Black tougher than white?

I have heard that the black MB's are generally tougher and never suffered the cracked cases like the white ones did. True?

mine was starting to show signs of getting ready to crack just before I sent it in for a new case for different reasons.

Events (holidays, etc)in iCal appear as white on a colored background. Anyone know of a clever way to get black text? Probably requires so type of resource adjustment.

    Try iCalibrate: http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/16579

    Please Post !!!!!!!!

No, Apple does not offer that kind of exchange.
If you had a valid problem covered under the Warranty or AppleCare, they would swap it out for an identical item (including same color).

Don't worry, this is probably just Verbose Mode. It's perfectly harmless.  If you're not specifically invoking it, than it's probably down to an unwanted setting in NVRAM.  See this article on resetting NVRAM if it continues to bother you.

  • Black screen with white apple logo won't go away! Help please.

  • PLEASE HELP!!! Black Screen with white curser at startup...

at startup after grey screen fan turns on and screen turns black with a white curser in the upper left. Then one line of text shows saying something to do with single user mode failed with a bunch of other text. (sorry I didn't write it down) It then vanishes for a minute with just the white curser remaining and repeats.
    Ran hardware test... everything OK
I have repaired permissions which took almost an hour of CD.
I tried repairing disk failed " Invalid Key Length, volume check failed" twice.
I am currently running os off external backup HD.
I tried doing a archive and install but said I could not because the my os software(10.4.11) was newer than my original CD (10.4), is that correct?
I do not know what to do? Please help!!!!

You will need to reinstall OS X, but you cannot do an Archive and Install until you repair the drive. See the following:
How to Perform an Archive and Install
An Archive and Install will NOT erase your hard drive, but you must have sufficient free space for a second OS X installation which could be from 3-9 GBs depending upon the version of OS X and selected installation options. The free space requirement is over and above normal free space requirements which should be at least 6-10 GBs. Read all the linked references carefully before proceeding.
    1. Be sure to use Disk Utility first to repair the disk before performing the Archive and Install.
Repairing the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your OS X Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Installer menu (Utilities menu for Tiger.) After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported, then quit DU and return to the installer.
    2. Do not proceed with an Archive and Install if DU reports errors it cannot fix. In that case use Disk Warrior and/or TechTool Pro to repair the hard drive. If neither can repair the drive, then you will have to erase the drive and reinstall from scratch.
    3. Boot from your OS X Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When you reach the screen to select a destination drive click once on the destination drive then click on the Option button. Select the Archive and Install option. You have an option to preserve users and network preferences. Only select this option if you are sure you have no corrupted files in your user accounts. Otherwise leave this option unchecked. Click on the OK button and continue with the OS X Installation.
    4. Upon completion of the Archive and Install you will have a Previous System Folder in the root directory. You should retain the PSF until you are sure you do not need to manually transfer any items from the PSF to your newly installed system.
    5. After moving any items you want to keep from the PSF you should delete it. You can back it up if you prefer, but you must delete it from the hard drive.
    6. You can now download a Combo Updater directly from Apple's download site to update your new system to the desired version as well as install any security or other updates. You can also do this using Software Update.

  • PDFs printing with black background and white text.

For some reason some of our PDF's have been printing with black backgrounds and white text, even though they appear to be normal on the screen before they are printed. I haven't been able to confirm 100% yet but it appears to only be happening with pdfs that were created from scanned documents.
Can somebody please offer me some suggestions.

