Black tv screen

I was trying to upgrade the Apple TV2. Now TV screen turns to BLACK and power cycled the ATV2. No help, TV still Black.

Thanks for the responses, people.
Tried the Option F12 a number of times. No go. Have also covered all previous suggestions. The film I'm having difficulty with I've had in the timeline for a few days now and it did operate properly until today when I entered it. Tried another film moved in from external drive and the same result pertains so it's not just the film. Done the usual repair and verify permissions as well as using Disk Warrior, and both Startup and FCP storage drives were reported as being in no need of replacement.
I don't want to lose this film - and I much want it restored if possible...
Anyone else? Thanks.

  • My iBook G4 only goes to a black 'Darwin' screen when it boots up. How do I get it to boot up normally again?

Last night, my iBook G4 started showing odd glitches on the screen. When I restarted it, there was a file with a blinking question mark, so I consulted the manual and it said to shut down, hold 'Option' and turn on the computer, then click the hard disk icon and then the rightward arrow. When I did these things, it led me to a black screen where something called 'Darwin' asked me for my login and password. I managed to restart from the OSX install disc and repair the hard disk volume that way, but the black 'Darwin' screen shows up every time I turn the laptop on! What should I do to get it back to normal? My iBook G4 has OSX 4.11 installed, and I bought it refurbished in June 2005.

Thank you so much for replying; unfortunately, my screen had already gone gray by the time I read your reply and I had to take in to the Genius Bar. My laptop's up and running, but the main problem is still unknown and I'll have to buy a new one soon. Thanks again!

  • I uninstalled bootcamp but when my MacBook Pro starts up, I still have to press "alt/option" when the screen goes grey. Otherwise, a black windows screen pops up. What am I doing wrong?

At one point in time, I believe I had attempted to install bootcamp on my MacBook Pro. My university support center said that I had to press "alt/option" when starting up everytime, otherwise it would be a black windows screen and I had no idea where to go from there. (So I never was able to fully utilize the Bootcamp application. Unfortunately, even after I uninstalled bootcamp, this is still happening. How do I fix this? Thank you.

You should have asked us and looked at 10 posts a week -- same as yours.
OS X: System Preferences: Startup Disk control panel
    Set and done!
x = Mac OS X on startup also
And no to needing to hit Option every time. Obviously they never actually booted and used Mac.
All it was is the startup parameter was saved and still set to look for a partition that does not exist and got lost.
ZAP PRAM is also helpful but you would still use Startup Disk.
About This Mac.... More... will also take you to control panels (why System Prefs if they are control panels? to be different?) as well as S.P. from the Dock

  • Boot Camp on Snow Leopard can't install Windows-Stuck on black BIOS screen

I'm running Snow Leopard 10.6.8 on an early 2008 Mac Pro (dual 3.2Ghz Harperton CPU's, 10gb RAM) with Boot Camp version 3.0.4 (all updated). I've successfully had a Boot Camp partition in the past, running WindowsXP32 Bit. I just purchased Windows7 Professional and can't install either the 32bit or 64 bit version. Neither can I install any of my original Windows disc. Boot Camp successfully creates the partion, then asks me to install the Windows install DVD/CD which I do, and then when it reboots, it gets stuck in a black BIOS screen that says "Initializing..."
I've tried all my Windows discs: WindowsXP-32bit, Vista-32Bit, Vista-64Bit, Windows7-32Bit, Windows7-64Bit. Same problem...gets hung on the black BIOS screen. I disconnected all my USB hardware except for my keyboard/mouse. All my other internal drives are disconnected.
The only thing that I can think of is that is different is my MacHD is a 500GB Seagate MomentusXT solid state hybrid drive.
    Any help is greatly appreciated!!!!!!!
    Thanks

