it's not letting me. What should I do?

  • Changing the Black layout colour in Lightroom

I've searched the Forum as much as possible but can't find an answer to the following question: Is it possible to change the overall layout colour from Black to a mid to dark grey?
I know about the user ones for setting the backgrounds to your photos etc. but i would like to get away from the overall Black colour scheme. Is this possible?
         Thanks for any help.

Sorry, Neil. You can only change the background behind the image not the overall color scheme. I suggest you make a feature request at http://www.adobe.com/cfusion/mmform/index.cfm?name=wishform

  • All in one printer won't print black ink - colour only

My all in one printer won't print in black right now - colour only - even though the black ink is new.  It will print a couple of black ink pages and then reverts to colour.  If I give it a rest it will print a couple more black pages and then again, in colour - I think something needs cleaning but I don't know what - any help is much appreciated!  Val

Please read this post then provide some details. What printer model? What operating system? Is the black cartridge an original HP or a third party or refill/renamufactured cartridge? (The symptom is typical of a poorly refilled cartrdige....)

  • Non-ID-related colour question

    Hi,
I'm on a computer without colour-calibration and without a Pantone swatch book.
I need to choose a "yam soup meets extension cord orange" for the back cover of a book that needs to go to the printer, and I can't trust the screen or printer not to lie to me. I wonder if anyone has any suggestions?
The text is white or black on orange.
The values in the file now are C=9 M=70 Y=100 K=5. My "feeling" is that the orange needs to be a bit darker, but I worry about it going into "baby diaper brown" territory.
Any help/suggestions/opinions are very much appreciated.
(Thankfully, this will pretty much guarantee that the colour calibration software and Pantone book I've been pushing for will be ordered, finally)
    Thanks in advance!

Spot or process? If spot, will it also be screened?
Either way, whatever colour we recommend, how will you check it? You need to see some reference swatch to know how it will print. The printer probably has Pantone books in solid and process. If not you can probably check one at a design studio if you know someone or at an art supply store.

  • Aperture2 - Recovery and Black Point adjustments question

I purchased the Aperture2 upgrade and, I'm impressed!!!
    I have a question:
    In the *Adjustment Tab*:
Two features in the *Exposure area, "Recover and Black Point"*, works sometimes and other times it does not.
There must be a reason for it - I just can't figure out why this happens. One would think that it should work all the time!?
    Anyone know?

C and Scott, thanks so much for trying to help this old codger learn new tricks.
All the images I imported into Aperture2 are projects already completed and therefore I won't need to make adjustments to them. I was using them to test and learn the new Aperture2 features.
But, Just in case I ever need to convert a RAW image from A1x to the A2 format I'll know how to do it.
As I said before, as long as my new RAW images that I import directly into A2 have all the features available, I'm a happy camper. I won't be importing any images into A2 until after my shoot this evening, so, do you know if this is the case?

  • Rich black spot colour

    hello indesigners.
can a rich black become a spot colour if i choose from process to spot colour?
and can a white or black become a spot colours or are those 2 colours considered just simple shades?
    thank you.

Your answer makes me think you really don't understand process and spot colors.
First black is most certainly a color, but more importantly it is, in fact, already always on its own plate, just as Cyan, Magenta and Yellow inkls also have their own plates when building a process color.
Process inks (the regular CMYand K) are translucent and when mixed on the paper blend together to fool your eye into seeing thousands of other colors, but you cannot mix them together in a pot to make a single color to run on a separate plate. Spot color inks are opaque, and are a lot like paint. They get mixed from a set of basic color pigments and are laid down on a single plate. If you pick a page at random from a Pantone Formula Guide swatch book (the kind with 7 swatches on a page and the ink mix formula listed), you'll probably see that the center swatch is the baseline color, and the ones above it have white added, while the ones below have black added to the mix.
As has already been mentioned, Rich Black, at least using the tradtional meaning of a mix of Black and some amounts of CM and Y, is not a spot color, and you would not typically use it for type. There ARE spot black inks, but you are much more likely to want to use a spot ink for gray type or for some other color like red or green, especailly if the color does not have a good process equivalent. Light colors, especially, will print crisper as spots than as simulations, too, because they will be laid down solid instead of as screened dots.
There are cases where it makes sense to have TWO black plates. One of them is with documents that will be translated into multiple languages. In that case a second black plate can be defined as a spot color and all of the text will be assigned to that color. This allow the creation of 1 set of CMYK plates for the illustrative content, and the changing of the spot plate to change languages. This can reduce the setup time during language changeovers since the registration for text is not as critical in most cases and the CMYK plates will already have been registered on the first run. There is no advantage, though, to adding a fifth plate for black if there will not be a change in mid-run.