Absolutely agree with the original poster.  I find white text on black background so very very difficult (I changed from using Tweetbot on iOS to Tweetlogix for this very reason) and it physically hurts my eyes to try to read it.  I can just about manage with Spotify using white text on a black background on the large screen of my MacBook Pro - and I do mean "just" - but for the smaller screen of my iPhone 5 it is just impossible.  Even with a retina screen such as that on the iPhone 5S there is a strange ghosting effect and it gives me a headache to look at it for too long.
This may be something to do with age!  I suspect most app developers are youngsters with almost perfect eyesight, but for those of us whose eyesight is less than perfect, this white text on black background really is so very difficult.
I know there is a workaround in setting the iPhone to invert ALL colours (under Accessibility in Settings) but it's a real pain to have to keep altering this setting every time I want to open or close Spotify, and it doesn't look right anyway.  iOS7 is supposed to be a light, bright, easy to read OS - sadly this new Spotify app is the opposite of that.
Please would Spotify consider adding a simple light or dark theme option, so that those of us who want it can have our much easier to read light background back again, with grey or black text?  It would be a great help to those of us who have eyesight problems.
If not, I may have to cancel my Spotify Premium account and move to Deezer instead, as I mainly use Spotify when out and about in the car, so am using the iOS app a lot.
Thank you for considering this plea!

  • Black vs. White (yes, another) Help

Sorry to ask this again, I know it's been beat to death but i DO have a Black MacBook but I'm considering trading it in for a white and I need some advice. I know the white scratches but scratches stay white, right? So scratches on the outer case shouldn't look too bad, do they? (I wouldn't know...never owned an iBook).
However, with the black, I'm so anal about keeping my computers looking nice, at least for the first few months to even a year. The Black MacBook shows grease and oil from my fingers on the trackpad and even on the keyboard. Am I correct in assuming the white does not have this problem?
Also, DUST. The black one shows any little spec of dust that lands onto it and I find myself constantly blowing it away or trying to sweep it off.
I know you can easily wipe the oily mess away with a damp cloth afterwards but that seems like a lot of upkeep. Granted, it is my own fault, but I don't like the looks of an oily keyboard and trackpad. Just looks so unattractive.
So I'm just looking for some advice whether jumping over to the white one sounds like a good idea or if I should just stick with the black one? Also, would apple charge me a restocking fee even for this type of exchange?
Sorry for making so long but thanks for any advice you may have - I always like to get second opinions and see how others view the situation.

My family has own white iBooks ever since they were introduced by Apple. They all get scratched, show black looking dirt, look grubby after a short while and do show finger prints depending on light reflection etc. My wife's iBook stayed the cleanest because she wasn't a heavy user and she was only one using it.
My wife now has the Black MacBook and she couldn't be more pleased with it - me as well. It does not show the black looking dust and crud, finger prints aren't a problem unless you have greasy finger tips which can be removed easily with a RadTech cloth, and scratches will no worse than for the White IMO and may not show up as badly on Black vs. White.
After many years with white iBooks it's a pleasure to have the Black option.
No matter, I believe white or black will have their negatives and much of this will depend on how the MacBook is used or abused.
Keep the Black MacBook if I were you. However, if you continually worry about the Black issues you've described then move over to a White one and get on with your life, so to speak.
Restocking fee will quite likely be charged after 14 days I believe.
    Good luck.

  • Ios8 problem. ibooks individually open up ok black print on white, but the "page" shows as dark charcoal with indistinct pale lettering and I can't read it.  Nowhere to fix the "page".  It's crap. Please help

I'd still prefer to keep separate user accounts. I never had any issues like this before. The only time I started having a problem was when I was just trying to force empty the trash a few months ago. I came on here looking for a solution and someone posted a way to empty the trash using the terminal. Before then, I hadn't used the terminal for anything--it was just another app in my utilities folder.  (None of this has anything to do with having separate user accounts. Plenty of people with kids make second and third user accounts on their laptops so that multiple people can use one laptop, having more than one user on a laptop is not very difficult.) But thank you, I'll try that out and see if it works!

  • When I boot up my iMac I get a black screen with white text?