    Hi fellow Mac buddie,
I just zapped the PRAM, and also reset the SMC switch on the mother board.....no luck.
In refenece to the hybrid SSD drive, I've already taken that one out, put in a fresh 3.5" drive, formatted and installed  a fresh clean version of Lion OS, and then attempted the Boot Camp install using Lion with the newest Boot Camp version (3.1 or 3.2) Please see my original post above.
    Same issue, black BIOS screen.
Also tried Boot Camp Windows install on a second drive in drive bay 2 (an option now in Lion's Boot Camp)
    same issue, black BIOS screen.
Lastly, I've tried all these interations using my three different Windows install disks (XP, Vista, Windows7).
XP is a "full install" disk, Vista and Windows7 are upgrade disks. But I've had XP installed previously using Boot Camp with no problem. So I'm confused I can't even install XP.
As another option, I went to a friend who has a PC, and I installed Windows 7 on a new hard drive. I'm about to install that in drive bay 2, reboot while holding down "option", and see if I can boot directly into that disk.
That's a workaround, as is VMWare Fusion which I have and Windows7 works fine as a virtual machine.
But when something doesn't work the way it's supposed to (in this case Boot Camp), it bugs me makes me want to know why it doesn't. I'll report back with regard to the 2nd bay Windows7 hard drive install.

  • My iPad wont turn on, its black screen then i press home power buttons together and white screen with black apple logo come out after 5 seconds black "lighten" screen comes out and its stuck just like that! Whats the problem?

    HI
this happened today suddenly while i was working on my iPad it kicked my out of the app that i was using then white screen with black apple logo came out, i thought it was an ordinary thing cause this happens all the time with me, but this time it refused to turn on! After the white screen with the black logo vanished i wad waiting for my lock screen but no, a black screen showed up just like that! And could tell it was black "lighten" screen i tried more than 10 times to do the home+power thing but it wont work, whats wrong with my ipad!

If the battery is completely drained it may take some time while on the charger before the iPad responds. Plug the iPad into the charger that came with it and plug that into a good wall outlet. Wait one hour. Then reset your device. Press and hold the Home and Sleep buttons simultaneously until the Apple logo appears. Let go of the buttons and let the device restart. If the iPad restarts let it continue to charge until the battery is 100%. If it doesn't start up make an appointment at an Apple Store to have your device examined by a technician. Or contact Apple Support. They will examine your iPad and explain your options.

  • Starting up in black console screen

My PB has just started booting up into a black screen. I get the grey Apple logo then the start-up progress bar - which seems a little quicker than usual - and then after a few moments of a blank blue screen, it goes to a black screen with the following text:
    Darwin/BSD (localhost) (console)
login: Feb20 18:44:14 localhost mdsyncServer[190]: Could not create DiskArb session or approval session.
Feb 20 18:47:15 localhost mDNSReopsnser: mDNSPlatformSendUDP sendto failed to send packet on interfaceID 01808E00 lo0/4 to 224.0.0.251:5353 skt 9error -1 errno 65 (no route to host) 2219651482
This last section appears again after a few minutes...having tried again to do whatever it's trying to do.
I've tried to boot from the original OS disk but no joy. I've connected to my other PB in target disk mode and was able to see the HD. I then ran Disk Utility which showed up some errors:
    Verifying volume “HD”

Error: The underlying task reported failure on exit
Disk Utility stopped verifying “HD” because the following error was encountered:
The underlying task reported failure on exit
    1 HFS volume checked
    Volume needs repair
I repaired the disk, verified it again and it came back free of errors.
I then tried the Hardware Test disk. Having selected the Test button and the right hand arrow I was left with a screen with the OSX folder and the folder with question mark alternating merrily.
I then tried the safe mode start-up without the Hardware Test disk and, having selected the OSX icon, went through the start-up screen with progress bar to the blank blue screen...and then to the black console screen.
The text on the black screen is slightly different now:
    Darwin/BSD (andrews-powerb) (console)
    login:
I'm all out of options now as I have no idea what to do past this stage. What's my login etc.
Is this an OS problem or a HD problem? Any thoughts anyone?
Thank you in advance of your replies.