  • N86 Colour Question

Hello. I am considering purchasing an N86 in the upcoming weeks, so I'd appreciate it if somebody could help solve the following puzzle:
Here in the UK the N86 is listed as being available in two colours: black or white. The problem is that the "black" N86 looks more dark blue than black. Having searched on youtube and various other sites it is clear that there is a version of the phone that's actually black (and not blue) however I am unsure as to whether this colour is exclusive to the North American market or something to that effect. If somebody is able to clear this up I'd be thankful, as I think the black version of the phone looks far, far better.
    Thanks.

the phone is available in two colors: black and white. however, the black one tends to look indigo-ish when seen in bright light, therefore it's sometimes named indigo, depending on the sites, their marketing strategies and so on. i've ordered mine (N86 indigo) thinking that maybe a better choise would've been choosing the black one, but i've found out when the shipment came that it's just a name, and a very vague tent of indigo, indeed (i've realised this because when comparing with my monitor or the speakers, i can notice a difference between their black and the phone's).

  • Black MacBook Trackpad Question

I've seen many Black MacBook pictures, however I always noticed that the track pad seems almost destroyed from the continuous use. You can see the aging and the gloss forming. So the question is...can it be preventable?

For my white MB I bought a roll of adhesive contact paper from an Art store. (a few dollars for the whole roll!) I cut pieces for the trackpad and button. This works beautifully and gives the trackpad a nice dry-satin texture. No residue when I removed it either. This is a much cheaper alternative to third party products.
    Cheers

  • Black MacBook Preformance Questions

    Hey guys,
This is my first mac, it's a late 2007 black macbook running snow leopard. As happens with computers that are a few years old i'm starting to loose HD space, little slowdowns etc.
Can anyone recommend any good utilities from mac to help generally 'clean up' my computer? Also is there a way to see exactly where all the HD space is going?
Sorry for the ignorant questions, but the mac world is still very new to me.
    Thanks for your help!

Hi...for general maintenance and cache cleaning....Onyx....

  • Help Getting This Black & White Colour Effect

Im trying to get this effect
    Its basically a 2 of the same images, 1 x black n white 1 x colour
the colour is under neath and the black and white you rub out the parts you want.
I cant seem to figure out how to merge the 2 coloured pics, and then earse it properly.
    Really novice user here sorry

    Open color picture
    Duplicate background layer
Open a hue/saturation adjustment layer above the background copy layer. You do this by clicking on the half black/white circular icon in the layers palette
Drag the saturation slider (the middle one) all the way to the left
Your color chip (left corner) should be black for the foreground color
Access the brush tool and paint with black where you want the color to be visible. If you go too far, correct by painting white
    TIPS
Using x on the keyboard toggles between black and white
The bracket keys can be used to change brush size ] increase, [ decrease

  • Blank screen with a black square and question mark went start up

    Hi,
When I try to start up my Macbook pro it will only go to a grey screen with a black square with a question mark inside. Please please help!!!!

Using the disk utility (on first aid tab, which it defaults to) will not erase anything.
Of course if the issue is as I suspect, it's a moot point.
I suspect your Hard Drive is not being recognized. If it is not, then neither disk utility nor the installer will be able to even read the hard drive to let you do anything to it.
Have your backups? You're looking at a replacement hard drive most likely.
    Some things to try:
    Reset the SMC
--disconnect the power adapter and remove the battery
--hold in the power button for 10 seconds
--reseat the battery and reconnect the power adapter
    Reset the PRAM
--press and release the power button
--immediately after releasing the power button, hold down appleoption+PR and keep them held down until you hear the start up chime twice (I like to do it until it dings a third time.)
--release the keys after the chimes
If these steps do not resolve the issue, it is time to back up your data if you have not already done so.
If you have another mac, you may be able to retrieve the data yourself using firewire target disk mode:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=58583
Now if the host computer does not recognize the target computer, you may be looking at paying an authorized service provider or apple store to retrieve the data for you.
Of course you can send in the computer without doing any data retrieval or backups, but keep in mind the repair center it gets shipped do does not do ANY backup or data transfer. They will replace the hard drive and make sure the new one works, but the new one will be empty.

  • I dropped my mac book pro and the screen now has black and coloured lines in the corner. what is it and how can i fix it?

I dropped my mac book pro and the screen has now got a black rectangle and pink and green lines down it. What is it and how do i fix it?

Sounds like the display got damaged. Connect an external display and see if that's OK. If that's OK then the display is probably damaged. You can try reseating the LVDS connector but if that doesn't help the connections on the display body are very difficult to get to. Apple would just replace the entire display and that's what I would do as well.