Hey guys wondering if anyone can help me. I installed mountain lion on my iMac the other day (2.8ghz Intel Core 2 Duo, 24inch) and now when I turn it on I get this screen come up? Any one no of a way to fix it? It comes up black all this white text appears and at the end it says..
"If you wish to boot the system:
    exit
    :/ root #
You type exit and some more stuff comes up then the mac boots up, normal apple loading screen and your in?? I tried reinstalling mountain lion again and I had no luck. Still doing it? Its strange cause ML is running fine on my macbook air. If anyone has any suggestions I would be so grateful. Tell me this isnt the end of her?
Its not something silly like the keyboard and mouse aren't connecting? I leave them on all the time.
Heres a snap of the screen
    Thanks everyone

I did reset the PRAM, but don't think that worked.  I did find this on a blog on the web.  It worked for me
When I first read this post I did not realize that the Mac boots properly if you type "exit". It seems like perhaps your mac thinks you want to boot in "verbose" mode. Try this before doing a reinstall.
    http://www.ernieflores.net/osx-page-3/always-boot-mac-os-x-in-verbose-mode/
I got this info from here
    http://www.mac-forums.com/forums/os-x-operating-system/280859-black-screen-white -text-startup.html
note: after it starts with the white text and black screen just type exit then hit return key and the computer will startup.  open the terminal after that and follow the ernie flores blog tip.

  • Some pictures in I-Photo seem to be corrupted. When I click on them, the photo comes up for a second, then the picture turns black with a white fuzzy circle inside it and what looks like an explanation mark. Some older, some newer,  no common thread.

Some pictures in I-Photo seem to be corrupted. When I click on them, they come up for a second, then turn black with a white circle in the middle and what looks like an explanation mark. There does not seem to be any rhyme or reason to the photos that are a problem, some older ones, some newer, some albums have none, some albums have a lot.
    Thanks,
    Mark

time to time (when I have a chance), I will go to Finder, bring up ALL Images and start going through them to label them (before I put a label on them, they are simply listed as 123 jpg, 124 jpg etc.).
You're damaging the Library doing that, and that's the cause of your problem.
Never, ever, ever use the  All Images search and work on items in yoyr iPhoto Library. They must only be accessed via the iPhoto window.
Restroe from abck up or try rebuild the Library:
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In early versions of Library Manager it's the File -> Rebuild command. In later versions it's under the Library menu.)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.
Next: You need to learn how to use iPhoto. There's no need to be dragging things to the desktop:

  • Is there a way to set the iPhone to have a black screen with white text?

I found the "Invert Colors" option under Settings > General > Accessibility, and like it a lot. It provides enhanced readability.
The problem is that it inverts all colors, even for apps. So when I view a web page in Safari, all the colors are inverted for the images.
And when I view my photos in Photos, these are also inverted as well.
Is there a way to set up the iPhone to default to a black screen and white letters for the OS, but allow the apps and photos, etc. to
be viewed in their regular colors. For example, can I run Photos to view my photos on a black background but view the photos in their
    normal coloring?

I'm afraid that is not possible, maybe this could bee a step in that direction if you use the mentioned Zoom function:
    Invert Colors and Grayscale
Sometimes, inverting the colors or changing to grayscale on the iPhone screen makes it easier to read.
Invert the screen colors. Go to Settings > General > Accessibility, then turn on Invert Colors.
See the screen in grayscale. Go to Settings > General > Accessibility, then turn on Grayscale.
Turn on both effects to see inverted grayscale. You can also apply these effects to just the contents of the zoom window—see Zoom on page 150.

I don't know what's wrong with my 3GS. It only shows the black screen with white apple. Home button and turning the phone off then on doesn't seem to do anything.

    Thanks Lucas,
I've tried doing that with no results. Same screen keeps showing. Maybe it'd be more helpful if I told you a bit more info.  My phone was randomly playing music, and the voice control would also suddenly start without me touching the phone.  Then I let the battery die and started to recharge when on the screen it indicated to plug into my computer/iTunes, I tried to restore but was getting an error message (can't remember what it said now). Battery died and now my current issue of the black screen with white apple.  I'd love to be able to restore my phone but now its not showing as a device on my iTunes. HELP! Any other suggestions?