Check out the information from Mike Coniff in this discussion topic for a possible solution. If you are unable to succeed then you will have to reinstall OS X. If the drive is OK you can do this using Archive and Install which does not erase the hard drive:
How to Perform an Archive and Install
    1. Be sure to use Disk Utility first to repair the disk before performing the Archive and Install.
Repairing the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your OS X Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Installer menu (Utilities menu for Tiger.) After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported, then quit DU and return to the installer.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior (4.0 for Tiger) and/or TechTool Pro (4.5.2 for Tiger) to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
    2. Do not proceed with an Archive and Install if DU reports errors it cannot fix. In that case use Disk Warrior and/or TechTool Pro to repair the hard drive. If neither can repair the drive, then you will have to erase the drive and reinstall from scratch.
    3. Boot from your OS X Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When you reach the screen to select a destination drive click once on the destination drive then click on the Option button. Select the Archive and Install option. You have an option to preserve users and network preferences. Only select this option if you are sure you have no corrupted files in your user accounts. Otherwise leave this option unchecked. Click on the OK button and continue with the OS X Installation.
    4. Upon completion of the Archive and Install you will have a Previous System Folder in the root directory. You should retain the PSF until you are sure you do not need to manually transfer any items from the PSF to your newly installed system.
    5. After moving any items you want to keep from the PSF you should delete it. You can back it up if you prefer, but you must delete it from the hard drive.
    6. You can now download a Combo Updater directly from Apple's download site to update your new system to the desired version as well as install any security or other updates. You can also do this using Software Update.

  • Trying to install and get black restart screen

I've been trying to install an extra version of Tiger on a back up drive I have. I'm finding it very hard to do however and I was wondering if it might have anything to do with having a TT Pro edrive also on the back up drive? I've tried installing Tiger several times and once I did get it installed but upon trying to start it up I just got the black restart screen again. I've never had any trouble using this drive for random storage and back up before.
As a last ditch effort I have removed the edrive and I am erasing and zeroing the drive completely. I guess I'll then reformat it and give it a try again and see what happens then, unless someone else has any suggestions.

  • Ipad2 with blacked out screen fix by spanking

    Hi All
Just found out from the forum that if your  Apple IPad2 goes into a black out screen mode, you may be able to fix it by spanking it.
I had taken it to the Genius Bar and they would have replaced it but was out of warranty.
So taking it out of its case I gave it 5 slaps to the back of the unit with my open hand.
Supprise the when I turned it over and pressed the power button the Apple logo appeared.
    Thanks to the support community.

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
Does your hard drive spin up? And do you have access to another MAC?
If so, you could see if you could mount your Mac's hard drive on the other Mac's desktop using FireWire Target Disk mode:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1661
Also mount an external drive equal or larger than your internal drive on the host Mac. Then use a cloning utility like Super Duper on the host Mac to clone your internal drive onto the external drive. This will give you a backup of everything that is on your internal drive--it will be an exact copy. This would take some time, but would likely be the best way to back up everything on your drive.
    http://www.shirt-pocket.com/SuperDuper/SuperDuperDescription.html
It is especially important to back up everything on your drive, because when your Mac goes in for repair, sometimes the drive is erased and the OS reinstalled in the process of troubleshooting. Also, they will likely elect to thoroughly test the machine and do any repairs that are necessary, which could possibly include replacing the hard drive. If you have any sensitive data on the drive, you may even want to erase it before sending it in just on general principles.
    Good luck!

  • Hi, i am having a problem in my ipad 2 , it is not showing main screen just showing a black blank screen in which downloading icon is only shwn which is continously and when i connect to itunes via windows 7 it showing this error (0xE8000065) can any one

hi, i am having a problem in my ipad 2 , it is not showing main screen just showing a black blank screen in which downloading icon is only shwn which is continously and when i connect to itunes via windows 7 it showing this error (0xE8000065) can any one

First, try a system reset.  It cures many ills and it's quick, easy and harmless...
Hold down the on/off switch and the Home button simultaneously until the screen blacks out or you see the Apple logo.  Ignore the "Slide to power off" text if it appears.  You will not lose any apps, data, music, movies, settings, etc.
If the Reset doesn't work, try a Restore.  Note that it's nowhere near as quick as a Reset.  Connect via cable to the computer that you use for sync.  From iTunes, select the iPad/iPod and then select the Summary tab.  Follow directions for Restore and be sure to say "yes" to the backup.  You will be warned that all data (apps, music, movies, etc.) will be erased but, as the Restore finishes, you will be asked if you wish the contents of the backup to be copied to the iPad/iPod.  Again, say "yes."
Finally, if the Restore doesn't work, let the battery drain completely.  Then recharge for at least an hour and Restore again.

  • How do you get rid of black AMIBIOS screen?

my sister was trying  to figure out how to turn on my touchsmart computer and when i turned it on she turned it off and on again then i got the black AMIBIOS screen.  I don't have the blue hp screen anymore.  Can I do a full factory recovery to see if I get my blue hp screen back again?  Or do i have to send my computer to hp again to have it fixed like I had to before when i had the black bios screen.

    Hello panda349:
Welcome to HP's forum. Champ no problem. I going to guide you through your first back restore. It would be nice if your parents would help you with this as well. First I like you to turn off your computer then turn it back on and press hold down on F-8 key. It will display safe mode screen. Now use your arrow keys and select safe mode with network. Let it load in files sceen. Now every thing is going to be large. This is normal alright. I want you to close Help and Support window. Now go to all programs search box and type in recovery manager click on it soon as you see it above listed. Now it shoud opened up. Now select Microsoft System Restore  click yes in next window now you will see a list of dates please choose a date that was before your sister messed up your computer as close as can. Click next. Let it do its recovery. Once it is completed close out recovery message window. You should be back to normal and all set.
If f-8 method failed to open please have your parent perform a force shut down procedure. Turn on your computer now with the computer still on disconnect power cord  from power cord box. Plug it back in and turn on your computer this will automatically put you in safe mode. Please follow the above direction but leave out f-8 key part. Continue with back restore directions.
Please let us know if you still need more help. Thank you frrw.

"I did an upgrade from OSX Lion to OSX Mountain Lion and I also get a black boot screen ONLY from a cold startup. If I type exit, my macbook pro startsup normally."
I already made a clean install and it didn't fix anything - the issue still exists (on my MBP 5.1 late 08)
BUT: the most horrible thing is: I also tried to downgrade to 10.7.4 (it worked perfectly before the update to 10.8!!!) and after being back on 10.7.4 it also boots (cold boot) into single user mode...
Now I'm back on 10.8 again (the 2nd clean install) and waiting for a fix...
I tried everything (alls kinds of commands, permission rights and reset all PRAM NVRAM SMC... no luck!)
A friendly guy on the german applehotline told me (after 2h telling him what my problem is): "mountain lion didn't break your mac it must be a hardware error and your mac is out of warrenty - so have a good one...bye"
Maybe apple will bring an update to fix this because it is ofcourse a software error...
    Best regards from Germany
I hope Apple brings an update too. I still have this problem. I also tried to do a clean install, which was a lot of work! So it must be a software problem.
I find it really annoying to get the black boot screen every time I do a cold startup!
I hope more people who have the same problem post something here, to let Apple now that they have to do someting about it!
    Best regards from the Netherlands.

  • Black lit screen and unresponsive on start up

My mid-'13 (purchased October '13) 11" MacBook Air turns on but only to a black lit screen (no curser etc), the keyboard seems unresponsive and when I close it, the Apple is still lit up. Been like this for 4 days and no change. Fully charged. Running on Yosemite as of last week. Has suffered from the screen going off and freezing for a few seconds from time to time.

    Hi Harrisongaw,
Thanks for visiting Apple Support Communities.
I know it can be worrying when your computer doesn't start up. If your MacBook Air is only starting up to a blank screen, but the Apple icon is still illuminated, I recommend resetting the system management controller (SMC) as a first step.
You can find the steps to reset the SMC for your model MacBook Air at this page:
Intel-based Macs: Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC) - Apple Support
    All the best,

  • Black lock screen

Just bought two new iPod Touches - one works fine and the other continuously has a black lock screen (and by default settings screen appears a lot darker).
Have tried reset all content and settings from within the iPod and a restore (to 4.3.3) via iTunes and still black lock screen.
    Anyone have any ideas?
    Cheers - Simon

just to clarify, I'd appreciate any info on how I can get the computer to start displaying my background photo on the lock screen again.
